Everything you ever wanted to know about hand printing.

This book turned out to be even more helpful and inspiring than I had hoped for. It answered many questions relating to different varieties of simple hand printing techniques such as: which inks, papers, and fabrics are best suited for each project; how to create stencils; how to transfer designs, how to repeat a pattern, how to work with screens, and on and on. There are many color photos showing step-by-step procedures. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. A lot of the printing projects are done on simple, natural fabrics like linen and muslin.

The book itself is a spiral-bound, soft-cover book within a hard cover shell. This allows you to lay the pages flat so that you can look at them hands-free as you work.

I love this book. I was already familiar with many types of printing such as linoleum and gocco, but I still learned a great deal. So I would have to say this book is for novices and experienced alike.

I guarantee you that you will come away from this book inspired and ready to create.

As a conservative Christian layman, I have found this breathes new life into the Scriptures. I was looking for the New Testament on CD and found this dramatic reading of the NKJV. What can I say? Just a reading of the cover will tell you of the great talents involved in this wonderful effort. I came away after listening to the entire set feeling as if I had watched an epic motion picture (and you can't quit; you are compelled to listen to one book after the other). It is not only a great witnessing tool, it is great for Bible study and entertainment. You will receive a blessing! Highly recommmended. P.S. The Book of Revelation is especially dramatic!

The Word of Promise is fun to listen to because of the multimedia production which includes numerous voices and sound effects. I am surprised that I haven't seen any media advertisement on this project. If people knew it was available, they would buy it. Great to listen to in the car.

I feel kind of guilty for criticizing anything that promotes the Bible but in all honesty it was good & had the cherished King James Version, but it was not great like The Bible Experience. The reason being is the Actors could have put more emotion into their voices esp. Jim who played Jesus. I wonder were most of the actors in The Word of Promise born again Christians and realized the depth of what they were saying. ALot of the actors in the Bible Experience professed Christ as their Lord so they put all they had into their speaking parts. Jim sounded kind of robotic and not as natural, this may have been a carry over from the movie when he did not speak in English so we did not get a good grasp of the how his voice sounded in English (only the visual) in the "Passion of the Christ) which he was great in & should have won an Oscar if Hollywood was not at the time so bias against Christian movies but in any event I expected alot greater passion as would give it a B not an A plus. If any actors read this next time you make a Christian audio put more passion in your voice. This is God we are talking about afterall!

This has really helped me in my quest of reading the bible in a year. The voices and the added background sounds makes it seems alive. As you listen, you can almost picture the scenes.

All work has come to a standstill here now that the mail carrier arrived with Rayna Gillman's new book, "Create your own hand-printed cloth: Stamp, screen & stencil with everyday objects." I am fighting the urge to lock myself in a room away from my kids (they can forage for their own lunch, can't they?) and read the whole thing non-stop. Gillman covers stamping and stenciling with found objects; random screen printing; gelatin plate printing; screen printing with thickened dyes; discharge painting; soy wax batik; and rubbings.

For each technique, there are lots of detailed directions and excellent photos to accompany them. She also provides supply lists (and websites where you can buy the supplies).

Within a week after getting this book, I met with a group of fiber art friends and we played with stamping using found objects, guided by the book. The results were great. This is a book I will really USE. And I can't wait to try more of these techniques.

This is a source for many many printing techniques. Each is explained in detail, and has plenty of examples. As an artist I don't necessarily want a book of specific projects, I want a book that will help me expand and learn. Rayna's book does that and does it well.

This book is a wonderful resource for the many different ways that the textile artist can use to alter the surface of fabric. With great wit and wisdom, Rayna removes the fear of using such things as thickened dye, discharge paste and soy wax and imparts confidence that "you too can make your own fabric!"

She opens your eyes to household items that you will be able to use to transform ho-hum fabric into one of-a-kind art cloth. She has opened up the candy box, now jump in and PLAY!

I found the book just did not live up to my expectations. When will crafting books realize that photo transfers done with xerox machines hardly ever work as they are shown in books? The techniques of photo transfer, which is covered in this book as if it works, is really frustrating. Also, the use of translucent clays to good effect is iffy and the high polish acheived by the author on many of the pieces. I just couldn't get it to work.

I was totally new to clay working, heading for a class in the medium, when I purchased this book. I was absolutely delighted, and was able to start my class with some background and understanding of working the materials. I sit in awe of Ms. Kato's talent, and did find the techniques more difficult than they look. This aside, it is an excellent accumulation of many of the techniques that makes polyclay such a joy to work with. Ms. Kato does list several varieties of clay, inks, paints and other products, but I appreciate that she enumated which she found easier to work with, and why. I did expect some bias towards Kato Polyclay, as she helped develop it, but have also found this an excellent product to work with and have not been disappointed with its performance.
The book is a MUST HAVE for the beginner reference library, and is also an inspiration with the images from Ms Kato and other artist's collections. I'm pleased I purchased this book, and plan to keep it as a cornerstone for clay working.

This is a nice little book to take the average muggle and turn them into a geocacher. If you've been caching awhile it probably won't be much use to you. It covers finding your first cache and terms often used, filling out logs and even selecting items to trade. Also has good info for the new cacher to create their first cache. Good book for the new or want to be cacher.

There is a ton of helpful information (to include acronyms, special types of hides, how to make a rubber stamp, etc.) all in a very easy to read format. In addition, there are areas to document your finds and other achievements. We bought a few copies of this book to give as presents, but will be keeping at least one and ordering more very soon. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! VERY PLEASED OVERALL!

"It's a Treasure Hunt!" is a guide to get people started Geocaching and Letterboxing. Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where players use a handheld GPS and try to find containers that are hidden outdoors. Letterboxing is a mixture of treasure hunting, art, and clue solving. Players go online to find clues to where a Letterbox is hidden and once the Letterbox is found, players use his/her homemade stamps and inkpad to stamp the logbook in the letterbox and uses the stamp and inkpad in the Letterbox in his/her personal logbook.

"It's a Treasure Hunt!" fully explains how both Geocaching and Letterboxing work. The book gives detailed instructions on what supplies are needed to do both activities and what supplies to pack while hunting for the Geocache/Letterbox. It also gives you tips on how to find the hidden "treasures" and what to do once you find them. The book also explains and illustrates the different types of Geocaches and Letterboxes (micro, small, mystery, etc.). There are also tips on how to carve your own stamps for Letterboxing and space to practice stamping. There are also a few pages to start your own logbook. Finally, there is a glossary of terms used in both activities.

I've wanted to try Letterboxing for a long time and found "It's a Treasure Hunt!" to be very useful in getting me started. While I did extensive research on line, I found the pictures of the Letterboxes and stamps, as well as the sample logbook to be very helpful. While I wasn't initially interested in Geocaching, this book got me interested and I plan on starting Geocaching soon.

After reading "It's a Treasure Hunt!" I went and found my first letterbox and look forward to finding more. Well done.

My son's teacher sent home a page of Egyptian Hieroglyphic symbols and what English alphabet letters they represented and asked that he write his name using Egyptian Hieroglyphic symbols. He loved it and had me do it. MAMA is a Owl,Vulture,Owl,Vulture and being a Westerner who loves both these birds I was hooked on the beauty of Hieroglyphics and bought this stamp set. It was a good deal, with a interesting little booklet that gives the background on Egyptian Symbols and what their English counterparts might be, plus an ink pad in the lid of the box that holds the stamps. It is designed to be used instantly and for years to come.

A beautiful book on using texture in paper crafts (not just in card making).

This book goes beyond being a "basic rubber stamping book",which is why I bought this book. I have been taking paper crafting classes for a few years and it's good to have a book like this one on hand because many of the techniques shown in this book are used in the "upper-level stamping classes" I've taken.

So often I have taken a paper craft class and then after a few years I've forgotten how to create a certain texture. Well, this book is great because it will often jog my memory of those upper-level classes that require skill and detail---BEYOND just inking a rubber stamp and slapping the design on paper.

In order to create a card or picture with color and texture, it's good to know the techniques shown by Ms. Curry in this book. Then, after practicing these "texturizing techniques", an artist can apply his or her own style to their art product.

Both books provide clear cut instructions on how to carve your own stamps to make artistic and fun stamps that are one of a kind. But this book is much better of the two and I'd suggest this one if you can only buy one book on the subject of stamp carving.
The projects in this book are lovely, artistic and not cutesy or cookie cutter similar to everything out there. You will easily be able to begin carving right away with this book alone. Well worth the 15 bucks here on Amazon! I recommend it.

If you need some inspiration, I strongly advise reading this book. Before reading the book, I didn't understand and was very intimdated about carving. After reading Art Stamping Workshop, I am now carving and printmaking!! I also teach this form of art in various schools and art stores.

One of the reasons I advise my students and online members to read this book, is because it is both teachable and progressive. It is an excellent book to study for classes, workshops, and personal study. With each technique, Gloria Page teaches in a way that you are bound to understand, and you are not left in the dark or in confusion in any way.

In an online group that I host -Artists of the Round Table- we read this book from cover to cover, and tried each of the projects. "ALL" of the member LOVED it.....adults, as well as the children!!! Gloria Page was kind enough to make herself available during the workshop to answer any questions, and to give advise and commendation. What an "encouragement" this was to the members studying her book!

Loving author.....AWESOME book. A perfect combination!

There's lots and lots and LOTS of jokes and activities in The Most Incredible, Outrageous, Packed-To-The-Gills Bulging-At-The-Seams Sticker Book You've Ever Seen (Klutz.) This is a collection of stickers that will make your child happy for hours and hours, because the supply is seemingly endless of these cute and funny stickere.

There are more than 450 stickers perfect for kids of all ages, however, I do not recommend this for very young children. You'll also find directions to make useful stuff like cards, puzzles, and other items that can be enhanced with stickers.

This is a great gift and a great activity toy. There's really a tremendous amount here for your money.

Rubber Stamping and more for jewelry designs

Ms. Miller has amazing vision into designs of various media and it is great to see her compile some of her work previously published in Belle Amoire and other magazines...plus additional pieces not seen elsewhere. Going over the basics of jewelry construction is VERY basic for the most part (e.g. how to hold open and closed a pair of jewelry plies - with images!) and I feel this was unnecessary for the caliber of the book. Following this are tips on using stamps, polymer clay, shrink art plastic, metal, etc. and put them to use with jewelry designs. These sections are covered well for the beginner and good review for the intermediate to advanced practioners. Almost all steps discussed are complimented with a picture - nice to have. I had to balk at the work done using fibers, primarily as a component for the necklaces (i.e. replacing chain/beads with fibers). For the most part, this style just looked messy to me, although some may find it quite bohemian in appeal. The numerous projects were creative and often inspiring me to go in a new route with my own designs...and this fact is the key for a good book on design of any medium - inspriation/creativity. Some of the pieces/projects were a little much - too many charms, or dangles, and loose fibers - while others were simple, unique and what I would prefer to wear if I had the piece. Therefore - I would consider this book for the beginner to intermediate jewelry artist wanting to explore techniques and products other than just beads/pearls/gems/crystals/wire/chain for their designs. Plus it is great for those of us, me included, to use our abundant rubber stamp collections for implementation using various media (e.g. paper, shrink plastic, polymer clay, dominos, metal - my favorite) into our jewelry designs. I often forget this and by having this book near my work space where I make my jewelry, it is a great reminder when my creative process needs a boost.

I am inspired by the author's use of a craft tool in a totally unexpected way. It makes me want to rush out and get new rubber stamps and try them to make some great looking one of a kind jewelry! Sharilyn Miller is a highly respected jewelry designer, and her books are always filled with great how-tos and super pictures. Who knew that rubber stamps could be so cool?

I bought this as a book to get me started with some basics. The first section is very detailed on basics other than stamping - some of which came in handy and I used immediately. I like the projects - although some are a little intimidating - such as the polymer clay projects - as I've never used that medium before. A little on the advanced side.

Lots of ideas well supported with clear instructions for the techniques required. I was particularly impressed with how well the techniques were illustrated. This is a real plus for clarifying text.

I love this book!

Well written, easy to understand with lots of great tips on techniques but the best was the fantastic projects. I wanted to make them all at once. It is like a big sister to scrapbooking giving you a chance to use your stamps for other purposes. Thank you Sharilyn Miller
