I believe you are referring to Deu 18:10 - 12. I make more typos than most..lol. Anyway, this chapter is addressing the Levites (Tribe of Levi) only. We should not pick and choose phrases and use them out of context.

Also, if you really want to understand the "Old Testament", read some good research books from the Jewish Publication Society or the Jewish Lights Publishers.

Her books are good, not great. Nothing new inside but it is a good way to bring Gnosticism and Spiritism to lay people. Allan Kardec stated most of what is contained in her books in his works.

This particular little book is good mainly for the CDRom.

My daughter in law mentioned this book in 2005 to me mentioning how much she would love it, no she is not subtle. So I bought it for myself. It was quite good but not bragging I am beyond alot of what was in the book. But I did give it 4 stars because I bought it this year and sent it to her and my son and hopefully they will learn something out of it. So far don't think so since they are ruder and even more unapreciative than before. Sylvia is excellent and I have many other of her books.

I found this book to be just what I needed it to be. Feeling trapped and depressed it bought me back to life and made me realize I am the one in control of my happiness and in how others treat me and in who I allow in my life. Once again I have to hand it to Sylvia, just the fact that positive things are happening to me now, proves to me whatever powers she possesses, she has the power to make me feel good about myself.!!! Isn't that the most important thing in life? Highly recommended reading

I think when Silvia first started writing she was good but I'm sorry her last few books including this one are sarcastic and weak. The depth is not there and the joke cracking is out of line. I learned nothing here like I did in her earlier books Waste of money.

I've been on LinkedIn for a while, and apparently I wasn't alone in not getting the most out of it. This book went through the many features available, but more importantly provided the succinct "next steps" needed to prod me along. Each practical section is like a lesson: here's what it is, here's how to use it, and here's what you need to do. Great advice for anyone looking to better understand and leverage the power of social networking.

The LinkedIn Personal Trainer tells much more than just how to use LinkedIn. Rather than just showing what the screens are and how to enter data, this book tells you how to effectively use LinkedIn to increase your networking. In a step by step approach, author Steve Tylock gives advice on both building a profile that will get noticed, and on building, managing and using your connections.

I would recommend this book both for new users (as I was), and also for folks who are already are using LinkedIn, but want to get more out of it.

For the novice to Linkedin, this book allows you quick access to the power of this professional social network. It allows you to make better use of your time and leads you through easy to follow tutorials. For those of you that have working knowledge of Linkedin, you will still benefit from the exercises.
Good return on invest.

"The LinkedIn Personal Trainer" is a strategic weapon every business professional needs in their arsenal to succeed in today's global economy. The clarity with which Steven Tylock presents his message is particularly valuable because the concept is frequently discussed, however often understood superficially. Finding and leveraging LinkedIn to create a competitive advantage and how to dovetail such with your own "life" aspirations is all neatly contained in this working manual.

Kudos, Steve for such a sensible handbook that I make regular reference to. The thought provoking/ goal setting aspects keep me focused on my process of continuously improving my network.

I was a member of LinkedIn for more than a year before I realized it's power and efficiency for business purposes. I'm a very experienced Internet user, yet I was slow to catch onto the possibilities of LinkedIn. Since the mean number of connections of all LinkedIn members is a number less than TEN, many other people are clearly having the same trouble.

I was encouraged to do more than fill in my LinkedIn profile and wait for results, by other people. It was their encouragement that got me to build, 50, 100 and now more than 4000 first level connections. Thanks to my friends, I got good advice. Not everyone is so lucky. For the rest of you, there is "The LinkedIn Personal Trainer". It's a small book FULL of practical and useful stuff that LinkedIn users should know. Even after four years LinkedIn membership I was still able to learn a trick or two.

I run training courses on the use of LinkedIn. I can tell you with assurance that 90% of LinkedIn users don't know this basic detail. That's why their profiles look like personal resumes, and why they fail to build their networks. LinkedIn works if you work. "The LinkedIn Personal Trainer" tells you HOW to WORK. If you've got fewer that 500 direct contacts on LinkedIn, you need to read this book.

Of course if you've got endless time you can use the help section of LinkedIn, and you can search the LinkedIn forums and you can find all Steven Tylock's advice without spending a cent. However, since time is your most precious resource, I do recommend buying the book.

Buy this book for any recent college graduate you know and make sure they read it.

This is a fantastic study in time management that will be valuable to you no matter what age you are. His tips strategies and activities will force you to take a mental inventory, and commit them to paper, so that you can literally "Get Control of Your Time and Life." As a recent college graduate, it has opened my eyes early in my professional work experience so that I can avoid getting into a rut and being overloaded with work, family, and friends.

His advice is extremely practical and something that can be done easily by everyone nowadays. It is in some cases redundant, because you feel like you do some of these things anyway, but the manner in which he presents them allows you to fully understand the concept. This is a quick and fantastic read that you will recommend to family and friends throughout your days. It is interactive, well written and genuinely eye-opening.

This is very simple and yet practical. The purpose of this was to use in coaching an employee but it is serving me well also. It's good reminders, and clarification between goals and activities and the need for continuous prioritization is not brand new but logical and practical enough to work for anyone.

I bought one each for two family members, daughter and brother, with the hope this book would help their 'focus'. Each is in a fast paced, time consuming job which leaves precious little personal time. This book could help, but as you may have guessed, neither has read the book even though I gave it to each one 5 months ago. "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink".

Everything you do and achieve is dependent on how you manage your time.
Is what you are doing now the best use of your time?
Are you focusing on what is most important to you?
If not, then why aren't you focusing on doing what needs to get done.?
If you were to create a top 10 list of life's essential books or maybe a list of say the best dozen guide to life books, two of them should be about how to manage your time. Because all that you ever do and achieve in your life will depend on how you manage and use your time.
Put this one and Dan Kennedy's no BS time management book, No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs (No B.S. Series) on your required reading list.
Learn to stop procrastinating and get rid of people that prevent you from focusing on what is important.
Become much more proficient at getting things accomplished.
This little book will show you how to prioritize things and focus on the things that matter most.
You only have a limited amount of time. Make the most of it and use it on stuff that matters to you.

This book is a collection of brief quotes and thoughts that inspire you to trust your intuition. There are normally two thoughts per page and 125 pages, so it is a quick and uplifting read. I have recently read several new age/metaphysical books where I felt like they were just padding a simple concept with so much repetitive dribble (so they could reach 200 pages) that they sucked the life out of the good idea. This is a startling contrast - a simple idea kept simple. Brilliant!

Some of my favorites are:
· Trust your hunches. They're usually based on facts filed away just below the conscious level.
· Good instinct tells you what to do long before your head has figured it out. -- Michael Burke
· It is by logic that we prove, but by intuition that we discover. -- Henri Poincare
· Every time I've done something that doesn't feel right, it ends up not being right. -- Mario Cuomo
· A temporary inconvenience is easier to adjust to than a mistake you were warned about.
· Often you have to rely on intuition. -- Bill Gates
· Only intuition can save you from the most dangerous individual of them all, the articulate incompetent. -- Robert Bernstein
· It (the theory of relativity) came to me by intuition. -- Albert Einstein
· Why ask mere mortals for advice when you're guided by Sacred Wisdom?
· The high-minded man must care more for the truth than what people think. -- Aristotle
· What you know intellectually you have acquired from others. What you know intuitively, you receive from God.
· All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; second, it is violently opposed; and third; it is accepted as self-evident. -- Arthur Schopenhauer
· The ego becomes threatened when change is introduced, but the Spirit gets excited. The ego rejects what disturbs its control. The Spirit thrills to what promises its freedom.
· Is it really so painful to have people dismiss your intuition? Apparently it isn't if you're Einstein, Aristotle, Edison, Copernicus, the Wright brothers, Henry Ford, or Bill Gates, to name a few creative geniuses. At least if people laugh at you you're in better company than those who are laughing!
· Ignoring your intuition is like driving on a highway in the dark of night with your headlights off - on purpose.

This is one of those rare books that I will give a gift, reread many times, and recommend to friends.

I was lucky enough to meet Jesse Stay, co-author of this book at GSP West a few months back. He offered me a copy to give away on my blog, Beth's Blog. So, I thought since it was a thin book, I'd give it a quick read on the plane, jot down a page of notes in my moleskin and do give it away. Well, there was so much that I learned that I have to be selfish and keep for myself. So, buy your own copy - indispensible.

This book offers exceptional value to Facebook users - new and experienced. "I'm on Facebook, Now What???" gives so many excellent examples and offers many great resources for multiple uses of Facebook.

Jason Alba and Jesse Stay have taught me far more about the functionality of Facebook as a business tool far better and more detailed than Facebook itself. The questions I had before starting the book were answered upon completion. Very impressive read and it's written in a very up to date format that keeps your attention throughout.

I enjoyed the book and found so much solid value that I purchased a dozen to give to my professional clients and candidates as business gifts.

I learned more about Facebook from this book in fifteen minutes than I have in the entire year I've been using it. I learned not only what I can do and how to do it, but what I should be doing to help myself and my business.

I'm not exactly a newbie online - we're getting up to 30 years since I first used email and got on the Internet, and I'm been on Facebook for about a year.

I'll admit it though, I barely understood Facebook until I read "I'm on Facebook -- Now What ???"

It's pretty much the indispensable guide to professionals and business owners using, or considering using, Facebook.

Jason & Jesse did a stellar job of compiling all the Facebook technical know-how, plus the intangible aspects of best practices, proper conduct and etiquette into one quick and easy read.

The thing with all social networking sites - in my opinion - is it's relationships/social first, business second. You can't go rushing in and blatantly push your products and services. It takes time and the right approach to reach out and connect to quality, like-minded people and build relationships. "I'm on Facebook--Now What???" includes plenty practical tips to help bridge the gap between old school marketing techniques and web 2.0 strategies.

Best information on 'speaking career strategy' I have read
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-18
First of all, the production quality of this book is crap. The thing was falling apart the first time I opened it. I dont like having to be careful with a book like this, particularly one I want to mark up, highlight, go back to time and time again.

Now then, we are getting to the point of the book in the first place. I wouldn't care if this thing was in cuneiform pressed into wet clay tablets. There is more practical and useful information in this book on how to strategically set up your speaking career than I have seen in any of the dozen or so other books that I have read. You could literally take the advice in this book - and virtually nothing else - and plan out your speaking career for the next ten years.

The author's practical trashing on some of the 'rules of thumb' of the game (e.g., raising fees) are not mere opinions: this guy has lived this and has the income history to back up his claims.

Some of the references are outdated (the book is nearly 10 years old as of my writing) so you have to get passed that. The info on how to establish yourself as an expert through writing books and creating other income streams through developing info products is sound but has been superseded by far more complete and recent writings (Stephanie Chandler's book "From Entrepreneur to Infopreneur" is a great reference for that).

The exercises on 2 PAGES (35 and 46) alone made reading this worthwhile.

The focus on offering value is the key. This is what I focus on in my own coaching and speaking and, for that matter, what I spend a lot of time teaching to my clients.

VERY highly recommended.

First of all, his writing style is frank and to the point. This book is all substance and no fluff. He focuses on speaking as a profession that provides a service. All of his advice is real world relevant. He gives straight advice regarding speakers bureaus, marketing material and his insight on how to get booked for speaking events. But understand, Alan Weiss is a contrarian and if you are afraid of trying bold strategies that will separate you from the pack, then don't bother. If you want to make real money as a speaker, author, and consultant, then you need to apply his teachings today. I recommend him to all my students and workshop attendees. I am not a newbie at this. I am the author of the books Self-Marketing Secrets and Client Seduction and I teach marketing at UC San Diego and the New Client Marketing Institute. Describes the morning "run" made by a paperboy and his dog.

Dav Pilkey has illustrated many books during his career including some of my favorites. The Paperboy's cool background colors give of a soothing feeling(very calming) which would be perfect for when your little one is angry or in a bad mood.

When the Paperboy gets up in the morning he, like eveyone, is still sleepy. But the Paperboy has to make his deliveries before he can snooze any longer. He and his dog, roll the newspapers up, put a green rubber band near the center, and go of to deliver the papers to all the friendly customers. When he is finished he continues on with his sleep. Zzzzz...

Also, have you even known a kid who took his/her job as seriously as the main character in the book.

It's a bad sign when a book published in 1996 already conjures up feelings of nostalgia. Remember paperboys? How kids could earn a little extra money by getting that crack-of-dawn delivery job that put a few more coffers in their pockets? Nowadays, many paperboys have been replaced with adults. Adults with cars, no less. Looking back at Dav "Captain Underpants" Pilkey's Caldecott Honor title, "The Paperboy", the reader is transported to those ethereal moments that exist for some kids even today just before the sun rises. It's a story about a boy, his dog, his job, and that's about it. No grand statements or surprising moments. Just a lovely look at a once common suburban ideal.

On the title page we see a dull gray truck leaving the loading dock of the Morning Star Gazette in (what most of us would call) the dead of night. It makes its delivery of a stack of newspapers at one of the many houses in a particular suburb. The first sentence sets the mood perfectly. "The mornings of the paperboy are still dark and they are always cold even in the summer". A boy forces himself out of his warm bed and makes some breakfast for himself and his corgi dog. After bundling the papers up, the kid and his faithful companion make the familiar route and think their private thoughts. Just as the sun is rising, boy and dog have finished their job and they return home just as everyone else in the family is waking up. The paperboy and his pet, however, climb back into the bed, "which is still warm" and dream of soaring through the night sky.

The book records each small action that the paperboy accomplishes with a small unassuming note of triumph. Sentences like, "It's hard to ride a bike when you are loaded down with newspapers. But the paperboy has learned how to do this, and he is good at it". Also, getting out of a warm bed to do a job is exceedingly difficult to accomplish sometimes, "but they do". Kids don't have to ford rivers or climb mountains to be brave. Just making yourself to do something uncomfortable or unpleasant can be heroism enough. Pilkey recognizes this and celebrates it with understated aplomb.

I loved the fact that the dog in this book was a corgi, by the way. There just aren't enough corgis in children's literature, gol durn it! Aside from Tasha Tudor's books ("A Time To Keep" comes to mind), corgis are the most ignored picture book dogs out there. This is hard to figure when you consider just how cute and cuddly they are. They're the world's only permanent puppies! So if you happen to be a children's illustrator and you feel you have a certain amount of clout in the publishing world (ho ho!), get the word out: We Need More Corgis.

The obvious companion to this book, right off the top of my head, is "The Adventures of Sparrowboy", by Brian Pinkney. In fact, if Mr. Pinkney weren't such an original author in his own right, I'd be mighty suspicious regarding all the similarities between these two books. "Sparrowboy" follows an unassuming paperboy who acquires the power of flight. "The Paperboy" follows an unassuming paperboy who at the end of the book dreams of flight. Both are African-American young men who live in suburban neighborhoods. If you're more interested in doing a full-on paperboy storytime, also consider Don Brown's, "Kid Blink Beats the World". That's a kind of paperboy heroism the likes of which we'll probably never seen again. "Sparrowboy" and "Kid Blink" would be obvious pairings, but the tone of "The Paperboy" has far more in common with Jane Yolen's well-regarded, "Owl Moon". Both books revel in the feeling children have when they are out in the mysterious night and no one else is awake. If you're thinking about having a storytime that considers the natural mysteries that come when the sun is gone, these two are obvious companions. Read alone, however, "The Paperboy" will still extend its quiet bravery to the children that read it. Even if they've never seen a paperboy before, they'll understand how great it can sometimes be to have a job of one's very own

This book has changed my work life for the better. I feel more comfortable at work now because I have more realistic expectations and I feel prepared for difficult 'office politics' situations. The book is interesting and offers real-life situations that I can relate to.

Pretty much everyone has to contend with Office Politics in their job at some point or other. It often doesnt matter who is wrong and who is right in offices, but how a situation is handled. Can you think of a time when you know you should have handled a situation differently, but are unsure what you should have done? Can you think of a time when you lost leverage because of your own actions? Be honest. We all have shot ourselves in the foot. Why stay ignorant? Come into the light!

I love this book. My sister cant wait to read it after I'm done.

The title of Chapter One in Secrets to Winning at Office Politics says it all, "Politics is not a dirty word." Office politics has always had a negative connotation but in reality it has just taken a bad rap. Secrets reminds us that office politics is simply the reality of relationships and Dr. Marie McIntyre shows us all how to play the game - honestly, ethically and successfully.

McIntyre uses real life examples from her experience working for a Fortune 500 company and her consulting business to give the reader an excellent view of the real world at the office. Her straightforward yet entertaining style is refreshing and her practical advice and self-assessment questions and surveys make the book a gem.

Secrets lays out in very practical and anecdotal style how one can succeed simply by understanding the unwritten rules of working with and for someone. What is unique about the book is the openness with which the subject is discussed - the real life examples are those we can all relate to as an employee, a boss, a parent, a teacher or a friend. It provokes a kind of self-evaluation that some people never seriously consider.

Give this book to every high school or college graduate you know! If you are the boss, read it, and then encourage your employees to do the same. It's a keeper.

Reading this book is like reading the manual for just about any corporation with more than 20 people. It doesn't matter where you go, you will run into a lot of what you will find in this book. It certainly doesn't hurt to be prepared.

A "must read" for every professional!

I read this book before staring my new job. I feel more prepared than ever for what I need to do to be successful. This book was so thorough and content-rich, I put tabs in it and carry it with me to work . . . just in case I need to reference something or need a "refresher course". I recommend this book for seasoned professionals as well as those just entering the workforce!

Wow! This book is all about feeling good inside. I am 50 years old and already make a very high income from my day job and play jazz at night. I know almost nothing about Hip Hop, am white and grew up in the suburbs. I had never even heard of Russell Simmons. I was not sure if this book would touch me in the right way because I assumed it was "exclusively" for the young, urban, hip hop crowd. I bought the book on CDs based on all the great reviews and am blown away by it. It is written in a way that is so inspiring because of the honesty. He talks to you like your hanging out with him instead of in a lecture hall. He fills you with a calming spiritual feeling with his totally inclusive and spiritual nature. It's contagious. He totally cares. On top of all that, he has done it all himself from bottom to top. I can't imagine a better role model to learn from.

After reading just a few pages I had already begun to plan how I could change my thinking, thus change my life for the better. What stood out the most in the book was how the title, DO YOU, although simple is a quite powerful truth...

The book made me realize that I have, over time, lost sight of many of the simple truths that make me who I am.

After reading the laws I began making changes that helped me to be more true to myself.

My favorite thing about the book was how he used real life examples of how people who are successful now got their start by being humble servants. That has always been my belief so it was nice to hear real life success stories.

THESE ARE THINGS THAT THEY DO NOT TEACH IN COLLEGE. THAT IS PROBABLY WHY MOST OF THE MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES OUT THERE DID NOT FINNISH OR DID NOT GO TO COLLEGE. I AM NOT PUTTING ACADEMIC EDUCATION DOWN BUT JUST REALIZING REALITY!
THE ADVICE IN THIS BOOK IS HARDCORE. I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT RUSSEL SIMMONS BUT NOW I AM AN ADMIRER. HE AND THE PEOPLE HE WORKED WITH AND PROMOTED ARE AMAZING. IN A SOCIETY THAT CONTINUES TO PUSH THE AFRO AMERICAN ASIDE, EVEN THOUGH WE CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN ANYONE, WE HAVE ALWAYS SEEMED TO ACHIEVE AGAINST ALL ODDS BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE RUSSELL SIMMONS!!!!!!!

The book illustrates and elaborates insights of Russell Simmons, the man who founded million-dollar companies; Def Jam Records and Phat Farm Clothing. You may have heard the 12 Laws, or versions of them before, but the book details how Russell Simmons uniquely applies them to his successful life. Though you may be distant to the Hip Hop world, it depicts the mindset he needed to get from hustling in Queens/NYC in the 1980's, to becoming a multi-millionaire entrepreneur of today. The messages here are to improve and promote anyone's natural abilities. Some chapters do stretch on his use for yoga, but he does work in its relativity. The book also finds a way to heighten the awareness of how large an influence the Hip Hop culture possesses in the world. I especially like how he quotes many different philanthropists and explains it in his own street-wise way. I'm glad I picked it up.

Sam Horn's intelligent books always stand in a class of their own, with relevant and realistic ideas that can be implemented immediately. This memorable and practical book is a gold mine of inspiration and ideas, and frankly... is a ton of fun to read!

As a professional career coach, I have read hundreds of books in this genre - "What's Holding You Back?" is one of my all-time favorites! For two years, I have been giving this book to my clients as a gift, and have consistently received rave reviews and heartfelt appreciation in response. I truly believe it's an invaluable resource for helping individuals increase their confidence and clarity. I just recently pulled it off my shelf and re-read it for myself, and was once again reminded of its powerful impact.

Chapter 4, "Conversing with Comfort" is simply brilliant! The tips provided on these pages will have even the most introverted individual communicating and "networking" with ease. If you're already an avid `networker' or sales guru - this book will feel like a dear friend, reconnecting you to what you may know, yet often forget. It will no doubt inspire you to "try on" some new ways of connecting to others in a more meaningful way.

I offer my sincere kudos to Horn for this magnificent work, and offer a sincere "must read!" recommendation to potential buyers.

Possibly the BEST book I have ever read. I bring my dog to a park and am constantly approaching other people (especially those who are alone) and reaching out my hand to say hello.
A lot of people there are would like to meet someone but are afraid to approach others. I have a lot of friends there and am always meeting more.
Whenever I have extended my hand to say hello I have never been rejected.
I am just an average looking guy who applies the things taught in this book.
