I love this story and was planning on getting it for my daughter at some point- when I saw it as a board book I decided to get it right away! The book seems well made and has nice bold, vibrant illustrations. The only negative thing I noticed about it- and I noticed it right away when I received it- is the fact that it has pointy edges. Most board books are rounded at the corners. It's not a huge deal, but for young kids/babies who are clumsy and put everything in their mouths, it seems like a poor design.

Touching story, not just for children.

I was a bit disappointed with this one. It's from the author of Goodnight Moon, which I have to admit is far, far better. This book doesn't really have much of a flow to it and is really choppy. It doesn't even rhyme in some places. Anyway, my daughter really disliked this book and I recommend just sticking Goodnight Moon.

I did not actually see the book - I had it sent to my daughter for my grandaughter, but she was very pleased with it and was planning to order it herself anyway, so it was a nice surprise as well.

A bit of a let down

Be warned, this is not a repeat of Goonight Moon.

I guess it is hard to duplicate a masterpiece.

Still this book is an enjoyable bedtime story regarding the simple life of our favorite bunny family circa the 1930s-40s. The illustrations and writing to not compare to the orignal, but there is not much out there in children's literature which can. Still this is above average storytelling and my children enjoy it and that is all that really matters.

This little book was touted as the sequel to the classic "Goodnight Moon" by the same author and illustrator. While this book is all right, it does not reach the quality of prose of the original. Nor are the illustrations as detailed and interesting. I especially missed hunting for the mouse on every page.

Super cute. My daughter is a huge Maisy fan, and this is the kind of book that fuels the love!! I especially like when the reader does find Panda. ("Is Panda in the toy box?" "Yes!!" -- and there's Panda!) Definitely a nice addition to the Maisy collection.

Maisy fans won't be disappointed.

My daughter, at 21 months, is on a real Maisy kick. She can't get enough, and particularly loves these Maisy lift-the-flap books. Not a lot in them for the parents, but also not a terrible chore to read over and over, since they are simple enough that she can pretty much read them to herself. She loves the silliness of this one, in particular (fish in the toilet, duck in the washing machine, etc.). I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a Maisy fan in mind.

My daughters (13 months and 2.5 years) enjoy Maisy books and this one is one of their favourites. Looking for Panda and eventually finding him brings cheers and hurrahs from both girls - they never seem to get tired of looking under the flaps to see if Panda is there. The book is made of nice strong card so no matter how many times you lift those flaps there is no chance of them being ripped off in the excitement of finding Panda!

Panda is Missing! Can Maisy find him?

If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world.

Both of my daughters love the Maisy books; there's something about their simple stories and colorful pictures that even appeals to adults. The books are short and easy to read. But, the stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children.

This is a lift-the-flap Maisy book wherein children help Maisy look for her toy, Panda. As always, lots of fun for the kids who love lifting those flaps.

Look in all the dangerous places!

We love Maisy, but this book had to be put away. Frankly, I think the publisher should pull it. As my husband pointed out, it encourages children to explore all the "forbidden" zones -- inside the (front loading) washing machine, where there is a lovely duck and in the toilet, where there's a friendly fish. Under the sink, where there is a cute snail. In the laundry basket, where there's a nice chicken. We're trying to keep our child from dropping toys into the toilet, emptying freshly dried clothes from the laundry basket, crawling into the dryer, and especially from getting inside the under-sink cabinet, and this book seems to encourage the exact opposite!

It's a nice add on to the baby quilt showing similar Nursery Rhymes. I thought the book was larger in size, but I should have looked at the measurments while ordering, also the price reflects the size. However, I would have still made the purchase & am pleased with it.

I have a few quibbles about this book. First, like the other 2 star reviewer said, there are some poems which I had never heard of before and which don't really rhyme well. Second, many poems only have the first verse or so. For example, "one, two, buckle my shoe" ends at ten. Third, "ring around the rosy" is right in the middle of the book. No matter how tired my daughter is, she's always up for another round of "ring around the rosy" - making this a tough book to use at bedtime. Finally, I thought the illustrations were rather odd - depicting a racially integrated Victorian England...?! Nice sentiment, but rather revisionist.

My son has loved this book from day one. He is almost 2 1/2, and we are on our 2nd copy. He calls it baa baa. He asks to have it read over and over again. I never heard of many of the nursery rhymes, but who cares. He loves it, and that is what matters.

I was very disappointed when I received this book. It had gotten such great reviews on Amazon that I was sure it would be a perfect gift for my toddler nephews. However, I haven't even heard of many of the rhymes in it! Of the 15 nursery rhymes in the book, I only recognized 7 of them (and I consider myself a pretty well-read person). I wouldn't have minded the inclusion of rhymes that are new to me, except that I'm not sure how to read them so that they sound like they, well...rhyme. For example "goosey, goosey, gander, where dost thou wander? Upstairs and downstairs and in my lady's chamber." Ok, maybe I can make that work with a little tinkering, but what about "Hush-a-bye, baby, lie still with daddy. Mommy has gone to the mill, to get some meal to bake a cake. So please, my dear baby, lie still?" If I can't get the rhymes to sound proper, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to read them to my nephews or my son.

The book DOES NOT include many common nursery rhymes, such as "Mary had a little lamb", "The old woman who lived in a shoe", "Little Bo Peep", "Little Boy Blue", "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", or "Hey Diddle Diddle."

Here is a listing of the rhymes that ARE included so you can decide for yourself if it has what you're looking for.
Baa, Baa, Black Sheep
Hush-a-bye (I know this as "rock-a-bye baby")
Jack (jack be nimble...)
Goosey, Goosey, Gander
Jack and Jill
ABC
To Market
Hush-a-bye (this is the one that I typed above)
Ring around the rosies
A Star (no, this is not twinkle, twinkle)
Five Toes (this little piggy went to the market...)
One, Two, Buckle My Shoe
For Baby
I See the Moon
Sleep, Baby, Sleep

Also, the illustrations aren't very interesting.

My mother used to read me this story as a kid. I always liked it. As I got older, I began to appreciate it even more for its subtle humor. The story is unique and the illustrations should really be admired. I just bought it for my 2 year old and she seems to enjoy it as well. I highly recommend it.

Ferdinand is a bull who listens to his own heart. He does not bow to 'peer pressure' and try to be someone he is not. The story is not really about bull-fighting, but about self-acceptance and the acceptance of others for whom they are -- even when initial expectations are not met.

A Classic

What a lovely classical story of peace. Ferdinand is a peaceful bull who loves to lie in the meadow and smell flowers. He gets stung by a bee at exactly the wrong moment (when the bullfighters are coming to pick a bull to take to the fights). So he is, of course, carted off to fight, since he is obviously the feistiest bull in the field. When he gets to the ring, no matter how mean the bullfighters are to him, Ferdinand just lies down and smells the flowers on the ladies' hats. This is such a beautiful story of peace and hope. Even though bullfighting is not promoted or accepted in the U.S., I think this is a beautiful classic story and I do recommend it for all ages.

there is another story of the flying mouse at the same

My 5 yo still loves this book! It introduces children to the beauty of Van Gogh's paintings and teaches them to look for color variations in the paintings. I think it's great, because there are many shades of each color, and this book goes beyond the typical colors of the rainbow. It teaches children to recognize the various hues & values of color. Also, I love the quotes by Van Gogh. If you love and appreciate this artist, you will love sharing this book with your children. If you want a basic book about color try, What Makes a Rainbow? Each page has colored ribbon, which completes a rainbow at the end. It's a fun book!

My son is almost 32 months, and knows all his colors and letters. This book is a terrific "next step" for him. It encourages thought by asking questions, for example, "What do you think the girl in this picture is thinking?" So it's way beyond simple ABCs and colors. With the book leading the way, I am encouraged to make up some of my own thought provoking questions for my son.

I ordered what I thought was a nicely illustrated book to accompany the CD of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf I had ordered for my grandson. What I received was a teacher's guide with several very small paperback books in a plastic container. There was no mention in the listing that this was a teacher's guide. For the price I assumed it was a very nice book. Needless to say I returned it, ordered another but that was on back order. Grammy

A spectacular visual accompaniment to the music and narration! Beautiful pictures. My 2-year-old daughter asks for the music by name and sits down looking at the book while she listens to the instruments, pointing out the different animals/characters when she hears the different instruments appear. I never imagined she'd be learning words for "oboe" and "clarinet" at this point, never mind their sounds, but she is entranced and easily goes back and forth between the music, the story, and the different instruments and characters.

I use this version of Peter and the Wolf when I teach music classes to young children. I also use a separate CD (a good one is narrated by Leonard Bernstein). The reason I like to use this edition for the younger kids is because in the end the duck actually comes out of the wolf alive, even though that's not the way it originally was written.

This book focuses on being thankful for all things in life--from the smallest of things (the green grass, noses, giggles and many more) to the more important things in life (Mommy and Daddy and families). Prayers are very short and rhyme. Prayers about behaviors are included in this book such as a couple about being sorry for acting bad and learning to share. The book is small--perfect for tiny hands. This has been one of my very favorite books. I will buy this book for all new moms in the future. I definitely recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
