Shalom family of God,
This is an amazing book I wish I had found it when I was a new believer, would have saved me much heartache and religiosity. This book unlocks so much on how to read scriptures and provides incredible insight into our Hebraic roots and assists the believer to understand why Jesus spoke and taught the way he did. AMAZING BOOK. I hope the authors gets a mighty blessing and more revelations from God for all their research of TRUTH and for passing it unto us. Some words are explained in detail and sets us free from a lot of false doctrines & puzzle. To all believers: get the book NOW and read it at least 3 times with prophetic understanding. I hope to see a 2nd book by the same authors soon. To the authors please do not stop, you are well appreciated, keep pressing into Jesus-Christ and a BIG thank you. Brigitte.

This book, while it does contain some insightful information, is not the best ever written. Within the first thirty pages, the authors contradict themselves two different times when discussing languages. Their choice of dialogue lead me to believe this book is geared for a specific audience: Children. Their language and audience perception is geared very low, and has remnants of a middle school text book. Throughout the book, they lean more towards a conservative Christian perception of the subject with each page.

I was hoping for an unbiased overview, not someone's opinion on how God sees Nephilim, or a lesson in languages and comparisons. I guess I'll have to keep looking.

This book is fascinating, and helped me to better understand the details of God's love for us, and his desire to bring us closer to him. My understanding is that the Jewish race is to be a light unto the nations, and this book shows how by following God's direction given to His people, we can find our way home through the darkness of this world. Even if you hold to a different opinion, the information is written in an informative and interesting style and is well worth the price.

A wonderful book that unites the Hebraic and Christian roots into a solid foundation. A wonderful engrafting of both worlds. I did find the title of this book to be misleading since the majority of the contents of this book was not about devils and demons but more so an exegetical study of both covenants. Only one chapter was dedicated to the title giving the impression it was more of a marketing angle than anything. I do recommend this book to any serious student of the Word of God.

The answer to my prayor - a new relationship with Jesus

This book was not so much about Nephilim but more about a relationship with Jesus. As it turns out this book may be one of the most important books I've ever read. A wake up call and answer to my prayor for direction. If you ever asked yourself what or how your relationship with Jesus should be after your saved - this is your answer. I've read everything they referenced in this book - but not in the proper context. Our relationship with Jesus as defined in the proper context makes sense and is something to get excited about.

Liz Curtis Higgs' Bad Girls of the Bible series is second to none, and in my opinion the audio is even better than the book, because Liz is the reader. She's an accomplished speaker and the injections of humor are so well done. I also enjoyed the audio of "Bad Girls of the Bible" although it was abridged, and I hope Liz will eventually do an audiobook of "Really Bad Girls of the Bible."
Liz brings these women to life and shows that although they and we are separated by many centuries, we're quite a bit alike. There's much we modern-day women can learn from those ancient girls and their trials and tribulations, and in the process, we can strengthen our own relationship with God.

Slightly Bad Girls leaves you hungering to learn more

This was my first Bad Girls of the Bible book to read. I must say it wasn't what I expected. I learned a lot more about the women of the Bible than I knew which means Liz does good research. I have taught for 40 plus years children and my teaching would have been different had I had all the background information and was able to compare it to today.
I especially loved the way she brought it to how modern women today would be like those of old. I loved the fact that God can love flawed women and men as far as that goes. Because you learn also of the flaws of the men of God too. You learn they weren't perfect but yet God loved them.
However Leah and Rachel left me wondering why God blessed Leah more than Rachel - an answer that still plagues me.
As a Bible teacher, Liz has left me hungering to research and learn more about these women. It seems most all Bible teaching at church is focused at men and on men in the Bible. The women are left unseen and even men could profit from understanding the women of the Bible. After all it might help them relate to their wives.

I love Kay. She always seeks to make real-world applications. She does this so well for adults, I was curious to see how she would do with kids. In summary--not quite as well.

This book could be better described as "How to teach your kids the Bible". It has wonderful precepts and concepts, but these will be better used by adults FOR young children than BY those children.

Teens will be OK with these concepts, but I doubt a teenager would pick up a book with this cover.

If you have teenagers who are really into specific books of the bible, I would suggest (for Revelation at least) "Dragons, Grasshoppers & Frogs!".

For general bible study for teens, I think "What the Bible is all About" by H. Mears would be a better choice.

Again--Kay's precepts and concepts here are great. They are just a bit above the level of the audience for which they are directed.

This book has great content. My group of thirteen 5th graders is enjoying the book a great deal. However, the teacher needs to be smart about how to take concepts that are WAY above the heads of this age group and make them understandable. I wasn't too impressed with the books explanations. Using only the book I still got blank stares back from my group. An example of this would be the importance of historical, geographical, and cultural context. The book gave abstract examples that were not helpful to the kids. It took some time and some more age relevant examples for the kids to get those concepts. With that said, I still think this book is worthy of consideration.

My wife and children (ages 12 and 10) have been using the book and they just love it. I have used the inductive Bible study method through Intensive Care Ministries (Dan Finfrock) as well as Hendricks' Bible study Living by the Book and this book is better than the latter and almost as good as the former. Kay Aurther and Janna Arndt have created a wonderful resource to help children understand the Inductive Bible Study Method. Although the different colors and pictures can be intimidating the basic method and message of the book is very good.

This is an extremely helpful work on the topic. It is both scholarly and friendly to the reader. The author takes a position while at the same time objectively presenting opposing views. Exercises are included for the reader as well as the teacher who wants to get the class involved. An instructor's companion CD is available through Baker Academic which is extremely valuable if you plan to teach from the text.
In short, this book has become a treasure in my library and I am grateful to Henry Virkler and Karelynne Gerber Ayayo for writing it (and revising it - 2nd edition). Thank you both.

I found the research to be sound and extensive.

Indespensible Edition for the Koine Student

Review Date: 2008-09-20
After struggling with Plato, Sophocles, and Aristotle, Biblical Greek is a simple and profound joy. The forms are less complicated and more regular. The content remains profound. Reading the New Testament in Greek has never been more fun nor simpler than with the aid of this edition.

Translation: This edition has two: interlinear (parallel with the Greek) and the NRSV in the margins. Both are excellent. The interlinear translation helps identify obscure phrases and idioms and the NRSV is a wonderful aid to shaping one's translation. That said, the NRSV's only negative qualities are in its "gender-inclusive" language, rendering "brothers and sisters" for "adelphoi". This may bother some, inserting a meaning that is not literally present in the original, but otherwise the NRSV is impeccably accurate to the best of my knowledge.

Aesthetics: This is a big deal for a Greek NT. If the Greek font is ugly (take the revolting UBS font, for example) it can really kill the mood. But this Greek font is gorgeous and a pleasure to read. Likewise, all type, though small, is clear and easy on the eyes.

Durability: Exceptionally well-bound. The hardcover binding is sewn and withstands tremendous abuse. However, the pages are onionskin-thin, so turn them carefully.

Size: Ideal. Large enough to place on a desk and use as a translation exercise, small enough to plop in your lap and read for hours. 913 pages are condensed into an inch of volume, but it's never overwhelming. This is a perfectly sized volume for study or reading.

Price: Unmatchable. All combined factors above rate a price only a hair above fifteen dollars. If you wanted an interlinear New Testament, what on earth are you waiting for? Wait no longer! This is the best interlinear this amount of money can buy. Period.

Excellent Choice, regardless of your translation of choice

A good interlinear English translation of the Greek New Testament is possibly one of the three or four essential tools for serious New Testament study, along with a superior New Testament Theological dictionary and a good New Testament Greek - English lexicon. I have used two, `The New Greek - English Interlinear New Testament', translated by Robert K. Brown and Philip W. Comfort, with the marginal NRSV translation and `The Interlinear NASB - NIV Parallel New Testament in Greek and English' translated by Alfred Marshall. I originally bought both thinking that I would want one for each of the two primary scholarly translations, the NIV and the NRSV. In the end, I discovered that neither marginal translation in these editions held any value for me whatsoever, since I will certainly have my Bible translation of choice open while using the interlinear translation anyway. I am also just a bit concerned that Marshall does not clearly announce which version of the Greek text he is using. Brown and Comfort use the United Bible Societies' Fourth Corrected Edition / Novum Testamentum Graece, 27th edition.
What is really important, I discovered, especially for a Greek newbie like me is that the second of these two has significantly larger print for both the English and the Greek, and it is therefore far easier to find the verse I am seeking, when in search of a particular word. Added to this the fact that Brown and Comfort place both chapter and verse numbers at the start of every verse makes the passage in question even easier to find. Marshall may also have some value if you are partial to the NRSV and you don't have an NIV translation, this is a way to satisfy two needs with one book, except that the marginal translations in Marshall are even harder to read than the Greek and interlinear translation.
Marshall's text is not without its virtues, although I consult it rarely. The first is that the NASB and NIV marginal translations are divided by titles dividing the sections, just as you may find in a study bible. This makes it just a bit easier to zero in on the 8 - 16 verses you are looking for, since the headings, such as Luke's `The Parable of the Tenants' is so distinctive. Both volumes also include notes from the NASB, NIV, and NRSV translators, however, I don't use these either, since the same notes are in my NRSV study bible, and, again, my primary objective is simply to find THE EXACT Greek word used in a particular context. From there, I can do my own research in the dictionaries. So, regardless of which English translation you use, I prefer Brown / Comfort for their readability.

Even from a non-religions point of view, Genesis is a valuable piece of literature. Being one of the first texts ever it has had a great influence on our society and is the basis for many of our customs. It isn't the most exciting read, there is a lot of who begot who, but its interesting to see what so many people have put so much faith into.
It is the type of book where you can always look for a deeper meaning, which the footnotes help greatly with, but simply reading it for what it is you're still able to get a lot out of it. Obviously you can's take everything seriously, there are many metaphors used. But many of the stories teach simple morals that still are prevalent today.
With out a doubt you could find a more appealing book to read than Genesis, but its still worth picking up. It been very influential to many people and appears countless times in other pieces of literature, also its short and uses relatively simple language.

Genesis is a difficult read in many ways. The writing style is over a thousand years old, this combined with the density of the material makes it a very time consuming read. The text requires a lot of analyzing and critical thinking while reading. While it is a hard and dense read, in the end it is a very rewarding one. You cannot claim to have an understanding of literature until you have read Genesis. Being one of the first true texts and the guide to life for many, many great novels have drawn connections both to and from it. Robert Alter's translation of one the greatest texts ever written is magnificent. He uses a great deal of footnotes to help in the translation and explain the old Hebrew. Genesis is truly a work of art.

There are hosts of people for whom reading the Bible has been a life-changing experience. Reading this book was a life-changing experience for me as it changed the way I read the Bible.

Alter shows Genesis as a work of literature. This doesn't mean that it holds no timeless truths. Rather the reverse. The fact that Genesis was written with a spirit beyond that found in a mere journalistic account make it more valuable not less.

This is one of those books where in the footnotes are longer than the text. Through these, Alter passes on wisdom from commentators throughout the ages.

The stories of Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Jacob, and Joseph we all remember from Sunday school. Alter's work brings them to life in a way nothing I've seen ever has before. If you revere the Bible, you owe it to yourselve to buy this book.

I use this as an adjuvant to my classes, just to get extra practice. Even though it is oriented to Christian students, the Hebrew is sound for my Jewish studies. One good point: the 'font' size of the Hebrew is large enough that you don't need a magnifying glass to read the vowel points! And the answer key is internet based, which is convenient for juggling page and answer key!

Review Date: 2007-12-21
This workbook is better than the Basics of Biblical Hebrew grammar book. This workbook has many different phrases, sentences, and scripture passages for you to read from, and helps to build a strong foundation in terms of applied Hebrew grammar, and inductive exposure to the language.

There are many inflected verbal forms in this workbook that are not broken down into their stem, tense, person, number, or gender, and all you are given is their inflected definition at the bottom of the page. Treat these words as if they were vocbulary words, and memorize them in their current form.

For example, the Hebrew word "vay-yomer" means "And he said". This is a Hebrew word in the imperfect state with what is called the "vav/waw conversive". However, the workbook does not tell you this information. It only tells you that "vay-yomer" means "and he said". Treat this word as if it were a vocabulary word, and memorize both it's current form and definition. By doing this, you're actually simulating natural learning process. You will be picking up on prefixes, suffixes, and inflected verbal stem forms without actually being formally introduced to them, so that when the time comes to introduce them in your Hebrew grammar study, you will already be familiar with them in an intuitive sense.

If what I said sounds like a bunch of jibberish, I'll put it another way. Suppose a someone said, "Tim went to the store, him will be back later", and you overheard it. Naturally, you know from natural exposure to the English langauge that this is improper grammar. The word "him" is the objective form of "he", while "he" is the subjective form which should be used in place of "him" in the example sentence given. However, we native English speakers don't "think" about making such a transition in our minds. We speak the language based on how we've learned it through natural exposure, and thus we know intuitively to say "he", and not "him" in such instances. The same methodology is applied in this workbook for certain words, especially verbal forms. This is truly important when learning Hebrew because the verbal system in Hebrew can be VERY cumbersome at first glance.

This is one of my all time favorite picture books for all ages. Peter Spiers beautiful illustrations need no words to tell this story. The possibilities for interacting with a child are endless as you wander through the familiar and find the surprising! My granddaughter is 2 years old and loves animals. What could be a better birthday gift?

The happy and humorous tone of this book will make it appealing to any child, whatever the family's religion.

The only text is at the beginning and it is a charming translation of a poem that summarizes the story of Noah. The poem is delightful in and of itself- Spier did a great job of translating.

The illustrations are then left without text, which is very refreshing, since there are so few picture books nowadays. I enjoy leisurely paging through this book with my young daughter, talking about the pictures in and of themselves, as pieces of art and as pictures that tell a story. I feel that the pressure is off in terms of trying to finish a sentence or a story when there is no text there.

In addition, this book is appropriate for Muslim families as well, since the illustrations (and beginning poem) are sufficiently vague as to accommodate for the small differences in the telling of the story in the Qu'ran and the Bible.

My first Peter Spier book. Not saccharine, wonderful details (including Noah mucking out the ark). Great to have a child read to YOU.

Love It!

This is an excellent picture book - my three year old really loves it. My only "complaint" is that it takes a long time to go through all the pictures and talk about each one making it less than ideal right before bed unless you want to spend 20 minutes on just one book! Seriously though - the book is just wonderful and allows parents to go into whatever level of detail regarding the Noah story as they feel is appropriate for the age of their child. It is a softcover and the pages and cover are not of the highest quality - it would be lovely to have in hardcover with larger pages.

This book really does not need any words. It is so well illustrated that you can understand every part of the story. His detailing is stunning. Every time we read this book, we find new details. This is the best book of Noah's ark story!
