My 4 yo son is crazy about all things musical so this toy was a hit at Christmas time. He loves having his own "CD player" and sings/dances to the familiar Sesame Street songs. Each of the 4 cd's have 6 songs (music only, no lyrics); the book has the lyrics with great illustrations. I would recommend this toy for any toddler who loves Sesame Street and music.

This book is fantastic. Not only is the story adorable, but the pictures are amazing. It is the best illustrated book my daughter owns. She is 2-1/2 and loves this book so much she has memorized it. She "reads" it from cover to cover all the time. What is cuter than hearing a little voice say, "Baby Please, Baby Please!" It is a must have for your toddlers library.

I checked this book out from the library for my 17 month old daughter and she is absolutely in love with it! We always read a book before she goes to sleep and this is the one that she has chosen every day, twice a day (nap included). It works out well since the book ends with the baby getting a kiss from Mama as she tucks her in for bedtime. I decided to buy it for her so that I won't have to keep renewing the loan. Beautiful images!!!

Have you ever begged your kids to go back to sleep or thought that baby needs a nap? Well you can identify with what this baby gets into. Even though the child is told "no" to this or "don't" do that, you will find yourself laughing at the clever illustrations and expressions. The kids at the daycare believe that everything in the book could happen and realized that the clock depicted in each scene proves that naps are necessary. Now that is a positive reinforcement for parents. The illustrations are phenomenal - the details, color, and mischief depicted - will fill your heart with joy as well as provide discussion topics with your kids.

I have used this for several years and have found the word lists to be appropriate and on level. I don't solely use the activities in this book because I feel the kids get bored with the same general format. Other than that, they are quality activities.

This book is, like Wilson Sanger's other books, a lot of fun. The rhymes are a pleasure to read aloud, and the pictures are clever. We love to introduce the kids to a variety of foods/cultures, and this book is a great way to do just that. Because we're not Jewish, we can't vouch for the authenticity of the depictions. She does include a pronunciation guide for us Gentiles in the back - much appreciated. Both of my kids (now 5 and 2) love these books. It's fun to start out the last rhyme by saying, "Today my tummy says: let's nosh," and hearing them finish "on lots and lots of matzoh!"

I like this series for kids. It's a nice way to get kids curious about foods from different cultures, different ethnicities.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of the others, but that may just reflect the fact that Jewish cooking isn't as good as other cultural foods. We may be the only ethnic group that doesn't find comfort in our own comfort foods, at least that's my take on it, for numerous reasons, some of which I will respectfully not go into, as they are not flattering to my family.
But still, a nice book, a nice series. If you are fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood with a good variety of ethnic restaurants, and fortunate enough to have children with temperaments conducive to public dining, these books are a nice supplement to the feast.

Finally "The Big Tidy Up" is available again for those of us who did not have the hundreds of dollars an old copy cost on line. This was my daughter's absolutely favorite book when she was about three years old. She had it memorized. Her twin girls now have their own copies from "Nana." We'll see how their rooms come to measure up compared to hers in terms of absolute messiness.

I am so excited that this book is back! My sister and I, children of the 70s, went searching for this memorable book to share with our kids. And like apparently hundreds of others were shocked to find that it was out of print and that used copies were selling at very high prices (I saw one listed for $395!!). My sister just e-mailed to let me know it's really back. She already bought me a copy. What are they thinking selling it for only 8.99? I'm going to buy a dozen. Seriously! This book should be featured on the Today Show. It's a true gem. I have only two criticisms -- what took you guys so long to rerelease this!!! AND with the next reprint, because this one is going to sell out, make it into a larger format because the illustrations are worthy of a bigger size.

I, like many reviewers, loved this book as a child. During a recent move, I lost the pages (still have the cover) to the book. I was shocked at the prices listed for used copies and thought I would never be able to replace it for my children. Just found out it is being rereleased in May of 2008 and Amazon is taking pre-orders! I have already placed my order and can't wait!

Like all the others this was a favorite book of mine as a child. I am 43 now and still remembered "Jennifer knew as well as you that everything had it's place, but she didn't care a wit a bit and her room was a real disgrace" !!
They really need to reprint this book. It will be loved by many children once again.
I just purchased a copy for $265 because I no longer had mine. It was worth it!! Now I will protect it and cherish it for as long as I own it.
I'm going to write to the publishers too and see if we can't get this book in stores for this generation and the next ....

The books are small, only a couple pages. They're cute, but ... The biggest problem I have are the illustrations. They are adorable, no doubt, but the baby characters are somewhat distorted, and for a young child they almost don't even realize they are supposed to be babies. The cartoons look nothing like babies, especially to a toddler. My 17 month old has very little interest in the books. We bought Beach babies and Urban babies.

Beach Babies Wear Shades is a simple, basic children's board book designed as a quick read to kid's who want some visual stimulation. This book is aimed at the two to five age group and it's a book that is short on words and big on pictures.
Beach Babies Wear Shades contains a total of eighteen pages with illustrations on one side of each pair of pages and a short, brief sentence on the other. This isn't much of a book based on words. Like many other board books aimed at the young toddler crowd, Beach Babies Wear Shades assumes that little children would rather enjoy drawings than listen to words. For the most part, this is true, and I'm pretty sure this is the main reason why Beach Babies Wear Shades has so few words. Adding everything together results in a grand total of approximately 41 words in the entire book. Each individual sentence makes a statement of action, like Beach Babies Nap Under the Sun, followed by an illustration of a baby engaged in that specific action.
The one redeeming quality of this book is its illustrations. Each one offers a rainbow of colors and each one is careful to depict a different type of child (different swim wear, different ethnic group, etc.) to make sure that no child feels left out. The drawings are not necessarily stunning works of art, but they do succeed in one important way: They stimulate a child's imagination. Kids who enjoy the beach will look at these illustrations and imagine they are right there, sitting in the warm sand, enjoying the sunshine, and gazing out over the water.
As far as the words go, they are too simplistic and lacking in creativity to add much to the book. There is no rhyming or rhythm and for this reason, most toddlers won't even hear them. Not only that, but the words are lacking in creativity. The only hint of creativity shows up on a set of pages that depicts a child riding the back of a swimming dog with the caption: Beach Babies Dog Paddle. That is about the extent of the creativity. Otherwise, the words could have been written by anyone- even someone with no creative ability who has never written a children's book before.
Overall, Beach Babies Wear Shades is an acceptable book to pass the time away. The words are lackluster, but the illustrations are good enough to grab the attention of most young children- especially those who enjoy the beach. My little girls find the book okay, but nothing special. However, the liberal use of multiple colors and the imagination- inducing scenes will get kids' minds moving; keeping them preoccupied while parents go about their day.

An excellent book for preschoolers. I teach preschool and the book definitely captured the children's interest. After reading the book, we did an art project based on the book. The children painted a piece of paper brown, then added a pre-cut duck shape, and then surrounded the duck with green strips of construction paper to represent the grass. The children giggled as "the duck got stuck in the muck."

I use this book as a speech therapist with toddlers. I simplify the text slightly and it is great for prediction, auditory memory, and word final k stimulation. Once they are familiar with it, I encourage the child to "help" me with the repetitive chorus. As a bonus it is simply a really fun and cute book.

We learn names of different fruits, vegetables, and animals, as well as different ways of traveling. As all the Barefoot books he has, he loves it.

The illustrations are absolutely fantastic! they are beyond vivid its truly a feast for the eyes!
The story is simple and cause the illustrations are so perfectly done for a toddler it's very self-explanatory, Bear is traveling through the entire story on different means of transportation he goes to an island on a boat, to the market on bike, to a grand ball in a carriage and through the story the little boy is trying to keep up with bear but he just keeps missing "the boat" so to say. It's a very fun rhyming journey to introduce to little ones! This is our favorite of Stella Blackstone's Bear series its by far her best book!

This book is on par with the other Spot-series books. Cute little pictures, basic vocabulary and storylines, etc. My daughter loves to point out interesting things on each page, like the ducks at the park and the boat at the beach. Cute book about all of the fun things that Spot does with his daddy.
my boys love it when daddy reads this to them

This book is written in the same style as all other Spot books. My daughter, 2, loves this book, especially when Daddy reads this with her. My son, 4, loves this one too. Great book, simple and easy to understand.
