Marianne Williamson's latest book will uplift many who need to know and understand that reaching 40, 45, 50 and beyond is not the end of the world as they know it. Marianne's dry wit and own experiences help the book along but her profound understanding of the way women think and her intense knowledge of A Course in Miracles glues the whole thing together, allowing for an inspiring read that re-ignites any flames that may have gone out in your life (or perhaps ignites flames that had never been lit!).
I love the way Marianne sees mid life as the opportunity for a second (and sometimes a third) puberty... finally reaching the point in our lives where our personalities have matured enough to know how to handle the opportunities and challenges that we are faced with every day. Retirement is less about stopping work and more to do with finding and doing what is really our passion. At 40 or 50 we have (God willing) another 40 or 50 years to discover that passion and live it, knowing that all the experiences in previous careers and relationships with others have brought us to the point where we now, hopefully, know what to do with it all.

Pleasant enough and upbeat, but when she quoted Werner Ehrhardt (founder of EST) in the introduction, I knew I'd made a mistake. I started looking around for her credentials and couldn't find any credentials of any sort. A good friend could give an equally good or better pep talk. Not very promising, so I sent it back.

This is a must read for all those "woe is me" people always complaining about everything. Man's Search for Meaning will enlighten you to what "having a bad day" really means. I applaud Viktor Frankl for his inner strength to survive such an ordeal and come away with such dignity and inner peace.

First, I must say the team that came up with the cover did a brilliant job. As a corporate director of human resources, I am continually engaged in sharing data with the field and also with my superiors. The techniques and tips in this book have been successfully deployed in my recent presentations. The improved feedback and real world observations prove that I am doing a better job at communicating our ideas.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is engaged in a dynamic field such as human resources where the guide posts seem to move each week. When you have to get it right - EEOC, ADA, FMLA, etc., you want to ensure it sticks. Michael L. Gooch, SPHR - Author of Wingtips with Spurs

Made to Stick is a great book designed to help you made your ideas more memorable. It is not designed to give you the power to come up with new ideas, but to make the most of what's available to you. The authors use a wide variety of examples of "sticky" and non "sticky" concepts to show you what works and what does not.
The epitome of their framework is the "Jared" marketing campaign that Subway used several years ago. This campaigned contained all of their features for a "sticky" idea: Simplicity, Unexpectedness, Concreteness, Credibility, Emotion, and a Story. As you can see, they even tried to make their framework sticky by having it spell out SUCCES.
The book itself stays true to its word, in that the examples and framework they provide are sufficiently memorable that I feel the knowledge I have gained from reading this will "stick" with me for many years to come.
Highly recommended.

Chip and Dan Heath have written a priceless book, full of wisdom and great stories about what makes for effective teaching and leadership. It's not the razzle-dazzle of our teaching that makes a difference, they say, but whether we incorporate six key characteristics. I've been in the education business for almost 40 years and I learned a LOT from this book. Highly recommended!

The Heath brothers have created one of the best and most memorable contributions to true marketing creativity. They utilize off-the-beaten path stories and analogies to bring their concepts to life and help the reader visualize the benefits of sticky marketing. While some reviewers have said the book was hard to get through, I'd urge you to stick with the book to the end -- and start making a habit of reading the Heath brothers' column in Biz Week

I own several of Belleruth Naparstek's meditative CD's, and this one is my favorite...the one I return to again and again.
Naparstek constructs stunning metaphors and images that take you on a journey through your heart. Even though I have used this recording hundreds of times, different phrases and visualizations jump out at me and present themselves in repeated listenings. The accompanying music --at times reflective and occasionally soaring -- is carefully choreographed to maximize the experience.
The final segment, a set of affirmations to be repeated silently or aloud, similarly encourages the development of one's self-agency and personal power.
I have found this disc to be an invaluable resource for facilitating my personal growth and healing.

Thank you Bellaruth and Co. for your amazing talent. This CD is an amazing and healing gift. It has to be the most deceptively simple piece of recorded meditation I've ever heard, yet it is densely planted with so many great seeds that has an immediate and positive effect. It's not always a pleasant activity to listen to this and deal with PTSD, but it's a sure sign it's working.

This CD is amazing. I am familiar with Belleruth's work and have read her book "Invisible Heroes." I found this was excellent and became interested in her CD's.
I was interested in them for both personal use and use in helping clients (I am a therapist and work with clients who have PTSD). I found her voice to be very soothing and engaging. I did not find myself drifting or focusing on the language too much. What great descriptors and imagery she uses!
I would recommend this CD to anyone who suffers from trauma of any sort - abuse, dysfunctional home life, war experience, death of a loved one, sexual assault, etc. It will definitely improve your mood and your sense that you can control your condition.

This is an extraordinary tape, far surpassing any expectations I might have had. Having experienced severe bullying as a kid, I'm not as together around people as some might be. However, it still works on me after many listenings, and my profound thanks to Ms. Naparstek and her staff for making these recordings. If you start crying after the first listening, make several copies for yourself. This is one CD you're going to wear out very quickly.
Good tool for Trauma but assumes too much on listeners part

This is a good resource to use, but what do you do if you have a hard time "visualizing," let alone understanding the significance of, the concepts she speaks of (safe place, healing waves, etc)?
I was trying everything to shake my history of child abuse by building up my self-esteem, exercising, etc but there would always be a "thin-skin" or a "hot button" that I couldn't fix, and I was still "traumatized" by certain triggers. When I first got this tape, it helped somewhat but in my mind, I thought it was a little ridiculous to "pretend" a safe place, "pretend" the healing sparkles in my body, "pretend" there was a companion following me, and pretend the "animal helpers." I don't live in a Lord of the Rings world! The mind cannot be tricked so easily.
Also, my mind was so distracted and noisy from the trauma (the destructive auto-pilot patterns of thought) that sometimes i would zone out from the messages. How can you pay attention to something for so long if you are suffering from trauma?
I would strongly suggest you couple this with "mindfulness" (a part of meditation) as it really increases your focus and emotionally stability. Also, if you are a somewhat realistic person like me who doesn't like the fairy dust visualizing you can actually do this opening your eyes and finding a real life "safe place" (I suggest a garden or something quiet, nice, and peaceful.) Oh and the "healing energy," if you are practicing mindfulness while doing this cd, you will feel actual tingling and "popping" sensations all over your body. Just be aware of that and don't stop the process (mindfulness helps stop the stopping process hehe). At least thats what I did. Again, if this doesn't apply to you just ignore my advice as different things work for everyone.
Oh and something that also helped, which I would give credit for if I knew where it came from: "humans have the innate ability to recover from trauma and emotional stress, but we also have the innate egotisicalness to stop the process." So true. Thats where mindfulness comes in "nonjudgemental attitude towards feelings, thoughts, body sensations."
So here was what I did:
1)Listened to this for two weeks
2)Practiced mindfulness and listened to another resource at night (the secret universal mind meditation 2)
3) practiced mindfulness while in a safe place like Beth talks about and being aware of the "healing." SO IMPORTANT to be aware of the POSITIVE HEALING too, not just the negatives (if you are feeling angry and scared, but also confident, happy, glad, and calm, those negatives seem smaller huh? EMOTIONAL DEPTH).
Hope that helps and if that doesnt work for you then disregard this. But give a 100% effort

Nightingale recorded Lead the Field back in the 1980s. As such, when you listen to it you will first hear that the audio quality is quite awful. But do your best to listen his words, because they are extremely motivating. Nightingale gets you thinking about your goals and your attitudes.
A lot of what he tries to convey to the listening is self-empowerment. You may try to make up excuses as to why you are not successful, such as your family's background. Nightingale will inspire you to create goals and to remind yourself that your attitude determines a lot. These sound like simple concepts, and they are, but most people don't spend anytime thinking of them, or they think about them a lot but not in the right way. They see a goal as being unachievable and give up. Nightingale explores these topics and gives us memorable facts and fables.
Teachers should hand out Lead the Field to every high school senior, it is that good.
I highly recommend this audiobook. I'm sure that I will return to it when I need a good kick to get me back on track with my goals.

I have just started listening to "Lead the Field" and am only a few chapters into it. So far I hang on every word. This is my 2nd book by Earl Nightingale - the first was "The Strangest Secret". Simply delighted with both. He has an engaging, captivating way of sharing his inspiring words. I would recommend it to anyone.

I was not really impressed at the beggining, however I decided to listen it as long as I paid some money. It was a briliant idea. The more I listen it, the more I liked. Full of wisdom, full of ideas and suggestions about what you should do in order to "Lead the Field". I have not been a fan of Earl Nighthingale, thinking that he is from the old school of personal motivation and success, but I was completely wrong. The old principles and ideas are valid today and will be sure valid also tommorow.

I've bought virtually every self-improvement/success audio/video out there, (I've spent over 18K on these materials) and of them all, this multi-CD set is the most powerful and moving set I've gotten, of hundreds.
I have to thank Jeffrey Gitomer for bringing Earls' "The Strangest Secret" to my awareness at one of his excellent seminars, where I bought the cd.
Then I discovered these, via the nightingale website. This set of CDs is the most valuable I've ever listened to. Also the extended "Strangest Secret" 5-cd set and Essence of Success are very valuable.
Highly recommended, profoundly moving to me and something I'll be re-listening to for the rest of my life. Get it. Also get all of Brian Tracy's stuff, it's great. And the Napoleon Hill cds.
To your success,
-Ken

This book would have been a good article in a magazine but not a book. Mostly it is about SEAL training and the background of the author( heavily ghost written). Not to take anything away from the accounts of the men, but this just isn't substance for a book.

This is a great book that's destined to become a classic. Marcus Luttrell's first person account of his experience in Afghanistan is riveting and thrilling. You won't be able to put it down. A real bonus is his willingness to explain the impact of liberal hand-wringing and incessant criticism of military personnel serving their country in dangerous places. It's not at all surprising to see reviews by liberals posing as military personnel just to attack Marcus Luttrell's experiences and viewpoints. Posing is, I suppose, what they do best. Buy the book, you will NOT be disappointed.

This was a great book. I could hardly put it down. I hope more people will read this book and know what our solders are up against in this war on terrorism. Marcus and his men are real heroes.
Very good book, don't listen to the hate

Reading the negative reviews and then reading the book I have to wonder if these negative reviewers and I read the same book. I think the guy is allowed his opinions after what he went through. Not to mention his opinions are just common sense. Also I love the reviews that say no spec ops soldier would ever kill an innocent civilian. I remember that during the first Gulf war a Green Beret team was sent to check out a MSR and they had the same choice to make. They also didn't kill the goat herders and almost died. So in the future if it comes between our boys coming home or the goat herder, unsheath your steel and go to work. Real Americans want to see our brave warriors come home alive.
This is the most worthwhile book. A story that every person should be familiar with. So don't let the liberals who hate the military and their country turn you off too a fine read.

This book should be required reading for ALL politicans and reporters.
I had to read this in complete privacy and solitude.
I read each word at least 5 times to make sure I honored the hero's the author is telling about, including himself.
I knew I could never become a SEAL so I chose another path, but I was fortunate to have served with a number of them.outside their community and this author is actually quite modest in his appraisal of them and their deeds.
For any military personnel or former military personnel I can only say one thing, BUY AND READ IT , you will cry and swell with pride all at the same time.
Thank You Sir for your service and writing this book.

I recently started a book club and this was our first pick. It could not have been a better choice. Everyone had it read in plenty of time. No complaints on the choice I made either. This book tells a very emotionally charged story. Once I started reading it, I was constantly stealing time to read, until it was finished. Hope there is a part II.
Specific time, specific place, but timeless and overarching

I lost a bet with my wife and was forced to read this book. Let me just say, Im very glad that my pick for the final four lost when it did, because this was the best book I had read in a long time.
What struck me most about Kite Runner is how specific and detailed the setting was-Afghanistan, a world few Americans understand. The main character's memories were vivid and enlightening, and likely not one of us born stateside can really identify with pomegraneate trees, kite running, and the threat of constant rpg fire. But the themes that cut through the book, the guilt, the redemption, the family ties, the bond of blood, this is the stuff of all people, of all races.
This book is a a fantastic piece of literature, a work that is at both educating and empowering, painful to read but healing to finish. First rate.

The book was fantastic. It is sad, yet heart warming at the same time. It addresses very real issues...and the characters are wonderfully developed. The author teaches alot through these characters...about friendship...loyalty...hate...shame...acceptance...and brotherhood. Absolutely amazing.
Something a culturally blind person needs to read- an excellet book.

I read the book when it was brought into my book club. I found the wording to be easy to read and the characters highly interesting, but what I really loved was the fact that it gives people a view of a different culture and helps them understand it more. I have met so many people who see people from the middle east as just terrorists, and that is simply awful. The story is moving and it touched my heart. I would recommend it to anyone.
A surprise

I bought this book because my book club chose to read and discuss it. I did not think it was the type of book I would enjoy, but I absolutely did. I will soon be reading another book by the same author and can't wait!

If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
By Laura Joffe Numeroff
Illustrated by Felicia Bond
"If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk."
One thing leads to another in this cute picture book. When you get finished with all of the mouse's requests, he may just want another glass of milk. And we all know what goes well with milk.

I really wanted this book to catch on with my two sons during our bedtime reading. I liked the concept of showing that one action creates another and another. However, the book didn't work and here's why:
1. The narrator doesn't have a voice. Put this against "Green Eggs and Ham" where you've got two distinct voices playing off each other or "Monster at the End of this Book" where Grover's voice goes from whisper to yelling and finally back down to a whimper. This book doesn't help bedtime readers. I might as well have read a motorcycle manual.
2. The story wears on you just as the mouse wears on the boy. I thought it was telling that near the end of the book, the boy in the story falls asleep in a rocking chair. The actions didn't get sillier or funnier or more intesting; there was just one right after another.
3. What the mouse does beyond eating a cookie isn't neither creative nor interesting. For a small character in a big world, choose instead the classic "Jack in the Beanstalk" or a mouse with character, "Stuart Little."
In summary, I give it 2 out of 5 stars. This might make a good early reader book but forget about adding it to your bedtime reading collection.

And it's still a favorite around here two years later!
It amazes me that this book is almost as old as I am, is of course considered a very popular classic, and yet - I never read it until I was an adult!
Given its age, I'm sure everybody *else* here knows the plot, but just in case, this is a book about a (very logical, I'm sure) series of misadventures that happens after you give something to a mouse. Every request leads to another thing, and another, and another, until the poor boy in the story falls dead asleep.
This book is too cute, and it's funny, too, in a way that both adults and kids will appreciate.
Plus, it's short, which is great for those "Oh dear, go to BED already!" kind of nights!

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is a modern classic, beloved by children everywhere. It is also a book that teaches about sequential action and consequence. For example, if you give a mouse a cookie, he is going to ask for a glass of milk. If you give him a glass of milk, he will probably ask for straw. As the book continues, the drink leads to a napkin, which leads to a mirror (to check for a milk mustache), which leads to a haircut, which leads to cleaning up, etc., and so forth. The tale eventually comes full circle, with thirst leading to a glass of milk, which leads back to giving a mouse a cookie. And of course, if you give a mouse a cookie...
My three year old and I love reading this together at bedtime. I start the sentence on each page ("If you give a mouse an xxxx...), and she shouts out the end of the sentence (",...he is going to xxxx."). The result is lots of giggles which are very nice right before bedtime.
This fun, entertaining book is beautifully illustrated with rich, detailed, colorful drawings. I highly recommend this book for small children and beginning readers, and I guarantee that it will quickly become a family favorite.

Marianne Williamson does a fabulous job of encouraging us to wake up to the bounty of life still in front of us. Her warm and witty style, generous nature and insightful perspectives beckon the reader to open up to possibilities. She refers to our midlife years of transition as "sacred years" and I wholeheartedly agree. It's time to make peace with our past and BE the woman we've become.
