Wanna open a food service business? Read several books including this one, subscribe to the Restuarant owner email news letter and then search for any other material you can read about the subject. Lots of people try and many fail, or just give up. Be educated in your decisions. You will gain enough from the school of hard knocks, so you should have enough education to realize when a "lesson" comes your way.
Good for beginners

Very good book. Full of details. Could go a little further into the kitchen matter. You will need another book on food cost calculation, once this one does not cover it all the way.

When my wife and I decided three months ago to open our own restaurant, this book was our very first purchase. If you're thinking of opening one, it should be yours, too.
"Running A Restaurant For Dummies" is packed with useful tips on starting and running a restaurant: things like choosing your "concept", creating a menu, selecting the right staff and building a loyal clientelle. It's an easy read, with everything broken down into easily digested chunks and plenty of funny anecdotes along the way. The authors do a good job of getting across the glamour and the drudgery of the restaurant business, and most important, they get across the message that the restaurant business is just that, a business. Cashflow, inventory, marketing, hiring and firing -- take it from me, you'll spend at least as much time worrying about this stuff as you will about the food.
I must have bought a dozen books on the restaurant business before we opened. This was the only one I read cover to cover. Five weeks after opening, we're doing great business and getting great reviews. We regularly have to turn people away on Friday and Saturday nights. At least part of that success we owe to this book. Thinking of starting a restaurant? Buy this book. It's the best fifteen bucks you'll ever invest.

I have been reading similar books (including the secret), but as the little red start sticker says on the book "Secret beyond the secret" is true.
I truly understood what Mr. Wattles talks about and this is the first time I really thought of it and said "AHA" thats how it works!
Well worth the read, one of my favorite books I re-read every month!!!

Secrets of My Hollywood Life
Jen Calonita
"I just want to go to school for a bit, I'm not quitting I'm just taking a break."
Every teenagers dream is to be rich and maybe even famous, well not for this Hollywood star. 16-year-old Superstar Kaitlin Burke dreams to be a normal teenager. She wants days that aren't planned everyday. Going to school seems like the perfect idea.... or maybe it isn't.
School is tough for her, first being made fun of because of what she wears and her accent. Some things do work out like, making new friends, being invited to some of the hottest parties on campus, signing up for school activities and maybe even falling in love? But just as things seem to be going good for Kaitlin, will it all turn out to be a total disaster, or will someone even find out who Rachel really is?
This was a really good book I would recommend this to girls in grades 5-8, girls this age will be able to connect with Kaitlin.
The plot was set out nice and evenly there wasn't to many events happening at once. Jen Calonita is a great author I love the way she wrote Kaitlins life. Don't miss the next one and the third book coming out soon!

Kaitlin Burke is the girl who everyone wishes they could be. She's got many mega movie deals, a hit prime time television show, and many more things going for her, but she just isn't happy! Unlike her mother and many other people around her Kaitlin thinks that she deserves at least a little bit of a vacation when her hit television show "Family Affair" wraps up for the season. With the help of her best friend she creates a disguise and attends an actual school under a false identity. School is a big experience for Kaitlin, she goes to her first actually real party, meets an incredibly nice guy who isn't even famous and attends she her first real school dance! Kaitlin attends the school dance with Austin. (the incredibly nice, non-famous guy who she met!) Everything seems to be going well until Kaitlin's celebrity arch nemesis, Skye Hamilton shows up, and turns it into a horror in which Kaitlin will never forget! Discover Kaitlin's next move as you pick up "Secrets of my Hollywood life" by Jen Calonita!

This book was amazing!!!!!! I can't believe hardly anyone wrote reviews for this book. There are also two other books in this series, Secrets of my Hollywood Life: On Location and Secrets of my Hollywood Life: Family Affairs. They were all so good I read them all in the same month! It gives you a good idea of what it is really like to be a celebrity. It shows that Hollywood stars are just regular people underneath all of the glamour and they find it very important to have a private life. In this book, the leading character, Kaitlyn Burke, wants to have the chance to be a normal girl. So she enrolls in school and everything becomes a big disaster. If you want find out the whole story you've got to read the book. So buy it now!!!!

So... In the book "Secrets of My Hollywood Life" we are introduced to young Hollywood star, Kaitlin Burke. Everyone in America LOVES her, heck, EVERYONE loves her, but Kaitlin is sick of the attention. Directors want her, girls want to Be her, and boys want to be WITH her. All Kaitlin wants is to be a normal girl with normal friends. If only her Beautiful blond waves and emerald green eyes didn't give her away. WAIT! What better thing to do then to disguise herself and go to the same school as her best (normal) friend Liz... right!? WRONG! Kaitlin soon finds out that being "normal" isn't exactly a walk in the park either. With her new cropped brown hair wig, brown contacts, fake name, fake but oh-so-good Brittish accent, and thrift-store threads, Kaitlin is labeled the GEEK of all GEEKS in her school. Only her closest friends and family know her secret. If anyone outside her inner circle found out, Kaitlin wouldn't be America's sweetheart anymore and her career would be on the line. Not to mention how much everyone would HATE her. Kaitlin is in a tight situation and it doesn't help that everyone in school is making fun of her. Everyone except for Austin. Austin is the all-around best guy that a girl can ask for. He's smart, funny, and HOTT! Austin likes the new girl Rachel (our favorite Kaitlin Burke in disguise) and he likes her for being so real and sharing interests with him. What he doesn't know is that Rachel is Kaitlin whos jealous co-star, Sky Makenzie, is out to ruin her career. Who knows what will happen next in this thrilling adventure!?! Will Kaitlin be revealed? Will Austin like Rachel AND Kaitlin? Will Sky FINALLY be fired?! It is all answered in this FANTASTIC book! Read it! The worst that will happen is that you won't like it (yeah right!) I rated it FIVE STARS for a reason you know! I hope you enjoyed my review!

This guide provides a general overview of the investment banking industry - all the divisions and opportunities, positions available, salaries, hours, etc. I recommend it to anyone who wants a very honest and straightfoward description of I-banking. This book is great for sparking interest, but further investigation in desired fields is necessary. Aside from the numerous typos and poor editing, the guide has served me well.

While much of the information may not be new to people who are used to the activity of creating SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic/Relevant, Timely/Time-bound) this book is written in an easy to read format with short chapters and easily actionable next steps. Brian Tracy uses stories and quotations from a wide variety of public figures, which most of us know, and their stories add credibility and believability to the themes he presents. He even provides a suggested reading list at the end. I flagged many pages so that I can share them with my Career Coaching clients and have already recommended it to two professionals I've worked with in the past.

The audio version of Brian Tracy's "Goals! How to Get Everything You Want--Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible" has been on my iPod for ages and I listen to it frequently. And, I've read the actual book to get more info and take notes. Not only is this book great information, it's highly motivating.
Tracy is one of the top consultants, trainers and speakers for major corporations and has written numerous books and audio programs. His personal mission statement is "To help people achieve their goals faster than they ever would in the absence of my help." While I have listened to and read several of Tracy's works, this one remains one of my go-to books for when I am working on making plans for setting and achieving goals.
Tracy begins by sharing how he learned as a young man how to set and achieve his own goals, which led to huge gains in his success and financial rewards. He has accumulated much data on how valuable goal-setting can be and while I have personally experienced great results from setting goals, I was surprised to hear the many phenomenal examples he illustrates here. For instance, a Harvard study conducted in 1979 discovered that only 3 per cent of students surveyed had written goals. Followed up in 1989, that 3 percent was earning more than all the others (97 per cent) combined! Pretty powerful stuff, eh?
I teach goal-setting myself, and one of the hardest things to convince people of is the need to quantify and set deadlines for their goals. Tracy describes how and why that is necessary, and how it helps. He also shares ideas for discovering what you really want, and for making sustained progress toward achieving your goals. Other topics covered in the book include how to be an expert in your field, managing your time, visualization strategic planning, flexibility, creativity and persistence.
Actually, this book is about success and how goals are the one big ticket that will get you there. Not just in business, but in all areas of your life. Tracy's main point is the one thought that can help you be more successful, which is "Write down your goals, make plans to achieve them, and work on your plans every single day." The rest of the book tells you step by step how to do just that. In fact, I am convinced that if you are able to learn the material in this book and apply it to your life, you will be unstoppable. Whether your goal is being a multi-millionaire or being mayor of your hometown or starting your own small business or working from home, I recommend you read this book. Then re-read it. Then, start working the process and get ready for your own success!

....at last I really do think I've found the book I've been looking for & if you're reading this & thinking will "this one" help "me" achieve my aims at getting my life on the move to becoming successful - then I say unequivocally - YES!!, this is the one for you.
I've read hundreds of so-called self-help books both modern & old and Brian Tracy's "Goals" sums up ALL of the books I've ever read on the subject. It's like a hundred books all in one covering everything from Motivation, Confidence, Time Management, Self Belief & Worth & oh yes & how to set realistic & achievable Goals!
The beauty with all of these requisites for success is that we all have these qualities to one degree or another & Brian inspires us by telling us that any one of these attributes is "learnable". So no matter where you find yourself today on what "may appear" to be a long road, you can start straight away.
This ought to be the very last book you buy on the subject, but before you read (& more importantly re-read) it, make sure you have a fresh note-book (preferably A4) & scribe to hand. The book is jam packed with all the essential information to kick you off in the right direction the minute you start reading. If you feel you really must do some more research then there is an extensive bibliography at the back.
The book ends with a summery of the 21 successful tips in setting & achieving these goals. Also there is a summery to be found at the end of each chapter for easy future reference.
Written in a modern, clear, interesting, easy readable style & language. It's broken down into easily digestible chunks in such a way that makes you want to read a little bit more. You never stop learning & it's never too late to start [something new].
Don't be put off or judge the book by the BOLD but plain looking & unattractive cover. It's Brian's message that counts & he very cleverly uses famous quotes from the Greats of the past.

Fantastic perspective from an intuitive master -
With that said, I would not suggest that you listen to this CD without first understanding the Law of Attraction (the Secret). If you understand this premise, then the messages spoken via Mike Dooley will ring true and provide you with a greater comprehension for our purpose in life and a better grasp of how to use the power you control.

It sounds corny, but this book made me believe in myself as an aspiring copyeditor. The chapters on freelancing are especially helpful for someone with no experience and no idea how to break into the industry. This is the book I had been looking for!

I've been doing some freelance proofreading work, but I didn't know how much I still had to learn until reading this book! Sue Gilad has a lot of information: everything from grammar rules and spelling mistakes to the differences between copyediting and proofreading (glad SOMEONE could finally pinpoint the differences!). This book is clearly written and a wonderful resouce. The only thing I think it could have improved upon was the secion for finding freelance jobs. In Gilad's online book Paid to Proofread (paidtoproofread[dot]com), she offers more in-depth suggestions about creating a resume from zilch, and also ofers more in depth info about approaching editors. On the other hand, the Dummies book contains way more information about resources and grammar. All in all, this is the most comprehensive and clearly written book on proofreading I've read.
Terrific resource!

I've been able to build my at-home business as a freelance proofreader much more quickly than I anticipated; all thanks to this invaluable resource! Learning the ins and outs of copyediting and proofreading is made simple, quick, and fun.

This helped me to understand what the idea of personal boundaries means and why it is important. It turned a cliche into a useful tool. I enjoyed the direct and unadorned language. Highly recommended for all, especially those who want to know how to help themselves along the journey of recovery.

I was very excited at the prospect of learning more about setting boundaries. However, this book was so low level and inane that I ended up just throwing the book into the trash. If anything, this book should have been titled "Intro to Boundaries if you have never heard of boundary setting."

This book is very well-written in easy-to-understand language. After reading this, I have a very clear idea of healthy boundaries and am now able to discern when boundaries are being violated. Definitely worth reading.

I work with people that have manipulators in their lives and their biggest struggle is boundaries and personal identity. It is very difficult to help a person understand this topic when it is so lacking in that persons life. This book makes this subject very easy to understand and apply to ones own life. If you think you don't have a manipulator in you life, read this book and see how fast you change your mind. The author is very non-judgmental and compassionate to everyone's preferences. There are no bad guys in this book. I love that!

This book is a good supplement to the other "How to get into the top MBA programs." It's a lot smaller and goes much less in depth. I found it was a nice supplement to the other book, but I would not suggest this one as your main source for application tips and strategies.

Your MBA Game Plan is an insightful book that provides you with first hand knowledge of how to gain admission to the top business schools. It allows full access to the questions that admissions counselors want to know. Also, it informs you on how to improve parts of your resume that may be lacking. The most helpful section of the book provides sample essays that have been submitted to top B-Schools such as Northwesterns' Kellogg Graduate School of Management and the Ross Business School at Michigan University. The essays have been critiqued by the MBA Game Plan authors and provide great insight on how to woo admission counselors. This book is a must have for those planning for graduate school.

Written by the co-founders of a leading business school admissions service, YOUR MBA GAME PLAN is an invaluable resource for any who would go beyond the usual reference telling how to gain an MBA. It focuses on the school itself, discussing everything from acing the GMAT and getting into a top business program to selecting the right school, and this revised edition includes sample essays and resumes from successful applicants. It's a 'must' not just for college libraries but for general-interest lending collections catering to business school students.

It's hard to get mba books because you know you'll only need them for a little while, and then each program is so different it's difficult to judge what you really need. This book was great in that it offered info from particular schools to which I was applying. If I had to choose only one book, it would be this one.
