My 4 year old loves this book. She actually listens to it and remembers it. She answers the questions and understands what they mean. It's amazing! This is the best devotional for young children. I recommend this book for every young child in this age group. I even bought one of other books for my 10 year old (God and Me 10-12 year old devotional). She really enjoys it as well.

Love the book - we read it every night (or almost!) My daughter is 3 and she barely understands the questions at the end. I'd recommend the ages really be 3-5 or 4-5. When we're done we'll probably just start it all over agin at the beginning.

Every night my girls (4 and 6) look forward to "doing the white book". God and Me is great for teaching lessons of character to young children. I then let my girls color the corresponding activity page together. It is wonderful seeing them learn to cooperate with each other as they decide who will color what. I highly recommend this book. I plan on getting the rest in the series as they get older, then purchasing another copy of this one when my two younger daughters turn 2 and 4. It is well worth the money. You can then give the book to a grandparent as a keepsake, when your daughter is done coloring it all.

I bought this for my 7 year old when she was about 2 or 3. Now my twin 3 year olds love this book. The nice thing is that you do'nt have to be able to read. The book shows you a picture of the things you are to find. It does have a number by the picture so if you are to find 3 birds, it will have the number 3 next to the picture. I also have other titles with the same format. I am very happy with this book.

This book is truly inspired. I would say this book would be great from the age your child can be gentle with paper books. In our house this became a hit around 18 months and by her second birthday our daughter would choose this book to look at by herself, counting and naming the animals. The book has fun little extras, too, like animals on each page that aren't listed, a scavenger hunt, enlarged pictures of parts of animals (children have to match those to the pictures of the whole animals), and big bold numbers next to sample pictures of each animal so that children needn't know how to read more than numbers to follow the book. Each page shows a different habitat which is really interesting to children. I would agree with the reviewer below that this book could appeal to much older children as well, since the book covers a broad range of animal species and not just the ubiquitous elephant, tiger, etc. Our one complaint is the use of the term Killer Whale instead of the currently preferred Orca. (The orca is a member of the dolpin family and not the whale family.)

This is a wonderful book that my daughter really enjoys. Each page is filled with animals around the world: On the farm, On safari, In the desert, In the Artic, In the woods, In the ocean, In the rainforest, In the garden, In the outback, In the swamp, In the mountains, By the sea, Children's farm. Each section features a beautiful scene filled with a number of animals. Your child's vocabulary will grow quickly - the book differeniates between cows and calves, for example. It pictures a great variety of animals, not just the animals you normally see featured in books. I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend this for children 2 and up.

I disagree with the "baby-preschool" description of this book. I think it's a little too busy for babies, and I also think children in the early grades would really enjoy finding the animals on each page. (I used to teach fourth grade, and I think this would even enthrall a lot of early-mid elementary aged kids as well.) Every page shows a different setting, and it gives a number of how many animals of each kind that you are supposed to spot. Kids spend time finding all of the animals on each page, and they are also counting and learning about habitats as well. My four-year-old son spent HOURS looking at this book by himself, even though he couldn't yet read the animals' names and needed me to help him with that part. (That's part of why I think the baby-preschool label is way too limiting; older kids who can actually read the animal names might enjoy it even more for quiet examination.) The drawings are very kid-friendly -- they are realistic even though they have a picture book vibe to them. We really loved this book.

A good description of how a road is made. This book is attractive with simple but accurate illustrations, and charming rhymes with "sound" words. I appreciated that there are a few female workers in the pictures. I bought it for a 3 year old, but I think it is too young for her - it will go to the younger one who is not yet two who will enjoy it for some time to come. Reading level may be 4-8, but appropriate age is younger.

A good friend of mine introduced me to Maisy books when I was pregnant with my first child. I have spread the wealth to all the other new moms in my acquaintance. Babies and toddlers LOVE these books. The characters are sweet, the illustrations are appealing, and the flaps are so much fun! Best of all, they are reasonably priced, so they are a good addition to baby shower gift bags. Note: make sure when you purchase that you get "lift the flap" books. Some Maisy books do not have flaps, but my kids prefer the flap versions hands down.

My 13 months old girl loves this book. Personally, I would like to see some repetitive phrases like "No, not here" on the flaps right before they introduce the sound of the animals so that it will reinforce "Yes/No" concept as well.

If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world.
Both of my daughters love the Maisy books; there's something about their simple stories and colorful pictures that even appeals to adults. The books are short and easy to read. But, the stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children.
This is a lift the flap book in which the childen are lifting flaps trying to figure out where Maisy lives. Naturally, we don't find out untilt he end of the book (hey, it would ruin the plot to reveal earlier, right?). One caution, the kids might get a little aggressive with the flaps and tear a few, resulting in the purchase of a new lift the flap book.

This book is, like Wilson Sanger's other books, a lot of fun. The rhymes are a pleasure to read aloud, and the pictures are clever. We love to introduce the kids to a variety of foods/cultures, and this book is a great way to do just that. Because we're not Jewish, we can't vouch for the authenticity of the depictions. She does include a pronunciation guide for us Gentiles in the back - much appreciated. Both of my kids (now 5 and 2) love these books. It's fun to start out the last rhyme by saying, "Today my tummy says: let's nosh," and hearing them finish "on lots and lots of matzoh!"

I like this series for kids. It's a nice way to get kids curious about foods from different cultures, different ethnicities.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of the others, but that may just reflect the fact that Jewish cooking isn't as good as other cultural foods. We may be the only ethnic group that doesn't find comfort in our own comfort foods, at least that's my take on it, for numerous reasons, some of which I will respectfully not go into, as they are not flattering to my family.
But still, a nice book, a nice series. If you are fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood with a good variety of ethnic restaurants, and fortunate enough to have children with temperaments conducive to public dining, these books are a nice supplement to the feast.

My grandson loves the Carol King record "Really Rosie" and I was thrilled to be able to buy three of the books that coordinate with the C.D. that includes "One Was Johnny". The illustrations are darling, and we love to sing the whole book. I recently ordered two additional sets of this book along with "Pierre" and "Alligators All Around". They're all delightful.

Unlike so many dull counting books (and their companion dull alphabet books), this book has a quirky attitude all its own. "One" shows Johnny happy alone, reading a book; as we count upward, a number of raucous animals and even a robber invade his home. We start to count down when Johnny threatens his uninvited guests, "I'm going to count backwards and when I am through/If this house isn't empty, I'll eat all of you!" My 16-month-old son loves it & so do I. I wish they made this in board book form.

This is a great book with one to ten -- unlike many, its forwards and backwards. The illustrations are classic Sendak -- a kooky little kid, and crazy animal friends. Nine arrive, and to get back to his solitude, Johnny counts backwards to make them leave. There are a lot of cute counting books out there, but this one has a twist no one else has picked up. The story line is nonsensical enough to hold interest for a long time.

I got this book for my daughter when she was about 18 months old, and she loved it. Each page has an engaging drawing and a simple sentence about what friends do together (e.g., laugh, sing, play, share). My daughter especially enjoyed doing the sound effects written on each page (e.g., "hahaha", "lalala", and so on), and we would talk about friends in her life that she had done these various fun things with. It was a very nice book to read together, very interactive.
