This book is not what I'm used to from the Berenstain Bears paperback books: lessons on growing up from Brother and Sister. It is, however, very good for teaching my 15 month old about inside, outside, upside down, right side up. She enjoys the book, but not as much as many of her other books that have more things going on.

We really like this

This is one of the earlier Berenstain Bear books, and it shows. Ignore the cover, the bears on the *inside* of this book are less stylized and cutesy than the bears in the newer books, and the story is an early reader instead of a longer read-aloud.

It's a cute little story about a cub and his misadventures in a box. The illustrations make it perfect :)

There are only a few words per page, so this one is perfect both for early readers and for little-little ones learning to talk - the book focuses on prepositions, as you might guess from the title.

This delightful classic makes a great first book for the child who is ready to read to him/herself. Its rhythmic rhymes and colorful pictures provide plenty to keep the young reader from losing interest from beginning to end. Its also an excellent book to read to very young children. You may hear them reciting the catchy rhymes to themselves. This is a book well worth buying!

This is one my son's favorite books. We started reading it to him when he was about six months old. Now, he's two years old and still absolutely loves it - when we read to him and when he "reads" to us.

Like all Berenstain's beginning books, this book is a wonderful vocabulary lesson. Our son has clearly expressed his understanding of "inside," "outside," "upside down," etc. for the last six months. When our friends and family comment on his impressive comprehension we always say, "It's thanks to the Berenstains."

Our son's 20 year old copy is still in his "things to save box". His father was a professional Firefighter during his baby hood so, naturally, we had lot's of "Firefighter/Firehouse" things for our son. This book he loved the most. So, we kept it for him. Now, his daughter has her own copy to enjoy! I was especially pleased to see that this was still available!!! Thank GOD for Golden Books! They're timeless!

A must have for little boys!

This is a great book! My son (16 months) has been interested in books for just a short time, & it started with this one! The pictures are very colorful & rich, it's a quick read, and it has a couple of puppies in it--a plus for my little guy who only says a few words but can say puppy. I've purchased it for a friend's 2 year old son, & he reads it at least twice a day.

Great Book!!!

My son's favorite book. Every page has so much detail, he is enthralled and loves to read/look over and over again. A nice change of pace from today's children's books which are much more simple in their design. P.S.--Note that the fire chief looks like Tom Dewey (as in "Dewey defeats Truman")!

An excellent book for the fireman lover in your house!

What a darling book this is! It's really realistic, shows the firemen actually fighting a fire. It's nice to see that because quite frankly, you don't really see that is most fireman books. I keep saying fireman instead of firefighter, because this book was written before there were women on the force and thus, show all men in the story. It's great though, seeing the old firetrucks and the dalmation. The book was written in 1950 and just has the most beautiful illustrations of the firemen and all that red! It shows the fire chief's truck, the hose car (truck) and the hook-and-ladder truck with the firemen hanging on for dear life alongside. The driver steers in the back as well which makes for tons of conversation with my little one. It actually shows the firemen hooking the hoses up to the fire hydrant, eliminating the confusion that all the water comes from the truck. I've had to explain that sometimes when there isn't a hookup, they bring a tanker truck with water. The firemen are actually using their axes to put out the fire in the antique store and are rescuing items as well with the net. However, our favorite part of the book is the very last page which says, "Hurray for the brave firemen!" I think that says it all.

This book is a treasure of ideas for new parents or childcare providers. If you don't remember the words to all those nursery rhymes, forgotten everything that can be done with a pasta box, or need fresh games to liven up a stale routine, then this book is for you.

Although I've pulled a handful or original ideas from this book, overall it's nothing I didn't know already. It literally lists the words to the songs "Mary Had A Little Land" and "Old McDonald Had A Farm". I have pulled some fun art projects out of this book, but I wouldn't recommend spending money on it.

I have to agree with some other reviews, that it wasn't all that creative. I was hoping for more inventive ways to have fun with my toddler, but was sadly disappointed. Thankfully I also got the Toddler Busy Book, which was WAY more helpful and I use that ALL the time.

I love the format of this book! There is a word problem for each day of the week -- Monday through Thursday are half-sheets, and Friday is a whole sheet. I use this book for my morning work/opening -- I have each day's problem waiting for the students on their desks, and it's the first thing they do in the morning. It's a fantastic review and use of basic skills, especially since our math curriculum has strayed away from using ANY of the basics this year. I find it to be a great supplement!

P.S. I also have Daily Paragraph Editing, and it serves a similar function to our writing curriculum! *Ü*

I've been looking for a fun book to give my 3-year-old words to express her feelings. It doesn't always describe feelings, but it does give her more words to use. Sandra Boynton books are always fun and she's always liked them.

I bought this for my 3 year old son and he loves it, as do my other kids, 5 and 2. The kids love the silly animals doing silly things, Sandra Boynton's trademark. There is an animal and an adjective beginning with each letter. I like that there are negative emotions sprinkled in-- ever get sick of kid's media being either all sweetness and light or all obnoxious backtalk, with no real life anywhere? My kids sit and discuss why the Anteater might be Angry (someone ate all the ants?) or why the Opossum is Outraged (the Playful Pig on the facing page is making fun of him!), which has been so interesting to listen to! This is a very cute, interesting, not ordinary alphabet book that is engaging for many ages.

Hurray for this book

This ranks right up there with the best of Boynton's childrens' books. (I don't like them all and I don't give many "5"s).

This is just such a fresh fun approach to the alphabet and it uses the best of her whimsical humor. So many alphabet books out there just use one noun for each letter but breaking from tradition she uses adjectives (gasp!) and nouns. She also doesn't use unicorn or umbrella for "U". Great for learning. Great for fun. Worth every penny.

I'm glad it became available again.

It took me a while to warm to Maisy -- both the drawings and the language are incredibly simple -- but every kid I know just loves these books. I got this as part of a group of toys and books to prepare my son for his 2-year check-up, and while it may not be the most "informative," per se, it is certainly the one he likes best.

Each page allows him to place Cheerios on pictures and encourages him to count how many he uses or name what he's using it for. The only problem I now have is how do I get him to stop eating so many Cheerios??? ;)

This story is cute - My daugher at age 4 at the time was in preschool and daily and I mean daily the boys would get this book prior to the girls getting it so it was a game every day to see who could obtain this book first...they never fought over any book but this one and the library had lots of books to choose from....anyways the girls and boys were fighting and pulling on the book one day that the book got ripped and the teachers had - really had enough of that book at that point and threw it away to teach the children a hard lesson in life.....meanwhile I had no idea as to what the teachers had done except for the fact that my daughter and her best friend came home crying that the book with the elephant and the peanuts got thrown out and why? the full explanation was there by them and they were devastasted..thinking that my child ripped a book so badly I immediatly went to Amazon and ordered it and sent it in with the two girls one day - the teachers look on their faces were priceless....every year both preschool classes always fought over the book and they were happy to finally get rid of a book that was always fought over ....and here we were bringing a new copy back....it was priceless an another year childrens will still be able to fight over it...tee-hee....I bought one for home and my daughters best friend....so now it is not a big deal if the boys get it right? We have our own copy....must have book really cute and the graphics are adorable.

I had to buy this book because my five year old daughter keeps checking it out of the library. When I told her she had to check out another book this week she said, "Why, Mom? This is a GREAT book!" That is definitely one to have on our shelf. The pictures are delightful and the repetitive phrasing makes it easy to read yet there are some tough words which she has mastered because she knows the phrasing. I wish every book I purchased would pay off so well. She also said, "Mom, if you look at the pictures you just have to giggle."

She's already learned the rhymes, I say a part, and she knows when she needs to chime in! I also love Nadine Bernard Westcott's illustrations -- I've begun to search for and buy all of her books! Truly enjoyable for both the child and the adult!!
