You will discover so many good things you did not know you had abilities to reach. By looking at her photo I had imagined Doreen to have a cute little voice, but it turns out her voice is very grown-up and tenor. The kind of voice you feel comfortable following into the world away from this world.

I bought this set a couple of months ago and I have listened to all 4 CDs.
Every CD places something good back into your life by reviewing past lives, breaking neg patterns, or visualizing what you want. Doreens voice is very soothing and calming. While I have had issues in the past with going into a hypnotic state with guided meditations, Doreens voice set my mind at ease. I don't believe anyone who chooses to buy this set will be disappointed.

Definite sense of satisfaction after finishing this book. The first half IS hard to read, the details of abuse ARE gory and disturbing, but it lets you know the why and how of Acheron and The Destroyer. Good read, flows well, and worth your time and money at 700 pages.

Required reading. And worth the time spent!

Review Date: 2008-08-19
My biggest question when I read that Acheron's book was coming, was "what woman would be big enough (character, personality, etc.) for T-Rex?" I had to read the book twice, and parts of it several times, to agree that SK had created the right woman for Ash. Not perfect, but right. The disparity of the book between Ash's beginnings and the current day is pretty glaring, but probably the best way to convey the concept of the who, what and where that is Apostolos, aka Acheron Parthenopaeus. Even if many readers can find specific, to them, flaws in the book, it is a necessary read, a coming-together, for a series that now extends through twenty-three books and/or short stories. This, to me, is a 'catch your breath, refresh your memory, and gird your loins' rest to get ready for the next books in the series. (And, we KNOW there HAVE to be at least five more stories. please, SK?) Plus, and this is a crass, monetary thought here, I know, but I really appreciate that a modern romantica/fantasy writer has written a 700+ page book and has only charged the regular hardback price. I sometimes bewail the $14.00 price I choose to pay for a 1 1/2 hour read. (I pay it, but am a bit snarky about it. A $7.99 ppb, not so much.) Excellent, wonderful, or just plain very good, this is THE book that every SK fan has to have. Probably the best dollar value in a book that I have in ages, if ever.
Now, the long (probably) wait for the next step. Whose story will be next?

AWESOME !!

This series has always been my guilty pleasure and this book is the one I have been waiting for. If you are looking for an interesting story with great mythology, this is it. I love that Ash's heroine was a human, because honestly the supernatural with supernatural storyline was starting to get tedious. I loved this series for its love overcoming the impossible storylines mixed with great takes on old mythologies. This book was darker and more intense than the others in the series without losing what has made the series so great to begin with: its just plain fun. Touching, funny, sad, and honest, this book is a great read from start to finish. Its the best one is a series that truly is a guilty pleasure all around!

Review Date: 2007-11-11
I recently listened to, "Blue Ocean Strategy - How to create uncontested market space and make the competition irrelevant" by Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne. The title really tells it all. The book talks about creating uncontested market space on the theory that contested market space is very difficult to make money on. It is now one of my favourite books.

There is no such thing as riskless strategy. Strategy always has to involve both opportunity and risk but the present playing field is dramatically unbalanced in favour of tools and analytical frameworks exceeded in existing businesses. As long as this remains true, existing businesses will continue to dominate companiesâ(tm) strategic agenda even if it is a business imperative for creating new initiatives and takes on a new urgency.

One thing that I like about the book is that it uses multiple examples of companies who have revolutionized the industry that they are in by creating brand new markets and brand new spaces. For example, they talk about the automobile business moving from the Model T to General Motors, to small fuel efficient Japanese cars to the Chrysler mini-van, etc.

One of the most interesting stories was about the Japanese hair cut that used to cost $40 to $50 and included everything from a shoulder and scalp massage to shampoo, etc., but generally took an hour and subjected the customers to long waits. When a chain of barber shops went into Japan offering no appointments and traditional haircutting like we are accustomed to in North America, the chain thrived in a big way.

This example explains part of what the book proposes. The key is to look at what is really being offered and look at what parts you can dramatically improve. Often you can end up with lower costs while at the same time adding more value to the customer. In the case of the barbershop, they were able to reduce the cost by not having to spend as long on each customer, not serving tea, etc. While at the same time, reducing the customers' waiting time which is an important commodity. The customers were not valuing the extras as much as they were valuing having their hair cut.

Great thesis/theory. Tougher implement though. Good because it makes you think though.

Decent concept, but too long & poor delivery

Review Date: 2008-01-12
I think the blue ocean concept is valid, but the best way to communicate it is in an HBR article or wikipedia. It's just not revolutionary enough to warrant reading such a long book in 2008. There's little I learned from this book that is not already well summarized on wikipedia, or the same author's Value Innovation article in HBR (1997). Additionally, I think the value innovation concept is touched on sufficiently well in modern b-school texts. (ie. Strategic Market Management by David Aaker)

However, the primary reason I'm giving this a low 2-star rating is the delivery. If I was writing this review attached to the book itself, I'd give it 3-4 stars for the content... but I'm writing this review attached to the CD edition. The reader has a monotone voice and he mispronounces so many words that the delivery interfered with my ability to extract value from the content. Every time he mis-pronounced a word it set me back a few seconds to think about what he tried to say rather than digesting the meaning of what he said.

Examples:
Crux was pronounced like crooks
Paradigm was pronounced pair-a-deem
Unveil was pronounced un-veal

These are admittedly little errors, but as other reviewers have pointed out, there are so many of them that it gets really annoying and interferes with the learning process.

In summary, I recommend you read the HBR value innovation article & wikipedia on this concept. The concept in the book is now >10 years old and it's time to be retired. If the author wants to continue reaping personal value from this concept he should 1. Release an edition relevant for 2008 & beyond, and 2. Get someone else to read it for the audio version.

Lot of people suffer from self hatred inspite of so much material progress..The refreshing and stimulating approach of Tara sees the fundamental problem of suffering. It offers great approach to NOT rate the Self and 'accept things the way they are' without judgement. Then we are better equiped to not hate ourselves. Self-improvement is myth although behaviour can be altered with acceptance.
Contemporary approach worth listening to for problem of self-hatred by Buddhist Psychologist.

Light? Yes. Quick Read? Yes. Enjoyable? Thoroughly. I found the latest Elvis Cole a satisfying entry in the series. Maybe not so many Elvis wisecracks, but you do have Carol Starkey getting off some dandies. Crais is so comfortable by now with Elvis & Joe & Carol and company that this is this year's adventure and while the earlier books might have been denser, I found this a very nice read. Of course, must I say it? The 4 stars are for fans of the genre and the series.

I like most of the Cole novels, but this one has a fairly predictable plot (albeit with a bit of a twist) and very little action. Joe Pike gets some play, but not enough. The plot is more plodding than page-turner. I'd wait for the paperback and buy it at the grocery store.

And ... I hate to say it, but what's with Crais's photos these days? Is he serious? The sunglasses and stern expression remind me of Tom Clancy at his most pretentious. I mean, c'mon, these are fairly lightweight, albeit entertaining, detective novels. There's no cause for him to take himself so seriously.

No, he didn't. But this bad guy is just as trite and poorly conceived. Not up to the usual high standards. Much has been written about publishers pushing their bankable authors to churn them out quickly. Is this such a product? Let's hope for better next time.

A Strong Opening Fades into the End

Review Date: 2008-08-15
Stephen King teaches novelists to think of an unusual situation to start the book and then let the book write itself from there. Chasing Darkness proves that formula isn't surefire advice. Despite a very interesting and unusual beginning, Chasing Darkness manages to end up feeling all too pedestrian at the end.

Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are inspired characters who have provided their fans hours of amusement, entertainment, and dark humor. When those two are at it, the rest of the story doesn't matter so much.

What do we make of this book which crowds out Joe almost entirely and gives us relatively little amusement, entertainment, and dark humor from Elvis? The plot had better be pretty good. And it starts off like that, until it twists into dry gulch you've been down far too many times before. As a result, the book ends with a whimper rather than a bang. It's definitely deflating for the reader.

But if you are a dyed-in-the-wool fan of this series, you'll want to read the book. It's good enough not to skip. Keep your expectations low and you'll enjoy the book more than I did.

Cole and Pike return in this average thriller by Robert Crais

Review Date: 2008-08-18
Three years ago, Elvis Cole aided defense attorney Alan Levy in clearing Lionel Bird's name. Bird had been arrested for the killing of Yvonne Bennett. Cole found proof that Bird had been having a drink across town at the time of the murder. Now, Bird has killed himself and police find in his lap a book of pictures. The pictures are of seven murder victims and these pictures along with evidence found in the house prove that Bird was a serial killer. Or was he? That is what Cole has to find out. Did his actions in freeing Bird allow Bird to continue to kill? The guilt weighs on Cole and he spends the rest of the novel trying to find the truth about Cole as well as why the police are continuing the investigation after naming Bird as the killer.

Robert Crais brings back all the regulars: Carole Starkey, John Chen, Joe Pike, and Cole all work together at various times trying to piece together Bird's life and if he really was the killer. This is a good book, but a definite let down after the Watchman featuring Joe Pike. This book doesn't have any flashbacks or new insight into Pike or Cole's life. Nor does anything happen in Pike or Cole's personal life. These personal touches into the personal lives of Cole and PIke, or the strong secondary characters (Larkin Barkely in the Watchman) are what have made Crais' novels so good. Chasing Darkness is full of twists and turns but lacks the characterization that made his previous novels so good. Another problem I had with Chasing Darkness was the formula. It stuck out like a sore thumb. Cole is a detective, yet in all of Crais' novels, usually ends up doing police work. So, each novel has a justification for why Cole has to be included. Then, each novel usually has a police chief angry with Cole for interferring, then it all works out in the end. This formula dragged the book down a bit as well.

I recommend this book to Crais fans, but those curious about the author should start with LA Requiem or the Last Detective.

We bought the cassettes four years ago and wore them out, so I was thrilled to get this on CD. My kids love these songs and you learn alot about the flow of biblical history from them. It is a really good compilation. I am surprised by what they can remember from the songs. My only complaint with the CD version is that occasionally the last few words of a song got cut off when they cut the songs for the CD. My kids notice it because we had the cassettes for so long so they know the songs very well. But I am so HAPPY to have it on CD. Now when we make the 5 hour drive to Grandma's, we listen to these all the way. LOVE IT!

He says something as if it is in "quotation marks," in EVERY sentence. Who talks like that? Gets to be distracting.

Also, he references "study after study" frequently, but I would love to hear him cite a study.

My main gripe with him is his speaking habit of quoting one-third to one-half of each sentence. You'll know what I mean when you listen to him speak about ANYTHING. No other speaker does this.

There are just a few books that my husband and I have both read and enjoyed cover to cover. This is one. As a voracious reader I can tell you this title left me smarter, more inspired, more intentional and conscious than I was on page one.

If we are judged by the caliber of books we house in our library, well, then, I am feeling like a star right now. This title has been named one of 2008's Top Books for Awakening by Soul Salon International and for good reason. Check out Soul Salon International to see the books that share the honors with this title. Well done James, keep spreading your light!

The author makes it sound so easy to achieve what you want through keeping your thoughts, feelings and actions in alignment...the law of attraction otherwise known as The Secret. I recommend you read this book and Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook and exercises from Living The Secret will make it easy. Must read both.

When I got an email saying that this book was released, I immediately logged on and bought it. It did take me a few more weeks to get around to reading it, and I should not have waited. I saw James speak live and could tell that he knew what he was talking about and it could help anyone who listened and took action.

Harmonic Wealth explains how to achieve wealth in all pillars of your life. James shares his own experiences along with the stories of others in a nice to read way.

Well written

Well written book. Very clear and precise on the subject matter. Anyone should be able to understand what the book is about. It's a good idea to do the work, because it will help you understand and realize the harmony of it all. I've already encouraged others to buy this book. Great reading to all!

Horrible book.

A book discussing all aspects of the human experience intrigued me. James' "Five Pillars," however, are scattered with mathematical conundrums, personal bolstering, and bad editing.

On top of this, James doesn't say anything that hasn't been said. He simply writes down age-old truths, interspersed with his self promotion and boring stories. Now, I can tolerate repackaged wisdom, but in this book you have to read 750 pages of garbage to arrive at a few pages worth reading.

Lastly, Ray is a greasy salesman. You can literally feel how insincere he is while reading this promotional tool. He has supposedly tried to combine God and wealth his entire life, and I think he finally said "screw it" and made a deal with the devil to sell this terrible book. FOR SHAME, RAY, FOR SHAME!
