I wish the sugar free recipes weren't prepared with Splenda. I personally use agave nectar or stevia to bake my desserts. Stevia can be funky to bake with but it's possible with practice and agave nectar is simply magic. It's a low glycemic fructose from a mexican cactus and it can be used in coffee, in any beverages or smoothies, pies, muffins, etc...
The other recipes look quite interesting but there's nothing exceptional here. Like the title of this message says: Can I return this book?

There are all kinds of diet books on the market. Whatever you want to try, there is a diet for it. Though I have not specifically tried the "No flour, No Sugar" diet by Dr. Gott, I have read the cookbook and found it extremely useful. A member of my family is gluten intolerant and, while not all of these recipes are gluten free (please note: some people who are gluten intolerant cannot eat oats, a main staple of Dr. Gott's), enough of them are that I am able to use them to extend what my family does eat.

The recipes are easy to follow, healthful and there are enough to keep you cooking for weeks. What is missing from this book are dietary specifics. I rarely buy a cookbook that doesn't include a breakdown of calories, fats, protein, etc. per serving. With this book, I will have to plug the recipe into a program I have and do all the calculations myself. I'd rather see some numbers in the book than have to do all this myself. Also, he is a huge promoter of "Splenda" - a product I and others in my family do not care for. Nor do we care for other artificial sweeteners. But he does give you enough alternatives such as Stevia (though there are caveats about this herb), and syrups made from fruits.

As with most cookbooks, you will find some recipes you love and some you will not. But take a chance and try them. What do you have to lose - besides the weight? All that being said, if you are a proponent of the No Flour, No Sugar diet, then this is a good companion to that book.

I had never heard of Dr. Gott's no flour, no sugar diet when I first found this cookbook. I must admit that I was instantly skeptical when I saw the title....no flour and no sugar? Would it be possible to make edible food without these two supposedly essential ingredients? As I began to flip through the recipes, my skepticism started to wane. Breakfast Apple Pie? Sounds appealing. Faux Spaghetti? Intriguing. Mandarin Mousse? Fabulous!

I instantly headed toward the kitchen to try some of the recipes. My first endeavor was the eggs in nests. What a great snack and super easy to make! Further tries on the recipes were just as easy and just as tasty. I was won over in just a few recipes. This book gives you recipes that are easy to make, full of flavor, and plentiful enough that you can eat from this plan quite regularly, if not full time. My one complaint is that there are a ton of seafood-based recipes in the book. If you are not a fan of seafood, you will have some challenges with variety in this diet.

One of the best features of the book is that it goes beyond just the recipes. Dr. Gott's diet is encapsulated in a few introductory chapters and gives a good overview of why a sugar and flour free diet is beneficial. It also gives tips and tricks for surviving the world outside your kitchen, avoid the yo-yo diet pitfalls, and how border line foods such as alcohol and chocolate should be dealt with. It helps take all the great recipes and fit them into a healthy and well-rounded diet.

Chock full of easy-to-make recipes that taste great, this book will be great for anyone looking to enjoy a healthy diet and limit their flour and sugar intake.

Diet is an important part to health, and this book has a lot of good advice in that respect. However, one must always be circumspect when it comes to these types of self help books on cancer. Diet is not necessarily a ready cure for cancer, but it is an important part of the journey.

I consider it immoral to promote unproven treatments instead of the stuff that has been proven to work in hundreds of thousands of patients.
People die as a result of trying alternatives and delaying treatment. I've seen it. It's okay to use alternative therapies and diet in addition to, but not instead of the FDA approved treatments. There have been many studies, including sponsored by National Cancer Institute, which showed only small and inconsistent benefit of dietary changes when treating cancer.
And, actually, many treatments recommended by oncologists these days are not chemotherapy, but biological or targeted to your type of tumor.

My wife was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2001 and succumbed to her cancer in March 2005. I only discovered Bill's first book six months before she died and had multiple conversations with him at the time. He was compassionate and patient and knowledgeable.

This book builds on his first one and is the best book on the market in terms of letting the reader know about the causes of cancer, why the pharma industry fights non-toxic approaches and what resources and approaches are available to the layperson who is struggling with cancer or is the caregiver.

I wish I had known about these approaches earlier. I have myself begun to research the role of sound vibrations in healing and have just released a healing chant called The Magic of Gayatri.

Kudos to Bill Henderson for putting this valuable resource together!

I did a 13 day Master Cleanse and LOVED it! I had never done a cleanse and was not sure i could do it. I am a yogi and eat very well, but at 47 was feeling a little sluggish and chunky. After meeting three people in different circles that had done it, I thought I'd give it a go! The book was super informative and covered all the bases. I personally felt good to fantastic the whole 13 days, in fact i was energized! I lost some inches, my skin looks great, and I feel amazing! Since then, my son, two friends and their son have started it and love it! This book is definitely a must if you're ready to let go of some old stuff!

The things I learned from this book changed my life. I am a happier healthier me. I feel lighter and I don't just mean weight wise. I was surprised at how healthy I felt and how much negativity I had stored in me that was released after only 10 days. I had so much energy and I was cleansing at the same time.

This book is truly remarkable! I did the 10-day Master Cleanse in May with only the information I got online from Stanley Burrough's book. I had so many questions and nowhere to get the answers until I heard about Peter Glickman's book, "Lose Weight, Have More Energy, and Be Happier in 10 Days". I am now on day 9 of my second cleanse and am so much more confident of what I am doing and am constantly referring to this book to read what others have experienced. This cleanse is so "do-able" because Peter coaches all along the way. The results are amazing! I've lost 6 lbs. and haven't experienced a bit of hunger. I am energized and have decided to make this a 20 day fast. The exhilarating feeling of cleansing your colon of a lifetime of crud is empowering and freeing. Thank you, Peter, for devoting your life to helping we health-minded people with this easy-to-read gem of a book. I appreciate the reasonable cost, too!

I did it!!!

Losing weight and having energy is the main reason I tried this cleanse but wow, all the benefits I received on top of that was amazing and just the reason why I do this cleanse every three months. The first time I did the cleanse it was hard; I only had the book "The Master Cleanse" but, the second time I did the MC, it was much easier because I purchased this book "Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days." This book helps explain the process a little better and is very encouraging. In my opinion, you must have both books to be successful in the cleanse. Thank you Peter!

Shame on those who have panned this book! This book (and others like it) provide a great public service which has nothing to do with its stated (to educate the public) or real (to make more money for a con artist) purpose. Namely, it's a great way to determine if you are (1) a paranoid, and/or (2) lacking in basic intelligence. If you suspect that you (or someone you know) may fit into either (or both?) categories, but aren't sure, buy a copy of this book and read it / have the suspect of your choice read it. If after doing so (actually a chapter or two would suffice) the reader can't tell that the contents are obvious garbage, then the verdict is in! Anyone who has so little knowledge of basic logic, biology, medicine, and the scientific method that they can accept this drivel as fact has just identified themselves as a danger to themselves and others. They probably shouldn't be allowed to vote, have kids, handle sharp implements, or engage in any other activity that would allow them to endanger themselves or society at large. By all means buy a copy (or two ) today, use it as directed above and help identify the truly deficient lurking in our midst. Help stamp out cluelessness today.

I was extremely disappointed with this book. I paid good money to get what the Infomercial said were lots of secrets for natural cures for just about everything under the sun. Instead, what this book offers is website addresses and names of OTHER publications you should buy (pay even more money for) in order to find out the so-called secrets. In other instances - such as stopping smoking - the book tells you that in order to learn the "secret," you must log onto the author's website and become a "private" (paying) member and THEN, you can find out the secret. This book was a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!!!

Kevin Trudeau may well be as much all about the money as he blames the whole world, have crime records, and more. Yet, people still have to listen to him. Most people in America are very negligent about their obesity and diet despite the epidemics of cancer and more diseases. Everybody has known at least a person with a severe disease, such as diabetes, we all know that the canned and boxed food has chemical that one should never eat alone. But, as Kevin exposes, the power of advertisement, media (so called "liberal") and government has been able to blind our society with very typical lies such as "the food only has small amounts of chemicals, it's OK", "I'm only having minor pains", or the plain denial of obesity, the most typical of all. After all, the medical science has progressed a lot and our health insurance (for those who have it) will deal with any trouble as many think.

No, the medical science has not progressed that much. Walk around a cementary and you'll find plenty of peole who died before 50. The statistics claim we live longer than ever before and much more in favor of medicine, what you may not know is that you can cliam whatever with statistics. The amount of lies out there is so big that we have already bought most of them.

Modern medicine has focused mostly on pain killers, which makes it more appealing than ever before. Yet, it's still typical for many people going from doctor to doctor to tell them all their pains and problems just to be told to drink water, take it easy, pay their copay and take more painkillers, so they neglect their problem. The situation is just like Kevin said, suppose that whenever your car sends you a repair signal the mechanic only turns the signal off. That is what current medicine does. It's pathetic how people are more caring with their cars than with themselves.

Most reviewers dismiss Kevin's challenges, such as drinking a full cup of artificial flavors or colors as gross and unrealistic because we simply dispose all those chemical over time. Never wonder how we can dispose all those chemical when water consumption is dismissal? No, those chemical stay in our bodies, especially in the fatty tissues, which makes far more difficult to expel. People truly drink at least a full cup a poisonous chemicals.

Most of Kevin's remedies are not practical or cheap at all, yet he is the single one who has been able to shake me and wake me up from my negligence and made me eat vegetable salads for supper, go organic and cut the meat. I never thought I could go enjoy a vegetable salad! And a salad with just a little organic dressing! Many other people do eat vegetables, but load them with fatty chemical dressing. "Low fat"? "Natural ingredients"? Read what Kevin says, and it's true. Changing my life and relieving me from minor pains that were starting to accumulate on my body was his remedy for me. Other than that, I haven't bought a single one of his products. I haven't even bother to visit his web site!

The fact that most reviewer do not stay on topic but bash his past or anything else and write very short and sloppy reviews make me think that corporations are behind many of those reviews. I am well aware that many people stand for corporation and this system that would always fire them at the slightest chance to outsource their jobs to China, but it's still puzzling to find so many. After all, only circa 30% of Americans admit being conservative, far less than the majority (circa 50%) who don't claim any preference. And just in case you wonder, no I'm not communist, I believe in common sense, more regulation, just like they do in Europe, and still a rich and industrious area. Which one is richer, Europe or America? I don't care; nobody can prove who is richer. They're both rich. Now, let's get back to topic. You still think it's insane paranoia to think on conspiracies, then why is it that when writing this review, this very web site, which should be foucused on selling, recommends tagging this book with marks such as "felon", "con man", etc. All of them, again, off the topic.

Kevin's writing can be scarier than a Stephen King's novel! No kidding! His book should be classified as pure terror, but in a new category, real terror, demonology and drama. The vampires and demons he talks about are real and far more lethal and evil than Voldemort. If this is a problem for you (no blame you), you can read Dr. Don Colbert's books instead.

And lastly, Kevin does provide a some literature to back up his claims, but most of it comes from daily experience that is available to anybody, all the things that we are seeing in public health, for example he exposes the medical corporation and colleges making huge fortunes to support research, publishing obscure articles to cover the fact that they are not solving anything for real. And he explains our system as well: it's all about the money. Suppose that the hospital and companies really cared for finding real cheap cures, they would lose so much!

I noticed that you can buy this book used from prices starting at one cent. I wouldn't pay that for it. Here is some of this joker's "advice" -
don't use sunscreen (they cause cancer; not the sun); don't use an electric clothes dryer; don't eat anything from a microwave oven; never drink tap water; don't eat from chain restaurants; don't eat anything that's pasteurized; don't drink beer or wine unless you have made it yourself. Right! Don't eat anything in a box, can, jar, or package!!!
Take a colon cleanser every day for 15 days; it you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin; don't eat anything with labels that say "fat free", "sugar free", or "low carbs". The stupidity just goes on and on and on. Oh, and I found this interesting - DON'T go to a psychiatrist or psychologist - DO dianetics/scientology. What a surprise! NOT!
As other reviewers have said, all of the "real" advice requires you to buy another book, or go to his web site, or subscribe to his newsletter. In fact, he has an entire chapter, called "The Solution" that involves nothing more than giving him more money.
My husband heard about this book on the radio and purchased it. Trust me, the paper it's printed on is worth more than this author's advice.
Amazon would not let me enter this review without giving it at least one star. I would give it none.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There are a handful of books I have read that have immediately affected my life, caused a change in behavior, or redirected me down a new path. This is one such book. Blue zones are those areas across the globe where pockets of longevity can be found. In blue zones, there are an unusually high number of centenarians living compared to other populations. In The Blue Zones, the author, Dan Buettner, explores four blue zones: Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; Loma Linda, California; and the Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica.

After reading about the lifestyles, eating habits, cultural customs, and social behaviors of the centenarians living in the blue zones as introduced in this book, it has made me realize how out of synch I am with the natural and spiritual rhythms of life. And I don't mean this in an "I am going to start making my own soap and hugging trees" context. I suppose it's more of a reinforcement of what I have suspected. I just couldn't put my finger on it until reading this book.

There are several lessons in the book and the author condenses them to nine lessons toward the end of the book. I suppose each individual will take away different lessons that will apply to them in their current time and place.

I can imagine what it would be like to get up with the sun, walk to work, and work with my hands, followed by a mid-day meal of local grown fruits and vegetables with several family members and friends surrounding me.

If you like red wine, Pecornio cheese, green tea, nuts, tortillas, fruits and vegetables, strong social networks, family and friends, a sense of purpose, a belief in God, walking, working, moving, fresh air, and sunlight, then you will probably enjoy this book.

A good read. The information is presented in such an interesting format, with personal stories along with the advice for longevity, that you forget this is a "health manual". Some of the advice is about diet and exercise, lifestyles and habits, but the best information comes from people's attitudes. We have a lot to learn!

I read Dan Buettner's book with great interest. He has spent much time studying "pockets of longevity" and his stories are informative and entertaining. We can learn much from the book, the value of caloric reduction, eating mostly plant based foods, working all your life etc.
From a scientific standpoint however, his approach is badly lacking. Studying an outlayer group (black swans) does not lead to valid conclusions for the majority. Summarizing commonalities (called "lessons, strategies")among four groups of centenarians does not constitute science. No doubt there are good conclusions, as mentioned above. But it also leads to "soft" conclusions (e.g. "explore a new tradition", "create family shrine", "be likable", "craft a personal mission statement".....), which are questionable. Good journalism, but mediocre science. But do buy the book.

WISDOM OF THE BLUE ZONES

Review Date: 2008-07-10
The "Blue Zones" are the places in the world where people live longer, healthier, more vital lives. This book reveals the wisdom of staying young as practiced in parts of the world where people enjoy long life-spans. Author, Dan Buettner, takes us to these cultures where people live the longest and healthiest and reveals their secrets by distilling them into practical tips we can use. The book combines the lifestyle choices naturally ingrained in these long-lived groups with the latest scientific research.

The book includes stories of people in their nineties and those who have lived beyond one-hundred from such places as Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; Loma, Linda, CA; and Costa Rica. The author observes how people eat, exercise, deal with stress, and view life. He also discusses the impact of their lifestyle on their health and longevity.

Healthy lifestyles and healthy choices seem to be at the root of what keeps people in certain cultures living healthy longer. The healthy lifestyle choices these Blue Zone people live under include eating vegetables; limiting sugar, fat, and meat; a high level of physical activity and physical labor though out their lives into old age; a plethora of social and familial relationships; and an ability to deal with stress through supportive relationships and physical activity.

Aging does not need to be a dismal journey into the abyss. This book is a great reminder that by making healthy choices in all aspects of our lives we can affect not only our lifespan, but our quality of life as we push past the century mark! Other inspirational books I also recommend are: THE 3:00 PM SECRET: Live Slim and Strong, Live Your Dreamsand THE BACK OF THE NAPKIN: Solving Problems and Selling Ideas with Pictures.

I give five stars to this book for a few reasons. First, being a young adult involved in the fashion industry, it is not easy to find answers out there that make sense. Of all the literature I have read on nutrition, dieting, and weight control, I feel this one is well rounded. There are no severe restrictions, no two week diet plans, and no extreme measures with results that do not last. I would feel comfortable recommending this to a younger crowd- teenaged group, or to an older more experienced crowd.

Pressure from outside sources are enough stress- we do not need to add the additional pressure form oursleves. One of the most important facts about this book was that it showed me what is right for myself may not be right for other people, and that is okay. Being true to yourself is one of the best ways to feel better, regardless of judgement and criticism.

After years of struggling with body image and disordered eating, I am starting to feel better. I have been practicing intuitive eating for 4 months now, and through the stress of graduating college, I feel pretty good! I realize that eating, as in what you eat, how you feel (or don't) when you eat, and how you eat, all reflect a deeper look into yourself. In this healing process, I finally realize it is no longer about losing weight. The point is to feel better, happier, and have more esteem for yourself and your body. I can say that I enjoy ice cream to the max now! By removing the deprivation and guilt, we release the need to stuff our faces (and our emotions). Thank you.

I liked this book so much that I bought four more for family members. The recipes are easy to prepare and delicious. The diet is very healthful.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a healthy alternative to "dieting"!

I am very disappointed in this book. The actual recipes make up only a small portion of the book. The rest of the book is the same stuff you find in any diet/healthy eating book; eat more vegetables, more whole grains and substitute this for that when eating out, etc. A chart of food counts. Health problems caused by eating wrong.

Then the actual recipes: Squid anyone? I guess it's called calamari, but never saw it in my local grocery store. And what is Branzino? Where does this guy shop for groceries?

Want to cook more the Mediterranean way? Take your favorite chicken recipe, make sure it has lemons or tomatoes, and around 5 Tablespoons of Olive Oil! Sorry, tomatoes and chicken don't work for me. So far not one recipe I tried out of here is a keeper for our family and I really wanted this to work.

Very informative!

The book shows common sense application ways to eat and live daily. Physical activity, vegetables, fruit, legumes, dairy, nuts and seeds, olive oil and wine - daily then weekly fish, poultry, eggs, lean meat, monthly - veg. oils, sat. fats, ref. carb. sweets! Living on an island they had a low cancer and cardiac problem. Hmmm! They were not overweight! Just following the first part stressing more veg. and fruit I lost weight fast! My skin looked better. It's easy. I noted my temper was better too! It's an easy cooking diet!

I originally bought this for a class and sold it back at the end of the semester. I soon realized that I wanted a nutrition book for reference purposes and after searching around, ended up buying another copy! I am a nursing student and find myself flipping through the text when I need a nutrition question answered or if I want to calculate nurtitional info. Get this book if you're looking for a solid, easy to understand nutrition text.

This is a keeper that's why it has a good resell value.

This is a really good nutrition book. You may find it useful to keep, if you plan on doing a good job of teaching "nutrition and diet teaching" to a patient. In nursing clinicals you will find yourself responsible for teaching diabetic diets, heart healthy diets, etc... Also you will want to teach why any one of these diets are important for the patient to know and practice. This is the book to help you do it.

The Very Best Nutrition Book

I own other nutrition books, and this is my favorite! In nursing school, my nutrition instructor, who was a registered dietitician with many years of experience, said that this was the best nutrition book on the market. Compared to the other books I have seen, I would agree. It is a wealth of information and includes both American and Canadian guidelines. There is a wonderful food composition table appendix included in the book that is very thorough nutritionally. The book covers carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and amino acids, digestion and absorption, metabolism and energy balance, overweight, underweight, and weight control, vitamins, water and minerals, nutrition through lifespan: pregnancy and infancy, childhood and adolescence, later adulthood, and many chapters on nutrition for health care issues such as renal failure, and diabetes mellitus. If I were not a nurse, I would want to own this book just for my own personal reference. I would advise anyone, whether in health care or not, to pick up a copy of this book.

My family has loved everything out of this book so far. My 8- year old is a hard sell so this is impressive to us. There is a wealth of very good, helpful information in the beginning of the cook book about why certain ingredients are used, if you don't have them how to substitute and general information about principles of cooking GF. Why didn't I give it five stars? The only down side is the need to make several different mixes in advance and have them on hand in the pantry so the recipes are much quicker at meal time. While this may seem to some a brilliant idea, and it is, it's not terribly effective for me since I forget to have it done ahead and am scrambling to make the mix and then the recipe which takes time. When I do have the mix handy it's really wonderful ... especially the waffles!

Wonderful recipes, lots of good ideas

This is the cookbook I chose to give to a newly diagnosed friend - great recipes, healthy and easy to find ingredients - and I like it so well I've pre-ordered her new book even though I don't bother to consult GF cookbooks that much any more. Fenster's oven-fried chicken is the best I've ever tasted, her lasagna doesn't require you to cook the noodles first, etc., and there are some imaginative dishes you don't normally see (even schnitzel!). Everything I've tried has been great. The only complaint I have about Fenster's book is that it would be helpful to have a chart giving ingredients for making 2, 4, etc. cups of her flour mixes. Her bread mix recipe makes 12 3/4 cups and includes 4 cups of another of her mixes as an ingredient - really a pain to calculate ingredients for the 3 cups needed to make her French bread. But I must admit the results are worth it. Her bread's very easy (especially if you have an electric oven - it rises while the oven heats) and has a great texture.

This book delivers . . . eventually.

First a warning, regarding anything you have to bake, it is not quick and easy the first time you make it. In fact, if you don't follow her suggestions and make a big batch of her flour blend, her baking mix blend, her yeast mix blend etc, and keep on hand in your kitchen, then this adds time and many extra steps to her recipes. I was not feeling too friendly to Carol until I tasted the end result, very delicious, very yummy, worth all the effort. I highly recommend her gluten free zucchini bread and her gluten free pizza. I am now a believer! Will buy Fenster's other cookbooks as well.

Great book except that unless you are cooking for more than 2 people there are too many flour mixes. Every section had its own flour mix. And the mixes were each about 8 cups of different flours and startches. The Cakes had a huge flour mix then the breads had one and the cookies had one. Being the only one in the family with celiac, I need to know just what small flour mixes go into a recipe. In other words, the other books have one or two basic base flour mixtures and then they add specific ingredients to make the recipe.

Not too bad. Has some very useful information on Juicing and on Fasting. It does go somewhat overboard with claims.
Overall quite worthwhile for anyone wanting to fast using juices.

This is tne most informative, well put together publication on Juice Fasting I've yet to see. It was a tremendous help to me on my most recent fast which lasted 12 days! I would recommend this thumbs up for anyone considering either a long term or a short term juice fast. Filled with all sorts of useful information on various situations one comes across while fasting. I've even stocked a bunch in my reception room (colon hydrotherapist) to sell to my clients!! One can sense the author has experienced first-hand all that he shares. Easy to read and understand. What are you waiting for? Order it now; you won't regret it!

I bought this book to better help me in managing my Crohn's disease during flare-ups. I pretty much bought the book based on the title and thought it would be helpful.

The author right off the bat says that if you are going to fast, you REALLY need to fast without ANY intake of food except water, but if you are going to juice fast, this is how you do it. He concentrated more on fasting than juice fasting, which seems to make this book title mis-leading.

He also goes as far as saying that self-purging (finger down the throat) may be required to purge the body of inpurities. Whoa, time out, that is a bit extreme.

I cannot give the book just one star, because there was some good information in there about fasting symptoms and other general tid-bits, but since this author has absolutely no credentials, I would seriously question anything he suggests to do.

Not a Receipe Book

This is an excellent resource on WHY fasting can be beneficial and how to best accomplish it - different types of fasing, the benefits and potential problems with each, and how to accomplish the fast. If, however, you're looking for a book with specific receipies to follow while on a juice fast, the book is light.
