Boy, does that title ring true! I also noticed on the cover of this book the wording, "Because that hand in your pocket... isn't yours!" You and I know that everybody wants your money in one form or another. However, I discovered some new ways while reading this book that I just finished. It is Written by David W. Latko, who is the co-host for the national radio program, "Money and More". Impressively, David Latko ranks among the nation's top one percent of financial advisors. I can just imagine how 'in demand' he is. He started off in a middle class neighborhood and moved his way up by helping people.
Where do you usually turn for answers with questions regarding investing, real estate, divorce, automobiles, identity theft, and so much more? If you say your family, friends, neighbors, or your own financial advisor, then you REALLY need to read this book to make sure you are steered on the right path. Looks can be deceiving. Do your homework, starting with this book, because it is YOUR money and YOUR financial future you are looking out for. No one else has such a vested interest in your finances as you need to, except for the slime balls mentioned in this book that you have to watch out for who want your money.
David not only presents practical advice in this book. He also shares memorable stories that yank on the heartstrings and gets your blood boiling. Think you are safe from your own family members who are to inherit your money? Think again and take a look at the story examples in this book. If nothing else, you will at least be aware and prepared just in case.
This book would make great gifts for everyone in your life. What better gift can you give them than to make sure they don't make wrong financial decisions that can destroy their future? I'm going to be buying and giving this book to some of my own family and friends as gifts. I am keeping mine to refer to and share with my children when needed. This book is definitely worth it!
... Story example: Willa and Tony, a retired couple who had a horrific experience with their first financial advisor. They came into some money. They had no idea what to do to invest or what to do.
So they solicited some advice from other retired friends. One of them had received a postcard in the mail a week before, and he passed it along to Tony and Willa. It gave the name and number of a financial advisor who worked in a branch office of a major brokerage which they knew of from hearing about it on TV.
In short order, their new advisor "handled" their prosperity problem. He put them into a range of investments that Willa and Tony did not clearly understand. Then, after a month or so of frenetic activity, he stopped calling-or returning their calls.
With their frustration mounting, they mentioned their problem to a person who happened to be a client of Davids. Turns out the other advisor had locked Willa and Tony into investments that carried staggeringly large up-front commissions; others carried long-term (and expensive) surrender charges.
There was little that could be done. The couple were tied into investments that could not be changed without taking a significant financial hit, in the case of Willa and Tony, it was more than a $26,000 loss.

This book is valuable on so many levels. Not only does David Latko explain those investments such as real estate, and car buying but he also details the financial repercussions of a divorce and its long-term implications.
Latko uses real-life experiences that hit close to home. So many of the problems that he describes are ones that I've encountered or have friends that have encountered them. His advice and knowledge are priceless.
David Latko really knows what he's talking about. This book was an absolute inspiration and savior to me!

David Latko's "Everybody Wants Your Money," skillfully outlines the dos and don'ts of asset management. After reading this book I feel like I've dodged a financial bullet. It is so easy to take the easy way out and do as our advisors recommend without looking at the big picture.
Throughout this book, Latko uses numbers and charts to help visualize his arguments. In this way he effectively shows how the decisions you make today will have an impact on your finances in the coming years.
The advice and wisdom that I took from this book are priceless. He is a master of his field and honestly believes that everyone should make informed decisions.

This book is a kind of compilation of 20 chapters written by a number of different writers with each one being an expert in the time frame which they covered. The book was very informative about when and where in the world people started using money and financing to transact business. Starting in Mesopotamia with the first known transaction with interest around 1820BC. Then moving on through the Roman Empire and the first annuities to the first use of paper currency by the Chinese around 960AD. The origins of stocks and bonds are also covered along with many interesting facts about the fiancing that took place during the Revolutionary War. There is about 4,000 years of economic history represented in this book which a person interested in economics and history will find an interesting read.

William Goetzmann and K. Geert Rouwenhort have provide readers with a most wonderful work. Though clearly a wonderful coffee table book, I had to remove it from there due to IT becoming the center of attention in the room. The content is completely well done with beautiful photos and flowing prose. For those interested in gaining a keener understanding of how value developed as the economic force we all contend with today, take a look at this great work! Very well done indeed!
Excellent essays on the history of financial instruments

The book details several particular financial instruments of note during the history of civilization and explains the importance of each one to the evolution of finance in general. The concept of interest, the (unfortunate) discovery of inflation, paper money, bonds, and stocks are covered. It's really an interesting read, though the history isn't entirely linear. I think the emphasis was on the advent of particular financial innovations more than just a straight story along a specific timeline.

The text is very easy to read and simple to follow along. The self study guide that comes with it is very handy to get a full understanding of the mathematical equations. I was disappointed that the weblink provided in the book to get more up to date information from Standard & Poor's was not working. I had to order the 11th edition for my second finance class but that was by order of the university. When the 11th edition arrived the weblink in that book worked. I really enjoy reading the book on my commute to and from work. I recommend this book to even the curious person who wants a better understanding of retirement and pension plans.
I will always refer back to the two texts for all my finance needs.

This text is characterized by its extreme simplicty in explanation and presentation of its material. The flow of presenting the contents of each chapter is so sequentially logical that it makes the reader grasp the financial concepts very fast and effectively. Colorful illustrative diagrams are employed extensively to facilitate a high level of understanding and help the learner develop the necessary conceptual links between inter-related topics and items. In addition, it is very comprehensive and intensely supported with a "luggage" of real-life cases .I recommend this excellent text to everyone who needs to take an introductory course in corporate finance.

As an undergrad taking his first finance class, I have have found this book to be quite useful. The concepts are explained in simplified, less-complicated ways and make reading each chapter less frustrating than perhaps some others (compared to some of the econ texts that I have had to use!).
It is well-written, concise, and employs some very straightforward, easy-to-follow graphs/diagrams. Also, both the formulas and the exercises at the end of each chapter are quite useful.
The only reason that I did not give it a 5-star rating is because some of the chapters did not use enough "real-world examples" or hypothetical situations in some of the more challenging lessons. This might better aid those students who are new to finance or simply need another angle to better grasp the idea.

Wondering how real-life experiences relate to business? Want to learn savvy business strategies that produce a win-win for you and your customers? And have fun (the book cover says it all)?
That's what authors, Tina Forsyth and Andrea J. Lee, share in their hot-off-the-press book, Money, Meaning, and Beyond.
These two ladies deliver out-of-the-box thinking with practical applications. It's one of the few books that truly operates like a manual to be referred to often for inspiration and fine-tuning your business.
P.S. If you like Money, Meaning and Beyond, there are promotions at the back of the book for additional products and services that more than pay for the book itself. Now, how's that for a deal!

I understand why the product description says that the book is praised by economists - it has all of the flaws in thinking exhibited by mainstream economists. Answering questions about what to do about economic problems within the current framework will not solve anything when the framework itself (all money is backed by debt, with interest payable to private banks) is the issue. There is some clear thinking, and an ability to at least question a few tenets of conventional economic thinking, but the author's lack of understanding of the Federal Reserve system and where treasury bonds go (abroad, for the most part) shows a failure to grasp one of the most basic issues in monetary reform. This book is a pitch for infinite borrowing and elimination of taxes, written in sound bites. If you enjoy being lectured to by a (very good) propogandist, this book is for you.
If, however, you have a genuine interest in monetary reform in a way that will benefit society in general (rather than a small sliver of the very wealthy), try Michael Rowbotham's 'The Grip of Death' or Ellen Hodgson Brown's 'The Web of Debt'. These will explain to you why we are in the economic mess we are in and what would really help to get us out of it. Questioning the framework itself is necessary. It was something that was possible throughout the 19th century but the American population went to sleep after the FED was created in 1913, assuming the status quo was then fixed.

In a nutshell, this book's basic premise is that the government can create money at will. Therefore, the government should create all the money it wants and make us all rich. It doesn't take a PhD in economics to realize the absurdity of such a hypothesis. Freely printing money at will was tried before in this and other countries amd the results are always disasterous.

An excellent book. Shows how to lower taxes and at the same time, support Social Security (as well as Medicare, the military, crime prevention.) Has dozens of ideas you never see in the media. No gobble-de-gook. Very easy reading. It's counter-intuitive but logical. If you want a fresh view of what has happened in our economy and what will happen, this is the book for you.

Every once in a while, you find a book that changes your view of the world. FREE MONEY showed me why the common knowledge about the economy is completely wrong. It showed me how to predict the stock market, which I've done successfully for the past 5 years, using the simple method described.
It showed me why we had the recession and the recovery. It showed me why Chairman Greenspan's mistakes were largely responsible for the recession, and how close we were to a depression.
It showed me solutions to the Social Security and Medicare problems.
In short, this is one of the most important books I ever have read, and it made a lot of money for me, too.

Very highly recommended reading, Money And The People You Love: A New Approach To Financial Planning Based On What Matters To You Most by Bruce Helmer (President and co-founder of Wealth Enhancement Group) is an invaluable and practical introduction and study of financial planning for the nonspecialist general reader. Exploring and interpreting the complicated "art and science" of financial consultation and planning, Money And The People You Love deftly removes the generally found barriers of business and financial lingo for an effective and accessible presentation of universal money-making principles and preservation tactics applicable to any investor. For those seeking a greater understanding of the investment process for desired financial result (particularly those considering near future prospect of investing), Money And The People You Love is very strongly recommended.

I am reaching my mid forties and it's time to take stock of what I have, and where I want to go. I am overwhelmed by all of the financial planning books out there, and not one really speaks to my personality, which is anything but financially-minded. But I know what matters to me, and I know I've got to start planning and figuring out this stuff at some point! This book has what I need, and I'm only 1/3 of the way through. At last, a book on finances that doesn't make me feel like an idiot! Helmer writes easily and well; sound stuff.

This book really gets down to what matters, how money impacts your relationships with those you love. The chapters on Money and Spouses had a lot of great insights. Money and the People You Love is very easy to understand and fun to read, very anecdotal. This book is a must for anyone interested in how planning their finances impacts their whole life, from newly married to planning on leaving a legacy.

Being in the financial industry, Bruce Helmer has learned that relationships are the greatest influence on how people will plan for the future. As one reader stated, Bruce uses "Plain English" that is seldom spoken in the financial industry to explain some incredibly complex subjects. Bruce challenges conventional ideas and gives examples of why following these ideas often times can be detrimental to your financial health. He also makes one realize you should follow your own passion, because wealth is defined by the beholder.

For my money, this is the BEST book on this topic -- bar none! Most attempts at discussing ROI are either extremely technical (overburdened with financial concepts) or too "sales friendly" (lacking real substance). Their model for constructing ROI scenarios is practical and easy to work with. Anyone that needs to get real work done would be well served by using these methods.

His section on Brokers and Advisors is a good warning to people that haven't really thought about what their wirehouse broker is really doing with their money, but he almost totally ignores fee-only registered investment advisors (as opposed to brokers). I think he could have done a much better job of explaining some of the other options in the market for financial advice.
This is one book I actually considered leaving in the airport when I was done with it.
I will say that Chapter 14 (Divorce - The Real Equal Rights Amendment?) was a fascinating read. If you are divorcing someone who has more assets or more earning power than you, reading Latko's theory of equitable division will make you salivate. Of course, your attorney will also love it because attempting to employ it will blow the entire settlement apart...
