Yep- it's a keeper. Maisy is just so patient and wonderful, as always. But pushy, impatient Tallulah keeps showing up. What can Maisy do?? Nothing, it seems, cause Tallulah is going to do just what she wants, which is play with Maisy. This one caused some concern for my 3-year old son, who wanted to know if I'd be angry if *his* friend, "a girl with braids" came and took a bath with *him*.

A delight to read, and enticing for toddlers

When my toddler started to show reluctance at taking baths, I found this Maisy book. Now with Maisy's help, she's enjoying bathtime again, and even asks to be read "Maisy Takes a Bath" when it isn't bathtime. The illustrations are simple enough for a toddler to see and understand. It's a little strange that Maisy refers to herself in the third person.

We were given this book as a hand me down in a bag of about 50 others. This is my 22 month old's favorite of them all and I'm here to buy more Maisy books. She can't wait until the end when Tallulah jumps in the tub so she can say "no no!" Last night I had to read it to her 3 times in a row! She loves it but I need some variety! :)

My Daughter's First Maisy Book

If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world.

Both of my daughters love the Maisy books; there's something about their simple stories and colorful pictures that even appeals to adults. The books are short and easy to read. But, the stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children.

This was the first Maisy book we ever bought our oldest daughter. Both of of our daughters still like it as Maisy attempts to take a bath but finds herself interrupted by Tallulah. Not one of my personal favorites, although I really can't explain why. I suspect my children are part fish, so maybe they like it because of that fact and because they love bath time (or any other opportunity to get wet).

My daughter of 3 1/2 years old loves doing the mazes. She cannot get enough of them. The Kumon books are the best work books out there. The quality of the paper, the drawings, and the easy to understand directions are top-notch.
We have gotten practically all of the various books that they make - including the Cutting & Pasting books and Numbers books. They are great learning materials for her because she really enjoys them and she learns so much from them - including manual dexterity doing the Cutting & Pasting books. I highly recommend these books!

This was a baptism gift for my godson. It is a really nice and sturdy book that can be read to baby. We had one similar for my kids and it would always go to church with us. It held up well to anything a baby/toddler's can do to it - and this one will too.

I was really disappointed in the quality of this book. It was listed as good and I intended to give it as a gift. However, upon receipt, my idea of good and the seller's must be very different. It was very worn and tattered and, in my opinion, in poor condition.

I bought this for my cousin's daughters baptism and it was perfect. The bright colors and the pictures capture my little cousin's eyes and it something that parents can read to their children when it is ready for bed time.

Great introduction for toddlers!

My 3 y.o. son practically demands we read this book every night before bed during our family bible and prayer time. Just the right amount of text, spiritual 'milk' aimed right at the young listener, and nice illustrations to boot. The 'action items' on each page really excite our young one, he can't wait to roar like a lion, baa like a sheep or sing 'happy birthday' to Jesus each night.

My wife and I are going to start teaching in our church's toddler room this summer and this book is definitely coming with us!

I definitely recommend this board book... it is simple and to the point with one shape per page. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the pull out tabs are annoying for my 19 month old since it takes a little tugging for the tabs to come out... she gets frustrated at times and ends up crying. Had I realized that this would be the case, I would have never introduced her to the tabs. In any case, I still recommend this book.

My first experience with this book occurred 6 years ago. It is not only great for babies, but for toddlers, and more durable than other similar "lift-the-flap" books. It is concept and word appropriate text for very small children. Since then, I have purchased it for numerous friends for baby showers. My own children have loved this book so much we had to go buy a 2nd copy. It is a great book to use for children between 6 - 24 months, especially great to tuck into the "church" bag or other places and activities where children need to sit quietly when they need something to capture their attention. We also have the other books in the series (which are also very well put together - Shapes, Opposites, Numbers), but this is my personal favorite.

Shapes

Review Date: 2007-05-15
My son likes it for the pull out tabs that reveal a drawing of an object that illustrates the shape drawn on the page. The shapes included are: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, heart and diamond. While the illustrations are as simple and straightforward as the limited vocabulary used in this book, they are still beautifully drawn. Rather that use solid colors for the shapes, each one has a subtle gradient to give it more pop. The real world objects are drawn in greater detail than the shapes so that they stand out. The illustrations included are: a tricycle, a quilt, a watermelon, a triangle instrument, a valentine and a kite.

I like that the book throws in some words that my son doesn't know straight away to give him something new to work on. He has learned "quilt" and "valentine" while reading this book to me.

Sturdy and Fun

The book was easy to read. It provided clear, reasonable guidelines and suggestions for students to organize. read, take notes and generally improve study skills. Specific strategies and examples are presented. It is a practical blueprint that will be useful for struggling students and those who simply want to be more effective.

This book arrived in three days. I was really impressed.

I have had this book before, but I'm afraid another teacher liked it even more than I did. This has graphic organizers that really work for the everyone, not just the learning challenged. My high-schoolers, as well as my elementary crowd have found this book helpful.

If I could rate this book more than five stars, I would. I've been a study skills consultant for many years, and a high school teacher even longer. This book I recommend to both parents and teachers. It comes with duplicating rights for an individual teacher's classroom (but the amount of paper you'd use if you duplicated it all would be prohibitive for most schools). In my classroom, I've picked and chosen the units I felt would be most helpful for each class. The work is clearly explained with good examples and self-tests. The illustrations are whimsical enough that they are not offensive to high school students. What's even nicer is that the students see the value in these lessons--they don't have to be sold.

I teach study skills to 7th and 8th graders--this is the text I prefer. It is clear and well-written, even if a little wordy. I teach it in units, having the students learn one skill, then building on it. Good Stuff!!

This is a terrific book! The strategies in it are useful and easy to follow. In being able to understand how each student learns, you can better teach that child. Also, when the students themselves understand how they learn, they can adapt their studying to fit their personal style.

Okay, I would be lying if I didn't say that food was important in our family. It is the centering of every family gathering. This book (along with a few others from this series) was a nice introduction for my niece on the different types of food, how to say them, and fun illustrations. It also has made the idea of trying some new foods a little more interesting for her.

So let me start by saying, as a dad it is very difficult for me to find both entertaining and witty baby books.. This one kept me laughing for months after i first read it at our public library. In fact i use some of the lines at work to annoy both my co-workers and my boss's. It still brings a smile to my face every time i have to change a diaper to say hey baby, your cheese is melting out your end!
Ok so i like stupid humor, but so will you... a must have for any father!

We live in Texas so we see and eat a lot of this food. I really like the pronunciation key on the back. It really made me giggle (especially the first line, Hola! Jalapeno. I said Hello! my chile friend). The pictures are bright and festive, my son enjoyed that. I give it to him to look at when I change his diaper and he has a good old time.

Review Date: 2008-02-18
I gave this book away soon after purchasing it because I felt like it's tone was too negative. I understand it's purpose is to build up the older sibling, but for every good point it makes about the big sister it has a put-down for the baby. For example, big sister eats with a spoon and fork but the baby eats with her hands (with picture of big sister looking grossed-out). This is not the attitude about the new baby that we want to encourage in our daughter.

My 3 yo likes this book about being the best big sister ever- i have to adapt it when i read it as its all about being a big sister to a little sister and we have a newborn boy.
Also some of the things my daughter cant do yet- for example one page says My sister poopies in her diaper but I poopy on the potty... well, my daughter doesnt do that yet. A couple of other things too I have to adapt- but she does ask for this book frequently.
