I bought this for my daughter at 18 mos based on the reviews. She loves books. This was an instant favorite. From the moment she picks it up she is smiling in anticipation of what is to come. She is now turning 2 this month and still it is her favorite book. She likes to fill in the blank for you when you read it to her. Peek-a...WHO, Peek-a...ZOO!, Peek-a...CHOO-CHOO! etc. This is really a cute book with great illustrations that my daughter likes to point to and discuss. It flows really well and the ending is just perfect, she bursts into laughter EVERY time. Well worth the money, you have to get this for your little one.

Excellent visual and creates anticipation for my child!!!

My grandfather bought this book for my 13 month old and my son absolutely loves it. I read it 5-10 times every chance he can get it on my lap. He gets really excited the closer I get to the back page. He loves seeing himself and then freaks out with joy! BUY THIS book... they love the holes in the pages, the colors and the repetition of the story.

Peek-A Who is a favorite of my three your old granddaughter (we made a Dutch translation). It is the joy of understanding what is on the next page. The owl and the mirror she likes best.

My 13 month old loves this book. It actually inspired her fifth word! We were reading the book and as I was about to say "Peek-A... Moo", I heard this tiny "eek-a" from my daughter. I turned the page for Peek-a-Boo, and before I could say anything, she did it again - "eek-a". It's repetitious so I think it taught her to say the word. Now she loves to say "eek-a" before I turn the page. I don't know that you can find "eek-a" in a Webster's, but I'll take it!

I read this to my hyper-active 3 year old daughter. The repetition of the rhythm helps calm her down before going to bed as if hypnotizing. If that sounds a bit weird-out, don't worry, it doesn't really hypnotize your kid but I'm sure many of you parents might think that might a good idea at around bed-time.

We bought this book for my 3y.o. son a couple of days ago and he loves it. Though it is very simple compared to what we usually read (he's a big Seuss fan), the pictures are colorful and very creative, and it's a great introduction to animals and colors. Plus, because of it's simple lines and rhymes, it's easy for him to remember and he likes to "read it" himself... as he is interested in "reading" stories to us this is a great experience (with his favorite Seuss books such as The cat in the Hat this is not so easy). I was a bit doubtful about buying this book because he is used to more complex stories, but I'm happy to say that it was a great buy! :-)

I bought this when my son was only a year. I had it on the shelf for a few years without much use. He picked it up one day, and we read it together when he was 3. He wanted me to read it again. That was all he needed, he started to read it back to me.. and to his brother.. and to anyone who would listen. He even recites it when the book is far away. What an impact it has had. A good buy, but wait until they are a bit older than 1. ;)

We got this book from the library and my son loves it. We own The Mixed-up Chameleon book, but my son isn't as into that one, maybe it's for kids who are a bit older, as my son isn't quite 2. However, this book seems to be perfect for him, he loves to put his fingers in the holes the catapiller ate into everything. So, I'd say this might be the best Eric Carle book for the young toddlers, esp. since it's not a long story.

The worlds are flowy.. the pictures are perfect and it keeps him interested from the first page to the last. A toddlers bookshelf is incomplete without this book!

Silly, disjointed text, average illustrations

Review Date: 2008-07-27
I got the book for my 4 yr old and 2 yr old - but neither of them like it much. My husband and I don't like reading it either, and here's why:

The text is quite disjoint, like bits and pieces of other fairy tales and nursery rhymes put together. It seems like the author has just put down random things together - there's no rhyme (literally!) or reason for any of the pages. It does not flow lyrically.

The only interesting aspect is the black and white illustrations on some of the pages. This offers a striking contrast to the color illustrations. However, the whole book has not been put together well, and the quality of illustrations is just so-so. So the impact of the b&w is also pointless.

Compared to other wonderful books like the "Hungry Caterpillar" or "Ten Little Lady Bugs" or "The Firefly's First Flight" which we all really love, this book definitely is not worth having in the childrens' bookshelf.

I seem to be among the minority in disliking this book on Amazon - perhaps I am not seeing something that others are.. But hey! this is truly my opinion!

I always purchase these little board books for new parents who generally get all kinds of baby clothes etc. for showers but rarely get books to start a baby libary. You just can't go wrong with any of the books by Sandra Boynton, they beg to be read aloud!

My 2-year-old daughter has had this book since she was 6 months old when Santa gave it to her in her stocking. She still LOVES it! The pages and flaps are a bit worn, so I'm buying another copy. It was the perfect size for her to hold when she was younger, she loved it when we made the animal sounds, and now she sits and reads it aloud. Every baby should have one!

He is 14 months old right now, and he will pick this out of all the other books and carry it all around the house with him opening up the little flaps and laughing. He will give it to me to read to him, and it actually keeps his attention!

I got this for my son almost 2 months ago and it's one of his favorites. He's 10 months old now. It's a very small book but the pages are thick cardboard and the flaps are cardboard too which I love because they are a lot harder to destroy than flimsy paper ones! It has a lot of pages that are illustrated very well. I love it.

My 14-month old grandson loved this book. Maybe it's because it's usually read in a "sing-song" way but he had us read it to him over and over. He actually sat still while it was being read and that doesn't always happen!!! I would recommend it for young children. I read it to my own children. It will be around for a long time.

I love this story. I find myself smiling and getting that warm, fuzzy feeling as the father rabbit and son exchange conversation about how much they love each other, each one topping the other's love.

This is one of the first books that I bought for my son because it tells of the boundless love that a parent has for their children. Truly, one of the sweetest children's books ever written.

I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Highly recommend.

Adorable story and illustrations. A must have for any nursery. But very young children will lose interest in it pretty fast because of the amount of text on each page and the fact that the pictures are pretty much the same on every page, and not brightly colored and bold. So not a BABY book. But still, who can resist the title alone??? Mom loves it even if baby doesn't yet.

Our son really loved Karen's "Toes, Ears and Nose" and although I was disappointed with the text in some of the manners books she wrote, I thought I would give this a try. This was the second potty book we bought-the first was "The Potty Book for Boys" which is cute and really enjoyable for our son. I was extemely shocked when we read this and, low and behold- the words in this book are almost exactly like the other book! This was confusing for our son and difficult to explain why this was almost the same. I will never buy one of her books again. Buy the other potty book and you will not be disappointed.

A great potty training book.

I love the pictures in this book. They are clear and appealing to the toddler. The bad rhythm and rhyming structure, though, is jarring. In addition, the book focuses on failure a lot more than success. The baby keeps trying to go on the potty and things just don't work out for him. He finally does in the end, but I get the sense that it makes the process seem a little scary.

Let me first mention that I am a huge fan of Karen Katz's books. However, this book was a big disappointment. Instead of teaching the child how to use the potty, the story contradicts using the potty. The child in the book spends most of the time rejecting the potty. This book basically confused my child and I stop reading it. The illustrations are great, but the story indicates that this particular child is not ready to use the potty. The lack of encouragement and motivation of potty training in this story is not great at all.
