I just can tell you that I received this book as gift and since that day my girl cannot go to bed without it. She was like 6 month old and now she has 3 years. I decided to purchase the book because I have problems even when I have to wash it, imagine if it gets lost! I definitely need to have a backup. It very nice to see how she loves to play with the little bunny and how she enjoys the textures from the cover. I also love to see how she can known "read" the pages and play with book with her little friends as I used to play with her. I hope your kids enjoy this item as much as mine.

We bought this as a Christmas gift for our 10-month-old great grandson and there wasn't an adult in the family who didn't read it, play with it and love it! What a wonderful little book. I know our g-grandson will come to love it too. The perfect little starter book!

Lots of fun!

We received this book as a gift for my son. I had Pat the Bunny as a kid, but I'd never seen such a cool cloth book; we've been showing it to visitors when they come over. It's very entertaining to hop the bunny through the scenes, and I know we'll have lots of fun with the book in the future. What a great way to get kids (and the adults they read with) involved in the story!
The scenes are charming, and the concept combines storytime (and bedtime, since the sleepy bunny is getting ready for bed) with playtime. I'm very excited that people are thinking outside the box as they create products for children.

Kinda Bummed...

My son LOVES his Pat the Bunny book, so I bought this one for him so he could keep it in his crib with him. I'm bummed because they are only 2 pages that are truely interactive, and the story itself was sort of lacking... He doesn't even seem interested in it... I'm still hopeful that he'll get interested and I didn't waste my money...

A Review of "Lightning McQueen"
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-27
To have it all and realize that it is still not enough is the lesson offered by "Lightning McQueen," Frank Berrios's take on William Blake's famous maxim: "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom." At first, it's tempting to brush off this work as yet another picaresque morality tale, but to do so would be to deprive oneself of a truly transcendental reading experience.

The tale is told in retrospect, as McQueen looks back upon his life addicted to speed. McQueen is a racecar, you see, a young fool whose heart is set solely on winning the race, any race, anywhere, at any cost. Berrios's prose leads us to envision the late night excesses of the young car, tasting the fruits of fame and riches, guzzling oil by the barrel, burning rubber on nameless, abandoned parking lots, constantly proving himself against some nameless foe.

"I used to think racing was everything," says McQueen, as he cuts a swath of devastation in his wake during one particular race. What is it that motivates him? What is it that causes this self-destructive behavior? In his genius, Berrios never reveals it. Instead, we are left to ponder the internal machinations of a tortured soul who can find no other light in his life than the glare of the winner's podium and all the accoutrements it engenders.

It is not until he arrives in Radiator Springs that perspective is gained and he begins to take stock of the decisions he's made and where those decisions have taken him. "I made new friends [in Radiator Springs]," McQueen admits, and we believe him. The grandeur and beauty of the landscape and a special bond formed with a nameless female car who lives in the town causes McQueen to rethink everything about his former lifestyle.

"I still like winning," McQueen tells us in the book's final page, "but I also love going for a drive with my friends!" Berrios wants us to believe that through balance, success is attainable, that one can discover a winning formula without an extra edge. Ultimately, the admission seems too neat and trite in a work of such pulsating introspection. As readers, we are left wanting. But it's a minor stumble for Berrios in a work of exquisite prose, and after all of the tribulations and redemptions that he has guided us through from the opening scene, perhaps we can forgive him.

Through the eyes of a simple racecar, Berrios examines the drama of choice, the rearrangement of values and how the bonds of friendship can leave an impression that can change a life's course. It is his strongest work to date, a tour-de-force of devastating literary consequence.

My 2 1/2 yr old son loves the Car movie, the characters and LOVES this book set. He has just as much fun taking the books in & out of the box as he does reading them. He practically has the books memorized to read to himself. The box is holding up surprisingly well considering that he carries it a lot of places & often to the grocery store!

My two year old who's favorite show is Cars loves these books. They are very simple books that each tell a watered down portion of the story. Each book is from a different character's POV from the movie; Lightning, Mater, Sally, and Doc.

The books are very sturdy which is great for when one of my children decides to get rough with them. The little case they come in is cute and while my boy likes carrying it around, it's made of a much thinner cardboard and I can tell it won't last very long.

All in all, I'm very happy with this product.

I had and loved this book's sister, 'Monster at the end of this book', as a child. I had the book for my kids which made it through my first two unscathed. When my last child (2 yr old) go a hold of it, that was the end. So this board book was a great solution. I got it's 'sister' in the board book format also. I just love the drama that Grover (and Elmo) provide in this book.

The original monster at the end of this book was one of my favorites as a child and my 14 month old son loves it too, so when I saw this book I was excited to get it. It is so bad I can't even read it to my son. They try to copy the original, but they tried to hard. Adding Elmo doesn't help. I was very disappointed with the book. Stick with the original. The Monster at the End of This Book (Big Bird's Favorites Brd Bks)

It's July, and we're reading this book daily! My 16 mo. old son loves to pull this book off the shelf and have me read it to him. I wish that the last page read: "I am Baby Jesus asleep in the hay and I am the reason for Christmas day". But, other than that, it's a very cute book and my son loves it.

I puchased this book for my 10 month old son. I wanted something to start reading to him before Christmas that would speak to the meaning of the holiday. It is perfect! The story is short but to the point and is able to keep his interest. Each page speaks to a part of the Christmas Story in rhyme, the donkey, the sheep, sheepards, wisemen etc. The last page has a picture of the Baby Jesus and reads "I am the child asleep in the hay and I am the reason for Christmas day."

PERFECT FOR TRANSITIONS!

Review Date: 2008-08-20
I read this to my 2 year old when I wanted him to start sleeping in a big boy's bed. I couldn't believe how easily this book helped with the transition. With everthing that elmo did in this book, my son could do/ have too. I showed him elmo's pillow, sheets, and lovey's and then showed my son that he has his pillow, chose his sheets, ect..too and said that "he was just like elmo" what was another great bonus is that in this book, elmo has no binkie in his mouth - so, when it was time for that stage to happen - this book became my greatest reference! Now, I am about to have a new baby and once again this book is coming in handy. One page shows a crib and a big boy bed in the same room so now I can explain that there will be a baby in the crib that is near his bed! I must admit I couldn't have been more pleased!

My 3 year old granddaughter first introduced this book to me while I was at her house for a visit awaiting the birth of her new little sister. My first thought was, "well it's a board book so it'll be too simple for it to be good"... I read it the first night at bedtime, then the second night, then the third night and it continued on for the entire month I was there! LOL....sure we both knew it by heart very quickly and would read it out loud together, but that was half the fun. I'd do funny voices when I read it and sometimes changed a few of the words to kind of mix it up...But she enjoyed it so very much EVERY time. When I got back to the state where I live, I bought my own copy (just because I'm a kid at heart and I wanted to have something tangible of those beautiful reading memories with her.) I was further rewarded one day when she was having a hard time taking her afternoon nap. When my daughter called, I asked if I could talk to my little "Peanut"...I told her to go get her book and I would read it to her and she had to follow along and open all the little flaps. She did of course and she giggled the whole way through as if it were the first time she was hearing it. It was another priceless moment for this grandma...and she didn't have any trouble going down for her nap after that either. It's amazing what will capture a little ones attention. Sometimes we adults make things too complicated. As for me, I love to see things through the eyes of a child.

I teach sixth and seventh grade students. While I've known that these kinds of concrete, multi-level activities would be helpful to them, the logistics always left me defeated--and I'd never have all of my letter tiles returned at the end of a lesson. This book solved my word-making problems, however! Each list corresponds with a strip of reproducible letter tiles in the back. Hand out a new strip for each lesson, and let the kids keep them when they're done. The activities truly are multi-level and interesting even to above grade-level learners. If you're a middle level teacher who wants to increase the word knowledge of your students, this book is a wonderful resource. Now, if I can just keep my colleagues from stealing it...

We love this book! We received this as a gift from my mother who is a retired 2nd grade teacher. I started reading this book to my son while he played in the tub every night when he was only 7 months old. He is now 20 months and it is a part of our routine that he looks forward to every evening. When I show him the cover he claps his hands and says, "YAAAAAAAYYYY!" This year I am sending copies of this book to all of my friends for their children. I have already started reading it to my 2 month old. It is such a feel good message. The illustrations are bright and engaging for a child or adult of any age. The best part of all is the content. Our favorite part of the book is, "You're not any of this, 'cause you're more than you seem! You are all that you think and you hope and you dream! You're a gifted creation with imagination! You're a new day desire to reach even higher! You're the feelings that start from down deep in your heart! You're the pride and the joy inside each girl and boy!" (As you can see, I have read this book aloud so many times that I know it by heart. . . .you will, too!)

My kids love turning the pages of this book - the colors and freshness of the illustrations are very eye-catching. Most importantly, the message is a natural, beautiful one about color and skin. My 2nd grader is studying a unit on Ellis Island and immigration and how America has been built by many people from different nations. This book is a great complement to their studies.
