Inspiration for the Creative ProcessReview Date: 2000-10-03
Berkus, an architect, traces the inspiration for his designs from his vast experience of places, objects, and works of art. Berkus' built forms are juxtaposed with the work of renowned artists. Each page is visually compelling and as much an education about art as it is about architecture.
I particularly appreciated Berkus' down-to-earth approach to writing - no technical jargon or "experts" language here. Berkus' concepts are far-reaching and visionary - this is seen strongly in the final section of the book "Building for the Future."
Assuredly, this book will capture your imagination and influence your way of seeing the world around you. I would highly recommend Architecture/Art/Parallels/Connections as a great gift for all the creative people in your life!

rich and warm walls of colorReview Date: 2001-08-04
The essays that are with these photographs are interesting and strangely poetic. At first I found the writing somewhat peculiar, then realized it's translated from the Spanish (by Aurora Camacho de Schmidt) in an almost literal manner...but once you get into the rhythm of it, is excellent.
This hardback edition seems bigger than 160 pages because of its weight, with good quality thick pages, it's a sturdy volume. This book is much more about color than it is about Mexico, and for those of us who love color, it's a satisfying volume.

The "No Design" Design BookReview Date: 2003-06-12
The section headers were so faint that you almost missed them. Some of the images were bled off the page in such a way that you could not appreciate what was being illustrated. On other pages the examples were so close to the binding you almost have to rip the book in half to see them.
It was hard to find what you were looking for or to focus on the designs themselves as the design of the book itself was so poor.
Its OK to have a book with minimal text, but the design should be strong enough to support that.
