Max's Toys is another wonderful little Max book for children and adults. They capture a young child's world with humor and empathy. As Max asserts his "needs," Ruby perceives them as "wants" much like parents. I am a child/family therapist and I use the Max and Ruby books frequently.

The same books I read as a child. These are the classics, so of course they are old fashioned! My 2 1/2 year old loves them and asks us to read them every night. I think she loves most when we tell her these were Mommy and Daddy's favourite books when we were little. Set includes a blank book to write your own story as well.

Like others, my son found it really aggravating trying the bunny ears method of tying. It's the complete inability of kids to get one loop made, hold it, and then get the other loop made while still holding the first one! Ergh.

We purchased this book because our daughter is great at learning rhymes and we thought it would help her learn to tie her shoe. We were dissappointed that it teaches the "rabbit ears" knot, but even more dissappointed to find two of the illustrations out of sequence. That type of error make learning very difficult.

I ordered this book after I read about the good reviews. But I am disappointed. I do not really care what kind of methods (one or two loops) the book shows as long as my son can tie his shoes. But the pictures are really confusing for a 3.5 years old. The max he can do is to put the red lace over the yellow lace and tie the first knot. When it comes to the loops, he is totally lost. Hopefully it will work for an older kid. As for the wordings in the book, which the reader supposed to memorize and be able to tie his shoes later on, are not even rhyme.

This book helped my son (5) understand the concept of tieing laces. The two different colored laces in the book are geneous. We put this idea on a pair of his shoes and it helps him tie a bow. I highly recommend trying it for your kids. My younger son is interested and exploring the book as well.

I teach remedial 3,4,5 grade math. Following the format of the other grade level editions, this provides a varied daily parctice and a short graphing of results at the end of the week. I use it as a "Do NOw" every beginning of math class to help keep skills fresh. It is appropriately layed out, appropriate to the grade level curriculum and a good, easy to use format that keeps the children on their toes!

I'm a firm believer of practice early on math. It will build kid's interest and confidence for the long run. This book is invaluable. It breaks grade 3 math into small pieces and let your child do a little every day. My daughter learned a lot from this book. She often asks further questions and thinks a lot more. It helped her do well in math. In the Beestar online math contest (a nice web site http://www.beestar.org), she often wins honor mentions. Very good math supplement.

As a homeschooling mom, the search for texts is difficult! This is not our main math text, but an easy way to keep my child up to speed in many different areas of math. For example, if we are studying geometry, he will still get daily practice in addition and subtraction... We use this book daily. I would recommend it as a supplement for any math program.

Reading this book word for word to my 3 year old daughter would not have worked. We read the big question at the top of each page and answer the question ourselves using the pictures. I slip in different things from the text each time and she loves it. It has made her very excited about a event she had been growling about untill we started reading this book. She has even started "reading" it to her stuffed animals. I would suggest this book to anyone with a child, of any age who is expecting. Read it once yourself and you can decide how best to "read" it with your child.

Many of the items in the book we have already explained to her on the day the baby came home from the hospital. The stories there are also too long for the toddlers attention.

We love this book. My daughter loves every Karen Katz book that I have read to her. After reading this book many times, one time when a family friend asked my daughter for her favorite stuffed animal lamb, my 18 month old daughter handed our friend a different stuffed animal lamb that was not her favorite. I love that it gives a solution to finding a way to share something without giving it up or taking away from the fun of it.

My 17-month old was very familiar with the word "MINE" so I bought this book to help us introduce the concept of "Sharing" with her. It worked great. She loved the pictures and lifting the flaps and I have caught her "reading" this one on her own later. She definitely understands sharing now and this book really helped us show her how much happier everyone is when you share. Definitely worth the price. The pages are a nice quality, too, that won't easily rip.
I wish this had smaller flaps like some of her other books, though. It's more fun for the baby to lift the small flap to reveal a surprise instead of lifting the whole page the way this one is set up. The baby doesn't understand how to put the page back down before turning the page, so the whole book ends up with the pages sticking out when you are done and it gets a little confusing. That's the only downside.

This book is okay. I was a bit disappointed in that it's really not about sharing. On each page, the child doesn't want to share the toy they're playing with. On the reveal page, the child "shares" by giving the other child a different toy to play with, or something similar to that effect. It would have been nicer, to see the child actually giving the same toy to the other child to "take turns" or sincerely "share".
This is NOT sharing.

Look, I really like this author and own and read a ton of her books to my kids, but this one just really rubs me the wrong way.
My main problem is that the book is called "I Can Share" and then what follows are several examples of kids doing things that are anything but sharing.
For example,
One girl asks, "Can I play with your doll?"
The other girl replies..."No...but you can play with this other Doll."
Ok, That is NOT sharing. Its appeasement. None of the examples are sharing. They are keeping what you have and appeasing the person asking you for something by giving them something else.
Now, ironically, I tend to believe that "sharing" is highly over-rated. We try to teach kids to "share" their toys with other kids, when in fact, we as adults rarely share our toys with our friends.
However, what I don't want to do is teach my kids that words have bendable meanings...or that this is what sharing means.
The verb use of the word share is as follows:
1. to divide and distribute in shares; apportion.
2. to use, participate in, enjoy, receive, etc., jointly: The two chemists shared the Nobel prize.
None of the actions in this book are remotely close to that definition.
This book should be titled, "I Can Mollify." or even better "How to Spin Your Friends Into Appeasement When They Want Something You Got."

I was very pleased that I remembered about the DLR (Daily Language Review) book from my time as a sub. My schedule at my new school is a little crazy, and the morning DLR will fill up the extra few minutes each morning perfectly. It is perfectly appropriate for the grade level, and I am anticipating a fabulous year of growth thanks to the Daily Language Review book!

I am homeschooling my 4th graders and wanted something language/writing related that I could do quick reviews and enable me (the teacher) to find areas that need reviewing. It takes only ten minutes or so to complete the five problems each day. It's a quick easy assessment for me and a great review for the kids. The book has problems for everyday of the week and a place the kids keep record of their progress. Some of it is easy and when it's not mini lessons are born!!! I believe in DOL!

Pages are easy to copy or to make overheads. Answer key is available right after each selection, which is nicer than searching in the back of the book. It touches upon all Language arts skills in a nice format. I highly recommend this book!

My three year old has even picked it up to read it, so I think it has the potential to be a favorite for a while. It is a great book to read to a small one, too, very sweet.

This is a great little book. I read a review of it in a baby magazine and decided to buy it. I'm glad that I did because my 3 1/2 month old loves it. It has a little mirror (of surprizingly good reflective quality) in the back so the baby can see her own eyes (or yours, depending on the creativity of the angle) reflected back at her and imposed in the figures of the animals. The colors are wonderful; my babe likes the pages with the writing as much as the mirror images. I think her appreciation for this book will only grow as she gets older. This is a good buy for your own child or for a gift.

It is easy for her to hold and open and she loves looking at herself throughout the book. An added bonus~ I have read it to her every day since we bought the first copy and have yet to get tired of it.

Hardly any words, so kids of all ages can read the story to adults, and everyone can guffaw at this outrageous story of a dog-nanny.
Entertaining for adults - not sure about children...

I saw this book at a friend's house and couldn't believe the story of a dog left alone to take care of the baby while the mother goes out. It's quite funny - but, I wonder what a kid would make of it!
Excellent parenting choices

I found this book to be an excellent guide for child rearing. It affirmed by choice as a parent to leave my toddler in the ward of a large canine for hours at a time. It offered a further benefit of teaching my child how to leave his crib so that he would not get too bored while I am at work for the day. Carl is indeed a good dog and this book will make you a good parent, too.
We LOVE Carl!

I wasn't so sure about this book but my 4 year old ADORES it. She laughs out loud every single time we "read" it. I say "read" because there are only about 2 sentences in the whole book but we have a great time discussing all the pictures. We have the hard back board book which has held up extremely well and the pictures are very clear and beautiful. She goes to sleep with it every night and totally "gets" that it is a silly story (i.e. people do not leave their babies with the dog in charge!!) For the joy it has brought my children I give this book with its beautiful illustrations a 5 star review. I had no idea there were other Carl books but will likely pick some of those up too.
Charming and nicely illustrated

Great books with just a few words at the beginning, then even little ones who can't read yet can help you tell the story by looking at the illustrations. Highly recommended for animal lovers.
