I have to applaud Dr. Logan for this wonderful book. I'm normally not that interested in the science and don't really care for biology that much but this book presents the findings and studies in such a straightforward, concise and clear way. After reading this book, it is hard to debunk that diet somehow affects a person's proneness to acne.

This is something that anyone with some skin problem should read. Although it is a non-fiction, this book is not boring at all. It presents a wealth of relevant information throughout the book and is well worth the money.

Essential Reading!

I have struggled with acne for the past 19 years. During this time, I have tried almost every imaginable medical treatment. While I found some success, my acne always returned as soon I stopped the medication. I felt that there must be some connection between diet and acne for this problem to persist. However, I was never able to find a dermatologist to support this suspicion or point me in the right direction.

The Clear Skin Diet provided me with the research and understanding I had sought all these years. The research is thoroughly presented and accessible to the general public. After incorporating many of the authors' suggestions into my daily life I have seen a significant difference in the severity of my acne! I would recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with acne and hopes to make a lasting change in their lives.

Excellent advise, with medical backing.

In the midst of claims that diet and acne are not related, this book explains the interconnections between what we eat and our health, and the specific factors that affect the health of our skin.

One of the very best tips in this book is for the Zeno device. It REALLY works, be preventing breakouts from turning into full eruptions. We were sceptical about the claims for the Zeno until we read about it in "The Clear Skin Diet."

If you are having problems with acne, this is the book for you. Everything finally makes sense. I love how the authors broke up the book and included every aspect that would influence acne. They explain everything so well. I learned more about acne from this book then talking with my dermatologist! I never realized how a little life changes could clear my acne. This is a must have!!

With all of the 100's of cookbooks out there, don't bother with this one. The recipes are uninspired (although the pictures do look nice.)
My major disappointment with this book was the super moist chocolate cake. I love almost anything with sugar in it, and her cake was nearly inedible. It was rubbery, and had both an odd texture and an odd flavor.

I was looking for a healthy cookbook with quick and easy recipes and I stumbled upon this one. It is excellent!! She includes a lot of easy to understand information and tips in the beginning of the book. The recipes are super easy and don't taste like you're eating diet or health food. Specifically, "The Gazpacho Monterey" and "Spicy Potato Tacos" are delicious. I've even tried a few seafood recipes, and really liked the "Oven-Baked Catfish". I also tried the "Roasted Basil-Pork Medallions with Red Grapes" and was impressed. I never really thought of pork as healthy, but all the meat recipes in the book use the leanest cuts of meat and aren't prepared in heavy, fatty sauces. As for my favorite chapter, dessert, I found the "Triple Raspberry Brownies" are great anytime when I want to indulge. And I recently made the "Berries with Champagne Sabayon" for company and everyone was impressed. Great book overall!!

I completed my set of Sandra Lee books and this one was a surprise. I adore the recipes and tired of the chefs adding tons of butter and sour cream-this one is a relief.

My cancer nurse recommended this one to me & glad she did. Chemo exhausts me & I am able to shop for these easy recipes with the recipe cards & then the photos inspire me to eat.

I love this cookbook! I love Sandra Lee and her show, Semi-Homemade Cooking. I tape her show daily and I have a few of her other cookbooks. I love the idea of light recipes. I am trying to eat great food, but still enoy great flavor. Many cookbooks have "light" or "diet" recipes that include tons of ingredients, take hours to make/prepare, or have really expensive ingredients. Not to mention they often taste gross! This book has lots of ideas for great tasting food that is not going to kill your budget or your schedule. The recipes are practical and easy. I have tried a few of the recipes and I really enjoyed them. My husband didn't even realize he was eating "light" food. I had some friends over and made a few of the recipes and they all asked for the recipes afterward. My favorites include the mango and black bean salsa, sweet potato fries, the pizza recipes, and pears with almond and chantilly cream. I have to admit though, being a huge dessert person, I wish there were a few more light dessert recipes that didn't include liquor.

i bought this book a couple of years ago, because my partner is diabetic and i wanted to know how to cook for her. the recipes in here are all good, and sound delicious, but most are too involved to be practical for everyday cooking. more helpful would have been how to make regular foods diabetic-friendly. there are some good chapters explaining diabetes and carbs and all that, but the actual cookbook part could use some work.

What a difference.....

Recently, while home recovering from surgery and an infection, I decided to really "live" what I've been getting paid for to help my clients do. I've been a nurse over 27 years and a nutritional/fitness consultant for the last 2 years. I knew the infection itself was wreaking havoc on my body and organs. But the antibiotics I had to take, were far worse in making me feel "sick", than the infection or the surgery. I needed and very much wanted to re-boot, clear my cache, in other words, "detox", so when the infection was gone, I could begin again with a clean slate.

So I decided to detox by juicing. It would be the first time for me. Total juicing newby. Enter one Hamilton Beach 67650 Big Mouth Pro Juice Extractor.

At the same time, I found the Juicing Bible. I was quite impressed with the way this book is written. The authors give you information on so much more than "just juicing". The recipes are fabulous and the tips to the side of the page help to make things very easy to do and understand.

My favorite "tool" within the book is the chapter, To Your Health, where she specifies many different conditions/illnesses/diseases and gives you nicely detailed descriptions/how to's for each one. But the icing on the cake is the listing of juices, smoothies, teas and other recipes recommended for that particular condition/illness/disease.

I've made several different recipes so far and although I wasn't crazy about one of them, if you're a creative type, (or even a newby like me), you can modify the recipes by adding something similar, or by simply omitting the item. The combinations are endless.

As a total novice in juicing I found the Juicing Bible to be well written, user friendly and an awesome resource.

This book is great. The Juicing Bible contained all of the information I have been looking for. It contains more than just juicing recipes, but also breaks down what to stay away from as well as uses for herbs, fruits, and vegetables in relation to a specific ailment for example diabetes or female infertility. The recipes are so simple to follow that my children even make thier own smoothies, and they are both delicious and healthy recipes. If you are not in the mood for juicing or a smoothy, The Juicing Bible also has simple recipes for tea as well.

This book is really great if you are looking for something comprehensive. It covers the health benefits of all herbs, fruits and veggies and then gives recipes specific to each item as well as recipes for any health deficiency. I really enjoyed this book and feel that is great for a beginner juicer as well as experienced.

ABOUT HERBAL MEDICINE. MOST OF THE INFORMATION IS ABOUT HERBS. WHILE ALL OF THIS MAY
BE GOOD OR BAD, I WAS NOT EXPECTING HERBAL MEDICINE. HERBS MAY NOT HURT YOU AND THEN THEY MIGHT. I WAS JUST WANTING TO EAT BETTER. I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO TRY AGAIN.

While I completely agree with the authors concept of the 15 most nutritious foods to eat, I am disappointed at there only being 26 pages of actual information on why they are the best. The rest of the book gives you 300 recipes (That sound delicious)that you can use to create a healthy diet. The book is written for vegans with no animal products in any of the recipes. The pictures in the middle of the book make the meals look great. In the back of the book you will find a 7 day eating plan.
The 15 power foods are almonds, oranges, bananas, blueberries, onions, garlic, ginger, legumes, carrots, peppers, shiitake mushrooms, tomatoes, leafy greens, soy, and whole grains.

I recommend buying this book as a cook book after reading Gary Null's other books or after reading "Super Foods RX" by Steven Pratt his book goes into far more detail about why these foods are the best, "Super Foods RX" was a life changing book for me. This one is a cook book.

Gary Null's Power Foods: The 15 Best Foods for Your Health
Am i looking at the same book the other reviewers were? The cover and title are the same but there is not one color photo or any other picture in the entire book.
I am completely frustrated in finding recipes. It has NO INDEX!!! If I want to find an entree that contains one of the power foods, I have to flip through 49 pages scanning the ingredients in the recipes on each page. "Beverages" are even worse, 109 pages to flip through!!! This is a complete waste of time for someone who "loves to eat, but hates to cook" the audience to whom the book is dedicated.
With so many books about healthy eating available, I would not waste my time with this one. The power foods are simplistic and out of date. It claims to contain recipes ranked by how many of the "15 power foods" each contains and yet there are numerous recipes that do not include ANY of the listed foods. Why bother?

This is a perfect book for health enthusiasts everywhere. It contains
power foods , as well as sample recipes which implement the
preparation of the meals in the preferred mode. A strength of the presentation is that it is easy to read and emulate the health food preparations depicted. Sample power foods are:

o almonds
o oranges
o blueberries
o onion and garlic
o ginger
o legumes
o carrots
o whole wheat
o pepper
o Shiitake mushrooms
o tomato
o leafy greens
o soy

The book sets forth many easy-to-read food preparations for a large
constituency of readers; namely, heads of households, dieters,
nutritionists, physicians, athletes and food enthusiasts everywhere.

Sample food preparations are Lima Bean Seaweed Salad and Healthy Hijiki.
Each preparation is depicted with a picture and thorough description.
Soy is rich in protein. Oranges and blueberries have powerful
antioxidant properties. Ginger is a classic anti-inflammatory herb.
Additional information on the medicinal benefits which complement
health care planning may be obtained from listening to the Gary Null radio show.

The book is an excellent acquisition for the price charged.

I learned about the Schwarzbein Principle and eating program after buying supplements from the Women to Women website. I read the book and it made a lot of sense so I tried it. After 6 weeks I had gained 6 pounds (I was overweight to begin with). I phoned Women to Women for advice, and was told my body was adjusting to the new eating plan and would soon feel much better. After 10 weeks, I had gained 8 pounds. I felt sluggish from all the dietary fat and I just did not feel "right." I had no energy and I just felt unhealthy. I decided to stop eating all the butter, full-fat cream, fried eggs and the rest of the artery-clogging food in this program. Three weeks ago, I started on a new program that uses carb-cycling (Crack the Fat-Loss Code) and I have already lost all of the 8 pounds I gained on Schwarzbein, but more importantly my energy has returned and I feel 10 years younger already. Schwarzbein may work for many other women, but it was a bad experiment for me.

I feel that Dr. Schwarzbein is just interested in $$. Her old program doesnt sell that well anymore due to the fact that alot of people started eating GOOD carbs and went away from high protein/fat diets. She then had to modify the program to keep up with what people would actually read and buy. The whole adrenal burnout jargon sounds like a lot of hoopla to me and the way she says you have to be careful how you cook meat fat in order to not DAMAGE it, is just a tedious task that people do not need in their lives. PLEASE!!!! To me she lost professional credibility with this one.

A very disappointing read. There are so many opinions expressed in this book without further explanation ... it is pitiful. Example: the author claims we should not use the natural thyroid medication Armour. Why not? No further explanation is given. This is extremely annoying and therefore a complete waste of time. This book is going into the recycling bin.

As an avid reader of health and wellness books I looked forward to getting this book. However, I found this book to be trite and shallow. Not nearly enough detail to be beneficial and a constant reiteration of the same text over and over from chapter to chapter. The author mentions many complex topics, conditions and supplements in a very high overview manner. If you haven't read her earlier works and/or don't have a good understanding of the endocrine system and the effects of hormones on the body you will not gain much from this volume.

This is an excellent program and has helped me to feel better and lose weight on a diet I can maintain. It combines the best of low carb diets with lots of vegetables and some healthy carbs like fruits and grains. The cookbook is also excellent. I read The Program first and thought it was great until I realized I was not sure what to eat and what to avoid. Then I got The Schwarzbein Principle and found it MUCH easier to read and implement. I do not think there is much else to gain from reading The Program except some of the information on exercise and specialty diets (like gluten-free). However, the diets are downloadable for free on her website. I found The Program somewhat confusing and The Principle much more clear and concise.

Once I read Ann Wigmore's book on Wheatgrass it really sparked an interest in live food and health. Ann Wigmore is a true pioneer and has left such a gift to all of us if only we can open our mind to the concept of healthy nutrition. I wish her teachings were in every school and more people would gain the wisdom this wonderful woman made her life's work. If you are suffering from illness this is a great option..change your diet! It makes so much sense and to see people eating crap and then wondering why they are sick is so frustrating when the answers are in books like Ann Wigmore's. I have seen people go into remission from cancer from adopting this lifestyle..I pray the live food evolution will sweep the continent and more people can live a truly healthy life..I cant say enough about the changes it has made in my own life and the lives of others! I would also recommend a dvd called "Ann Wigmore's Living Foods Lifestyle" filmed at the Natural Health Institute in Puerto Rico..it is a hands on guide that shows you how to make meals, how to sprout, compost..so much interesting info and interviews with live foodists..I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was so much better watching a dvd and seeing things first hand. It is available through www.annwigmore.org

This is one of the few books out there which teaches you how to take charge of your health in a very simple approach. No matter if you need to loose weight, want to save money in the kitchen or have more serious health problems such as cancer or chronic fatigue; Ann Wigmore gives you a clear picture how to get started.
Basically it's all about enzymes which metabolize your food and which are needed for every function in your body. Without enzymes there would be no life in your body. Where do you find these enzymes? They are avaiable by eating fesh organic fruits, vegetables, sprouts and nuts/seeds.
After 20 years of trying diffrent approaches to become healthier, this is the most significant one I've taken. It really makes a difference. Do you ever feel tired or bloated after a meal? Try her recipes and you will feel light and energized afterwards. I can really recommend this book to everyone who wants to be healthier, happier and more loving.

Read, then act on this!!!

This book spells out easily and completely the way to take charge and improve your health now. If you never start, you will not begin to reverse the years of food, chemical, and environment poisoning that your body has become accustomed to leading to the onset of the major diseases and ill health conditions that his generation is experiencing in proportions never before known.

In conjunction with other Wheatgrass and Ann Wigmore books, I feel better without medicine or pharmaceuticals of any kind in only a few short weeks. I lost 15 pounds the first two weeks without strenuous dieting. My craving for sweets has disappeared without any thought or struggle. Understanding these simple practices of biology is made easy through these books fromthe Hippocrates Institute.

Like another review I read her, I really like Rachel Ray but the cookbook I can live without. First of all, the meals take over 30 minutes(which would be fine, if this wasn't touted as 30 minute meals), secondly I don't like to spend money on one ingredient I will only use once because to be honest the recipes were not all that great. But maybe I'll give it try again and break it out as it's been a few years since I used it!

I have tried 7 recipes so far out of this book, it is nice because a lot of the ingredients are easy to find for me, like EVOO and garlic. Some though were a little hard for me to find and I had to ask my Mother in law were to find them. 6 of the meals I made out of the 7 were a hit, but they all took over 30 minutes to prep and prepare. This is a good book if you do not mind having to look for occasional ingredients that you are not use too, and also if you have about 45 minutes to prepare and cook- with no interruptions. I should add that I have a baby in the home, so for me it takes an hour!

The book does a good job of covering the basics of the Zone diet. I needed to supplement the info with some items off the web, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

I've purchased 2 other zone books, the original and a recipe guide. This was my favorite of the 3. Often times you find in diet books, even the good ones, an overwhelming amount of information. Not to say this information isn't all true, but when I incorporate a diet into my busy life I expect or at least want it to be a simple transition. After all, we're only talking about food. A week in the zone provides simple, effective, and point blank guidance for the successful incorporation of the already proven Zone Diet, without all the fluff. It's an easy read and it makes sense.

A great read

Second only to The Zone, this book is thorough and can help you jumpstart your zone diet in only one week. Though it is not as intensive and the original Enter the Zone, it is more accessible and helps the reader begin a diet very quickly and easily.

Reading and applying this book to my life helped me change dramatically my lifestyle. I am a different person after reading Dr. Sear's book. My doctor had highly recommended I read this book and she was not wrong. I have the cure of my hormone unbalance. I have no mood swings and feel younger. If you are overweight and have tried everything you will find the help you need with this book. Try it....it really works!

This book is much more than just a list of carb counts. First, it teaches what carbs are, including the often confusing sugar alcohols. Then it gives you a choice of carb counting methods, from very basic to very technical. It teaches how to use each method, read labels, and estimate when necessary. There are food lists for each method and quizzes to make sure you're understanding the info. Of course, there is also a list of total carbs and fiber in 2500 different foods. I have been counting carbs for 4 years, but found new (to me) info in this book.

We have had several books on this topic but none have been as complete. This one book clearly teaches how to count carbs easily. There are exhaustive lists on foods and their "carb-counts". And there are even charts of many well-known eating establishments and how to count carbs when eating "in" or "taking out".
