Reading the book for a masters level creativity class so I started out a skeptic. While much of the reading in the class has turned out to be very interesting, this book just hasn't struck any chords for me.

Some of the poeple in the class seem to appreciate it so it gets an extra star... but I'd suggest reading some of it before picking it up. If it works for ya, go for it. Otherwise, be cautious.

This is the second Julia Cameron book I have read. It is very much like Artist's Way except it is for the artist in the work place. All of Cameron's books talk about the artist within but it is for those who are looking for self. Self is what you are going to find. It is getting rid of what is unimportant and focusing in on the important making a complete and happier person. I am not quite done with this book but have devoured it and shared it as I did with her first book.

After completing the self-study program with Julia Cameron's Artist's Way ... this work-oriented book helps artistic and creative souls find a way to breath life and express their creative fire on the job. Cameron's analogy of the dragon is a dep metaphor to the fears that stop us from being our true selves. Instead of bottling up all the intense energy ... Riding The Dragon ... draws out our intensity with constructive excercies, wisdom, and a proper channel to achieve positive results. Cameron is one of the best informal writing guides for all of us with a voice were excavating.

What a Godsend this book has been for me! I always had the desire and "stats" but never the information and/or direction I've needed to break into the modeling business. Thanks to Judy Goss and her book, I have finally been able to achieve my dream. I now have an agent and have begun working thanks to carefully following the advice in this book, (which is comprehensive and easy for the layperson to understand!) It's a MUST READ If you want to be a model in any capacity! A bestseller, to be sure!

Excellent book! Judy Goss tells it like it really is. She is straightforward, honest and gives accurate, step-by-step instructions on breaking into (and staying in) the world of modeling.

Drawing from 20 years experience, she reveals industry secrets that help the reader learn how to avoid costly scams, what the top agencies look for, how to assess the type of model you are, best ways to find local and foreign representation and much, much more.

I highly recommend this book for aspiring and working models of any age and for parents of kids interested in modeling. There is so much to learn and this book teaches it all!

I am a father with two beautiful Daughters, Wanting the best for them is a fathers dream. One of my daughters wants to be a model and dreams for becoming one for which I encourage. The cost of modeling I heard and been told is very to expensive to just give it a shot. When I heard about Ms. Goss's book, I read it cover to cover and love what I read. Her words were of Truth and passion, no lies no promises no fantasies. I hope I can take her knowledge and turn it into a career fro my Daughter. Anyone who wants to help the child find the dream should read the book they will be glad they did.

How creativity can be so lacking in a book instructing art teachers to go forward in their profession is baffling. This is a rudimentary, pretencious way to teach art. It lacks more than ingeniuty, it really lacks the most basic human connection.

Read this book back in 1993 when I graduated from college. Wow! Just what I needed at that time in my life. It's a great book to use for direction on ones life, again, especially after college. However, it's great in general. I have given this book as gifts since 1993. From my siblings, to my best friends, and my students who have graduated. This book will change the way you see yourself, those around you, and the world. A must read. Enjoy!

Review Date: 2007-11-02
THIS BOOK AT TIMES CAN BE VERY PRACTICAL. IT WILL NOT MAKE YOU RICH OR SUCCESSFUL. ALL ANY BOOK CAN DO IS MOVE YOU TOWARDS ACTION, AND PERHAPS ALTER YOUR THINKING. THATS THE MAIN MESSAGE THIS BOOK TEACHES. YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER ONLY ONE THING AND THAT IS YOUR THOUGHTS. AND SO THE 17 LAWS THIS BOOK PRESENTS ARE 17 WAYS YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR THINKING. ONLY FOR THOSE WHO ARE DOWN TO EARTH AND ARE WILLING TO COMMIT THEMSELVES. UNLIKE OTHER "SELF HELP" BOOKS OUT THERE, I.E. WISHY WASHY CRAP LIKE 'THE SECRET', THIS CAN ACTUALLY HELP STEER YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY.

This is a truly outstanding book. However, if you wish to read ANY of Napolean Hill's work stay away from anything published by Highroads Media. What they did in both Law of Success and Think and Grow Rich is change the text to the way they think it should read. The changes made to both books are obvious and definately change the meaning of the books. Stay away from any work published by these people and opt to find editions that are true to the original text.

It was well organized and offered the perspective of numerous practicing PCs. While I need to go beyond this single resource, it helped me to formulate a plan and to outline those areas that required further study and/or consideration.

Before getting this book, I read through previous reviews. I was very confused by one that talked about her trying to sell from a "web site." I have no idea what they were talking about, since Denise has nothing like that. Perhaps they were confusing her with Candy Wallace, who offers a program (video and in person) for Personal Catering.

Instead, the book is a terrific source of valuable information in numerous areas of the personal chef business, from legal, personality, business forms, cooking, serving, marketing, recipes, pricing, and then even offers links to other invaluable sites.

I have done personal chef work and am now focusing more on the catering end of the business, but I certainly wish I had found this book when I first started. It would have saved me both money and time. I especially needed help with pricing and with how to present it to the client. I also would have benefited from her list of "kitchen and pantry" necessities. It took me months of trial and error to figure out that I needed all of the items she lists in her book. I also really like her suggestion of using the client's own equipment when possible, because the "lugging" of kitchen pans and tools was one of the hardest parts of the job.

Denise is an expert in the field and gives practical, easy-to-follow advice. She is honest and does not just try to "sell" the personal chef business. I look forward to any other material she might publish in the future.

I do a fair amount of public speaking and have found this book very helpful in many respects. It does an excellent job of covering the basics, includes some great tips that you might not think of on your own and also introduces some advanced topics without overwhelming you with lots of detail.

Like most of the "For Dummies" series, the book has an encouraging tone and is written in a humorous or light manner. It's an easy and pleasurable read and I believe everyone interested in public speaking would pick up something useful from it.

Excellent Book for Dummies and Non-Dummies Alike

Review Date: 2006-05-04
While I am not a huge fan of buying a book advertised as being for "dummies," I find the "...for Dummies" series to be very helpful for those of us unfamiliar with a certain topic. Needless to say, I am very unfamiliar with public speaking, unless you count the class I had in high school ten years ago, which I barely remember.

I am grateful for Kushner for taking a complex topic and making it easy to understand. Even though I am naturally outgoing and like to talk to groups, I wanted to learn an effective method of public speaking. I picked up the book because some friends and I have started an internet broadcast (called a podcast) and I wanted tips and suggestions on how to improve my speaking ability and organizational skills. I eventually want to branch out and do public speaking.

Generally, I liked the book, and even read it in a single day. I especially enjoyed the chapters about speech organization and the ones about voice and body language. I am going to practice his techniques during my spare time before either the mirror or a camera, to try to make them come more naturally. I am also going to thoroughly prepare for any speech I make, using the methods outlined in this book. He gives plenty of tips on how to start a speech, how to end one, and how to fill the speeches with humor and other interesting elements. Even though the book is an overview, putting his many suggestions into practice will keep anyone busy for awhile.

The only drawback to this book is that being a "...for Dummies" book, I feel like I need to read another more advanced book to actually get the best handle possible on public speaking. While I am glad this book is for complete beginners, some of the material is more about basic time management skills and common-sense psychology than public speaking. Also, I expected to read something about how to record myself and then how to evaluate/correct any mistakes I made. I didn't read anything about this. Webcams and microphones are so cheap these days that it only makes sense to suggest recording yourself speaking, and then watch it and evaluate it. I know that just editing my own (and others') podcast talks has helped me see how often I use "um," trail off, and ramble.

Overall, this is a very helpful and easy-to-read introduction to public speaking, with many advanced suggestions thrown in. I would suggest that anyone interested in public speaking read this book, and then get out and practice, practice, practice. That is what I plan to do.

I liked it so much that I ordered her "Ask Your Guides" card set and found them to be right on target time after time. I decided to try the "Trust Your Vibes" cards and I have to say that, although they are a different and slightly more complex way of looking at things, they are also very useful tools. Wonderful author... fantastic insights!

This deck corresponds to the books of the same name. They are very helpful and useful in every day guidance. If anything it is great to have them when you need assurance that you are picking up something accurate. The illustration is not as pretty as Choquette's other two decks but the cards are very valuable.

A note about Sonia: She does intensive training with these three decks at a spa in Illinois for $4000 for a weekend. So if you have all three and want further study it will cost you. And psychic training with Sonia is at $3200 plus travel and lodging so be warned ... this is one very expensive soul teacher. If you do get a personal consultation with her, and you hear you are psychic, to do The Hoffman Process, Artist's Way, Mindful Loving, and that you are a sensitive psychic in need of training, should be doing readings for people, need to excercise to align your body with your higher intentions, shouldn't look for a knight on a white horse in love, how your last relationship was karmic past life, don't worry ... she tells everyone that.
