I've used with product about ten years ago and will continue to do so when job hunting. As other readers have already stated, sometimes the information on various companies dated and incorrect. I would not recommend buying one version of this book and keeping it for years as a reference book - again - the data become dated very quickly.
Despite small flaws, I do highly recommend this purchase. While this book has never directly gotten me a position, it has, however, put my resume into the types of hiring manager's hands I desire.
Also, all position levels can be found with this book. Most highly recommend however, I would start a job search with the newest version.

30% of the data in this book is wrong/out of date.
I sent out 100 emails; 30 bounced back. Sent out 100 faxes 28 were not valid.
I emailed the publisher and they ignored it. You are better off going to the store with a laptop and inputing all the email/fax data and do a mass blast as this was published in 09/06 and the data is stale.
Not worth $65+, when you can do it for free in cafe.

The Good - This book is organized in such a way that you can referernce by preference. The Bad - Due to major turnover in the recruiting industry some of the information contained may not be valid by the time you have purchased and opened the book. The Bottom-Line is that despite some firms no longer being in busness, this remains a great reference tool to have. (Smiles) - Karen A Petersen (Orlando Florida 10/01/2007)

I read this book in the spring of 1990. It saved my life. At the time I was a junkie, in jail, and facing charges of armed robbery. I had been to rehabs, NA, AA, church, you name it. Nothing worked. What this book did was to convince me that I really could take control of my life and become the person that I always wanted to be. I actually quit smoking half way through the book to prove to myself that I could. I got out of prison in the Summer of 1994. I have been drug, alcohol, and cigarette free ever since I read the book. Dr. Peale saved my life. Today, I have a wonderful family, a thriving business, and I am a respected member of my community. I couldn't have done it if Dr. Peale hadn't convinced me that I could. I wish that I could have thanked him personally, but he has passed on. The best way to pay my respects is to pass on my experience.
Read the book and discover the power within to become everything that you ever wanted.
Best of luck,
Mark Owens

The Student Doctor Network has really went out of its way to create a tome for the complicated medical school admissions process. It's broken into 11 categories, each containing a series of small articles written by different and appropriate authors. They range from discussions on what to focus on in premed studies to actually build a decent resume, to breaking down the differences in allopathic, osteopathic, podiatry, and Caribbean schools. There are also very useful chapters on money matters and med school statistics.
The most helpful chapter for me has been the one that focuses on the actual application process. All of the authors speak from experience and their advice is actually constructive and not recycled tips like I've found in similar books. I intend to put their plan for setting up a physician shadowing into action. I'm also thankful for their chapter about choosing a major. I've read in so many books that colleges may prefer a non-science undergraduate, so it's nice to read from actual med students that those who arrive at med school without a solid background in biology often struggle to keep up, since nothing is reviewed and there are no intro courses.
The chapter on residency programs is an informative read and helps you get a taste of what your PG training will be like. I strongly believe in reading up on the entire process on the way to becoming a doctor. After med school you'll have your internship, residency, and if you choose to subspecialize, a fellowship. With med school included, we could be talking about an 11 year process. Every step on the path excites me and reaffirms my commitment to take this intimidating journey.
The book ends with two success stories and 17 FAQs. Overall, I'd say this is a great investment for anyone looking not just for advice or strategies on applying and preparing for med school, but also information on what to expect once you get there and once it's over.

Great book. Covers everything in great detail. I particularly like the comparison between the different school types, including the Caribbean option.
The student answers section at the back of the book is also interesting. Gives you an idea what actual students did to get into med school.
I'd recommend the book to anyone preparing for medical school. Great comprehensive resource with all the info in one place.

The SDN book is a great asset. However, the information it provides will be mostly useful to those that have absolutely no idea about the whole med school application process. I purchased the book after I had applied, and before my interview. It didn't do much for me. I got some broad interview topic ranges, but I still needed the internet. You might be better off by reading the SDN website and checking out their interview database. But for purposes of supporting the great website studentdoctor.net, I would say, go for it. It's a great support site so I would not mind purchasing a book affiliated with the site, that helps support the site. Also donate directly on SDN. Go STUDENT DOCTOR NETWORK!!! whoooooooooo

Don't let the title fool you, this book contains a highly intelligent, thorough look at the profession and industry. The author looks at how the industry has evolved, what the future holds and what it takes for both new graduates and career changers to not only be successful in this business, but to ultimately find fulfillment in their work.
The book addresses in detail the various options for entry, provides a glimpse of a day in the life of the financial planner and talks about the likely challenges one can expect to face in the first few years as a new planner.
It goes on to review the various credentials, touching on there significance and identifying those most beneficial. It also looks at resources for learning and continuous development as well as the clubs and associations worth joining.
And that's just the first half of the book... The book devotes a chapter to the life planning movement and the final two sections cover setting up your own practice and the keys to growing and building your business.
This book is not only an invaluable resource for those starting out in financial planning, but also a great source of information for those currently working in the business who are considering making the leap to go out on their own.
I read this book in one sitting and only wish it had been around six months ago when I started researching a career in financial planning. It would have saved me a lot of time and spared me a few headaches.

This book is rght on target! John Napolitano has done a masterful job of bringing information, knowledge, wisdom, and coherence to the topic of personal financial planning as a career. I coach and consultant to financial planners, including career changers, and I believe that John's book is a goldmine of must-have information to anyone contemplating a career in this field -- as well as to anyone relatively new to the field and seeking to chart their career development path. Don't leave home without it!

I found this to be an ecellent book on the subject of color and it's relationship to the art, graphic, and design world.
I would have loved to have taken the course which uses this book as their study guide art the Art Institute of Tampa, but they only deal with Degree seeking students.
You will find it very relative to the use of color in the Art, Graphic, and Design areas, especailly in the practical use of color in the real world.

This book was really helpful for me. Talk about a hostile environment, I was deployed in the desert, so I ordered the book off of Amazon, and it came on just the right day, when everything was going wrong, my boss was trying to find everything I possibly did wrong, and I was homesick and missed my family and friends, my life. This book really put me into perspective of what is important, and reminded me of what I am doing the job I am doing. I didn't want the book to end! It truly helped to get me in the right spirit.

Like most believers, I work in a hostile work environment, and this book gave me insightful points on how to respond to the environment.

Too simple to think of this as getting a job at Microsoft of job interviews in general. It's about having an open mind. Clearly the "problems" can distinguish between those who say "I can't do it" and give up and those who find every problem, even the impossible, an opportunity to succeed, and are not crushed be failure. And the problems are fun.

For anyone looking for an entry level position at a financial or technology firm, this is a must read. Insane logic puzzles and brainteasers are the new craze in interviewing, and the ideas are spreading to more and more companies. Whether such silly interview questions are a good measure of a candidate's intelligence is debatable. But one thing for certain is that interview brainteasers are here to stay.
Mt Fuji covers all angles of the interview brainteaser, from its history and origins to how they should be handled in an interview. The first segment of the book about the history of interviewing and puzzles is an interesting read and gives you insight into why their creators first put them to practice. As both an interview and interviewee, the history may help you understand their application, but overall this segment is not very practical for a tough interview.
The meat of this book comes near the middle, where it gives a list of popular logic puzzles actually used by some companies (solutions to all puzzles mentioned throughout the book are in the appendix). If you have the time, they are fun to work out. After this page of puzzles, the author describes how employers applied them in interviews and gives general guidelines for defeating similar questions.
The final chapter before the appendix is directed towards potential interviewers. It explains how some companies have gone overboard and improperly used brainteasers to evaluate job candidates. For interviewees, it makes you feel better if you had a bad interview because of unfair use of brainteasers.
Mt Fuji is an excellent read for any young person currently seeking a job, and any employer who would like to incorporate brainteaser questions into the interview process. The puzzles and history are geared towards technology firms like Microsoft, but these brainteasers are also very common with Wall Street firms. Not only is this read informative, but will be fun if you enjoy thinking out of the box.

This was a pretty fun read. The book goes over the origins of brainteaser/puzzle interviews, how they are/should be used, and has a lot of well explained examples. For my purposes of going over brainteasers that I might run into in investment banking interviews, the book was pretty handy because the few brainteasers I did get, I had read about before. If you are trying to do the same thing for other types of interviews (with trading companies or something more quantitative) then the book isn't as good in those areas, because the questions are more probability/stat based.
Overall, very enjoyable and well-written.

The utility coefficient between the contents of this book and your interview at Microsoft will be < 0.15

At this point, this is for entertainment purposes only. Like the late James Fixx's brainteaser books, these now are just for fun. If you really wish to cram logic puzzles for interviews, it probably pays to look at very old ones rather than current hot ones, since HR departments are not snoozing at the wheel on the ambitious nerdnicks who memorized vocabulary lists for the SAT.
There does appear to be some mapping of the techniques tested here and workplace problem solving skills, but we are in the artistic stage of alchemy rather than a scientific stage of chemistry on the topic. Anyone who claims these puzzles distinguish intelligence might as well be wearing a pointed hat and gazing into a bowl of mercury (on a tripod, warmed by a candle no less).
Still, lots of fun.

This is an inspiring book for those privileged enough to be able to follow its philosophy. I imagine that for the person who does not need to be concerned with keeping a roof over their head and food on their table for the foreseeable future, this book could be a great help in setting a direction. If you don't need the money NOW, and if you can do what you love for long enough, then maybe money will follow .... but only if what you love to do happens to be something someone else is willing to pay for.

I really enjoy this book and find its premise to be true. Many people settle into jobs they dislike and even hate. Doing what you love brings joys to all areas of your life. Sometimes we're afraid to make the leap into something that we love for monetary reasons, but the payoff is worth it.
what is this book really about??????

This book harps on a persons' upbringing and if there was enough encouragement, enthusiam and confidence given as a child... The author feels based on the manner in which the person was raised is relevant to their success...I kept reading ( painfully ) because I was sure somewhere there would be something relevant to the title. Reading this book was like a therapy session , that I did not request..

I simply loved this book! It motivated me greatly on a daily basis and I couldn't wait to continue reading it. I felt so positive and good about my quest.
Even though it was written a while ago, it still has much relevance today. If you think this is just another career book, you are severely mistaken.
There is so much psychology packed into it, in an accessable language. It truly is "food for thought" and makes you think about what your priorities in life are.
Highly recommended. Feel good factor!

I gave this book two stars not because of the writing, but because the title is misleading. If you're looking for courage to quit your high-paying but soulless job for more soulful work--and maintain your standard of living--this book won't deliver.
Perhaps a better title would be DO WHAT YOU LOVE, THE MONEY WON'T MATTER. That would set a reader's expectations more in line with the book's message. The cases in the book were not monetarily successful. However, they show that if you follow your heart, the money won't matter. The things that money can buy when working a soulless career, such as vacations, clothes, cars, and so on lose their appeal as a reward, because what you DO is the reward. You no longer need what money can buy because you have what money can't buy: love.

I have listened to this book several times. Zig Ziglar is just wonderful teacher. This is a short book for all intents and purpose but it will give you a solid starting point for why we need goals and how to get going with them.
Amazingly, consistently right on!

Mr. Ziglar is simply amazing. He is consistently motivating, inspirational, and right on in all that he says and writes. Truly a national treasure. Every bit of his offerings help me to do, as he says, "what I ought to do when I ought to do it", so that I will be able to do "what I want to do when I want to do it."

I have purchased other Zig tapes and really enjoy them. I thought this was going to be something new. It's not. It is the same stories all over again. I also do not recommend the CD if you are going to be using it as a car audio. CDs can't just stop, be ejected so you can listen to something else, and put back in like a tape can.

This is truly an excellent audio which has been worth many times its price to me. I have listened to it literally hundreds if not thousands of times over the last twenty years and it has helped me in my life to be successful in a variety of positions, through career transitions, etc.
In this tape, Zig Ziglar uses stories, reasearch nuggets and powerful metaphors to drive home his points in an extremely powerful way. He is very present when he speaks and the tape is not only informative, it is funny and entertaining.
This is a perfect tape to listen to over and over again while you are commuting. This is how I used it for many years. As a personal growth coach who does a large amount of public speaking, workshops and one-on-one coaching -- I feel I am in a good position to judge the merit of what is out there.
Zig is a Christian and this might not go over well with some audiences. However, he doesn't push this agenda, but he does at different points use some illustrations that come from the bible. For example, in one section he quotes the bible about money saying, "he who seeks silver, will never be satisfied with silver" and goes on to explain how you can never have enough money, UNLESS the money has you. I think that's a very wise statement and it's not money itself that is bad, but how you use it. The point he seems to be making is that are you a good steward of your money, which I think it a relevant point that requires guts to make in the current business environment. In fact, I would suggest it's an essential point.
Cognitively, I probably knew most of what was in this audio. However, I know it differently now at a deeper level because of using it. This tape is done in such a way that the ideas sink in deeply and become a part of you. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Also, in addition to working in psychology, I was also a marketing person for Xerox when they were Fortune 25. I went through their International Center for Management Development and won their Team Xerox Spirt Award. The point of me sharing this is that I know what it takes to train sales and marketing people and I recognize a good and practical resource when I come across it. I don't think you can go wrong with this audio, especially at the price they are offering it at.
