This is a must read. It covers how to be a person that is true to themselves. This book inspired me to write a poem called falling in love with me and I can't put into words how inspiring this book was. T.D. Jakes covers all the elements on how to grow. I love Bishop TD jakes but I could not get past Disc 1 track 5 or so of this audiobook. I listen to him on my podcast but it seemed like the book lacked something. It seemed like the Bishop just focused on a particular individual. I could not relate...I hope to listen to all of it one day...I pray so...

I have read several books by Bishop Jakes, but this one by far in my opinion is one of the best one yet. I haven't finished reading it yet, because once I read a particular section I have found myself to go back and reread it. Bishop Jakes is definately annoited by GOD. I just hope and pray that GOD keeps on using him as he sees fit to minister to the world. This book is a real blessing and eye opener.

T.D. Jakes is a great orator and no one can simplify and explain how to Reposition better than the master himself! The opening of the book was powerful! I immediately began thinking who I would invite to my "own" intervention. I could not think of one aspect of my life that was not touched. T.D. Jakes asked the question "If we thought he was qualified" to write the book? I say "YES" his life, his insight makes no one else more qualified. I definitely must preserve my family history and pass on the "valuable traits" I have gained from my ancestors and community to future generation. I realize that this book is a "handbook" that must be re-visited again and again! I finished the book knowing that this was not the end. I must challenge myself to continue growing. Thanks T.D. Jakes for the insightful words.and for reminding me that inspiration is what "ignites" the path for "Repositioning"! I encourge anyone and everyone to read this book it crosses all gender, race and religious lines; its a book for everyone!

Have you ever wondered why all those other self improvemet books sound alike? The messages in Malz's book mirror so many other authors yet, he was before their time. The breakdown of self evaluation then logical steps towards your vision of success make lots of sense. This is an essential piece to anyone's collection of self help books.

This book is for anyone who is ready to stop making excuses. When read with an open mind, this book will help you find the true reasons behind why you do or don't do anything. Apply the principles in this book and they will boost you to levels of success and happiness that you did not believe were possible. Far from being ethereal, this book provides scientific and practical help.

I had the original a while back, moved, lost my copy and wanted to explore the book again. I bought the new psycho-cybernetics and am greatly disappointed with it. It tries to be too much, almost like they've tried to add several unrelated "books" of unrelated info to psycho-cybernetics. There are stories and additional paragraphs of information that you're not quite sure what to do with and it clouds the original ideas. Anyone can make a book longer with lots of extra info but a nicely summarized and boiled down series of thoughts is difficult to do so get the original because that's what it is; I just ordered the original again and will leave this "updated" copy in the hotel I'm staying in right now.

Of the numerous books I've read about self improvement and changing our mindset, this is the best. It can be a difficult read at times but it is an excellent book. One that you would definitely have to read over and over again to grasp the wealth of information inside. It has many examples and practical suggestions to assist you in changing your thought patterns of self. I highly recommend this book if you want to change the way you think.

This is a very intriguing work. Maltz's style is so easy going and commonsensical, yet somehow his words moved me deeply. His message can be summed up thusly: 1) Be kind to yourself and stop beating yourself up; 2) Rid yourself of old, disabling habits, and replace them with empowering and uplifting ones.

That said, my description doesn't come close to relaying the power and empathy with which Dr. Maltz delivers the message. Somehow, he explains things in such a way that he had me mesmerized and entranced. I really got a lot out of this program and I couldn't recommend it more HIGHLY!

Lest you think that this is a work of "philosophy", rest assured that it is filled with examples and action steps that you can immediately use to implement Dr. Maltz's techniques for self-improvement.

Great, fun, easy read, but...

This book is a great overview for someone just beginning to think about starting a business venture, but it seemed to be more focused towards the needs of a large venture, rather than a small business. It covered a lot that I thought would not be applicable to the type of business I want to start -- a small town retail shop where I plan to run the business myself and will not hire executives or get funding from investors (other than probably a local bank or the SBA). Perhaps this just shows my ignorance of what owning a small business is about, though!

I also have to express my disagreement with his comments regarding attorneys. (Disclosure: I am currently an associate at a big law firm.) It sounds like he happened to get some bad attorneys. For what it's worth, my thoughts, based on my own observations of attorneys at large and small firms (my own firms and opposing firms), are this: (1) I don't think his experiences reflect the services provided by all large law firms -- I think the quality of services you get depends on whether you hire a good INDIVIDUAL attorney, not law firm, (2) you are much more likely to have someone "learn on your dime" at a small firm than a large one simply because attorneys at large firms do a lot more business and specialize in certain areas and therefore become more experienced with matters that arise in those areas, (3) most small firm attorneys will NOT be as great as the ones he found, and (4) most partners are so distracted by bringing in business and a million other things that associates are much more likely to focus on your deal, keep things moving quickly, and actually pay attention to the details. I think the ideal arrangement for a small business owner is to find a good associate who has a good partner to ask for guidance on big issues when needed. I just don't think it's fair to generalize that all big firm attorneys are terrible and negligent with small clients, or that associates are all clueless and learning on your dime. (I can provide proof in the form of reviews from my large and small business clients!) That all being said, there are some fantastic attorneys at small shops and if you find one, you will pay much less for their services. My best advice on finding a good attorney (whether at a large firm or a small firm) is to get referrals from other business owners.

Very good, but needs more depth

The Entrepreneur's Notebook by Gold offer an enthusing reading for anyone interested in knowing the fundementals of starting a new business venture with the least amount of mistakes. This is why I liked this book:
1. Uses real life examples from the author's own experience to explain entrepreneurship and the mistakes not to make when starting a new business.
2. Uses very simple analogies (I love the chapter on cash flow).
3. Very easy to follow and explains the different entrepreneurial personalities in great detail.

I did not like this book for the following reasons:
1. This book is not universal and most of the chapters apply to entrepreneurship in the US only. Although the first chapters are applicable to any entrepreneur, the ending chapters are rigid and US specific.

Final Verdict: Still a valuable buy but more applicable to US entrepreneurs rather than Entrepreneurship in general.

Practical, Hands-On Guide for Novice--or Seasoned--Entrepreneurs
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-30
Gold goes far beyond the typical "here's the difference between a C Corporation and an LLC" to explain not only the nuts-and-bolts of finding business partners, forming a company, marketing your products/services, and writing a business plan, but also--and perhaps even more importantly--how to *think about* being an entrepreneur and how to make the critical decisions that can make or break any new venture in its early stages. And he does this not only from the point of view of someone who has studied and taught business (although he does fit the bill on both of these fronts), but as someone who has successfully started and run several businesses.

For example, he not only points out the need to put together a team, but explains how to recognize your own strengths and weaknesses and how to identify complementary team members who are most likely to work together as a cohesive unit. He not only explains the importance of finding the right corporate lawyer for your company, he also provides concrete--and nonintuitive--advice for how to avoid picking the *wrong* one. He doesn't merely repeat the mantras of "find your niche" and "focus on your core competency," he explains how to translate your "big idea" into a finely-honed business plan based on analysis of both your company's strengths and weaknesses and the market in which it will operate.

I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about starting a business who wants to avoid common pitfalls and start off on the right foot with the "entrepreneur's mindset" and plenty of concrete strategies for success.

Lots of short little self-motivating lessons from finding passion in your life to taking care of others, taking care of yourself, taking care of business, etc.

One of my favorite suggestions dealt with the constant urge to check e-mail, a big time-waster - Tesh suggests instead dropping down for 10 pushups. That's a great cure! Digesting a "lesson a day" will help brighten your day, and build better tomorrows.

John Tesh puts together a great book full of heart and inspiration to encourage anyone who reads it to take back the passion and purpose in thier life. This is a great self help book for anyone and just an all-around great read to keep at your nightstand. To be composed of so many segments, it really flows well and is tremedously readable and enjoyable. John shares many lessons from his own life and encourages others to turn up the volume on thier lives. The book is not preachy and is written in a very warm, conversational way. John has this ability to connect with his listeners that really carries through to print. I believe that anyone and everyone will benefit from reading this book.

I was very skeptical buying this book at first, considering there are many like it on Amazon that are authored by what I call "rip-off" authors who recycle common information into book form and have a legion of their buddies write good reviews (which they reciprocate for their rip-off buddies).

I was pleasantly surprised, however, with this book. The author present very straightforward, no-nonsense, and practical advice on writing good copy. I'm no copywriter/expert, and so the information for a beginner here is certainly very valuable, helpful, and easy to follow and apply. I didn't buy this book with the intention of becoming a copywriter, only to avoid the massive fees some of them charge, and help my business grow. And, I can safely say, that applying these techniques did help my business grow, not exponentially, but better than nothing. I look forward to reading other, more in-depth, specialized, and advanced technique books by this author.

good copywrite

Review Date: 2007-11-18
i've not read it all yet; only half of it or so. since great names in the bussiness of copywriting praise it, i shouldn't dare say there's anything wrong with it. actually it's quite good; i learnt a lot. the author's main idea is that the copywriter's bussiness is to help products sell. that's the challenge; if you write interesting but non-selling copy, you're not doing your job that right. in order to write copy that sells you have to focus on the client, on her needs, expectations, fears etc. - not on the product, as some beginners may wrongfully do. "techniques" are explained that should help you organize and get started. examples work nicely.
i should only remark that the author's promise that he would deliver techniques for writing good copy is quite a bit of a copy that sells in itself. you get what the author promises, a good guide on copywriting, but i should say the big picture that he conveys is more important than the techniques. i suppose i liked the book better if it were a bit shorter, so far.

Think and Grow Rich

The single way of life in a capitalist society
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-09
After finishing "Think and Grow Rich" I have suddenly realized that this simple slogan is the single way of life in a capitalist society. In this book, as the only way of getting rich, the author advocates goal-directed way of life, purposefulness, constant self-perfection, courage, the skill to think and to act, and the other similar traits of character.

Many people came to a conclusion that the wealth, in some extent, depends on a level of education, motivation, self-esteem, and so on. The problem is that not all the people in equal extend incline to the education, to their self-improvement. This is because of the differences of their needs, habits, abilities, capabilities, and so on. Leo Tolstoy in his novel "Resurrection" arose a question of how to improve the level of education within a society: from inside of each individual or from outside? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Should first the level of education of each and every individual be risen which yields a revolution (dialectic transition of quantity into quality) or the revolution should make the environment to foster the education of every individual?

The traits advocated by Napoleon Hill correspond to the first Leo Tolstoy's way of improving society. If each and every individual will improve, the society will automatically improve. The second way of Leo Tolstoy (create the environment which will foster the education of every individual) is contrary to Napoleon Hill's ideas: "if something is got for free or without big effort, it won't be appreciated, won't be handled with care or you won't trust it". Free education and medical care won't be respected properly by people, regardless how good this education and medical care are. That's why the socialist society will develop slower than capitalist. Marxists knew this and have built the concept of World revolution (to overthrow of capitalism in all countries), and a further idea by Trotsky that it was impossible to build socialism in a single country. Trotsky wrote that the socialist economy is not as efficient as capitalist and without the World revolution the USSR won't be able to overcome its economic underperformance.

Napoleon Hill praises the freedom and opportunities of the capitalist society of the U.S. in particular, which gives, according to Napoleon Hill, boundless opportunities for an individual who is able to think and grow rich.

I also recommend "The Road to Serfdom" by F. A. Hayek in addition to this book. Although "Think and Grow Rich" is a classical self-help book for a general reader while "The Road to Serfdom" is mostly academic, I think that both of them should be read.

Wonderful Book destroyed by the editors

Review Date: 2007-12-12
The editors of this book (and specially the Audio version of the book) make it almost unbearable. Their constant interruption of Hill to add absolutely irrelevant additional information and often times unnecessary explanations, make the audio tapes enraging. They break the flow of ideas that Hill expresses so wonderfully. They are so concerned with the time-relevance of examples that they force modern-day examples into the chapters. And they are so long-winded and uninteresting that I found myself screaming at the cd player to please SHUT-UP! Understand: The beauty of a classic is that it is timeless. Now if for copiright reasons they needed to add so much junk to a classic, the audio version should be set up so that the listener could jump-skip their material. The editors ruined the book experience.

Original Book is great, but this "editor comment" version is too much

The book is great. But it is frustrating to keep hearing the "editor's comment" and then "end of editor's comment" and then the comments from the editor. I appreciate the editor putting in his or her two cents, but it is frustrating when you get into the deep thought about what Napoleon Hill is saying, then suddenly, the message "editor's comment" disrupts your thought. To me, it is an ego trip of this editor by putting in too, too much of his comment. The whole CD 2 of the 9 CD is packed with Editor's comment. It is frustrated keep getting interrupted over and over by the "Editor's Comments" and I decided to vent online to let someone else know not to buy this version. If you want to buy, go for the original, the unabridged version of Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich.

This book was very helpful in letting us know about the ASVAB. It showed us how to get a better AFQT score as well as what areas we needed to score higher in to get the job we wanted. It was very easy to use and the practice tests were so helpful. My husband past the test and got the job area he wanted. It also prepared him for what the test day was like and gave him clues on how to stay at ease and help his knowledge be better used. We were in a hurry to study up and it was quick and to the point. I will probably look at other dummies books for other helps.

This book is great for people whom already have well developed, basic math skills and are just looking for a refresher to familiarize them with what they might run across on the ASVAB. You need to already have good math skills because the math, science, electronics, and physics portions of this book are FILLED with basic, arithmetic errors (elementary school level addition and subtraction and middle school level factoring). Don't expect to learn anything from this book. If you need to brush up on math for the ASVAB, I would suggest a different publisher.

The MBE Review Flashcards are an excellent supplement to Barbri or another bar review course. Going through the comprehensive outlines can become tedious and cause lost focus. The flashcards help maintain focus and also exercise different mental skills. True, there is a lot of information on these cards, but it's not necessary to recite all of the information during each trip through the set. All of the cards begin with the black letter law, which is really all you need to know, and then they provide examples and exam tips if further explanation is needed. The set includes all MBE topics plus Civil Procedure and Corporations (both of which are tested on the state-specific portion of the bar exam). This set is not a replacement for a good, comprehensive outline from Barbri or PMBR, but it's an effective supplement for learning the black letter law in a way that is more interactive than an outline.

Too Much Information Per Card

There was no reason for these questions to be on flashcards. For me, flashcards are meant to help memorize elements, etc., not just ask a question and give a detailed answer on the back.

There is too much information on the back side of the card for this to be efficient. Reading an outline will effect the same result.

Also, Civil Procedure, which is included, is NOT actually on the MBE.

However, Kaplan/PMBR has provided sample cards for you to look at on Amazon, so you can judge for yourself whether it will be helpful for you or not.

A smart, informative, entertaining guide to a serious subject...filled with FAQs that you sometimes didn't even know you needed to ask! Quickly became an everyday reference that I turn to again and again. Set up in an extremely reader-friendly fashion (perfect for those of us who don't have a lot of patience or time to spend looking things up) that makes sense of the language of HR. Once I read it, I bought it for all the managers in my team and recommend it to everyone who has ever encountered an uncomfortable HR situation (or hopes to avoid one!)

It's a start.

Not a bad book. It totally ignores Employee and Labor Relations for the most part. No discussion about unions as I recall. Could cover contingent workers more too. It's a good place to look-up something and from there, go to the Internet.

An excellent resource

I highly recommend this book. I run a HR department by myself and since it is just me, myself, and I - this book gets lots of use; just to get another perspective on how something should be handled or feedback "so to speak."

It is written in a simple, clear, and direct manner. Very easy to use and understand.

This is easy !

I bought this book last year while coaching an HR professional. What I didn't realize is how much I needed to have this information on hand here in my office. Time after time my staff and I will use this as a resource when questioning an issue with pay, hiring, firing, what is fair and what is right for our employees. I have also found I will use when I suspect a client might be in a grey zone with an employee. A must have for small business owners! Alicia Fruin
