While not written by Seuss, the prose is jaunty and fun. However, the book is TINY! It's definitely a "gift book" size and not something you'll be able to pick up and read to your vision-impaired newborn. I'll buy Cat in the Hat next time.
Great pregnancy gift!

Oh, Baby the Places You'll Go makes a great gift for expectant mothers and fathers. The forward to the books explains how reading to babies in utero affects them. The story takes bits and pieces of Dr. Seuss favorites and combines them to create an adorable story about what lies ahead for the new baby and the anticipation that parents are feeling. It might even bring a tear to your eye!

Dear Baby,
Me wife got this book from a friend who's name was Brook.
Read it and breed it and enjoy she said while she cooked; So we got really busy one-sy, two-sy, and three-sy all in one nightsy we did.
You will be bornsy about nine monthsy after we sealed the deedsy, and daddy slept wellski after we mades they I did.
I shall read this book to an embryo in utero you see, and maybe I'll do it while's eating for free. Your brain will be insane with all the verbage you'll hear. Soon you'll bounce while I bald and tell bad jokes in your ear. Those wrinkles I receive you'll give me for free. One-ski, Two-ski, I see more-ski before I forty, OH DEAR. My dad-ski warned me of all the trouble you'll cause. He said, "You'll get a child who will grey and shave you like me." I said, "A, I'm not grey, but I occasionally take a rolaids before I take my wife for a jump in the Hay, Hay Hay."
In the end the book claims you'll be smarter and a better farter if I read to you this day. I'll do it I say, just keep you little pee pee at bay, and promise not to spray....
Bottom Line: Great little book. Cute read it to your child in utero and watch the brain grow. I had to use the word embryo with utero, but your childs not an embryo.

I purchased this to give to my soon to be daughter-in-law as a fun item to include in a package I was sending her. I always liked the original version of this Dr. Seuss book and was excited about this one.
It is a very cute book and I love the story. I think the size of it makes it easy for you to hang onto and pass on. Definitely pick one up for the Dr. Seuss lover to start their baby out early.

My Son is 2.5 yrs old and loved this book. He finished it in less than a months time. Yes, they weren't very challenging mazes, but kept the attention of my child for 10 minutes everyday. He liked it so much that everyday he would ask for it himself. I only wish they came in spiral bound or something like similar, so that I need not hold the book for him while he is working.

This is a great product, but geared to younger children as their first introduction to mazes. My 4 yr old son breezed through this book in one sitting. He may not have gotten them all perfect, but it wasn't much of a challenge at 4.

A friend just bought this book for my son. It is the first book he has ever brought over to me to read. I read the quiet parts in a whisper and then read the loud parts...well, loud. He loves it. He also wants to go get my shoes when I read "Mommy's shoes are LOUD." It is pretty funny. Great book! Also would recommend Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

This is a 16 page board book with seven stories in it. Two of the pages are the table of contents.
The stories are, of course, short. In fact, they are "short short", as advertized!
If your kid has moved past board books and is now well into the world of long books like Green Eggs and Ham or, dare I say it, War and Peace, this one might be a little *too* short short for him or her.
If your kid is in the target age for these books, baby or toddler, then it should be just long enough to hold his or her attention until beddybye.
The stories are typically funny, in Boynton's style. We especially like "I'm Not Tired" around here, and the silly lullaby at the end!

Boynton's books are generally bouncy, sing-song, silly books. My kids and I love them! This book is a short compilation of stories that seem to have a song to them that the reader doesn't understand. It would be better as a music cd/book set because the stories by themselves aren't that interesting, cute or funny. Wish I hadn't bought it. I recommend Boynton's "Philadelphia Chickens" music cd & book set over this book.

Boynton books have been really hit or miss with us. This is one of the better ones.
My daughter enjoys having it read to her, and we can tolerate reading it. She enjoys the rhyming and the hippo. The thought that the book was sending some kind of negative message never crossed my mind before reading some of the reviews here.

Poor li'l armadillo. *sniff*
There isn't a moral message in this story. A hippo sulks while her friends have fun without her (I always think of the hippo as a girl, anyway) - probably not even noticing that she's there.
This is great for hamming it up, with lots of fake sobs as the story goes on.
Then she is given her metaphorical engraved invitation and is delighted to join in. And now the armadillo is on the sidelines, probably to have his own (armadillo always seemed like a guy to me) happy ending later.
Simple, short story for short kids.

I love Sandra Boynton books. We have many and I want the rest but I just don't care for this book. Either I totally missed the point or she's sending the wrong message here. The hippo is left out of fun things time and time again then when the gang finally thinks to invite the hippo he only hesitates for a moment then runs to join the gang. The gang are inconsiderate fake friends. The hippo does not need fake friends and I will not encourage my child to join other kids that usually leave him out.

We started reading this book at 5 months. By 8 mos my son would point to familiar objects like the spoon with food on it. It is long enough to have substance, but short enough to hold the attention of the youngest reader. Minimal words, mostly drawn pictures. My son is a year now and still likes it; this one features common phrases like "Hold still," and "Go to sleep!"

We read these books when my son was about 18 months. He was resisting diaper changes and nap time. After reading this books he would say, "Jeffrey PU" and let me change him. The end of the book shows the mom cuddling with David with David's eyes closed. We talked about how he was happy and sleeping. We would read it at bed time and nap time and my son would be okay going in his crib with no fuss after reading it. Now my son is 2 1/2 and David has come to the rescue again. In "David goes to school" there is a page where David needs to go to the bathroom. This simple book with wild illustrations helped my son pee in the potty for the first time. Super. These books are great!

This is a great way to make reading fun for students and can be used in the classroom with reading groups/whole group or at home with different family members reading different parts, a great way to practice reading and spend time together. Readers of all ages will get a kick out of reading these very adorable plays.

I took this book to the beach for the kids to have something to do if the weather turned bad, it did, and the whole family loved it. The kids got to be creative and work together to put on a play for the rest of the family. Even my [...] year old got to play a part (with my help) and because they are familiar kid fairy tales, they already knew how they wanted to act out their character.

we couldn't be happier with "once upon a potty" .. we received it, along with cotton trainers, when our girl was 22 months old ... she had already been exhibiting all the classic ready-for-pottying cues, with regular morning & after nap pee-pee-ing, so the addition of prudence's story was the icing on the cake that gave her the confidence to really go full-time for the potty.
it's a confidence booster, and we adore it ( though we did change the potty language to suit our family : no biggie! ) and it will be a treasured selection in her library forever.
alona, thank you for writing a smart book for smart kids.

I thought the book would be a bit long for my daughter's attention span but she actually loves it. It has great step by step explanations, its simply & the illustrations are colorful enough to keep her engaged. The picture of the little girl is anatomically correct (in a benign sense of course) & the time it takes to read the book fills the time she needs to sit long enough to be successful.
My daughter loves the book & so do I!

The pictures are cute but what is the point if the potty doesnt look anything like one, it is a pot with a handle! I have been reading it to my 21 month old daughter and I skip a lot of the pages. Might be ok for older kids but I am not very impressed with this book.

What a wonderful story! The rhyming text is a pleasure to read, and the book progresses from day to night, making it a perfect bedtime story. I've read it so many times to my five year old twins that we now know it by heart. Get it!!!

My son loves to read books, but this one does not keep his attention. He likes Goodnight Moon, the Boyton Books, and others, but this doesn't keep his interest. I do like that it shows various animals and their noises.

This is one of my favorite books to read to my son. The prose is beautiful, concise, and profound. It's a very subtle book and takes some quiet time to truly appreciate it. The Big Red Barn is a picture of utopia; animals coexisting in peace, playing throughout the day, and then resting at night.

I was given this book as a gift just after my son was born. He is now coming up to three months and this is a book I just love to read to him. I am an animal lover myself and so I like the fact it is based around animals. I think the pictures are great and he is already taking a good look at them. The next step for me will be taking him to see the animals in person but until that happens we will live on the farm through this book. I have found it very pleasant to read as it has a basic rhythm to it, which means I don't mind repeating it which I am sure will help him with his development. I would recommend this book to many!!

I was looking for something for my daughter's first birthday. These cards are great - durable, colorful and fun. Each one has something textured for them to touch and feel. I'll definitely be purchasing another volume.

We've used these cards with my 18 month old grandchildren since they were about a year old and they love them. We have "flash card time" and it amazes me every time how much they have learned with these cards. Very sturdy cards, great pictures, and they love the touch and feel aspect of it.

We got these for our son when he was about 9mths. He is now 20mths old and he still plays with them. We have two other sets. The cards are very sturdy and hold up to a lot.

Once again, I have purchased a product without holding it in my hands first. I need to learn to shop in person, and give up the convenience of online stores. These cards are too flimsy for the age group they are targeted for, and I can see they will not last long in this home. They are an excellent idea, but not thought out thoroughly as they should be before being put into production. The colors are vibrant, but there aren't enough included in the set. They fold in half very easily. The "touch and feel" portion of many of the cards are lousy, like they came up with a few good ones and used "filler" on the rest of the cards. They aren't textured, but just colored differently in the "texture" slot. Close, but not good enough.

And I guess you have to be a Seuss fan, because there are a lot of references to Seuss characters, but I loved that. Thanks for a great book!
