This is a great book/CD! I am a speech therapist and use it with many different types of special needs young children. No matter what has been going on before, as soon as I put in this CD the children are all engaged.
This is great to use if you are doing a transportation unit too!

So much fun

This is a great interactive book. I work at a Pre-school for special needs students and we have music every Friday we use this book and the children love it. One of our teachers uses it in her class on a regualr basis. What a fun way to get the children involved and recognizing different vehicles and the sounds they make.

Like Taback's "I Know an Old Lady...", the illustrations in this book are wonderfully detailed.

I read this to my Kindergarten class every year, they enjoy the repetitive prose and can relate to trick-or-treating with their friends.

Good math skill reinforcer, too!

Not a sticker book

This is a cute little Halloween counting story. However, it is not a sticker book. It is just a book with a page of stickers. The stickers are pictures from the story, but there is no place to put them in the book.

A fun way to teach shapes to your little one. I thought the images in this book were not as good as they could have been, but all in all another good book by DK.

Toddlers really seem to be drawn to the Touch and Feel books. It's a unique way for them to learn and they enjoy it!

Too Repetitive

My son is only 5 months old, and he seems like picking up all the book-like objects, so I don't know if he is especially interested in this book or not.

As a parent's opinion, I like the different texture it offers to my kid to touch in the book, that's why I have bought quite some "touch and feel" style books for my baby. But I find this less perfect.

I find this book not too creative and imaginative. They always use "buttons" as one of the examples of many shapes. For example, when they introduce circle, there are buttons; when they introduce square, there are buttons; and even heart shape, there are buttons. They could have chosen a greater variety of objects.

"Cushion" is another object that appears a lot. In both the square and in the star shape sections, there are cushions. I think they could have at least use star fish instead of cushion in the star shape section. That will help the kids to learn more about different things besides different shapes.

Not their best...

This Dk touch and feel book is not their best. It feels like they just slapped a few ideas together and didn't really try to come up with real-life, meaningful texture examples. I agree with the other reviewer who said it was repetitive; it is! Enough with the buttons already! Plus, the textures seem forced, like the best idea they had for "fluffy" is a pencil case? and "shiny" is a star that feels bumpy? The examples don't seem relevant to a baby's world.

This is our second touch & feel book and my son really enjoys the new textures introduced in this book. Not neccesarily the best touch & feel book out there, but still decent.

Not the best prep for school book out there

I bought this book to prepare my 3-year-old for preschool. While the pictures are cute and colorful, it is not written for her age (maybe for a one-yr-old). Not much content at all to explain to her what school is all about. I think we read it once or twice, and she hasn't asked to look at it again. Go with "DW's Guide to Preschool" instead - you won't be disappointed.

My son's favorite book of all time!

My son Ben, who is about to go into 2nd grade, calls this his favorite book of all time. He is especially fond of the illustrations - and we have even decided that we should frame the dustcover! That is a pretty ringing endorsement from a 7 year old!

We plan to buy all of the books in the "Mouse" series over the next year. Perhaps we will buy them in order of seasons/holidays.

My 4 year old loves this book. She actually listens to it and remembers it. She answers the questions and understands what they mean. It's amazing! This is the best devotional for young children. I recommend this book for every young child in this age group. I even bought one of other books for my 10 year old (God and Me 10-12 year old devotional). She really enjoys it as well.

Excellent for little girls!

Love the book - we read it every night (or almost!) My daughter is 3 and she barely understands the questions at the end. I'd recommend the ages really be 3-5 or 4-5. When we're done we'll probably just start it all over agin at the beginning.

Can we do the white book?

Every night my girls (4 and 6) look forward to "doing the white book". God and Me is great for teaching lessons of character to young children. I then let my girls color the corresponding activity page together. It is wonderful seeing them learn to cooperate with each other as they decide who will color what. I highly recommend this book. I plan on getting the rest in the series as they get older, then purchasing another copy of this one when my two younger daughters turn 2 and 4. It is well worth the money. You can then give the book to a grandparent as a keepsake, when your daughter is done coloring it all.

I bought this for my 7 year old when she was about 2 or 3. Now my twin 3 year olds love this book. The nice thing is that you do'nt have to be able to read. The book shows you a picture of the things you are to find. It does have a number by the picture so if you are to find 3 birds, it will have the number 3 next to the picture. I also have other titles with the same format. I am very happy with this book.

Fantastic Book on so Many Levels

This book is truly inspired. I would say this book would be great from the age your child can be gentle with paper books. In our house this became a hit around 18 months and by her second birthday our daughter would choose this book to look at by herself, counting and naming the animals. The book has fun little extras, too, like animals on each page that aren't listed, a scavenger hunt, enlarged pictures of parts of animals (children have to match those to the pictures of the whole animals), and big bold numbers next to sample pictures of each animal so that children needn't know how to read more than numbers to follow the book. Each page shows a different habitat which is really interesting to children. I would agree with the reviewer below that this book could appeal to much older children as well, since the book covers a broad range of animal species and not just the ubiquitous elephant, tiger, etc. Our one complaint is the use of the term Killer Whale instead of the currently preferred Orca. (The orca is a member of the dolpin family and not the whale family.)

my 3 year old loves it

Its my daughter's favorite book...and we read alot of books. She's 3 1/2 yrs old and has learned how to count very effectively with this book, which wasn't my original intent but hey it's an added bonus. I enjoy finding the animals with her!

This is a wonderful book that my daughter really enjoys. Each page is filled with animals around the world: On the farm, On safari, In the desert, In the Artic, In the woods, In the ocean, In the rainforest, In the garden, In the outback, In the swamp, In the mountains, By the sea, Children's farm. Each section features a beautiful scene filled with a number of animals. Your child's vocabulary will grow quickly - the book differeniates between cows and calves, for example. It pictures a great variety of animals, not just the animals you normally see featured in books. I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend this for children 2 and up.

I disagree with the "baby-preschool" description of this book. I think it's a little too busy for babies, and I also think children in the early grades would really enjoy finding the animals on each page. (I used to teach fourth grade, and I think this would even enthrall a lot of early-mid elementary aged kids as well.) Every page shows a different setting, and it gives a number of how many animals of each kind that you are supposed to spot. Kids spend time finding all of the animals on each page, and they are also counting and learning about habitats as well. My four-year-old son spent HOURS looking at this book by himself, even though he couldn't yet read the animals' names and needed me to help him with that part. (That's part of why I think the baby-preschool label is way too limiting; older kids who can actually read the animal names might enjoy it even more for quiet examination.) The drawings are very kid-friendly -- they are realistic even though they have a picture book vibe to them. We really loved this book.
