I bought this book on a whim while purchasing another book for my son. I am so glad that I did! I could barely finish reading, I was crying so much. My son was born a preemie at 24 weeks, and for the longest time, we didn't know if he would have a 'someday'. The only way I was able to survive the 3 1/2 months in NICU, was dreaming of my son's future. This book took all of my thoughts and hopes and put them on paper. The illustrations are breathtaking in their sweet simplicity.

I don't think this is book is just fot the mother/daughter relationsip. It is more for all mothers/fathers and their children. As a mother who intends to read books like 'Little Women' to mmy son, I am not bothered that it pictures a girl instead of a boy. The sentiment is the same. I wish I had found this book while DS was in the hospital. It would have been a wonderful addition to "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss.

I was at babies r us shopping for my first baby and I came across this wonderful book. I picked it up and as I reading it made me cry in the store. It touched me due to two things, it reminded of me and my mother, and it made me think of my son. It was poetic and so beautiful, it is the perfect book for any new mothers. I would of got it right in the store but it was 16 bucks and I knew amazon would have it for cheaper, they always do.

I happened upon this book by chance and as I read it in the store, I began to cry... it really hit a note with me. Simple and beautiful. I bought it and gave it to my 1 year old daughter on her birthday. She doesn't understand it now, of course, but my inscription in the book will be with her as she grows up and I think it'll be a wonderful keepsake and memory for her - that I read this book to her. Of course, I hope one day to get through it without crying...

Can't help but cry.

I heard on the radio that this book is the #1 best selling fiction book (including adult books) of all time. I remember reading it as a kid and now I read it to my son who is eight months. We began reading it at five months and he loves it! I take his hand and run it accross the little holes. I bought the toy seperatlly and he loves that too...

I love this book!

My only qualm is that the book should be a bit bigger so the caterpillar toy can actually eat his way through all the foods... never mind, my two year old adores it anyway.

I love this story, so I had to get this set for my 6 month old baby. He loves the little stuffed caterpillar that comes with it, and he reaches for the book. Everyone knows this story, and putting it in a board book for little ones just makes it even better!

Well made hard page book and the included pluch catepillar is really nicely detailed. My ten month old will love looking at and playing with the book. I'll enjoy reading it to her. The plush is really nice but small, I would not give it to a baby unsupervised, but it's a nice addition to the gift set.

My 9-month-old loves these books! The flaps make them interactive and the illustrations are very colorful. Also, there are a variety of nationalities included. I highly recommend them (but be sure to supervise since it would be easy to bend or tear the flaps).

My daughter loves Karen Katz books and will bring the whole box over to us to read many times a day. Some of the flaps are tearing off, but that's because she carries them around by the flaps sometimes. She loves the colors and the babies!

My daughter likes all of Karen Katz's lift the flap books, but this one isn't the greatest of topics for a 1-yr-old. Plus it perpetuates gender stereotypes. Even though the kid in the story is gender-neutral, the daddy is all about tools and building stuff.

Great book - unfortunately arrived damaged

My son LOVES this book. It's strictly a book my husband reads to him and you can hear him shriek with excitement when this book comes out in the bedtime reading rotation. Unfortunately, the book arrived with one of the lift-up flaps torn off. Otherwise this book is great!

We love Karen Katz's books at our house -- the illustrations are adorable, they're just the right length for our 1-year-old son's attention span, and he LOVES to open the little flaps.

Just two small complaints:

First, I really wish the flaps on these books were a little sturdier. My son has already ripped one off. *Sniffle* (This goes for ALL lift-the-flap board books, by the way!)

Second, has anyone else noticed that the first page reads, "first we saw the wood," and the next page says, "Then we measure the wood"? This drives my husband INSANE! Every time he reads this to our son, he reads the second page first, so that our son learns he should measuring things before he cuts them, not vice versa ;)

I am a dad of a 2 years old boy.
This workbook has a simple and fun material which is exactly for kids around 2. I felt it's a bit pricy for what it has, but I am generally satisfied with this book since it's hard to find this kind of books for this age.

Excellent preschool activity book!

My 4 year old son loved this book. He did every page within a few weeks! Its more than just cutting... you cut things out or parts of things on page to make clever little things. I 100% recommend this. We also ordered Lets Fold, which we like and also give five stars. But, Let's Cut, is the best by far.

I purchased two of these books for my two 3 yr. old boys. They have really enjoyed them. We do about one project a day most days from this and several pages of My First Book Of Tracing (Kumon Workbooks) for their "homework" The first few days were kinda crazy and one of them actually cut the palm of my hand. They just wanted to cut whatever (and draw wherever on the other book) I thought these were a horrible idea until the third day. Both of them seemed to finally understand what was going on and settled down. Now they look forward to it. We made rockets today and they "flew" them all over the house! I also now have a rule that after we do our work properly, we can cut other paper however we want. That has been very successful. In regards to the actual workbook - the paper quality is very high which makes holding the paper easier. It doesn't flop around. It is also shiny and slick so you can tape and remove tape with out damaging the picture. The colors are bright and very appealing to my children. I am very happy with this product.

This book was another accidental find in our library, a present from our library-sale loving friend. I love reading this story to my daughter (22 months at the time of this review), and I enjoy its rhythm and its illustrations. The story is a little long for a toddler, Anna usually loses interests after the letters fall off the tree, but she enjoys saying out of the blue, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! ... Enough room? when she is playing with something else. Those little wheels in her head are obviosly turning :)

This is a regular addition to our bedtime reading collection for our two sons (ages 5 and 4). The book is colorful, fast and fun to read.

Both of my kids already know their ABCs but that doesn't prevent them from enjoying this book and giggling like mad as they read these lines:

"Skit skat skoodle doot. Flip flop flee..."

"mamas and papas and uncles and aunts..."

I love it, younger niece loves it

The older niece (5) has recently stopped liking this book, and will leave the room when I read it. Not sure what's up with that, she used to like it well enough. Her little sister, though, will stand by her desire to have it read when *normally* she caves to Big Sister Pressure.

This book has a very bouncy rhythm and tune (if you know the tune), and very colorful illustrations. It's just fun to read, and it's quick, too.

I definitely recommend it to young kids, especially any in the age where they're learning about letters.

What a FUN book! My two-year-old son loves this book and I love to read it to him. The words have a great cadence and I find myself singing each page! The pictures are very primitive which is nice (no sensory overload) and it helps young children to learn their alphabet. The story is super cute and the author uses great imagery. Although the illustrations are primitive, you can imagine these letters racing up the coconut tree! It's a wonderful book for any child's collection!

I Never Tire of Reading This Book

Of all the books I received as baby gifts, this book has had the longest lifespan. It was my daughter's favorite book as soon as she was old enough to turn regular pages, and almost a year later, it still is. Unlike shorter board books which become very repetitive, this book still has poems that seem "fresh" to me. Everytime we read it's a different experience, depending how many pages we turn at a time. It can be a short book or a long book, depending on the day. The illustrations are incredibly detailed. Even after what seems like a thousand reads, I'm finding clever twists and recognizing characters from elsewhere in the book. This book is a classic and offers lots of bang for your buck.

When my kids were small, I went into a "Mother Goose" kick. I bought and checked out from the Library every Mother Goose I could find, we read them all, and THIS was by far our favorite. The selection of poems was varied, with old favorites and new poems I'd never heard from my childhood as well. The illustrations are beautiful and very fun, Rosemary Wells knows just how kids minds work!

This is a very good book, but it's not quite what I'd imagined. Most of the rhymes were not familiar to me. The illustrations are beautiful, though, and it's fun to read. We enjoy it, but if I had seen it before buying, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

My very favorite Mother Goose book

Review Date: 2007-01-25
Publisher's Weekly called this book "exuberant" and that's exactly the right word for it. Bright primary colors make up this book, and Rosemary Wells' adorable characters populate the rhymes. Unlike some Mother Goose books, this one is meaty -- it boasts 108 pages, with a rhyme on almost every page. That's a lot of nights of Mother Goose at bedtime.

Nursery rhymes help build phonological awareness, an important pre-reading skill. Research has actually shown that children who memorize nursery rhymes go on to become better readers than those who do not.

This book makes a great baby gift, and a terrific birthday or holiday gift for a toddler or preschooler. It's the one I grab first when I recommend nursery rhymes to library visitors.

This book is nicely written. I was a little concerned because some of the other 'what to expect' series books try to girlfriend you a bit too much and they were a turn off for me. But, this book is straight forward. It is written in language that is easily understood by a preschooler. I wish it had more of a story line however I think that any parent would find this book useful and a good opener for a discussion about preschool.
