This comprehensive book tells all about coconut oil. It will answer all your questions and then some. It will also explode all those outdated beliefs about oils and fats. I now know the properties of coocnut oil, specifically how it is beneficial to my health, and what to look for when buying it. A great book for my library.

The author is very thorough. Each point is well explained. A great "How To..." book. Coconut Cures: Preventing and Treating Common Health Problems with Coconut It has tons of preventative treatments as well as cures for all types of ailments. This book will assist the reader in making an informed choice. The only problem I had was finding enough fresh coconuts up here in the Northwest.

Excellent! Read everything by Fife.

"Atkins Diabetes Revolution", the book, is an absolute must read for anyone who has been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic, prediabetic or who has sudden high blood pressure, high blood sugar, poor blood lipid figures or who is just overweight. The Atkins approach is almost miraculous, I lost 17 lbs in about 8 weeks, threw away my blood pressure pills and saw my blood sugar come down to the high normal level in about 12 weeks. A couple of friends with similar problems are now seeing the same results.

I found this book in a reduced price bin at a dept store and bought it. It has been the best $5 investment ever made and is worth its weight in gold.

The diabetic information is easily understood and make sense to the lay person. I love the mealplans that are laid out and the recipes for the most part are excellent. Had to make a couple of adjustments on seasonings for personal taste, but have throughly enjoyed them. I make the full recipes that are for 4, measure the servings out, and freeze the other portions. That way I don't have to make the recipes every month. The meal plan allows you to choose between a 20, 40 or 60 carb day all at a glance. They have provided food lists so you can make your own plans when you want.

Thank you for this book, it has made my life as a diabetic soooo much better and easier.

You've just been diagnosed with type II diabetes. You're scared, confused, etc. This is the book to buy to help you through it. It goes through all the technical, medical jargon and makes it understandable to you, then gives you clear cut ways to improve your situation. Is changing your lifestyle easy? Nope, but then again, nothing worth having/doing is easy. I can tell you, though, that if you follow the directions in this book, not only will you not be hungry, but you will feel healthier than you ever have in your life. At least I do...and so do many of my co-workers, friends, etc, who follow Atkins. You really have nothing to lose.

My friend and I have been on this diet for about five weeks, and in that time I have lost 13 pounds and she has lost nine pounds. Be prepared to spend at least $400.00 the first month, then after the first month, it does not cost as much, as some things will be deleted from the menu, items that you may not care that much for and you can still stay in range of the amount of carb intake. The only problem we found is that the portion size for the meat is not mentioned, but we just used four ounces when meat was involved. We are on the 20 carb a day diet and at first you think that that is not enough, but after a few days, we found that we do not get hungry when we were not on this diet, and mostly the craving for food has disappeared. I would highly recommend this diet, and I am planning to follow it until I lose at least 40 pounds, then just eat sensibly from then on. I have already stopped taking Glucotrol, which one of the side effects is weight gain, and every week my sugars are dropping, and within the next four months I plan on not even being a diabetic any more, that is my goal.

I have found that the Atkins low carb diet is able to control my blood sugars and has allowed me to decrease my medications. I Think Dr. Atkins ideas are perfect for anyone with pre-diabetes or diabetes type 1 or type 2. Along with this, I also recommend Dr. Bernsteins books, The Diabetes Diet, and The Diabetes Solution. All are geared to us learning to monitor our sugars and eat accordingly. I have felt healthier, and my blood sugars are within a normal range since following the recommendations in the book. I highly recommend it, and wish the medical community would open their eyes to the results of following a low carb diet! After putting up with an awful cycle of being told to eat complex carbs, and watching my blood sugar increase from even oatmeal, and having my medications increased so I could eat the carbs the medical profession was telling me I needed, I finally found these books and learned. My blood sugars are almost normal now and my energy is great! Again, I cannot recommend these books enough to anyone who has pre-diabetes or diabetes.

Small little book with a big idea about dieting, painlessly. Have only been on the diet for not quite two weeks and it is working just as the book says. Less food fills you up so you leave food on your plate, the irresistible urge to snack has gone away, no longer feel the need to eat three full meals a day have quit constantly obsessing about food and what I will eat next. Have lost 4 pounds in two weeks with no increase in activity level or exercise. It may not work for everyone, but it is working for me, which is great. The first diet I have followed that I didn't constantly feel hungry or deprived. Really awesome.

Just another failed diet idea

Is it possible that there's secret diet where people are losing tons of weight and it's not the news of the decade if not century?? Um. No. Because this diet isn't a diet. It's another scam. Drink sugar water, lose weight. Drink oil and lose weight. Please. Don't buy into this crap. Eat an appropriate amount of calories for your size and activity level and stop putting money into this scam author's pockets. If this worked, the stories on every news channel would be non stop. You don't hear much about this diet because it's bogus.

The diet works for me-- 20 pounds in 10 weeks and holding steady nicely. Not sure how much is a direct effect of the oil, how much is reduction in snacking due to constraints on taking the oil, and how much is behavioral awareness due to dieting.
I also enjoyed the descriptions and discussion of formal research results a great deal, perhaps because I am a quantitative psychologist.

I started the Shangri-La diet three weeks ago and I'm already down to 225 from 245. I'm never hungry after small meals and I haven't felt this good in years. As an added benefit, this is the only "diet" out there that will save you money. The same dinners I used to eat in one sitting now last me two or three meals and I always have a doggy bag full of leftovers when I go out to eat.
The SLD regimen sounds strange at first but this book explained it well enough for me to try.

It works. Really.

I've been using the oil for about three weeks and it seems to be working. I eat anything I want but I get full or even feel stuffed on less food. I've lost about 8 pounds with no deprivation which is good because I don't do deprivation.

If you try it, don't tell anyone because they will think you are crazy. Wait until they ask what you are doing to lose weight. Until they see the results, they won't believe it. Good luck.

Gary Null's Power Foods: The 15 Best Foods for Your Health
Am i looking at the same book the other reviewers were? The cover and title are the same but there is not one color photo or any other picture in the entire book.
I am completely frustrated in finding recipes. It has NO INDEX!!! If I want to find an entree that contains one of the power foods, I have to flip through 49 pages scanning the ingredients in the recipes on each page. "Beverages" are even worse, 109 pages to flip through!!! This is a complete waste of time for someone who "loves to eat, but hates to cook" the audience to whom the book is dedicated.
With so many books about healthy eating available, I would not waste my time with this one. The power foods are simplistic and out of date. It claims to contain recipes ranked by how many of the "15 power foods" each contains and yet there are numerous recipes that do not include ANY of the listed foods. Why bother?

This is a perfect book for health enthusiasts everywhere. It contains
power foods , as well as sample recipes which implement the
preparation of the meals in the preferred mode. A strength of the presentation is that it is easy to read and emulate the health food preparations depicted. Sample power foods are:

o almonds
o oranges
o blueberries
o onion and garlic
o ginger
o legumes
o carrots
o whole wheat
o pepper
o Shiitake mushrooms
o tomato
o leafy greens
o soy

The book sets forth many easy-to-read food preparations for a large
constituency of readers; namely, heads of households, dieters,
nutritionists, physicians, athletes and food enthusiasts everywhere.

Sample food preparations are Lima Bean Seaweed Salad and Healthy Hijiki.
Each preparation is depicted with a picture and thorough description.
Soy is rich in protein. Oranges and blueberries have powerful
antioxidant properties. Ginger is a classic anti-inflammatory herb.
Additional information on the medicinal benefits which complement
health care planning may be obtained from listening to the Gary Null radio show.

The book is an excellent acquisition for the price charged.

It's general - but if you are a person that is starting from the beginning, it does let you know what products you can eat or not eat. It does give name products to buy that I have never seen in a grocery store? I will forward this book on to someone who can really use it.

I have used about 15 recipes so far and liked everyone of them. Sometimes it is hard to get the same results(with texture)compared to cooking with allergenic foods(such as butter), but that is to be expected. I have used coconut milk for the creamy-based soups, which works very well. Also, she gives you guidelines if you want to switch out an ingredient to a more allergenic one(such as eggs), since for an example my daughter is not allergic to eggs. And Finally...there is a good variety of recipes to choose from and most require ingredients that I typically keep on hand. Word of caution...not a gluten-free cookbook

I have 2 sons with ADHD who are on the GF / CF diet. I was hoping this book would provide some new recipes for our family - there are some that we have found - but most of them take a while to prepare. Two of my favorite books are The Gluten-Free Vegan: 150 Delicious Gluten-Free, Animal-Free Recipes and The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook: Whole Foods Recipes for Personal and Planetary Health. Both books have tons of healthy recipes that are gluten, dairy, and egg-free!

Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?: An Easy Plan for Losing Weight and Living More

Clutter Makes Your Life FAT
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-09
This book goes beyond Peter Walsh's "It's All Too Much". In that book he focused on the clutter in our homes. This time he deals with that clutter first and then on how it affects our "butts." He maintains that if our lives are filled with clutter then our eating habits are probably chaotic and filled with excess and junk too.

Walsh delves into the kitchen to clear it of useless gadgets and food clutter.

I especially like Walsh's one size does NOT fit all approach, "You'll notice that I'm not being specific about foods you keep and what has to go. when it comes to healthier living one size does not fit all. We are individuals, and you need to make a commitment to decisions that work for you." And, "We both know you are perfectly aware of what you should and should not be eating. So enough of the charts and tables and portion measuring devices that clutter your life."

His book is packed with great lists to work through, and tons of practical, encouraging tips and some obvious but perhaps forgotten lines:
Chew your food
Eat your vegetables
Get a good night's sleep
Don't fill up on bread
Don't talk with your mouth full
Your eyes are bigger than your belly

His food clutter principle, "Recognize and celebrate every meal you enjoy. It will remind you of the great things a meal provides, beyond just the food." Walsh even pays homage to the practice of saying grace before a meal, "The expression of common prayer forced everyone at the table to stop, pause, and reflect."

He ends with some really terrific "Don'ts":

Don't start with the "stuff", start with a clear idea of the life you want to be living.

Don't obsess. I care about you. I can't stand the idea of your turning into one of those people whose whole life is spent figuring out how not to eat a single potato chip.

Don't count calories or eat fake foods or go to someone's house for dinner and tell them you brought your own meal.

This book is really encouraging and really practical.

Great book!

The book is a common sense approach to the physical and emotional clutter in your life. Peter doesn't give you "3 easy steps" or "17 ways to fixing things" but rather knowledge that we all have already and for some reason choose not to focus in the right direction. i never associated clutter with weight gain before and it has some merits :)

This is a great book and anyone who picks it up will benefit in some way, big or small, depending on how far you follow his lead. I bought this book along with his other one "It's All too Much!". I suggest reading the first book, then this one because it sets the ground work and you'll get an understanding of where he's going. It was so freeing to get rid of stuff in my cupboard that "maybe I'll make someday". I had pudding in there that was 10 years old. I then made menus, and did grocery shopping. I made what I shopped for, and with the exception of buying fruit /veggies and sandwiches one night, we had enough for a week and a half! This is because in the book he tells you not to bring in anymore stuff until you finish what you have, or use it to plan the next week's menus. This is a great way to save money and be more thoughtful about what you're making. I've only had the book for a month, so whether I'll lose anything remains to be seen. I have dieted since high school. I know tons about nutrition, portion sizes, fat, calories, exercise, etc. This book is not going to give you the latest and greatest fad. It is about getting to the bottom of what's in our kitchens and clearing our heads to focus on what we all know about healthy diets and nutrition.

I almost never return anything to Amazon. But this cookbook went back the day after I received it.

After having weight loss surgery I need to focus on a high protein diet. Though I am fairly creative in the kitchen I thought that it would be nice to not have to figure out calories, protein counts, etc., and also to get some variety into my diet.

This wasn't the right cookbook for that. Though the recipes ARE high protein they are not low calorie or low fat. Though the subtitle reads '500 calories or less' many of the recipes are approaching the 500 calorie mark, which is more than I want to "spend" on one meal (and this is just the main dish, not anything else).

Many of the recipes could have had their calories reduced and their nutrition improved by substitutions: milk instead of cream,low-calorie spread instead of butter, Splenda instead of sugar, for example. (Yes, I could do that on my own, but then I defeat the purpose of already having the nutrition information available.)

Though I believe the recipes are probably very tasty, this wasn't the cookbook for me.

Thank you Julie! It has been one year since the birth of my second child and I will now be able to wear a bathing suit...a bikini..this summer. After I gave birth to my first child, I thought there was no hope of getting rid of my post-baby pouch. I tried Pilates and situps which did not help (and now I know only made my diastasis worse). I gave away all my post baby clothes since I figured that I would never fit back into them. Thankfully, I read an article about the Tupler technique prior to the birth of my second child. A week after my daughter was born, I started my exercise program using Julie's techniques. My diastasis was a 5! You need to be disciplined- wear the splint and work up to 1,000 stomach squeezes each day-but the results are worth it. If I rebel and do not do my exercises, I immediately feel my stomach starting to distend. I am so happy to have my pre-baby figure back. I did not think it was possible without surgery. Julie's book and DVD should be handed out during all childbirth seminars. I highly recommend watching the DVD and if possible attending one of her seminars. Leslie, NYC

I had 3 kids in under 2 years and my muscles were at least 3 fingers separated. I highly recommend this book - it has a really lite workout program thats easy for postpartum and it really helps you work your transverse muscles. It really a rehabilitative exercise and very therapeutic. She really does know her stuff. Its a great present to any mother, and even just someone who has very weak stomach muscles. I highly recommend it.

If you really want to get rid of your "mummy tummy" and can't figure out why, thousands of sit-ups later, the rest of your body has returned to normal with the exception of your stomach, "Lose your Mummy Tummy" is the ONLY book you'll ever need. Guaranteed. You most likely have something called a diastasis, which is essentially a separation of the outermost abdominal muscle. This is a very common problem for women (that often gets worse the more children you have) that can indeed be repaired. You probably can't pronounce "diastasis" yet, but when you get through reading this treasure of a find, you will be repeating it enthusiastically to everyone you meet and be a total convert - complete with flatter belly!

Three months ago I was considering a tummy tuck. But in just weeks after doing the simple series of exercises recommended in "Lose your Mummy Tummy," and ALWAYS looking five months pregnant with my formerly perennial pooch, I am close to looking like I did pre-pregnancy with my first son! Family and friends have been astonished and people I meet now don't even believe I've had children, let alone three - I love and adore this reaction as it is the greastest compliment and testament to the book! Hands-down, this is the most fantastic purchase and investment I've ever made towards my body and well-being. The results have been phenomenal for such a short period of time and the positive habits I've formed will be with me for a lifetime. Follow the simple instructions and movements presented and you will be absolutely amazed by the results!

Lastly, at first I thought it was totally unfair to have some woman on the cover who had never had kids. It turns out, this is an ACTUAL MOM who formerly had a diastasis. So give up that tired, old collection of exercise and workout programs that has left everything but your belly flat, and get your stomach to where you really want it to be with "Lose your Mummy Tummy." No doubt you will be writing a stellar review like me in no time.

It really works.

I'm always surprised at the number of women I talk to that have no idea what a diastisis is, and can't believe this isn't talked about more in pre- and post-natal visits. I knew nothing about this until doing an internet search after my first daughter was born, and I was determined to get my six-pack abs back. If you're serious about losing your mummy tummy, this book is worth the investment. I also own the DVD and the splint, which I wear religiously (even as I type!). The exercises Julie Tupler prescribes really work. They did with my first daughter, and I can't believe how quickly my stomach is flattening with my 2nd. Doing these exercises takes time as another reviewer mentioned, but you can knock them out while nursing or driving your car - no problem. This book, DVD and splint make a nice package for any woman that has just had a baby and is anxious to get her body back.

I did not find this book to have any "solutions." It was simply the usual self-help book which never goes to the root of any problem.

I love this book. I'm actually still doing the exercises in the book. I believe there are almost 90 exercises. Geneen requires you dig deep. The first few days of doing the work, I was a mess. I have used food to not deal with my emotions for so many years, that it actually brought me back to my emotional self as a teenager. My first diet started when I was 15 at 102 pounds! I had went over that 100 pound mark then, started my first diet, and never dealt with my emotions after that unless it involved food. I'm almost 40 years old now and thought this vicious cycle would never end. The more I dieted and deprived myself, the more I weighed in the end.

My mom told me about Geneen Roth when I was in my early twenties and she stopped dieting then and never struggled with food since, but I couldn't give up that the next diet would be the miracle that I needed! I was at most lowest point recently and read another book of Geneen's 'When Food Is Love.' I was hooked! That book was a great read, but this allows you to do the work.

I've finally given up the word 'diet' in my vocabulary, in my life.

This book is not what I expected. It's more of a "workbook" instead of a book to read. I was thoroughly disappointed.

Having struggled with an eating disorder for the past 10 years of my life, I was certain that I would never have a healthy relationship with food again. But, then a good friend gave me Geneen's book, and I have not looked back since on those doubtful thoughts. This is a truely incredible program that, when followed and supplemented with Geneen's books "When Food Is Love" and "Feeding the Hungry Heart", can and will take the word "diet" out of your vocabularly forever. I have never felt better about myself and have never actually lost weight while still eating anything I wanted.
