Monotony, marginally useful info and a condescending speaker.
I purchased the audio version after reading the reviews here. The author seems condescending at times, the information is not terribly useful, and he keeps repeating "and that could be the difference maker" over and over. I could not take it anymore and thought to myself, "if he says that one more time in this chapter I am done with this". Of course he repeated it. I can't believe how many good reviews this has.

The problem with the sound recording is that it fades in and out. Therefore, in some spots, Eckhart sounds like he is mumbling. I had to turn my player up to the highest decibel level to be able to hear what he had to say, especially at the beginning. The sound gets stronger towards the end of the program. Nevertheless, it is well worth listening to him, even if you have to go over certain tracks a few times.
I am glad I was able to tune into this retreat, but was puzzled that the publisher thought the product was good enough to release without amplifying the sound to produce a more even result. I wonder if they put the CDs through a quality control process.

I have almost all of Mr. Tolle's works, and I was disappointed with the audio on these cd's. I cannot embrace the message of Mr. Tolle because He sounds like he is in the back of a long pipe. Perhaps this is just a bad copy....but I will think twice about the cd collections next time... just get the book?

This set of CD's is chock full of Tolle's transformational teachings. His voice is mesmerizing and his wicked little chuckles reveal a side of him that is not found immediately in his recent book "A New Earth". Unfortunately, the recording quality is funky. Even with the volume turned all the way up in my Scion xB, the master is hard to hear. Be sure to choose a quiet surrounding in which to listen!

The Art of Presence is another extraordinary CD release by one of the clearest and most pragmatic spiritual teachers of our times. He guides you how to deepen the realization of your essential nature and points that the answer is in your attention. You can progressively strengthen the quality of this relaxed alertness and eventually sustain it, which allows a shift beyond the mind-made self and all of its compulsive thinking.
During his 7 hours of instruction, you learn how to ground yourself in the inner body and how to connect with the perceiver of your experiences to realize the wisdom of spiritual surrender. Accessing this higher intelligence then empowers right action. This is a retreat from the chaos of the life story into the fullness of life here and now.
Included in this collection he addresses overcoming the addiction to emotions, transforming your relationship with the present moment, how to truly meet another person, why form is never ultimately fulfilling, resting as inner stillness, time freedom, nature as teacher, the quickest way to transcend fear, the practice of allowing and freeing the pain body.

Meggie and her dad Mo (a traveling book binder) live a semi-nomadic existence moving from town to town all over Europe healing old books in need of new bindings. They love reading, living most of their lives in books, but to Meggie's chagrin Mo never reads to her. Upon the arrival of a vagrant called Dustfinger, Meggie learns why her father never reads aloud. The two are catapulted into a perilous adventure that Mo had tried to protect Meggie from all of her young life in which evil villains from a book are want Mo to work for them. Why? Read the book and find out how they got out of the pages of fiction, where Meggis' missing mother is, and what the power of words can mean in a world that often seems empty and boring.
This is one of the most fun and imaginative books I've come across in a long time. The characters are well drawn, the action is compelling, and it is just fun to turn the pages to see what is on the other side of each piece of paper. For lovers of books and those who are just getting into reading this is a great piece of fiction. Parents it is a bit intense for very young readers, but for adoloscents to people in their Golden Years I highly recommend this memorable book.

Meggie Folchart is twelve years old, and lives with her father, Mo. The pair are very close to each other, and have a shared passion for books - Mo, in fact, is a very talented book restorer. They have lived in their current home for a year, though it seems they have a history of moving from place to place. Strangely, however, Meggie had to teach herself to read - she can't ever remember Mo reading to her when she was small. Meggie's mother, on the other hand, has been missing for many years - she apparently went off on some sort of adventure holiday and never came back.
In the finest traditions of storytelling, Mo and Meggie's adventures start with the arrival of a visitor on a dark and rainy night. Meggie has no idea who he is, but they have met once before - nine years earlier, when Meggie was only three. While Meggie has no real memory of him, Mo remembers him very well. Their visitor is called Dustfinger, a fire-eating juggler with an unusual pet marten called Gwin. Strangely, Dustfinger calls Mo `Silvertongue' - and, furthermore, Mo seems to feel in Dustfinger's debt. Despite Mo insisting he talks to Dustfinger in private, Meggie listens to the conversation through the keyhole of Mo's workshop.
It seems that Dustfinger wants Mo to bring a mysterious book on to someone called Capricorn - another strange name, and clearly an utter villain. Mo, for his part, wants nothing to do with Capricorn, and is determined to keep this book out of his hands. He and Meggie pack up their belongings after Dustfinger leaves, and take off early the following morning. However, Dustfinger clearly expected the pair to run and catches up with them - and persuades Mo to let him tag along...
Since Capricorn is apparently based in the north, Mo has decided to head south and visit Elinor, an aunt of Meggie's mother. Elinor lives near the lakes in northern Italy, and she is also passionate about books - though more as a collector than a reader. She is very well off, and lives in a huge - and very imposing - house. However, Mo believes her fortune is dwindling due to the huge number of rare books she buys. Mo won't show Meggie the book that Capricorn is after, which only makes her even more curious about it. However, he doesn't keep it from Elinor. In fact, Elinor has heard of the mysterious book - it's extremely rare and, apparently, the few copies that become available are generally stolen. Elinor is single, has no children and - to begin with, at least - is rather crusty. There's quite a bit of verbal sparring between Elinor and Meggie when they first meet, but - in time - they warm to each other. Unfortunately, Elinor and her imposing house can't protect Meggie and Mo from Capricorn and his vicious henchmen...although they do pick up some rather unexpected allies along the way.
"Inkheart" is a great read and - despite being pretty long for a kids' book - rattles along a fair pace. There are plenty of nods to other famous books - "Huckleberry Finn", "Tom Sawyer", "Peter Pan", "Treasure Island", "Alice in Wonderland", "The Princess Bride", "Charlotte's Web" and "The Lord of the Rings", for example. (Elinor comments once that "our journey isn't going to be half as bad as those hairy-footed people's quest"). In fact, I could see this book encouraging the reader to reach for any number of those tiles as well - not to mention the sequels that follow on from this book. Totally recommended.

"This book is one of the best books I've ever read. It's very readable. The cover is very colorful and very well detailed. It kept my attention cover to cover." This is what my 10 year old daughter thought. The story is very inventive and just about impossible to guess what the next turn of events will be. For something fun I would also recommend the audio book; a ton a fun for long trips.

The book is 297 pages & is divided into 21 chapters. The most crucial ones for me were "Honor, Being There, Forgiveness, Missing Dads, The Protector, Discipline, & 75 Reasons."
What was so refreshing about this book was the theme of basic normalcy & decency that most people seem to have. This book should appeal to most people, but it is not only or truly a book about a "father-son relationship." It came across more as a memoir of intimate vignettes, some of which are negative. One of a son whose father missed out being a a dad because of his drug addiction which eventually killed him.
Two of the more positive stories were when a father comforted his son after he told his dad that he was gay, & Kerry a girl who grew up with a stutter, whose dad held her hand & told her "it's ok". There are many life lessons in these stories that are very applicable to people regardless of their own individual backgrounds, beliefs, & experiences. All in all a very inspirational & intimate read.

A cd in the car is great, no reading required and it makes the time go by faster while at the same time learning and refeshing yourself.

The best selling author of The Servant, James Hunter, guides us through 4 CD's packed with practical advice for how to change your way of thinking about "leaders" without thinking in terms of managers or supervisors. Although it is a very useful tool for business, it also provides an opportunity for it to work within relationships - family, friends and life in general. To truly be an inspirational leader you must serve those that you lead. For example, if you want to ruin a business, just treat your employees bad and they'll take it out on the customers!
Where two or more people are together there is an opportunity for leadership. Different authors do call it different things, and this is not an entirely new idea, however, Servant Leadership is all to do with people, relationships, character and doing the right thing. Large organisations are taking this on, practising these principles to increase morale, productivity, and profit. Using these techniques, the power to influence and inspire confidence appears to work when you hear which big companies are named as fans of this profound seminar. Good management is no longer good enough, you need good leaders! It's about who you are and your ability to inspire people to action, to influence people to be the best they can be.
This course excited me. I found it encouraging as it inspired me to raise my game, increase confidence and achieve goals in both my personal and business life. For it to work, however, you must be willing to learn, and then put it into practice. This is one step that James Hunter is very hot on. It's easy to get excited just by reading a book, or in this case listening to the CD's, but to become a better leader and serve you must put what you have learnt into practice. The twelve page study guide included within this course ensures a road map (a way to apply this) is provided. As James C. Hunter says, to truly benefit, you must move what you have learnt from your head to your heart, then from your heart into your actions. Inspiring!

James C. Hunter takes ancient concepts and presents them in a modern format to encourage change in the workplace. All aspects of leaderships are addressed from the basics of good character to the finer elements of putting love and kindness into action.
What is it most people want to see in a leader?
What does it mean to serve as a leader?
What is the definition of character?
How can leaders inspire their workers to excellence?
What truly motivates employees?
The booklet with the CD set includes exercises:
Exercise 1 - A Leadership Skills Inventory
Exercise 2 - Leadership Skills Inventory - Self-Assessment
Exercise 3 - Leadership Skills Inventory Summary
Exercise 4 - Leadership Skills Inventory Summary...continued
Exercise 5 - Smart Action Plan
Through the exercises (which are discussed in detail on the CDs) you learn how to become a better leader through self-analysis. There are also ways to get feedback from your employees. A small business card with a summary of the presentation is also included for easy reference.
James C. Hunter has well-organized thoughts on leadership and an engaging teaching style. He can at times emphasize points by making you feel uncomfortable with a topic, therefore ensuring you won't forget his points. Hugging and spanking don't really mean hugging and spanking. In this case they mean encouraging or giving admonition. But with those types of labels, you are sure not to forget the main points.
I sat listening to the four CDs focusing on them completely the entire time, completely captivated by the wisdom side of the topic at hand. The main points on these CDs are truly secrets for success. The sparkling glints on the water in this presentation are truly diamonds.

I put off listening to this CD for quite a while. That in itself is telling of whrere my brain is. When I finally did listen to it, it hit me like a ton of bricks! There was no reason for me to be afraid to listen to this great CD. Her voice is calming, reassuring, and easy to listen to. On some of the other tapes I have purchased, the voices have made me feel crazy, by being too nasal, or just plain annoying, with the accents that seem phoney, or way too business like. Dr. Virtue makes you feel as if she is talking right to you. I actually began to relax and take in all that she had to say. My body is no longer "just my body" any more. It is a reflection of who I am, and why would I want myself to be any less than what I can truly be? You gotta' hear it to believe it. I am going to play it over and over. While not being too much over weight, I was finally able to pretty much stop all of my night time emotional eating and have lost 11 pounds. I'm starting to feel like myself again, and I no longer wait for the husband and the kid to go to bed, so that I can so enjoy that half bottle of Bud Light and half the bag of cheese corn. It is very freeing. I went out and bought five more of her books and the new CD set that just came out. Dr. Virtue, you just keep getting better and better. I wish I had know about you 20 years ago. Thank you for making the incredible journey that you have made, so that others, like myself can make their journey, and not have to struggle so hard along the way. Thank you. Thank you.

I was happy to come across Doreen Virtue Ph.D. This tape expains the truth that we must start with the inside to affect the outside. This author speaks with compassion and easy direct explanations. Most do not realize that we use food as a drug to dull sensations and feelings in the body. I felt empowered after listening to this tape. I believe this is the first step to weight loss, the belief that when you take care of yourself the rest of the work is done for you. The book/tape gives you ways for the angels to assist you. I would highly recommend this book/tape to anyone who is tired of the promises that are out there for weight loss.

A truly wonderful productfor those who want to address weight issues! Doreen is a clairvoyant doctor of psychology who works with the angelic, elemental, and ascended-master realms. The logic in this CD is right on target, in my opinion, whether you believe in angels or you view the information strictly from a psychological and scientific stand.
Doreen explains that if we get out of balance, our inner voice tells us to do something to put us back in balance. If we ignore it, then the inner voice tells us to eat "this" to make you temporarily feel better. When we try to silence the gut is when we get into trouble. Shove some food down there to silence the visions/inner guidance. We need to be ready to face the truth, but often say "I'll just wait until xxx. -- Wait. Wait for what? There will always be an excuse to wait, if you're not ready to face the truth. As Doreen says, you really cannot shut up divine guidance--that voice keeps coming back. "There is not enough chocolate in the world to drown out the voice of God."
She tells her own story of how she finally surrendered to her own inner guidance, and then how things just started to unfold. She was afraid at first and didn't know how to do things. When she surrendered, her appetite changed. Doreen reminds us, "Overeating is a way of putting off for the future what your divine guidance is telling you to do now."
She talks about fear, anger, tension and shame, and how they play a powerful role in packing on the weight. Spiritual healing with the angels is the most effective way to weight loss (and I COMPLETELY agree.)
Anyway, if you want to lose weight, this is a very worthwhile product to get. Like I said, in my opinion, she is right on target. I think this product will give you valuable tips to get rid of your "packing" issues and begin to deal with the weight.
Oh, if you think you're going to find a magic pill or diet--you know, a special pill made from squid brains or a special diet where all you eat is lizard eggs, forget it! Been there. Done that.
By the way, I've lost 59 lbs in the last 15 months and am keeping it off, so I do understand about wanting to lose weight. I am also 58 years old, so it didn't come easy. My metabolism ain't what it used to be.

I am an eager reader of books on Warren Buffett's investing methods. I really want to like "The Intelligent Investor", but I don't. Unfortunately, Benjamin Graham did not write his books to be timeless. Instead, he wrote them specifically for the investing environments as they existed at the times of publication. This audiobook is of the 1972 edition of "The Intelligent Investor", and it reflects the investing environment of the early 1970's.
The story of Mr. Market and the principle of "a margin of safety" are important concepts contained in this book, but they can be found in other writings by and about Warren Buffett.
There is an updated edition of "The Intelligent Investor" by Jason Zweig. It was published in 2003. Hopefully that is better than the older, outdated editions. It is not (yet) available in audio format.
If you are looking for a good audiobook on Warren Buffett's investing methods, I highly recommend "How to Pick Stocks Like Warren Buffett" by Timothy Vick. The best book on Buffett's investing methods that I have read is "The New Buffettology" by Mary Buffett, but it is not available as an audiobook.

This is a great book! It is well written and the story line is very easy to follow. This book was one of three books that was required summer reading for my daughter's 6th grade class and she loved it as well. It gave her a different perspective on the different and most often times unfair treatment African American received during the 1930s. I strongly recommend this book to every young person to learn a few of life's lessons.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry shows how in the South, African Americans were treated. One complaint about the whites and the African Americans where in danger of being sent to jail, losing land, and death. This story is told from a African American girl, Cassie Logan, and gives readers a taste of the Southern life she faced.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
By Mildred D. Taylor
Published by Scholastic, Inc., 1976
210 pages
Historical fiction
Reading levels: 6.9 grade level equivalent, 920 Lexile level
Mildred Taylor's novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a captivating story told from the perspective of a fourth grader, Cassie, struggling to understand the segregation that plagues her cotton-growing region of Mississippi during the early 1930s.
The story begins as Cassie and her siblings trudge down the dusty dirt road on their way to the first day of school. The first injustice readers experience is seen through the eyes of Cassie's younger brother, Little Man. The first grader refuses to take a textbook when he discovers that the books have already been used by white students. Only after 11 years of use were the books old and ragged enough to be given to "nigra" students, as written inside the covers.
In the next chapter, Cassie and her three brothers deal with the injustice of the school bus. The bus passes them on their walk to school every morning, but it is only for white students. Yet after carrying out a trick to get back at the bus driver, the siblings are afraid they will be found out and will receive the same fate as a family of black neighbors who were burned after making retaliatory comments to a white storekeeper. Throughout the story, fear of who these "night men" will attack next keeps Cassie's family on edge, particularly because the family owns land desired by one of the involved white men.
Cassie next experiences the injustices of segregation when she gets to take her first trip to town with her grandmother. There, Cassie and her brothers must wait in the store as white people, even a young girl, are helped before them. Upon leaving the store, Cassie gets herself into trouble when she refuses to step off the sidewalk to let another girl her age walk by. Cassie is also reluctant to apologize and address the white girl as "Miss."
Throughout the story, Cassie's older brother Stacey repeatedly gets into trouble because of the lying and tricks of his friend T.J. By the end of the story, T.J. is known as a thief and has made friends with two local white boys. Those two boys wind up getting T.J. into enough trouble that the night men once again set out to wreak havoc on T.J.'s family and other local black families. Only a clever turn of events is able to prevent dire outcomes in the enthralling final two chapters of the novel.
While a great read overall, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a bit confusing for two reasons. First, the characters are at times hard to sort out. It can be difficult to keep Cassie, her siblings, and their young friends straight. It also can be difficult to keep the local families involved in the story straight. The novel is difficult to understand also when Cassie's grandmother explains how the family came to own the farmland around which much of the story's conflict revolves. However, with careful attention, the characters and history can be sorted out, and the story's interesting events will keep you reading.
If you are looking for a page-turner, this book will not disappoint you. Mildred Taylor's vivid descriptions give her characters distinct personalities that bring the novel to life. The novel is a chain of short stories that are entertaining enough to stand alone, but together carry readers to the novel's thrilling climax and conclusion.
Taylor's novel effectively conveys the experiences of children who are just beginning to learn how segregation affects their lives. Readers come to deeper understanding of the hatefulness and unfairness of many white people's treatment of their black neighbors during the early 1930s. Taylor also includes enough explanation of the history of slavery and segregation for readers to fully understand the events. Even if segregation is not a topic of great interest to you, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry will hook you till the last page. A Newberry medal winner, this is a famous book that everyone should read. I assure you that it is well worth your purchase.

Wayne Dyer again presents us with another piece of inspired writing that helps lift your soul from the shadows of darkness to the light of day. This book, Being in Balance is a tool needed for many to get their mind and attitude right. It empowers you to cleanse the negative and self-doubting thoughts that consistently prevent you from achieving your dreams and aspirations. In chapter six,"You can't discover light by analyzing the darkness", reinforces the dilemmas and barriers we place in front of us that prevent us from achieving prosperity, whether monetarily or spiritually.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason! This book fell into my lap through an incredible offer from a television home shopping network - one which whom I never pay any mind to. However, after reading and loving "The Power of Intention", which was my first real exposure to Dr Dyer, the message that he would be featured on the show piqued my interest and got me to tune in.
It doesn't end there though. I didn't dive in to the book immediately upon receipt - was I not ready for it yet? Hmmm...
So a few weeks went by and in the meantime I happened to see the recently released movie "The Secret". One word to describe it, "WOW"! I was and continue to be blown away!
So out of the 10 or so books that I had on deck to read, this book "Being in Balance" kind of jumped off my shelf at me - Why? I didn't know, but I pick it up and started reading it.
One by one thoughts and concepts passed on by the author just seemed to resonate with me - Do you know that `popping' sound when something just clicks with you?
This was the quintessential "right book at the right time" for me. It not only solidified some concepts that I just picked up from "The Secret" but it simplified and expanded my understanding of them.
It became even more evident to me that Dr. Dyer is simply tuned in! I'm about to embark on another book by him called "Inspiration" and I'm just thrilled with anticipation!

I started to bail on this book several times, and now I wish I had. I was intrigued by Santo's murder, since initially he didn't seem to be one who had enemies. This book is way too long. Should have been edited to make it cleaner and quicker. I like my mysteries to zip along more than this lumbering tale. I wish it were tighter, with fewer characters. Definitely one of the plot lines did not move the story along. The ending was unremarkable.

Elizabeth George in my favorite writer, and I purchased "Careless in Red" the day it came out. I was so disappointed in the reviews that it took awhile for me to start it. Big mistake. I thought it was terrific. Perhaps not quite in the league with "Playing for the Ashes" or "Deception of his Mind", but close enough. First, I did not find the characters names hard to remember, or the plot hard to follow. If you are writing about people who live in Cornwall, Tom, Dick and Harriet are not realistic choices. While I did eventually guess the murderer, it took awhile, and certainly made sense. I never found the "who" to be really important in an Elizabeth George novel, but rather the "why".
Second, I found her group of primary and secondary characters to be very appealing and sympathetic. More so then in most of her book. Reviewers who complained, surely could not be regular readers. Elizabeth George's topics have always been realistic, and some of her themes are not pretty.
Third, what do you do with a character who has lost his beloved wife and son in such a horrible manner. To me, having Lynley walk for 43 days until he stumbles upon a body, is as good as any other means for opening the book. I certainly would not have expected him to hit the bars or the booze. I liked Helen and will miss her. During the last 2 years, I have periodically re-read all 13 books, and realize while Helen may have appeared to be fluff on the outside, she was a class act with a strong inner core. I felt the same way about Daidre, who was also a class act, in different ways. She appeared to be exactly what Lynley needed to come back to the world of the living. There was nothing improper about their relationship, as some reviews have suggested. I wondered if she would reappear in future books, much down the road, as their differences would be interesting to see play out on paper. Yes, Havers comes back to aid her dear friend, and as always she is perfect. I did not like Bea, as much as some readers. At times, she appeared too much like (not in looks)to Havers, and there can only be one. With the exception of "A Place of Hiding" all of Elizabeth George's books are 4 to 5 star rating. My only criticism is that it was Helen, not Deborah, who was done away with. I can not figure out what two such dreamy men could see in such a boring, dim-wit women. 13 books, no growth, no personality, leads to boring story-line.
For the record, the three is based solely on the fact that like it or not the woman is a bloody brilliant writer...Now having said that.. I will take up the choice of my title...;-) I now see why a fan can learn to hate the writer... although hate is not truly how I feel, I am still not over the killing of Helen (and I speak for many of us) but also that ridiculous attempt at social statement, trying to in some way let us the readers understand, quote "what came before he shot her" unquote...a total rip off for consumers as these books are not cheap, and falsely called a Lynley/Havers novel.. to which I still take umbrage.. 'Whatever'..as in another review I wrote, I say to her: "Ms George you developed your popularity based on serial detective novels.. Dickens you are not".... But let me get back to 'Careless in Red' The only saving grace for me about this novel was the truly realistic suffering on the part of Thomas Lynley... I needed that catharsis myself.. although some readers felt it out of place, I felt it the only wise thing she has done since before the deed itself.. Why, because he was suffering unbearably just like many of us, at the loss of our beloved Helen and her unborn child.. and in doing so it made Ms George accountable for having inflicted this upon him in the first place...As a writer she must have some bond with Lynley, and so now she must look at what she caused by her decision...
The book as a whole botherd me for many reasons..Mainly most of the characters were so annoying... and self pitying.. I could go on.. As for the end of the book with a murderer getting away..another, Whatever... But I am at the mercy of the writer, because, as most fans will agree, like it or not, any book with our Barbara in it is a must read... ;-)

Really? You guys liked this book? Unfortunately for me, I read this one after I read Playing for the Ashes and a third one - can't remember the title - In all three, the author is definitely out to get the sexually adventerous libertines of the world, even if it ultimately has nothing to do with the plot (the third one I read....the one where Lynley goes to Scotland and the two young people die out on the rocky hills somewhere). Anyway, I was puzzled by the author's apparent moralistic self-righteousness until I saw of list of books by her on Amazon which includes something about loving God with all you mind. Oh, well, that explains it. Elizabeth, relax and live a little. Jesus Christ!

As a big fan of Elizabeth George and the Lynley series, I eagerly anticipated the arrival of Careless in Red. I even had the tingle excitement we "bibliophiles" get when I finally checked it out of the library. Unfortunately, the book is a major disappointment. There are too many characters, many of whom are dysfunctional, uninteresting, and depressing. The writing is laborious at points, especially all the details about surfing, waves, isobars, and minor roads in Cornwall. Lynley was present but may as well have been left out. Havers arrived too late to redeem the book, though her late arrival made the last 300 pages bearable. I never really had any desire to know who killed Santo Kerne, though I do admit I plowed ahead and finished the book... all the while waiting to start on the new Deborah Crombie book (Where Memories Lie). Readers who liked George at her best would do well to read one of Crombie's novels.
