This is absolutely a lovely book. The illustrations are soothing for bedtime, and the rhythmic story makes for a perfect bedtime story. I have been reading this to my son since he was born, and he still loves it at 3 years old. Great bonding experience with this wonderful story.

This is a great book that I would recommend to all for those quite moments just before sleep. This gentle story leads you through an array of animals as they settle down for the night. I find the pictures great and the gentle rhythm of the book a delight. I could not as more of a bedtime story.

I read this book to my daughter many nights from the night she was born until she was old enough for chapter books. She loved the cadence of the rhymes and would repeat them along with me as she got older. Now my oldest step-daughter is having her first baby so this is one of the books we got her - we hope it will be a favorite in her house as well!

This wasn't exactly what I expected. The chairs (I bought two, for twin boys) are just too small. They won't be able to use them very long. The overall construction is great but the size isn't. If your child is small for his/her age it's perfect.

Great book for toilet training little boys

Review Date: 2008-07-13
I bought three potty training books for my son and this is one I like the most. It has a nice specific story which doesn't dodge the fact that poo and wee are what actually go into a potty (as some of the others do), and the story outlines the training process neatly. The parents' reaction to accidents is good and can be used as an example when my own child has an accident ("Don't worry, all children have accidents sometimes. Next time you'll remember"). The illustrations are very good, and my son clearly relates to them (he's fascinated by Michael's car at the beginning of the book). Highly recommended.

One of the best books ever for potty time (and for today's politics)

Review Date: 2008-07-12
Although ostensibly written to teach small children a basic lifeskill, this is also a fine book to teach Republicans some basic conservative principles.

It begins by explaining how, when Michael's diaper is wet or dirty, "he tells mommy or daddy. Then they put a new diaper on, and Michael is clean and dry again." Now, think Presidential and how voters will replace "Diaper George" with either Barack or John.

After Michael's parents bring home a potty, George (I mean Michael) does the obvious; he sits on it, fully clothed. Then he sits his Teddy Bear on it, 'cause he likes Teddy (Roosevelt). Sounds like Michael (I mean George) needs some on-the-potty (I mean on-the-job) training ... or at least to listen to his Daddy.

The book is a beautiful, sensitive and helpful guide to training a young child in one of the basics of life. It's written in language simple and clear enough for any Republican (I mean parent) to understand in teaching the basics of what's important.

It took Michael (George) some time. "Michael sat and sat. This time something happened. Mommy and Daddy and Michael looked in the potty. They saw pee and poop." Sounds like what prosecutors saw in the Abramoff lobbying scandal, doesn't it? Of course, cleaning up pee and poop is a lot easier than cleaning up Washington.

Consider the following sequence: "One day Michael forgot to use his potty. His pants got wet. The floor got wet, too." During Hurricane Katrina a lot of pants and floors got wet. Remember, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job"?

Please, don't let the political similarities deter you from buying this book. It deserves the high ratings others give it. What's more, when your child is properly potty trained, pass it along to some Republican to help them start over again from the basics.

They may need it more than your child. Just look at the mess they've made. Don't you wish someone had read it to George when it was published in 2000?

What a treat to buy this for a friend's baby. My youngest child LOVED this book because as others have pointed out, it is fantastic! Just reading the words results in a great rhyme and makes you dance. You can't help it. Babies love it, toddlers love it, and parents love to read it, even the 4,999th time. It makes everyone smile. We wore the cover off and had to buy multiple copies. What a great author, love all her books but this is by far our fave.

There is no greater compliment than when a child tries to recite the book BACK to the parents. Boynton has accomplished that with "Barnyard Dance!" Our oldest daughter, who is three, has Developmental Apraxia of Speech. Words do not come easily for her. BUT she adores this book and tries to "read" it to us all the time. Guaranteed to please your little one, I promise.

I love this book. I love the rhythm of it, I love the note at the end, I love the dedication - love it.

Unfortunately, I've yet to get either of my nieces overly involved in it. They'll sit through it, but they won't request it :(

So I've had to take a star off what I'd normally rank this book as because, in my house, it's just not doing its job. I don't know why they don't love it, they just don't.

My grandchild listens while the entire book is read.

This is a type of story that has been told almost as long as there have been storytellers, except that this story is (uniquely?) suitable for preschoolers and babies.

The little bunny declares he'll run away for no other reason than because he can say such a thing. At that age, children say all sorts of silly things, but they really still want their parents to run after them and hug them - which is what the mama bunny here does.

It's so scary...

I think this book is awful. My little sister received it from a relative, and actually had nightmares about it. It's not a good thing to stalk your kids, seriously. Let them have a bit of autonomy and some room to grow and develop in their own ways. Heck, even if they run away, it's probably okay. I know that I would "run away" all the time as a kid, but I always came back, and I always learned something from the attempt. Don't smother your kids quite so much, and maybe we'll have more innovative, responsible adults in the future.

A beautiful classic!

I love this little book. Many understand it as a little allegory of the relationship between our sould and God. We can run away, but God will always find us, in His love.

The Runaway Bunny

ISBN 0061074292 - I'm kind of surprised to find myself mostly up the middle on this book. Largely loved, it does have good points, but it's hardly the outstanding story I'd expected. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars but can't, so 2 it is.

A nameless little bunny says he's going to run away and his mother tells him she will follow him. As he plans to become various things to hide from her, she is equally imaginative in the ways she will find him.

There is a little of the stalker-mom in the mother bunny, but we're talking about (a) little kids and (b) bunnies. It is extraordinarily unlikely that the target age group of 0-3 is going to be freaked out by the idea that Mommy will do anything and go anywhere to keep you safe. That's actually a fairly comforting idea. It's the person who reads the book and the tone they use that makes the difference. Make "If you run away, I will run after you." sound like a threat and you've changed the entire sense of the book.

So it isn't the freaked out parents that make me two-star this book. It's actually the book itself. On the pages where there is text, the drawings are pleasant black and white drawings; where there is no text, the illustrations are almost all gaudily colored and badly drawn (with one exception, when the mother bunny is the tree that the baby bunny as a bird flies home to). The stark difference between these two styles just isn't attractive at all and, because a huge part of childrens' books is the illustrations, the board book edition of The Runaway Bunny just doesn't cut it.

My 15 month old girl absolutely loves the Pigeon books and this one is no exception. We read it several times a day along with the other board book, "The Pigeon loves things that go".
While not as good as "The Pigeon finds a Hotdog" or the other Pigeon books aimed at older children it's fantastic for toddlers. The Pigeon's ever changing moods make it perfect for using different expression in your voice which children love. And it's short enough to keep their attention.
As always the simple drawings are fantastic and the Pigeon has so much attitude!

This book follows the original "Pigeon" books but is geared for toddlers. It uses simple language and the board book format. Young children may enjoy the pigeon's antics on their own with out concern for torn pages. We also have the other books, "Pigeon finds a hot dog" and the original, "Don't let the pigeon drive the bus." I enjoy it with children and marvel at the range of emotions that the author/illustrator achieves with a simple line drawing. Thank you Mo Willems!

Better for younger children, a disappointment for older kids

My 5 1/2 year old daughter simply LOVES the Pigeon series and reads them all - Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, and The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog.

So when we found this book, Pigeon Has Feelings, Too, we assumed we had another winner on our hands. What a disappointment it turned out to be! It is a board book, which is not necessarily a bad thing for a 5 year old, but is also ~very~ short. It does follow the same style as the other pigeon books, with the pigeon being kind of "tricked" into going over various feelings until he is happy, the very feeling he was originally asked to present. However, the book is really not as good as the other three by Mo Willems.

I feel, however, that this book does have merit for early readers. A three year old, or two year old who has a short attention span, and who is not as familiar with the original stories may well have a good introduction to the Pigeon series with Pigeon Has Feelings, Too. Therefore, I am still rating this book with 3 stars.

For a while my daughter (22 months at the time of this review) had no interest in Dr Seuss, but slowly she is warming up to it. This book's board book format that she can carry around works for her better in this case. She is still indifferent to a big hardcover collection that we have, probably because she is not allowed to handle it by herself. It's still not something that she brings me to read often, that's why she completely takes me by surprise by randomly quoting parts of it. Her favorite page is about quick feet and slow feet. Again, I expect this book to have a long lasting life in her library

My granddaughter is only 20 months old and lives in Australia. I live in Philadelphia. I have actually seen her in person only 3 times since she was born. We "meet" on line about once a week with webcams ready. Although she speaks well, she's not quite ready for a full discussion. But, when she came to visit at 16 months, she really knew me instantly!

I had the idea that we could "read" together, so I ordered several Dr. Seuss books - 2 of each - from Amazon.com. She gets to choose the book, and I have my copy near at hand. We can not only read, but I can also point out the various pictures.

Last week, when reading "Hands Hands Fingers Thumb," I decided to bring out an African drum I have in the house. My daughter brought out one she had at her house, and my granddaughter and I played the drums together. "One thumb, one thumb, drumming on the drum. Dum ditty dum ditty dum dum dum." We were both laughing hard and had a great time. It was the first time I felt we were able to play together. Thanks, Amazon!

We received this as a gift for our first daughter, now 5, when she was a baby. It became her favorite at the time. Now she still loves it, because she can read it to her little sister, who's 2. They both get the greatest kick out of the silly rhymes. Plus, after all of the times I was asked to read it, I memorized the book (it's not that long), and could "read" it while cooking, etc., and my daughter flipping the pages. Plus, since it's a small board book, it's durable and portable, making it a must-have on any trips, long or short. We also have The Foot Book, ABCs, The Tooth Book, and Mr. Brown Can Moo (another favorite). All are worth the purchase.

I purchased this book because I own several other Dr. Suess board books, including Mr. Brown can Moo, Hop on Pop, the Foot Book and The Shape of Me. I like all of these books, because they contain simple rhymes, colorful pictures and are great for helping a baby learn language.

I was a bit disappointed with There's a Wocket, because most of the words are made up. I don't mind a few made up words, but all the characters in this book are made up (there's a nooth grush on my toothbrush?)

I would recommend waiting until your child is old enough to no longer need board books, and purchase the full version. I'm sure older children who are already talking would love the silly made up creatures & rhymes.

It's such a cute book!

In this one, there's a page for baby animals (always popular), one for farm animals (great for talking about going to Grandpa's house), one for zoo animals, and many others. The wonderful thing about these books is that there are bright colors and clear photographs of the objects/animals with labels for parents in case we don't know that a baby goose is a gosling.

I really only got this book as an 'extra' purchase, to qualify for free shipping. However it has become an unexpected hit with my 16 month old who can now identify most of the animals from the pictures, and she will ask for this book over and over and over again.
The book includes some rather obscure animals, which probably wouldn't be on my 'introductory list' of animals for a young child. My list would probably run "lion, tiger, bear, cat, dog" (which are also included)... rather than the "gosling, chinchilla, parakeet, egret and kookaburra" which you'll also find in this book. My husband and I have both learned a few new animals as well!
All in all and great buy that keeps my daughter entertained for hours.

My son did not show any interest in these books. Books are ok not very creative and rhyming as the "The going to bed book".

Sandra Boynton's books are so much fun to read aloud to babies and toddlers! My children adored all of Boynton's books and I had a blast reading them each and every time. Pajama Time is our #1 all-time favorite read aloud. We actually created a dance to go along with the book! These books make wonderful books for baby's first time library. These books beg to be read aloud and enjoyed together. Go ahead...bathe your baby with the rhythmic, dancing language in these books. You will be providing your baby with the ultimate listening experience and laying the critical foundation for early literacy learning.
