I found the CD very succinct and very informative. It was not long but it was very helpful and the points Louise Hay made were very useful and practical. I have listened to it 4 times and I still am getting wonderful guidance from it. If one is willing to make changes in their life and realize they need to make changes then this CD will definitely benefit them!

During the last year of high school, the most common question is "what are you going to do with your life". Somehow, within the span of a few months, you are supposed to figure out who you are and what career you'll have for the rest of your life. It's no wonder that many people go to college and change their majors several times.

Unfortunately, an even bigger surprise awaits the new college graduate. After studying for years, they come to grips with the reality of working. Often what is taught in school doesn't ready the student for the job.

The Career Chronicles takes a unique approach. The author has interviewed a number of professionals in a variety of popular occupations and asked the things that we all wish we could have asked before committing to a four year degree program. Information includes employment levels, academic requirements, average salary levels, college vs reality, the biggest surprise, hours and advancement, how they spend a typical day, and whether they'd do it all over again.

I was really interested in this book after reading the other reviews. I am an educator and am always looking for books that can help students or their parents. When I read this book, I quickly realized the importance that this book serves to those graduating from high school or those looking for a new career. There is so much valuable and rich information for each career. Of course, I had to flip directly to the education portion of the book to see what it had to say. After reading it, I realized how easy my first two years of teaching would have been if I knew this information beforehand. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

What a fantastic book to read in helping one select a career. This book is subdivided by various careers including health care, law, architecture, education and IT. It gives the opinions of seasoned professionals where it describes the pros and cons of their career decision. The books even asks the professionals if they would choose the same career if given a choice. I hope that this becomes a necessary reference book for colleges and institutions that help people make a career decision. This book is an excellent tool for anyone deciding on their career path!

Say this kid speak at a Conference. He is a nice guy and appears to be pretty well grounded.
However, this book stinks. I bought it thinking I could share it with the youth group I'm involved with. Thought it may be interesting. The book is a major bore. A Sleepeer. Picked it up several time thinking it would get better and more interesting, but no substance ever evolved in the chapters. Do not waste your energy or time on this book!

I purchased this book for my son after seeing Farrah on TV a while back. He was very impressive during the interview. I bought the book in hopes that my son who was 11 at the time would actually read it. To my surprise, he blew threw it and told me that it was his favorite book. With that endorsement, I would recommend other young men to read the book as well. Good food for the soul.

I was truly inspired by this young man. I was intrigued, as my youngest son displays a lot of these attributes and has been telling me since age 5 or 6 that he's going to be rich. After reading this young mans story I just had to pass it along to my son, just to remind him that his goals and dreams are reachable, that no idea is a bad idea. Thank you Farrah for bringing the message home.

OK, I'm not tryin' to hate but it seems that if you are not a cute, very ambitious 8-year old who happens upon a mentor with the desire and the resources to help you out, then this book is just a heart-warming, rags-to-riches story, period. This is more of a "how it happened to me" than a "how to" book. I am pleased to see what can happen when intense, focused desire is aimed in a positive direction...and glad that he is reaching back to help others.

I bought three books (this is one of them) from amazon to give as gifts. I was worried they would not be on time for a golden wedding anniversary and 50th birthday of a close relative.

Firstly, the books where in mint condition with superb contents and apropos for the occasion (good guidance from brief descriptions by amazon) and best of all delivery was precise. Provided tracking was accurate with a couple of days to spare.

Amazon is still excellent in all aspect as I keep dealing with it! KUDOS!!!!

I was expecting a more OUTRAGEOUS book. Lots of good sense advice though especially for those who have been so busy in the workplace that they havent had time to figure out what to do with themselves once they age/retire. Good alternatives to staying home and vegetating. Positive theme, might be just what an older women needs to start her new life

Thanks to Ruth Jacobs for this liberating book. Far too many people give up the fight when they hit certain age milestones. But why become "old" simply because you no longer succumb to the siren song of corporate marketers. Which is one of the main reasons older people are considered irrelevant--you're not as easily manipulated by advertising pitches as you were when you were younger. So, let this book be your companion as you fight the good fight against stereotypes.

In fact, it was so relevant to me personally that I quoted her a number of times in my own book. You won't be disappointed --- she writes well on a variety of topics. Pamela D. This is a terrific guide written by a "Power-Granny" (--my term for and outrageous older woman of any age--)!

Ruth Harriet Jacobs has faced the boogeymen of age with courage and humor, and she generously shares her wisdom in this book.

It's a guide that covers everything from turning your "rage" (at becoming invisible as you age, etc.), into your own brand of
out-rage-eousness.

If you're feeling depressed about any aspect of growing older, this book will help lift your spirits and give you new ideas on ways to get the most out of this stage of life.

I'm not a student, but I've found this book to be the best reference available for a comprehensive introduction/reference to photography. I obtained my copy at half price books (1st ed.) for [...] $, and were it not for that store i would have never known this excellent resource as I'm neither a "student" nor rich. The only other book that I've seen that approaches this one is René Bouillot's "La photographie argentique", which approaches that of Mr. Warren's in content and exposition but lacks the excellent paper/pictures and may be a little pretentious for néophytes as myself. Bruce Warren's Photography is by all accounts the best photography book i've encountered.

This book should be on every new photographers buy list. In fact I think I'll put together a photo list and add it!

It's a largish textbook that is both well designed and clear. A rare find in textbooks, it actually teaches! I've found it very useful, very comprehensive and it's taught me quite a bit.

It's stylish, color, and will replace a lot of other books simply because it covers so much ground (not just technical aspects, but stylistic and subject matter). Amazon has it for a good price. I found this while shopping at Fry's and Amazon had it much cheaper.

Being a corporate coach who specializes in the relationship between executives and assistants, I find this book very useful. While it is not the end-all, be-all solution, it is a perfect start to building a partnership. The book is easy to read with realistic tips; I give it to my clients to augment our coaching sessions. I especially like the stages of partnership model explained in the book. It builds on the basic stages of management and is useful for both the executive and assistant. I bought this book thinking it would provide pointers on how to handel specific, everyday, and even "ordinary" situations assistants encounter with their bosses, and others in the workplace. Pointers that when carried out correctly would prove that you indeed are a "take charge assistant".

Instead, this book focuses on getting on your bosses good side, which is great, if all you want to be known for is being the dependable "worker". I was expecting somethig way more contrete, This book was too wishy-wasy for me.

I give it one star because eventhiugh I don't think it specifically states it there is an underlying message of the importance of communication.

If you think you're working relationship is great now, this book can make it even better. I liked the way the author lists the steps in preparing this concept to your manager. It was easy to follow and really makes you put a good deal of careful thought in the preparation process. I also liked the idea of action items not just for the assistant, but for the manager too. Remember a good working relationship involves both assistants and managers. Just working through this process together improves the relationship. Luckily, my boss endored it!

First, let me disclose that I am a client of the author. So perhaps I should be upset with Mr. Brounstein for putting out a book that has the same information I paid him thousands of dollars to teach me. Buy the book.

Remember the first time you dealt with a difficult employee - the knot in your stomach as you called them into your office. Learn about giving constructive feedback instead of criticism, and you may just turn a problem employee into a model employee - it happened to me. The knot may not go away completely, but with this technique it will definitely be more manageable. Buy the book.

Work smarter not harder. Learn about Results-based Performance Management, and get results, not just busy employees. Teach your employees to manage themselves by holding them accountable for results, not just activities that you give them to do. Buy the book.

Learn about coaching techniques such as Tutoring With Questions that will get your employees to start answering their own questions - and getting the right answers. Buy the book.

About a year ago I suddenly found myself in charge of 100 employees that had been thrown together from different cultures as the result of mergers and corporate realignment. Through the techniques I learned from Marty that are revealed in this book, I have been able to build an effective team of managers who in turn have helped me turn the organization around. A year ago, we were missing committed deadlines one after another. Now, we consistently meet and often beat our commitments. I often refer to my copy of the book for a refresher on Marty's techniques and regularly refer my managers to the book when they run into difficult situations. Buy the book.

Just in case I forgot to mention it: Buy the book.

Review Date: 2007-08-30

This book was kind of fun to read. I liked the author's frankness and humor. But I wasn't particularly impressed with how the title of the book was matched to its content. The book totes itself as a supposedly helpful career guide for young women just out of high school or maybe college who work in a cubical in an office environment. And it explains how young women can do some investigating and networking to learn about opportunities outside of a cube. But many of the opportunities discussed in this book were 9 to 5 JOBS. And the title says it is against such career moves.

I would have liked the book much better if it had stuck to explaining how to get out of a cube and make the transition into self-employment. Or if the title were changed, I would have like the book much better if it had only explained how to escape a cube into a more meaningful and lucrative job with an office or a company car. Of course, I wouldn't have pulled this book from the bookstore shelf if it was about the latter because I pretty much just review books that relate to my volunteering for SCORE, the small business coaching nonprofit.

The part of the book that I enjoyed the most was the author's story of how she had found herself stuck in a cube at age 24 and not doing what she wanted to do with her life - which was to do freelance writing. She decided to quit her job and start her own freelancing small business. And she found she couldn't make money at it at first - but she was resourceful and started temping in order to pay her bills while she got her business off the ground. Of course, I would have liked her story better if she were to have said she got her business WELL off the ground within a year or two. But unfortunately she says she continues to dabble in temping jobs from time to time to make ends meet. That doesn't sound like she has really accumulated enough of her own success to be writing this book, but some company did publish it and there are quite a number of positive book reviews posted on Amazon for it. So who am I to judge?

My favorite chapters were "I want a more flexible work schedule" (4), and "I want to be my own boss" (6). These two chapters were right on point when it comes to dumping a day job and starting one's own business. And in the book's appendix I very much liked "A Temp's Survival Guide" and "Boss in a Box." The "Must-See Resources" section in the appendix also seemed to be fairly informative. The checklists at the end of each chapter were well-thought out, too. 4 stars!
