My two year old son loves this book! The sound words in it are so much fun and he laughs every time we read it! If you have toddlers who like to listen to you read, this is a great book. It's also repetitive and predictable which is good for the little ones.

This was purchased for my 4 year old granddaughter who is just beginning to read. She loves monkeys and this book is about a little girl with her dear monkey friend that goes everywhere with her. Big pictures and a little text make for a good book for preschool children.

My daughter is two and she absolutely loves this book. She imitates the animals, just like the little girl in the book, she "reads" each page with a different voice (for example, she does the elephant page in a very low voice), and the book's rhythm and short sentences suit little kids VERY well. The are some details in these "simple" pictures that you don't notice at first (just watch the monkey's face!) -- it takes time to notice it all, and it's fun to watch your kid slowly grasp it all. The fact that it's not very colorful has never been a problem for us, in fact, I actually think that my toddler benefits from concentrating on things other than just color. All in all, I highly recommend this book.

Simple story, but nothing special I'm afraid. A little girl takes her stuffed monkey to see other animals like elephants and eventually monkeys, imitating each animal, then falls asleep. The illustrations are cute, but not very colorful or engaging for the youngest picture book audience.

Emily Gravett, Monkey and Me (Simon and Schuster, 2007)
I've been waiting for Emily Gravett to come up with another book as shocking and delightful as Wolves every since I first discovered it; while she hasn't yet done that, seeing the stuff she's done since has always been at least satisfying. It educates without being overbearing, the drawings are chock full of fun little details, and it's as fun to read to the kid as it is for the kid to hear. ****

I purchased this book for my 3 year old's birthday, but also for my two older boys, ages 8 & 10. My 10 year old picked it up right away and started to read it. I think it gives a great analogy of the Holy Trinity and how it is compared to an apple and it's wholeness. It has very simple pictures, simple text and uses a lot or repetition, which I find very useful for younger children. I myself sometimes wondered about the whole Jesus/God/Real Human Being, this book explains in simple terms the flesh, the body and faith. I also think it will be very useful tool for my kindergarten religion class. Very good!

This is an excellent resource to help teach children and well as adults about the the Trinity of God.....the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The book uses excellent illustrations explained in a child like manner that anyone can understand.
I've used this little book for years in Vacation Bible School for children and in adult Bible studies to help simply and explain the Godhead-3 in 1.
Every Christian should have a copy of this in their library.

The Trinity is a difficult concept for adults to figure out. It is more difficult for children who do not have the years of experience and language usage that aduklts have. This book is a concrete example to explain the Trinity to children. I highly recommend it to folks of all ages.

Walt Disney's 101 Dalmatians
101 Dalmatians is a very good book. Its about 15 puppies that get kidnapped by a cruel Cruella Di Vil. They are tooken to her mansion where there were a lot more dalmatians. They then go through a lot of trouble getting home. I think that any age of kids would like this book. I really like how Pongo and Perdita save there kids. I think that this book teaches kids that if they steal that bad things will happen.

We recieved Slinky Malinky as a gift last year and read it so many times that the book fell apart! All of these books (any Slinky Malinky and Hairy McClary) have the cutest stories about mis-behaving animals interacting with each other and wreaking havoc for the humans in their lives. The illustrations are great and the stories are short enough that my one year old and three year old can both sit and enjoy them. I highly recommend any of the books in this series. They are just adorable.

Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy is peppy and bouncy and looking for fun. But what he really wants is something to chase and for a dog that often means cats. Hairy Maclary begins his rampage.
Through the course of the book we are introduced to quite a few of the local feline community. But they are all quickly chased away with only slight effort and no real chance for a good chase. But then Hairy Maclary spots one more twitching tale and a long chase ensues. But who is chasing who?
My kids love the Hairy Maclary books with its colorful illustrations, cute and funny animals, lyrical verse and plenty of fun. This one is somewhat reminiscent of the first in the series (HAIRY MACLARY FROM DONALDSON'S DAIRY) but still fresh and a delight. Some of these cats are truly adorable even to do fanciers. Check it out.

We've been reading this, the hairy MacLary and other Lynley Dodd books for 5 years now....started when my son was about 18 months, and still going strong! There is as much in the language for a 6 year old starting to read on their own as for the shared experience with younger children.
Lynley Dodd and Margaret Mahy MUST be New Zealand National Treasures.

This is a delightful book, the language is great and the pictures wonderful. Most of Lynley Dodd's regular characters such as Slinki Malinki and Scarface Claw make an appearance as Hairy Maclary bounces along through the pages in a boisterous mood. I love reading this one to my three year old niece. The words have a real rhythm to them and the story has just enough suspense to keep little ones interested. I have not yet read a Lynley Dodd book that I don't like - but this one is a real favourite!

We started off by purchasing the Cd known as "Baby Loves Jazz" and were thoroughly pleased by the performance of the musicians and the catchy tunes that caused my three children to dance about the living room.
We recently purchased the Louis the Lion book w/CD...and as far as I can tell from my wifes and children reaction, it is also another 'out of the park homerun'.
The book is a great product and very colorful...all of the songs are great too. One thing I would have liked is to have the songs work in conjunction with the pages of the book.
But don't let that dissuade you from making the purchase with confidence of this book. You will have a romp roaring good time!

This series is wonderful! Our two-year-old absolutely loves the Baby Loves Jazz series. We bought a few to start out, then ended up buying the whole set. Two months after acquiring them, she is still enamored and requests to listen to them and read them every day. Her favorites? Well, these are the words we hear most often: "Mommy, read Duck and Miles?" or "Daddy, listen to Duck and Miles?" Philly Joe is also high on the list. I recommend them all. The books stand out on their own, but the music is what makes this series really shine. For example, on Duck Ellington's CD, he does a great Monk style on one track, then switches to great impression of Coltrane's classic quartet on the next track, with a very nice McCoy Tyner impression. Lots of variety and high quality make this series worthwhile (though I could have done without Louis Lion's potty tune). Don't forget the Go Baby Go CD as well (a stand-alone CD without a book), which is perhaps a notch above the music on the book CDs. The ABC tune is her favorite on that one.
a wonderful book! and a great CD as well...

I bought this book for my ~2.5 year old daughter. We simply read the book first and didn't play the CD right away. The book in itself is really cute, and it soon became one of my daughters favorite bedtime books to pick out. It features Louis Lion who is a singer in a jazz band, and how he comes home after singing with his band to see his lion sons and put them to bed. It is nice in that it goes through (and enforces) things to do before going to bed... they brush their teeth, take a bath, put on their pajamas, etc. Then he sings them a lullaby, which features some nice imagery and great illustrations. When we first got this book, may daughter wanted me to read it three times in a row each night. We've had it for a few months, and she still loves to read it. The illustrations overall are really fun, colorful, and engaging. After loving this book so much, I went out and bought most of the rest of this series. I think this may be our favorite by far, though.
We just started to play the CD, and played it when she was taking a bath. She loved it. CDs from the other books are not quite as fun as this one, and there is a fun bath-time song as well on this CD so it worked out well we played it during that time. Now, she always asks for me to play this CD when we go to take a bath and get ready for bed.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book, especially to anyone with toddlers/preschoolers.

I grew up with these poems; it's the first book I ever read by myself. The poems are truly beautiful and catchy. Sometimes I'll find myself mumbling the bathtime poems as I turn the shower on or the woolly blanket poem when curled up on the couch. I was ecstatic when I saw that they had re-released this book. My family's original copy was so well-read the pages were falling out. However, when we compared the books side to side we discovered that there were quite a few poems missing from the new edition! Fuzzy Wuzzy, New Shoes, and quite a few others were absent. I'm not sure whether they couldn't get the rights to them, or if they thought that the book would be too large because it's a hardboard, but it was truly a disappointment. I'm still glad for the copy and I look forward to sharing the poems with my future children, but I'll always have a nagging feeling, knowing that there's many wonderful poems omitted. Regardless, the book is beautifully illustrated and the poems are quite pleasing. A definite must-have for any parent or parent-to-be.
A charming book of poems for children

I initially picked up this book in a bookstore because of the beautiful illustrations. I have since bought several as presents for friends and family. It is an anthology of poems, so some of the poems are better than others, but on the whole the selection is very nice.
My son, who is now 2 and a half years old, knows 3 or 4 of these poems by heart and loves to hear his favorites when a related subject comes up during the day. For example, Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Swing" when we are at the park. This book is a lovely way to introduce appreciation for rhyming, rythmic language and general literary beauty.
Enjoy!
