I will probably purchase follow up products from this author.

I have been lucky enough to take two Mindfulness courses and they have changed my life. Both were run by excellent course leaders but nothing compares with hearing Mindfulness founder Jon Kabat Zinn discuss the philosophy and methodology behind it. His wit, compassion and way with words themselves make CD1 compulsive listening as well as explaining the reasons for CD2 which are the practices themselves. I cannot recommend this highly enough to anybody who wants to learn about themselves and especially those seeking release from troubled mind states such as anxiety and depression. Buy it- Mindfulness practitioners will tell you honestly that they make no promises to 'fix things' but it might change your life too...

Friedman covers a lot of ground and also talks about Van Jones, an incredible hero and visionary who has a book coming out this week called The Green Collar Economy. I've linked to it here. For those who want to know more about what is happening at the grassroots, The Green Collar Economy is a must have. The Green Collar Economy: How One Solution Can Fix Our Two Biggest Problems

I have yet to buy the book but I browsed it, including Friedman's website where he has indicated that Chapter 18 will be revised in a later edition. Great! However, I would encourage Mr Friedman not to appear on fascist and extremist shows, such as Glenn Beck. His participation on that evil CNN show has created hesitation for me to buy this book. Certainly, the environmental message appeals to me but I hate anything that promotes the neo-cons and their failed economic "Friedmanian" policies (get it, Tom? Milton? You gotta be careful, buddy!).

I have read every one of his books since From Beirut to Jerusalem and find his writing incisive and clear. He should win the Pulitzer Prize for this one. He traveled all over the world to substantiate his proof that we must take action to save our planet. He should be an advisor to our leaders because as he says,"The counry that leads the way to a green revolution will lead the world."

Hot, Flat, and Crowded is a well written and important book to read based on its subject matter and how being "green" is important from a positive economic position for the U.S.

Global warming and the overall destruction of the environment are more than enough cause for concern, but the enviromental concerns tie into the economy amd the security of the United States. As we are hearing over and over during this election season the transfer of wealth from the U.S. is a concern for many reasons.

His observations that things can be changed, however, are positive. Though it appears a daunting task, and one that has been talked about, if people took some time to address the issues and implemented changes to go "green" it could help reduce reliance on oil, help the enviornment and otherwise help the economy.

This book is well written and puts all these issues together nicely in a way that is easy to follow even if you are not familiar with all the issues. It is not overhanded and the positions are laid out well. It is a primer and more with examples and studies.

The subject is scary but there seems to be hope if there is effort.

Highly recommended.

In his latest book Bill pretty much keeps politics in the background. Front and center is his childhood and young adulthood and how the things he learned back then have made him into the man he is today. His biggest piece of advice is - fear holds you back from success. Baby Boomers will enjoy this book with his humorous tales about growing up in Levittown, New York in the fifties and his escapades in Catholic School. The book is full of plain talk and wisdom directed to 'the folks'. Not as thought-provoking as 'Culture Warrior', but an entertaining read.

This is a very informative book based on Bill's life. It helps to understand where he comes from and why he thinks the way he does. I highly recommend this book.

All these left wing loons attack Bill but never notice that he is trying to look out for the working Americans. He has the American people's interest at heart. The liberal commentators do nothing more then disgrace the image of American journalism and abuse their right to free speech.

I guess you had to live the 50's, 60's and 70's to fully appreciate the references given, as well as the well-honed sense of (dry) humor... All in all, I was really looking forward to reading this book, and it did not disappoint me! A strikingly relevant window into a world that no longer exists in America, with lots of cultural references to set the stage (as it were). A great read that goes fast if you are not so biased when you pick the book up that all you see is negative. In that case, don't even bother. But for the rest of us who grew up with working-class "Depression Survivor" parents, this book is a MUST read!! Well worth the time and price!

Bob Woodward is incredible, in that he somehow is able to get the key players in one of the worst political disasters since Watergate to open up to him, and lay their faults out there for all to see.

The actions of the Bush administration are so hard to fathom , that were it not for Mr. Woodward's first person account, we would not believe it was possible, in this day and age.

Woodward's style, as shown in his previous works, makes this book a page turner, with all the details to put the reader right there, and able to appreciate all the nuances that went into the decision making processes of the war obsessed Bush administration, warts and all.

Don't be mistaken, this is not a novella, nor is it a history book. It is an unabashed detailed account of the running of a war that will go down in history as the worst foreign policy effort our nation has ever attempted.

Thank you (again), Bob Woodward

I was a college student in the mid-1970s, and Bob Woodward was my inspiration for becoming a journalist. He is all that is admirable in this profession, and I am so grateful for his dedication to painstaking fact-gathering and cogent writing and analysis.

I found this book the most gripping in his Bush Administration series. A must-read for every American who cares about truth.

And when you want some neurobiological explanations for the behaviors that Woodward so accurately details--instead of just scratching your head and puzzling over WHY WHY WHY -- consider reading Bush on the Couch Rev Ed: Inside the Mind of the President by Dr. Justin Frank.

I have read all four books in this series and many others about Bush and the Iraq war that have been published over the last few years. This is one of the best. It is beyond belief how screwed up this administration is. No one has a clue about how to win in Iraq. Bush allows no debate on the war, and clearly misunderstands the mess he is in. If you disgree with Bush, you are out the door. Bush has a sinister, almost creepy interest in body counts. The only conclusion one can reach about our president is that he is a megalomaniac.

The Final Chapter

Review Date: 2008-10-03
Bob Woodward's unrivaled access to the Bush White House, and to the President, together with his careful recall of dates and interviews, gives the reader a full and complete insight into this last chapter of the Bush presidency. And, for the first time, the author pulls the curtain aside of his reporting to reveal his judgment. And what is revealed is not flattering. Woodward writes that this is a president who is driven by his "gut", "God" and a "vision" that starts out as "victory" but over the course of the years is watered down to a "win", and finally merely to "succeed". Bush finds it easier to concentrate on "body count" rather than strategy. Woodward shows the President as perhaps the least Socratic man to hold the office although not the first president to surround himself with those who feed his ego. In that context the President appears to permit Stephen Hadley to run the war while Condoleezza Rice engages in flattery. Woodward points out that the President did not feel able to "level" with the nation and reverted to politics as usual when the war was spinning out of control before the mid-term election. The White House relied more on a retired general, General Jack Keane, who appears to have had more influence than the Joint Chiefs of Staff on promotions and policies, and, thanks to the Vice President, is permitted back-door access to the White House which undermined the morale and advice of those senior officers active in the Armed Forces. It is a book that reveals a president cocooned and protected by a small coterie of admirers. Readers and history will thank Woodward for this book, which is his fourth and best of this presidency. It paints a clear picture of a president who disregards views other than those that he wants to hear; the only people who speak truth to power in this book make a quick exit or are ignored. In the years to come, historians will find this an essential text even if it does reveal "the nation's most divisive figure".

Important inside view of the change in the President's Iraq policy

Review Date: 2008-10-05
When I read a new book by Bob Woodward, two questions normally come to my mind: (1) Why in the world would people let him interview them on the record or on background, knowing that he will report their statements in some publication? (2) Once these statements end up in print, why do so few attack him as distorting what they said or of making up quotations? Each question is fascinating in itself. And the answers may well tie together. If one wants his or her views on the record, it will happen with Woodward. And my sense is that he is normally very accurate (why else would there be so few complaints, relatively speaking?). Anyhow, here we go again--"The War Within."

This is a book about the Bush Administration's change of policy with respect to Iraq. It begins before the elections of 2006, when things were falling apart in Iraq. Even stalwart Republican Senators began to question the war and the Administration's policy regarding it. Even while the President was telling the country that progress was being made, several evaluations of policy were occurring simultaneously (and not always informing one another): the military evaluation, centered on a platoon of colonels assessing matters; Stephen Hadley's examination (he was National Security Advisor); the Iraq Study Group, led by James Baker and Lee Hamilton; a group headed by Meghan O'Sullivan. One thing that is clear from all the groups' examination of the status of the Iraq war--things were not working. Generals and Administration figures were speaking positively of the war, and these various groups were telling a far different story. In fact, the President, saying one thing in public, had come to embrace the perspective of Hadley and others. Things began to happen--Donald Rumsfeld was replaced by Robert Gates at Defense; the concept of the "surge" began to gain some degree of support.

Some of the high points: discussions of the President's own thinking (based on interviews with Woodward), inside accounts of meetings among military leaders and war critics, within the Iraq Study Group, and so on. At the end of the book, Woodward notes how this book builds on his third in a series on the Bush presidency, "State of Denial." He notes how, in that work, how the President was not openly acknowledging problems in Iraq and the deterioration of conditions on the ground. As Woodward said in the final passages in that book (Page 433 in "The War Within"): "With all Bush's upbeat talk and optimism. . .he had not told the American public the truth about what Iraq had become." He goes on to say "My reporting for this book showed that to be even more the case than I could have imagined."

His final evaluation (Page 437): "There was no deadline, no hurry [in the President's leadership on Iraq]. The president was engaged in the war rhetorically but maintained an odd detachment from its management. He never got a handle on it, and over these years of war, too often he failed to lead." Fairly bracing language from Woodward. Does he make the case? I think that that judgment should be left to each reader. Whatever one might think of Woodward and the president, this book does spark thinking about the subject.

Found the first (of two) tracks to be nearly identical to the first track of Dr. Weiss' other CD "Spiritual Progress Through Regression"... haven't yet heard the remainder of his series of CDs, but suspect the only difference is in the second track of about 20 minutes.

The CD is very relaxing, though I didn't apparently go 'deep' enough to need to be awakened, and I will listen to it again... but I'm not sure if I would have needed the other discs in the series as the second track didn't offer much different.

I listen to this CD just about every day and find the relaxation part of it wonderful. My problem is that I always fall asleep before I get to the part where Dr. Weiss starts taking you back to your younger self and then on back to your previous lives.

The CD is fine, it's me! I really enjoy the CD and have decided I need to sit up rather than lay down while meditating with this CD. I would recommend it to anyone interested in reincarnation or just meditation.

Hypnotic Regression Therapy

Brian has the perfect voice for this kind of thing. This CD is part of a series of 3. I have all 3. I love them all.

Brian is a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School. Part of his private practice is in hypnotic regression therapy. Brian begins by guiding you into a very relaxing state of consciousness, then into a protective bubble of light, so you feel "safe" enough to let yourself go. He releases your mind from the time/space limitations so you can remember "everything". You then walk down a long staircase to a beautiful peaceful garden where your body goes into a deeper relaxation state so it can heal and rejuvinate. You then see a beautiful building, ascend its steps, and meet a beautiful being (spirit guide), enter the building to receive healing there, in a special room, covered in light reflecting on you through the crystals. You can even adjust/tune the crystals to direct specific colored light beams into specific body parts. This is really quite nice and if you are already familiar with energy concepts/healing with color and crystals/and advanced visualization techniques, this CD will be especially precious to you. This is an excellent treat for your inner and outer self. As you absorb the healing rays, you can ask questions of your guide and review the possible origins of your illness/problem/symptom, etc. (so you can recognize and analyze it/them and then release them). He encourages you to let go of negative emotions of fear/anger/sadness/anxiety/tension/etc. that affect your health and encourages you to feel the positive emotions of peace/love/harmony/joy. You then say goodbye to your guide and return to the garden and rest in a very peaceful state while you kind of set the healing in place. Then you awaken gently.

I usually zonk out and my subconscious takes over.) With meditation or subliminal programming CDs, I believe that they work on the subconscious level, even if you fall asleep. Even if you think that is baloney, then at least I had a very peaceful sleep. What is it the former Bionic Woman says on the Sleep Number Mattress commercials?--"recuperative sleep" or something like that. Sleep really does provide a great opportunity for your mind to help you recognize problems and consider solutions, and also to just shut down and relax. So, if you use this CD for nothing else than a good night's sleep, that alone is worth the price of the CD, especially in these high-stress times. Think of this as a mini-vacation that you can take any time for the cost of lunch or dinner.

There is a second relaxation and meditation experience where you again go deep into la-la land, first by relaxing every cell in your body and relaxing the peacefulness in your heart and filling yourself with a healing light to rid yourself of illness and restoring every cell to its perfect state. Again you go into a protective light bubble and go into a deep state of relaxation where you are beyond the space/time limitations. You return to the garden for healing and peace and go into a journey to your past through a reflective mirror. You move through the mirror to reexperience the past or the future and look for answers for your current lifetime. You are encouraged to just enjoy the experience and not worry about if it is real or not. Of course, Brian brings you back when the experience is over, to feel well rested from your mini-vacation and very peaceful.

You will likely have no problem waking up if there is ever a need to. My experience has been that you are deep enough to completely experience this mini-trip but somehow stay available to the current world if you need to be.

I recently attended a conference where Dr. Weiss was a featured speaker, along with John Holland and Candy Diaz. All 3 of them were great. That conference was actually where I bought the 3 CDs, but they are less expensive at Amazon. I continue to be very pleased with the HayHouse authors I have found. Brian Weiss is one of several.

Not often do I reach out beyond friends, family and our doctors for help when it comes to challenges we have with our anxious child. We sought out help from teachers, doctors and from within - and this series of CD has nurtured our lives!
The CD's by Lori Lite have been the beacon of light for us on sometimes stormy nights. The relaxing bedtime CD's have transformed our evenings into pleasant, happy moments we now cherish with our child. My daughter (age 6) can't wait to put on her CD and enjoy the stories that lull her off to bed without a concern in the world - and I'm not even speaking to how empowered she is in the morning. Thank you so much for producing this series - it's been our lifesaver in many different ways!

My son is Autistic, and he loved the first CD in this series when I ordered it for him on a whim. The stories have helped teach him to let go of his anger, and by playing them at night when he's had a particularly overwhelming day I find him having more and more Good mornings. After story time I step out of the room and can hear him following the steps of what are guided meditations for children. Any of the CD's in this series are good. Some are geared a little more toward girls overall, but they all have something for all children. My son's favorite story disc is the one with the Angry Octopus. With the help of these CD's he truly understands now that he has control over his own emotions.

I purchased this CD for dual use: for my clients, and for my children. I was hopeful that it would be useful, but since I know I am quite critical of relaxation/imagery CDs given my expertise as an art therapist, psychologist, hypnotherapist who creates imagery, and conducts relaxation training, I didn't expect to be as impressed as I was. Not only did kids like it, but wanted to listen to it over and over again for entertainment. Even siblings who were not the intended audience enjoyed and requested it. My kids liked the stories loved the details and expressiveness of the characters. I found the voice tone good, and the content of the metaphors remarkably cohesive. Its now a staple in our car as well as a recommended resource.

Awesome. Brian has the perfect voice for this kind of thing anyway. The first time I did this one, I went back to where I was floating in the womb. That might sound like BS, but it was my experience and was extremely peaceful. I carried that peace all the next day. This CD is part of a series of 3. I have all 3. I love them all and will be doing reviews on the other two as soon as I get a chance.

Brian is a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School. Part of his private practice is in hypnotic regression therapy. The back of the CD cover states that this CD takes you to a childhood experience, then to in utero memories, then through a doorway to a previous lifetime. I have tried it several times and my conscious mind has not gone past the in utero experience yet. (I zonk out and my subconscious takes over.) With meditation or subliminal programming CDs, I believe that they work on the subconscious level, even if you fall asleep. Even if you think that is baloney, then not only did I have a very peaceful sleep, but felt very peaceful the next day. Given my current stress level at work, that is quite an accomplishment.

My 15-year old granddaughter wanted to try this out, so I set my little Crystal (born 1993) up with my Bose earphones and this CD. I closed the bedroom door, but kept checking on her. I observed the same intense peace all over her face that I experienced. I also observed that she was experiencing something because of the occassional twitching and eye movement. When we talked, she also remembered only to the floating in the womb experience.

Update August 2008: Granddaughter is still loving this CD. Looks like I am going to have to get her her own copy, cause she ain't gettin' mine to take home.

In retrospective I may be doing something wrong, like trying the material when I am under stress.
Something comes from it though, relaxation.

I recomend the material if you are looking for peace and relaxation.

This CD contains two sessions and uses music and ambient ocean sounds which ebb and flow appropriately under his voice. The total runtime is about 60 minutes. Remember that CD's like this are generic sessions. Dr. Weiss can get too wordy at times and/or you may find that you have gone ahead of him and just want him to keep quiet. Your experience needs to be self paced. Use a player with a remote and keep one finger on the pause button. Here is a description of program 1 and some of my reactions to it.

Both programs start with a relaxation and healing exercise. He then says, let your mind journey back in time and go deeper to a count of 10. He tells you to go down a beautiful staircase and again does another count. My mind leads me to a peaceful darkness because of the emphasis on the words "down" and "deeper", but he then describes a garden which is beautiful and light-filled and I have to pause the tape to reorient.

The garden is there to return to if anything upsets you while you do the regressions. He then asks you to go back to a happy moment in childhood. If your childhood was generally painful, I suggest that you pick something ahead of time. I found a dim memory of feeding a baby deer at a roadside park to use here.

Next he goes back to the womb and asks why you picked your parents. Pause the CD and see what comes. He says quite a few things in quick succession here, too much to maintain the previous level of serenity.

Next he asks, "How were you received into the physical world?" In response I had an unusually vivid experience. The staff who delivered me spoke little and seemed coldly efficient. I felt as if no one could relate to me and I was totally on my own. After the session I thought about this and remembered that my mother had been a much feared OB/GYN supervisor at the hospital where I was born. I'm sure they were aware of being judged and watched. This was the most important discovery I had while using this CD. I remembered having these same feelings and situations repeat often in childhood. I recently learned that research indicates that children with traumatic births can suffer numerous psychological issues. I would encourage you to take this part seriously and ask yourself if the treatment you recieved mirrors any later personality traits.

He then asks you to go through a door into your past lives or other dimensions. He describes going through the door in five steps. You may find that your vision runs well ahead of his dialog on this suggestion and need to pause again. He goes through several incarnations. I flashed on two historical settings that were quite detailed. A psychic once told me that I had held powerful governmental positions in several lifetimes (probably why I have no faith in politics now!). In both regression images I was man, one a U.S Governor from the 16 or 17 hundreds and the other a red coated British officer on a horse. Both were fleeting images of historically accurate outfits that I would not have imagined on my own.

He then describes meeting an angel and discussing how to let go of all your problems and negative feelings. The angel gives you a string of pearls, each representing a lifetime. You are told to look at each and see the life represented. The angel then shows you a screen that can broadcast images of your lives. The idea here is to give you several ways to connect with images but the dialog moves very fast and I didn't find it as useful as the earlier exercise. He ends with a meditation on our oneness with the earth that I found a bit too wordy for a meditation. He then wakes you up to a count of 10

The setting for program 2 reminded me a great deal of Jung's near death experience in which he met with a committee who was there to help him process his earthly existence. If you research "Jung and near death" you can find out more about that.

No wonder this is a classic. It is a good reminder of all the things you inherently know, but forget as a normal part of daily life. Immediately upon starting to read it, the way I was dealing with people changed - and business improved quickly! Obviously, a book that should be read over and over. One of the best!

Abraham teaches artists to honor their inspirations

The teachings of Abraham are easy to understand on these CDs. Abraham has heart to heart conversations with real people, asking questions like you might have on topics that include how to help bored kids, addictions, money, breaking the rules of 'fine art' to honor inspiration, and how to improve relationships. Abraham uses several ways to get the point across that we have the right to be happy. We have an obligation to express our artistic creativity as we experience it. Also, that we need to learn to live a happy life where we are, learn more about how to be happy, and that we deserve happiness.

The material is awesome; life-affirming; life-transformative!
The 11 CDs are labeled 4 different ways - very confusing after downloading to my I-Pod. Please label consistently in cyberspace.
Thanks!

I have most of the Abraham CD Programs but this is by far the best. As always, the concepts and processes that are presented are crystal clear. This is a program that I will return to for the rest of my life. Remember, as Abraham says "You never get it done". In this world of many contrasts there are always new desires being born. How exciting!

I bought the whole set and found the recordings with the Spirits of great value, easy to listen and put into practice. However, I found it difficult listenting to the set where Jerry Hicks reads the book, as he plows through the material. I found I didn't have enough time in my brain to process what he was reading. All in all I think everyone should give these messages serious thought and consideration to become a better person and really attract what we want in our lives. It is hard work, but the recording help by being able to listen over and over and over again.

This Mater Course CD Program contains the same information as the Master Course DVD program. It is less expensive and just as informative. The program is great for those already familiar with the teachings of Abraham.

I highly recommend this history series for kids of a wide age range. 5-13ish. The kids just don't get this kind of exposure to the world and its history in traditional Public Schools anymore. You will really want to get the book to go with this if really get into it. (to create a time line and see maps and so on...)
We Love this!

I have the Story of the World book and workbook, and I thought having it on CD might be nice for the car. I have very much enjoyed the smooth voice of Jim Weiss in several other story cds I have by him. So it made sense to try this one.
Sadly, Jim sounds rushed in this cd. I think that kids will just space out much of what he says, because there are so many facts packed in at such a fast pace. I wish he would have taken his time, and ambled through history at a leisurely pace rather than the slightly tense and frenzied reading that he has done here. I felt compelled to take rushed notes, and stop and replay - not appropriate for this age!

After reading all the reviews about SOTW I was hesitant to buy it. We are a very conservative, Christian, homeschooling family and some of the reviews made me wonder if this would be the best choice for our family. I decided to get the book form of Mystery of History and the audiobook of SOTW to use as a supplement. I haven't opened our Mystery of History yet (though I will soon...) but we finished the whole set of CD's for volume one of SOTW and will start volume 2 tomorrow. We listen to it in the car as we travel. My 7 and 8-year olds beg to hear more history every time we get in the car. My 4 and 5-year olds get a lot out of it as well.

I think listening to someone else read the book makes it more fun for all of us. It helps bring the stories to life. We have all learned so much about ancient history and I'm so grateful. Sure, we've learned a lot of ancient myths and about many of the Greek gods and all, but that is all a part of the history of the various civilizations, and we don't have any trouble explaining to our children what is true and what is make-believe or just plain false.

I would highly recommend this set to any family that wants to increase their knowledge of ancient history.
