While I completely agree with the authors concept of the 15 most nutritious foods to eat, I am disappointed at there only being 26 pages of actual information on why they are the best. The rest of the book gives you 300 recipes (That sound delicious)that you can use to create a healthy diet. The book is written for vegans with no animal products in any of the recipes. The pictures in the middle of the book make the meals look great. In the back of the book you will find a 7 day eating plan.
The 15 power foods are almonds, oranges, bananas, blueberries, onions, garlic, ginger, legumes, carrots, peppers, shiitake mushrooms, tomatoes, leafy greens, soy, and whole grains.
I recommend buying this book as a cook book after reading Gary Null's other books or after reading "Super Foods RX" by Steven Pratt his book goes into far more detail about why these foods are the best, "Super Foods RX" was a life changing book for me. This one is a cook book.

Gary Null's Power Foods: The 15 Best Foods for Your Health
Am i looking at the same book the other reviewers were? The cover and title are the same but there is not one color photo or any other picture in the entire book.
I am completely frustrated in finding recipes. It has NO INDEX!!! If I want to find an entree that contains one of the power foods, I have to flip through 49 pages scanning the ingredients in the recipes on each page. "Beverages" are even worse, 109 pages to flip through!!! This is a complete waste of time for someone who "loves to eat, but hates to cook" the audience to whom the book is dedicated.
With so many books about healthy eating available, I would not waste my time with this one. The power foods are simplistic and out of date. It claims to contain recipes ranked by how many of the "15 power foods" each contains and yet there are numerous recipes that do not include ANY of the listed foods. Why bother?

This is a perfect book for health enthusiasts everywhere. It contains

o almonds
o oranges
o blueberries
o onion and garlic
o ginger
o legumes
o carrots
o whole wheat
o pepper
o Shiitake mushrooms
o tomato

The book sets forth many easy-to-read food preparations for a large
constituency of readers; namely, heads of households, dieters,
nutritionists, physicians, athletes and food enthusiasts everywhere.
Sample food preparations are Lima Bean Seaweed Salad and Healthy Hijiki.
Each preparation is depicted with a picture and thorough description.
Soy is rich in protein. Oranges and blueberries have powerful
antioxidant properties. Ginger is a classic anti-inflammatory herb.

health care planning may be obtained from listening to the Gary Null radio show.
The book is an excellent acquisition for the price charged.

I have several meditation CD's by Kelly Howell. I go to sleep at night listening to one of them. It works for me. It works while you are sleeping. You don't have to be awake for these meditation CD's to work.

Please note that this version of the CD is abridged and perhaps that is why I feel it sucks and doesn't do 1/8 of all the wonderful things other people report after listening to their versions. It's just loud chimes. It is not guided meditation or anyone speaking at all. Just annoying chymes. Save your money.

I gave three stars because it's somewhat relaxing to fall asleep to, but I have lots of music that's better for that. I listened to this for three months straight, sometimes more than once in an evening and have not noticed any changes in actual weight, attitude, etc. I am not giving up and realize it takes more than a cd to get one going, but I did expect to notice something by three months.
Subliminal Brain Theta Wave Therapy

This is a subliminal reprogramming theta wave program. You can hear the pulsing sound waves mixed with beautiful soft and calming piano music. It is a vibratory CD, lasting one hour. (Theta is an excellent wave vibration to use for meditation. I personally like theta for certain meditation, especially meditation programs designed to implant knowledge.) The CD is by Kelly Howell and released by Brain Sync Corp. The music is by Robert Schwimmer. The cover claims that Kelly Howell is acclaimed for her pioneering work in healing and mind-expansion.
A tri-fold paper is included, which explains that Brain Sync generates whole brain synchronization and that listening with stereo headphones adds the ability to balance both brain hemispheres. Although it says you can listen to either of the 2 tracks anywhere, I do NOT recommend you listen in the car, unless you are a passenger and are using headphones. I find these types of programs are optimal for quiet meditation time or bedtime, and optimal with earphones. Depending on your job, you can play the CD at work (but, again, I do not recommend playing it if you are operating machinery. Sometimes these types of programs can make you sleepy.) I also firmly believe that you can play a subliminal CD at bedtime and fall asleep with it. Your subconscious mind should pick up the reprogramming, whether you are asleep or awake.
In this CD, you do not hear the 20 subliminal messages with your conscious mind. They are apparently imbedded in the background and are listed in the trifold. Some examples are: "Every cell of my body exudes beauty and health; I relax into my perfect weight; I burn fat; I am active and full of energy." The trifold advertises a couple of other subliminal CDs, if you are interested, including "Stop Smoking and "Deep Sleep". There is even one called "Attract Love" (ooo la la!) The trifold suggests that you listen to the CD every day for 6 weeks.
What do I think? I'm so glad that you asked. I am a firm believer in high-quality subliminal programming CDs. I have had a good deal of success with some of them. BUT, I have found you need to listen to them EVERY day for at least 30 days to effect a behavioral change. That's 30 days in a row, folks, so be ready to do that. Would something less work? Well, there are no finites (all things are possible), but, I think probably not. (The company recommends 6 weeks, so I would suggest you go with their recommendation because it is likely based on their studies with this material. )
Is this high-quality? I just started it myself, but I believe so, based on the vibration I feel and my past experience with these types of programs. That's why I am rating it a 5. I will be back with a follow up comment about the end of May 2008 or sooner.
By the way, these programs do usually start to work before the 30 day/or 6 week period concludes. You generally notice subtle differences in the way you think/react/behave. That is your indication that the subliminal material is beginning to work on you. But, one more time, in order to set patterns of behavior change in place, you really need to commit to the one hour a day, every day for the full period. If you listen more that that, you will probably achieve results faster.
There are no short cuts to losing weight that I am aware of. The "lose weight fast" pills that I have found, and the special diets, are only good for a few pounds, especially as you gets older and your metabolism is less active. Exercise helps a great deal, as does eating less calories and good foods (veggies/fruits/proteins). A CD like this one can help re-program your belief system to do the right things and keep you motivated in the right direction.

I just received this book yesterday and already I am over halfway through it. The plan makes sense and seems easy enough (so far) to do. I haven't gotten to the 5 factor food recipes yet...I'm hoping that they are as easy as the workout plan seems to be. Hopefully this will be the plan that I stick to and am able to see results with.

I like this book! The exercises will get you into top shape, whether sedentary or fit (it took a while for me to break out of the "more exercise, more fit" paradigm) - and the eating guidelines will also improve your dietary habits, from junk food addicts to health food nuts. I haven't struggled with weight but have found maintaining a healthy, fit lifestyle over the long term very challenging. He doesn't bombard you with too much information and also doesn't come off as being overly-strict. It results in you making informed and reasonable decisions that become intuitive and instinctual over time. I now live by his guidelines, abide by the no flour gospel and feel great!

As a bride-to-be looking to get in better shape before my wedding, I picked up 5-Factor Fitness after reading positive reviews online. I have been doing the fitness program for several weeks now and highly recommend it for people who are short on time and still want to get in a well-rounded work-out. Like other reviewers have experienced, I used to work out for an hour at a time and rarely break a sweat. With 5-Factor Fitness, I can really tell my body's getting a work-out.
That being said, there are a couple of things missing from the exercise program. First of all, as others have mentioned, there is no discussion of stretching, which definitely extends the work-out a few minutes when done properly. Also, given the metabolism of the average person, I highly suspect that additional cardio is certainly necessary for significant weight loss to occur. This program is really right for people who lead active lifestyles already and are just looking to "shape up" a bit. Given that this is what I was looking for, I have been highly satisfied so far.
In terms of the food plan, I was somewhat disappointed. First, the claim that the meals take only five minutes to prepare is absolutely false. Secondly, Pasternak says that you won't have to buy "special" or expensive foods. I'm sorry, but no-flour bread products are a) not easy to find in all locations, b) expensive, and c) tasteless! He also makes other contradictory claims, such as discouraging dependence on artificial sweeteners but including Splenda in multiple recipes. In addition, he mentions the negative impact of eating high G.I. foods and gives the example of dried fruit, and then includes dried fruit in his recipes as well. I'll stick to my standard low-fat, well-rounded diet, thank you!
All in all, I'd give this book a 4 1/2 for the exercise plan and a 3 for the diet plan. But, in my experience, it's well worth the buy for exercise plan alone!

I loved this book! I don't think there's anyone who would disagree that exercise is good for you. The problem is finding the time to do it. So what usually happens is, I start a fitness program and stay with it at first, but then I miss a day here and there and pretty soon I'm not doing it anymore.
That hasn't happened with "5-Factor Fitness." What makes the program so easy to stay with is that it only takes about 25 minutes a day, and you get Wednesdays and Sundays off.
The supersets really work every part of your body. Also, Harley Pasternak not only includes pictures of the exercises and a description, but he uses "mental cues" to make sure your form is correct. For example, for the DB pullover, his cue is "imagine throwing a ball in slow motion into the sky with your arms only slightly bent."
In addition to the workouts, he also includes 5-factor recipes which are healthy and can be made in 5 minutes or less.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has had trouble staying with a fitness program. It's easy to fit it in, and more importantly, it works!

Read the book and thought I would take more from it by listening to it. Stopping to write something down - as suggested on the dvd - is not "do-able" while driving of course. The book is good - I haven't tried the workbook, but many say it is nice to have if you don't want to make your own binder to do the exercises in. This is not the "End All" of diet books, but does have some very usable, everyday suggestions.
The author only talks in the introduction, not the entire book, which oddly enough I liked the author's voice much more as compared the the person who was hired to read it. The author just sounds more personable and real.

This is worth the money! I love the fact that it addresses the psychological issues surrounding overeating, and doesn't give prescriptive advice about what to eat. I already know what I should eat, but talking back to my self-talk that says "oh, go ahead and eat it and start tomorrow" is another story.
You won't be sorry you bought this. I highly recommend the workbook AND CD.

This is the best, most honest advice you'll ever get to help you lose weight. There is no food plan here. She tells you to pick a nutritionally sound diet, as well as a back-up diet, and stick to it. She will help you change your thinking to think more like a thin person with some writing and "thinking" exercises. It's cognitive therapy, and you will learn why you should tolerate some hunger and cravings because craving something usually isn't an emergency, and your next meal is only a short time from now.

This book has a ton of great insights about disease prevention. Doctors rarely, if ever, provide information on prevention because prevention is not profitable for either hospitals or big pharma. If everybody took a little more time to understand how their bodies work, we'd have a lot less disease in our society. Prevention is the key to good health and you truly are what you eat. We can't expect to fill our bodies with garbage and expect good results.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to live a vital, disease-free life. Read the book and buy a copy for someone you love. Don't rely on doctors to keep you healthy. You can only rely on yourself.
I also highly recommend The Coconut Miracle. If you do nothing else, please introduce coconut oil into your diet and you will see amazing results.

I have been fasting/detoxing for many years. It is a passion of mine, and I don't have many interests in my life that I consider passions. Fasting/detoxing, some have claimed, is a gift you give yourself. I truly agree with this proclaimation.
Of all the material I have read about detoxing...this is the most insightful, through, and overall, best source.
This book is not full of religious quotes like a lot of detox/fasting books, although Fife does mention that many religions believe in fasting for clarity and health. This is a more scientific approach.
There are a lot of pictures, the columns are set up in a fast-paced reading style, and the stories and inspiring.

I've read countless books on health and cleansing and this still stands up as one of the best I've read. It has more information than any other detox book I've read, and gave me invaluable new sources of cleansing and healing the body, which led me to new routes of research on the internet and finding some very excellent health web sites and products. *Spoiler* The rebounder works wonders for your health- along with so many other things Fife explained about. I highly recommend this book. I'm studying to be a Naturopathic Doctor, and did many years of research before choosing this route. This is a book I still pick up a couple of years later. I enjoy how much of the spectrum he covers. Health savvy or not, Fife walks you through changing your life, and educates you on many things every health-conscience person needs to know. Great Book !!

Interesting reading. Lots of little hints, & helps for losing weight. I did find that the list of foods for my bloodtype, especially the meats, were things that I do not like, consequently, I have opted for a low fat, low sugar diet with lots of exercise. I still recommend this book. I have learned lots of things about my health.

I practiced the O positive recommendations for a couple of years. The meat was hard to digest, especially the beef. The diet gave me arthritis in my joints. Older people and post-menopausal women should beware. Also, I found elsewhere that type O is among the most common types. If so, why are heavy meat eaters getting health issues related to diet? The statistics do no match up. It is an excellent marketing gimmick, but since switching to eating dairy and vegetarian, no red meat, my joints are much better. These books are dangerous and should be banned because there is no science to validate specifically these theories. Be careful folks. Anyone want to buy my books cheap? Type ) and overview. What a racket this doctor? or author? or publishing company? has come up with, sorry to say.

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia

This book is written by a male physician that was stricken down with fibromyalgia and has devoted his life to find a cure. His three daughters also inherited this disease. He claims he has found a cure (you need to read the book and/or possibly visit this doctor). And since there was such a stigma attached to fibromyalgia diagnosis a lot of useful information and help was swept under the rug by our physicians for many years. My mother is now deceased, but she went to many doctors for years complaining of this ailment searching for help. My mother was told that she was crazy and was sent home with pain medications and to suffer in silence! Now ALL of her four children have Fibro as well. I feel so bad that so many people (including my mother) are suffering needlessly because the male researchers of the past have left the fibro suffers down. It's a disgrace to anyone with connective tissue disease. People with fibro need to read this book! We're told that fibro is a "syndrome" because the medical industry just doesn't know what causes it. Which I find utterly offensive because when you live with this disease of severe pain over your entire body we certainly don't think or feel it's a snydrome!! The majority of fibro victims are females. If more males had this disease then the medical field would already know what causes it and there would be a definite cure! Just stating a fact. Come on doctors and researches!! I am sorry if I sound angry but the truth is I am very angry. And so should everyone else who has connective tissue disease aka fibromyalgia. You need to reach out to your doctors, nurses, researchers, and politicians to get something done to help! When you read this book you will see yourself and your siblings who also suffer. All the fragmented ailments start to come together and make sense. A must for your fibro library!

I read this entire book in one night. I have had fibro for most of my life and was diagnosed almost 20 years ago. I have read dozens of books on this subject and was completely prepared to try this protocol. I bought all the new cosmetics and soaps and even got my Guai but when I started reading the posts week after week in the guai support groups online I became very skeptical if this is the route I wanted to take. I suggest one signs up to the guai support groups BEFORE starting this protocol and really pay attention to what the people say. I find it odd that so many and I mean ALOT of the people are still taking loads of drugs along with this program and so many seem to be suffering well into the years instead of weeks or even months. If you read online in regular Fibro support groups this protocol does not have a high rating. I went on this protocol and for a month experienced the worst fibro symtoms of my entire life. Completely laying me out. Pain for an unknown period of time is to be expected but in the guai support groups you find that this pain on average seems to last for months and years. Didn't seem reasonable to me so I stopped and have now tried Dr. Teitelbaum's protocol called SHIN outlined in his book called From FATIGUED TO FANTASTIC and already am seeing a response by my body in the sleep and energy areas. Both are improving. What your Dr. May not tell you about Fibro is interesting and informative and a good read but I would highly suggest really listening to people who are doing this protocol online in the support groups and see what you think first before actually tring it.

This book is comprehensive and well written. This is an absolute MUST for anyone who thinks that they may have fibromyalgia. While the treatment may seem overwhelming at first, after you start doing it (taking the guaifenisen and stop using all salicilites), it's actually a very easy program to follow.
I was so inspired by the book that I made an appointment with Dr. St. Amand at his Marina del Rey office. In person, Claudia went over all the dos and don'ts in detaill.
This book and the authors have provided me ray of hope for fibromyalgia. I've been getting better through the program and without receiving perscriptions for major drugs, such as was recommended by previous doctors.
If you have fibromyalgia, do yourself a favor and read this book. If you can, go and see Dr. St. Amand in person. I'm reordering this book for a friend in Ireland who thinks she has fibromyalgia but has no access to such a great doctor like Dr. St. Amand.
You can also visit his website at: www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com. On the website, Claudia makes it very easy for people following this program by listing products that are salicilite free.

As to the book, another great Wigmore book with easy, clear and precise ideas one can readily put into motion...and soon be eating delicious sprouts all year long, using her funky recipes. If you're a city-dweller, she also explains how-to for apartment living. Great book to offer to any beginning living-foods vegetarian you may know. Good investment. Reasonable price.

The dietician at the VA Clinic in Lufkin TX says this is the best diet for anyone with high blood pressure. It is a low salt diet and helps a person to lose weight. The American Heart Association has endorsed this diet. It's mostly about portions and the correct amount to eat at each meal. I recommended this book to relatives who have high blood pressure.

Well, mine was one of those very very very difficult cases for physicians. In fact in my family has been a tradition of very high blood pressures. I have been sort of a buddhist meditator for years in the aim to help my high blood pressure, and I look in Taoism to see if I could find any help for it. Almost three or four weeks ago I received my manual to lower my blood pressure in 14 days. The main problem I had with it was that I had to translate the 67 recipes into spanish, as I live in Colombia, South America, so I just tried to resume the philosophy of the DASH diet, insisting in more fruits, vegetables, less red meat, very very very little sodium and much more dairy products than we usually do.
I decided to order the Dash diet manual the day I had a very severe crisis of blood pressure, 200/120, very early in the morning, even though I had been taking the days before maximum dosis of drugs for hyper tension prescribed by my physician.
So just use it if you have high blood pressures, and you will see the results by yourself!!! It really works!
Now I am just taking one drug, and my aim is to take none, as I had to suspend another maximum dosis of drug with dangerous side effects, as for the first time in my life I had a low blood pressure crisis.

The Dash Diet for Hypertension: Lower Your Blood Pressure in 14 Days--Without Drugs is a good book to learn about Hypertension but as far as the diet is concerned it is far too high in refined carbohydrates and not enough protein. Their diet would be very difficult and or dangerous for a diabetic. The diabetic would have to take much more insulin than necessary to follow the diet. And to lower the blood pressure 6 points is nothing in the total picture. So I would not recommend this book. I have a degree in nutrition and work with diabetics (my husband for one) all the time.
