The price is right and the information is very eye-opening.
I have read most of the book and it made me feel that weight loss was possible.
It was easy reading and I liked how they had it structured with the different myths of lossing weight. This is probably a re-reader to keep you focused on what is important!!!
I highly recommend this book to anyone that has weight to loose whether it is a lot of weight or just a little bit of weight.
I'm now lost almost 40lbs since mid-February. I am a real reader and believer in this book. I still have a ways to go, but will keep pulling this book out and others to keep motivated and ontrack.
You'll want to get other books to supplement this book. And keep you on track.
Best wishes on improving your life!!!! And health!!!!

You can forget the herbs, supplements, enzymes, and stress and fat blockers. The few prescription diet pills that work have side effects worse than the cure. If there is anything easy about weight control why do we have record obesity and more and more gastric bypass surgery? The low fat and low carb diets are just gimmicks akin to the grapefruit, boiled egg, cabbage soup and drinking man's diets. These diets may work short term, but they're not substainable. How many grapefruit can you eat and for how long? Bottom line, it's all about calories in - calories out, regardlesss of what you consume to get the calories. Losing requires a calorie deficit, more calories out than in. EXERCISE! An OK book, but really a 200+ page solicitation to join Weight Watchers.

THIS BOOK OFFERS ONE VERY REAL WAY TO TAKE OFF WEIGHT, AND KEEP IT
OFF PERMANENTLY!

Unfortunately for most of us, though, the formula involved, (Oral Hgc), is incredibly expensive. ($149.00 for a three months supply, at Mr. Trudeau's website.) It is not, however, as expensive as the INJECTED form, which is available only at a secret German clinic, visited by the rich and famous, who wish to lose weight as much the rest of us do!

Mr. Trudeau gives the true-life history of this mysterious substance, and it reads like an international espionage thriller! Mr. Trudeau is truly brave at giving out this history -- and other secrets. He states, inside, that he USED to be part of an international, secret organization called "The Brotherhood", which gave him many privileges and perks. But one day, he decided he did not want to belong to it any more. On the cover flaps of the hardcover edition's dust-jacket, it is mentioned that Mr. Trudeau is the only person, so far, to have left this organization and stayed alive (!) -- but that doesn't mean that his life has been made easy.

By selling his books, (which have become best-sellers), and giving the general public these once hushed-up weight-loss (and other secrets), Mr. Trudea has obviously amassed a fortune....WHICH I BELIEVE HE NOT ONLY TRULY DESERVES, BUT ALSO TRULY NEEDS....for I don't think "the Brotherhood" has at all forgiven him. Mr. Trudeau -- born in Canada -- is not only a North American, but a world hero, in my estimation. But, of course, his reputation has been besmirched, damned, and dragged through the mud. I really don't think "the Brotherhood" dare kill him -- because doing so would raise his status from hero to martyr, and those who have doubts as to "The Brotherhood's" reality and existence, would then know it to be real. So -- Mr. Trudeau lives with a bad reputaion for many....but I think I know a hero when I see one! : )

In this, and his other books, Mr. Trudeau gives MANY ways to get thin. Among those I use are eating only between 6:AM and 6:PM, (I try to stop eating at noon, when I can), and adding apple cider vinegar. and flaked or ground hot red pepper, to whatever you can, and in as great, (or small) an amount as you can. I have lost 20 pounds this way, and have kept it off for a year! (In fact, one day, I ordered three 14-inch pizzas, and ate them all before noon. I ate nothing the rest of the day, (but did drink some tea, coffee-latte, and lemonade, all sweetened with Splenda, s-l-o-w-l-y.) I did NOT gain one ounce, that day!

Mr. Trudeau meantions that a certain (real), Princess has gone on the HCG protocol. She was fat -- all the European tabloids had pictures of her -- then, suddenly, she was thin! No one knew why. People in America may doubt this story -- but I've always been fascinated by royalty, have read about them, past and present....and I think I know which Princess Mr. Trudeau is talking about. She is a real person. She has had a problem with her weight that has been publicly followed. She has tried everything -- and I do mean EVERYTHING. Then, she tried HCG -- and it
worked! (And I don't know this for a fact....but I'm pretty sure, on my own, that she ALSO used the "eat before 6PM", and "add apple cider vinegar, and/or red pepper flakes", methods, and some other of Mr. Trudeau's methods, as well. Anyway, she is now delightfully slim and quite beautiful! You can be too, (handsome, of course, for men), if you follow these, and other methods listed in this, and Mr. Trudeau's other books.

If anyone doubts that Mr. Trudeau is a true hero, they should look at his latest book. It is called "DEBT CURES", and in it, he says, very truthfully, that "being in debt is a kind of slavery." Anyone who has either been in debt, or who has feared it, knows this to be very, very true. Obviously, from his book's profits, Mr. Trudeau is quite wealthy now himself. But he continues to care about us "little people". Because he considers each of us to be, not a "little person", but a human being, like himself (!)

To me, there can be no braver person, no greater hero. Read this book -- and lose weight -- like the rich and famous do -- for good, and for the rest of your life!

Thanks, Mr. Trudeau!!!!!!! : )

I read this book after watching the informercial on it. I thought it would help, but if you can afford to have a drug injected into you like he did, (which he went overseas to get the injections) then it might be worth it. Just plain junk and a waste of money!!!!

I ordered this book after seeing the infomercial. It is very misleading, his solution is to use a drug available only overseas. I returned the book within the time period and after calling the 800 for a return code. This took 15 minutes of hold time and I didn't get my money back. Not worth it!

Dramatic weight loss

Review Date: 2008-03-04
After reading this book three times, I finally decided to give it a try. Well, my weight loss was absolutely fabulous. Everything that Kevin said was in fact true. Yeah, it is a 500 calorie a day diet, but you do not get hungry. What you do feel is that you miss food. But, if you drink the teas recommended, they give you energy, speed up your metabolism and give you a sense of wellness. You can actually taste the medicinal properties in them. What I found interesting is that in those six weeks, I lost about 30lbs. It was very dramatic because all my friends talked about how much of my stomach was gone, but most importantly how healthy that I looked. About the same time, I noticed coworkers loosing weight. And, as Kevin mentioned in the book, they lost structural fat and not excess fat as I did. They did not look well to me. But I looked fabulous. At the end of the six weeks, interestingly enough I had no desire to binge. I did not run for the chocolate. I still eat it, but I truly made a lifestyle change. To date, I have managed to loose 65 lbs. Once you understand WHY you are fat, it is far easier to loose it. Kudos to Kevin.

To get the hCG shots that he recommends, you can find out where to get it on his website. I got mine from a pharmacy in Florida.

Dubbed "the Food Dude" by Oprah, Dr. Steven Pratt believes that health is a "web," a complex synergy of information, motivation and good habits, with good nutrition as its cornerstone.

In this sequel to his bestselling "Superfoods Rx," he offers the first two, so readers can establish the third. His approach is holistic, dealing with sleep, stress management and exercise as well as those crucial disease-fighting foods and antioxidants we've been hearing about. It's lengthy, and sometimes unwieldly, but it's also inspirational and highly informative.

My doctor recently diagnosed me with diabetes in addition to my longstanding problem of high cholesterol and high triglycerides, which was also affecting my liver. I was quite overweight but didn't really care until that point - there's always tomorrow to lose it, right? He put me on a cholesterol and triglyceride lowering medicine and told me I needed to lose weight. This time I took him seriously, and I also read SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle. I started exercising (walking) and eating healthy by following these two books' recommendations. So far I've lost 31 pounds without feeling deprived or going on some weird diet. I feel great, my diabetes is well controlled, and my cholesterol, triglycerides and liver function are in terrific shape now. The Super Foods have found a permanent place in my diet, and exercise a permanent place in my lifestyle. Thanks to these two books I believe I've saved my life and will enjoy better health over the long term. I've sent them to my brother to help him make the changes he needs for the same reasons. I highly recommend SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle!

Library book worth purchasing

Review Date: 2008-05-08
First checked this book out at the library but needed to return it and so I bought it. This has been the best plan I have tried. Many plans claim that you are not hungry, I wouldn't need a plan if I only ate when I was hungry, with this plan I don't crave sweets. This is a huge change for someone who planned meals dessert first. I have made desserts for 3 parties to serve to others and haven't even taken a bite and not even had an interst in doing so.

I over look all the evolution and cave man type information but the other information makes sense. So far I have lost inches and weight. I recommend this book.

Although She's Not Hip On Low-Carb Diets, Dr. Lydon Still Delivers A Good Book
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-30
When you look as good as the author of this book does, it's difficult to argue with the results. She's a perfect example of how her program can do exactly what the title of her book suggests. And I LOVE Dr. Lydon's emphasis on the fact that this isn't about going on a diet--it really is about changing your life through simple changes in your current habits. This is the only way to achieve a permanent lifelong solution to your weight and health issues. The best part is she understands the importance of eating like our early ancestors making sure we get adequate protein in our diet to aid muscle growth which leads to the burning of stored fat and she articulates beautifully why consuming fat will have a "slimming effect" that most people have no idea about because they are scared witless about eating any. Unfortunately, when it comes to carbs she's not quite on the same page as most low-carbers are and describes a low-carb ketogenic diet as "a recipe for disaster." That's too bad, but you might be interested in reading this book to see her reasons WHY she believes that as an intellectual exercise in challenging what you believe. Although she wasn't very flattering towards low-carb diets, Dr. Lydon does show how you can give your body a good workout without lifting a single weight or going to the gym (using your own body weight instead). It's not a bad book overall, so you might want to check it out.

Highly Recommend! A Life Changer

Review Date: 2008-06-01
I HIGHLY recommend this book! It was a life changer for me. Thanks to the food plan, I no longer suffer from extreme carb cravings, brain fog, or being extremely cold all the time. Those symptoms are gone! It also is great for my IBS. Not to mention, the amount of energy I have is through the roof. Hallelujah!!!! Notice I said food plan? Dr. Lydon walks you through a diet where you eliminate certain foods at the beginning and slowly add food groups back in over a period of 6 weeks checking for adverse reactions to foods along the way. Each phase is nutritionally complete. I already knew I was allergic to gluten, but also found I'm reactive to soy and cow milk. Now I'm eating foods that benefit my body rather than causing low levels of inflammation. The crazy thing is I don't crave the foods I've eliminated. I can now walk into the kitchen anticipating a delicious meal where I'll feel satisfied rather than dreading I'll blow my diet by eating too much or munching on sweets.
The exercise routine hits all body parts and my muscles have developed faster on this program than any other I've tried plus it very fast and great for people who have little time. Dr. Lydon clearly explains why long term cardio workouts and carb/calorie restrictions (i.e. carb deficit) do not work and can actually set your body up to become fatter. She explains the myths surrounding calorie burning (how our bodies handle protein, fat, carbs differently and how it adjusts to exercise) and why your body can handle 1 cup of nuts per day and still loose inches. She bases everything on scientific studies, which are quoted so you can read them for yourself. I greatly appreciated her friendly writing style and felt her explanations were clear and concise for the average lay person. The appendices in the book summarize the exercise/food/supplements for each week. The food selection is huge plus it is so simple to do. You do not have to measure, count calories, points, etc. It is very liberating!
Dr. Lydon also started a forum (same name as the book), so people can ask questions and share results/experiences or any problems their encountering. There is also a recipe section and many members of the forum are food geniuses!
Oh, and best of all? You will loose inches and reshape your body. I certainly did! For motivation, just read the success stories on her website. Good luck to you!

Easier Than It Sounds!

I agree with the reviewers who say that this is a fantastic program. However, I'd like to point out that the time for meal preparation on this plan isn't any different than "normal" meal preparation unless you get every one of your meals through a drive through (and even then, you need to consider the time it takes to get there and sit in line). I've actually found bringing meals to work takes no more time than before I started the plan. Before starting this plan--breakfast bar, soup/microwave entrée, munchies. On the plan--boiled eggs, fruit, veggies, can of tuna/left-over chicken breast, salad dressing. It takes the same amount of time to shop, prep, stuff it in a bag, and get out the door. I boil eggs in a big batch, peel them, and grab them as needed for breakfasts and salads. I cook extra protein at dinner and bring it for lunch. I've also noticed many stores in my area sell boiled, peeled eggs and cooked, sliced chicken breasts. How convenient is that? How hard is it to swap a candy bar for an apple?

The first week of the exercise routine was difficult. Someone who is out of shape will not find this "easy," but the exercises are do-able, and being able to go from 1 push-up to 10, even though it doesn't seem like much to "fit" folks, is motivating. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? :)

If you're looking for a "quick fix," this isn't for you. If you are looking for a plan that will change your life and your relationship with food, get this.

This 6-week program provides 6-weeks of meal plans, 35 recipes, and 20-30 minutes of exercises you can do at home using hand weights. The book includes Dr. Lydon's dietary guidelines and exercises with photos. Her dietary recommendations and the promise that her diet and exercise program will increase your metabolism are supported with scientific explanations. You should be in decent shape to do the exercises, which include weight training and calisthenics that can be done with hand weights.

The diet requires time for meal preparation and does not allow fast food. The diet is not vegetarian. It emphases eating lean protein, fruits, and vegetables. It also suggests reducing dairy and grain-based and high-glycemic carbohydrates. The diet provides recommendations for specific foods, portion sizes, and meal frequency. It consists of 3 meals and 3 snacks per day with each meal including 10-12 oz. clear fluid, a serving of lean protein, and a serving of fruit or vegetable.

Great introduction to pranayama by reviewer who delivers workshops on these types of topics
Helpful Votes: 25 out of 26 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-13
I am a personal growth coach who is educated in biology, biochemistry, biofeedback and psychology. I give workshops on stress management, coach executives on this topic and also do workhshops that combine these techniques with biofeedback. This gives you some background on me and my perspective that I'm writing this review from.

As someone who works with these techniques and sees the results via biofeedback with myself and others, I highly recommend this very inexpensive book as a brief overview and introduction to the topic. The author covers a lot of ground in a small space and the instructions are clear and simple.

If you practice these exercises as they are explained, they will cause effects in your physiology. Regulation of the breath is very tied to the nervous system and to heart rate variability which correlates with resilience. If you buy this book and get serious about a practice, I would pick up some additional material to augment this text such as the SCIENCE OF BREATH and THE LIGHT ON PRANAYAMA. The first of these is a more Western explanation by a respected yoga institute and the second is a classic text with a lot of detail.

I also highly recommend getting a home biofeedback program such as FreezeFramer or Healing Rhythms. You can read the descriptions of each and determine what is best for your needs. However, this additional step will really heighten your awareness and help you to develop more control over your internal states.

Instead of wasting money on Iyengar's books, this is safer, simple way of doing PRANAYAMA. This book is worth it's weight in gold.

Alternet Nostril Breathing is the best for weight loss, however Ujjaini works, too, but little slowly.

Following are two techniques:
Alternate Nostril Breathing
(Anulom Vilom Pranayama with no breath retention) This pranayama (control breathing) is done with alternate breathing from the left and right nostrils for cleansing of Nadis. (energy meridians). Seated in a convenient posture, start off with slow inhalation from the left nostril first by closing the right nostril with the middle of right hand thumb ,and after fully filling the lungs, (not the belly breathing) breathe out slowly from the right nostril by closing the left nostril with the two ( left hand middle and ring) fingers. Now breathe in from the right nostril by closing the left nostril in the above manner and exhale from the left nostril by closing the right nostril with the right thumb. It completes one cycle. Do this for three minutes for two months then gradually increase to 5 minutes.

Do it two hour after eating or drinking. (Do it on empty-stomach) Do not eat for 15 minute after you are done. Better to lie down for five minutes after you are done. If you limit practice to maximum of five minutes, it will be the best.

The very first sign you will experience is lightness in the body and clearer thinking.

The practice of this breathing for a period of three to four months can open up thirty to forty percent of the heart arteries' blockages. This pranayama alleviates all the diseases of the body, leads to the state of joy, enthusiasm for living , fearlessness, peace of mind and deep meditation.

Benefits:
-Hair will regrow within two months of practice.
-Body will go to it's ideal weight by itself.
-Face becomes bright and luminous.
-Lost vision will return.
-Removes fear/anxiety of any kind.
- Aligns both hemisphere of the brain for full brain functionality
- Creates a deeper sense of well-being and harmony
- Helps alleviate migraines and headaches and frazzled states of being
- Works great in situations where you find yourself anxious, board and need grounding
-Blockages in the arteries of the heart are removed and the arteries become clean, making circulation unimpeded.

Ujjayi Pranayama

1. You can do this sitting, standing or walking anywhere anytime.

2. Inhale slowly through both nostrils, keeping the throat slightly constricted so as to make a gentle sound that will help you to feel the breath in the throat. The sound will remind you of ocean waves washing up the beach. Concentrate on the feeling of the breath moving in and out through the throat.

3. During inhalation do not allow abdomen to bulge out, let the chest expand.

4. After completing inhalation slowly exhale. (Either by both nostrils or by left nostril) During exhalation chest should go inside and abdomen should remain steady.

Remember :-

1. While doing Ujjiayi air should touch the throat.

2. Breath must be mentally locked in chest area. (Do not do belly breathing)

3. After practicing it for few days, knowing your limitations, keep the ratio between inhalation and exhalation 1 : 2.

4. In easy Ujjiayi Pranayama, inhalation and exhalation can be practiced by both the nostrils.

Benefits:
This simple practice has a subtle influence on the whole body. It calms the mind and has a soothing effect on the nervous system. Ujjayi is very useful for people with high blood pressure as it slows down the heartbeat. It has subtle effects on the flow of life force in the astral (energy) body and helps you to be aware of its movement within the sushumna (astral spine).

This is a great little book for those wanting to learn more about the different types of breathing associated with yoga. The author provides simple, straightforward instruction on various yogic breathing styles, including Ujjayi and Alternate Nostril Breathing. He also talks about how to incorporate breathing into both your yoga practice and your daily life. An excellent reference book, especially for those who feel intimidated by the classic pranayama (breathing) texts.

This little book is an excellent guide for yoga breathing. You don't have to dig through long texts (although interesting as well) about eastern life philosophy and can get straight to work. Several breathing techniques are explained in a couple of pages each and categorized per purpose, e.g. concentration, energy etc. definitely recommendable, especially when you're `a starter' and just want to experience some techniques.

This book is just as important as the "Emotional Intelligence" book by Daniel Goleman. It helps the reader understand the major ingredient of our body, water, and why it should also be the main ingredient of what we take in. While Goleman discusses the wholesome meanings behind the consanguineous electrical synapses of neurons, Steve Meyerowitz reveals how water is used by the body, the hydroelectric generator, to power our brains.

Most important realization one comes away reading this book is: I did not know I was thirsty--of water, and of knowledge.

I have been researching and writing about water for over 40 years, and have owned and operated a state-certified water testing laboratory for 14 years. As a result, I have over 600 water books in my private library. Therefore, when I see a quick-study book float to the surface - such as this one - I hope for the best. This book offers practical information, albeit relatively superficial. I believe that the layperson will also find it useful to read "The Drinking Water Book" (Second Edition) by Colin Ingram, which offers excellent, up-to-date information about our drinking water.

This is excellent book about water and why water it is important to our health. This book also talks about various filters (pros and cons). Also, it tells you which form of bottled water is not so good and which one is the best. Water is important because it seems that people are chronically water deprived. The book even goes over types of water purification units.

My eyes were really opened to the problem of dehydration. I thuroughly enjoyed Steve's straight forward writing. I have always heard to drink a lot of water everyday, but I never knew why. Now I know exactly why. How enjoyable it is to read truth presented in a way that tells me that the writer believes what he's writing about with all his heart. I am telling everyone to drink their water, and to read this book, too! Thank you, Steve, for caring enough to share such valuable information

I was very disappointed in this book. A lot of text to describe a ultra-low calorie diet. And the carb/no-carb rotation - I think it's just something to keep people interested.

I have read both this and his earlier edition of The Fat Burning Diet. Usually later editions are just to add some new content or make corrections, but he completely changed some of his recommendations between editions. One example is that in the earlier edition, he recommended individuals trying to build mass eat 5-6 meals a day, while in the later edition he recommends only 3 meals.

Save your money. If you really want to read a book on health and fitness by someone who knows what they are doing, look up Stuart McRobert's latest book.

If you want to build a perfectly toned physique or are just interested in healthy eating, this book is for you. I have been following the "diet" for a little over a month now and the results are truly amazing. I will break this review into different segments to allow for easy reading.

WHAT IS THIS DIET?

The term "diet" is really a misnomer here. People conjure up all sorts of negative images when they think of dieting. Most people immediately assume they are going to have to count calories and make all sorts of rigorous calculations. Other people think of a diet consisting of various "phases" or "point systems".

Thankfully, this diet is like nothing you have experienced before. The core concept behind this diet is carbohydrate cycling. Some days will be "Low-Carb Days", in which you limit your consumption of carbohydrates while focusing on proteins and fats. Other days are "High-Carb Days" in which you will focus on foods rich in carbs, such as bread, fruit, and pasta. A lot of people know that the overconsumption of carbs can lead to weight gain, yet few people know that carbs are actually very important and must be consumed at the right times. The timing and amount of carbs to consume is the focus of this book.

WHY DOES IT WORK?

It constantly keeps your glycogen levels in check, which in turn forces your body to burn fat rather than carbs. Glycogen is just a fancy term for stored carbs, and once the stores are full, all excess carbs turn to fat. Also, once carbs are in your system, your body will tend to use those carbs as energy first because it is an immediate energy source. However, if your glycogen is depleted or very low, the carbs you are consuming will be solely used to fill those glycogen stores back up instead of using those carbs as energy. Thus, you can still burn fat even though you are consuming lots of carbs on your "high-carb days". It should be mentioned that these are the same techniques that professional bodybuilders use to become absolutely shredded and drop their body-fat into the low single digits!

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THIS DIET?

Increased energy, rapid fat loss, improved digestion, and a fast metabolism just to name a few. When your body starts to use fat as energy, amazing changes happen in your body which I will describe below.

MY PREFERRED FOODS:

It should be noted that while Jay Robb does recommend eating organic foods, I have noticed that I can essentially consume any foods I want and as long as it follows the carbohydrate guidelines, I burn fat. Thus, while these foods are not necessarily recommended in the book, you can actually eat them and still lose weight without even having to exercise.

Low-Carb Days: Tyson Buffalo Style Hot Wings with Ranch Dressing, Grilled Chicken Salad with Ranch, Steak, Protein Shakes, Veggies, Danon Light and Fit Yogurt (Limited intake due to some carbs), and Frozen Pizza (I cook the pizza whole then use a fork to scrape off all the toppings, leaving behind the crust for a low-carb treat). Virtually any meat is fair game on a low-carb day. Don't worry about fat intake, either.

High-Carb Days: Any kind of fruit, Toast with Butter spray (0 Carbs, 0 Calories), potatoes with Butter Spray, Old-Fashioned Oatmeal with blue-berries or bananas, Fat-Free popcorn, and Danon Light and Fit Smoothies, and Muscle Milk. The important thing to remember is to focus mainly on carbs - protein and fat shouldn't really be consumed. Particularly avoid fat intake because High Carbs + High Fat is a surefire formula for packing on pounds of fat.

WHY I LIKE THIS DIET:

It is very simple to follow and I still get to eat a lot of great foods that I would eat normally anyways. The only thing that has changed is the timing, really. It doesn't even feel like I am on a diet at all!

Also, it is very easy to eat out at restaurants using this system. There is almost always something appetizing on the menu that will still enable you to stick to your plan.

MY PERSONAL RESULTS:

TIME - I have been following the diet for a little over a month.

FAT-LOSS - I started around 17% and am currently around 13%. The results came very quick at first, and now have somewhat leveled off. Each day, however, I get leaner and leaner. My favorite part of the day is the morning - I rush to the bathroom and look into the mirror and flex my stomach. My abs are starting to show, for once! If my results continue, which they will, I will have a perfect six pack in the next two months.

ENERGY - Very stable throughout the day. I never yawn anymore.

STRENGTH - I am lifting the same, if not more, than when I first started this diet, despite losing weight.

ATTITUDE - Mood improved at first and I felt great about life, probably because I was finally seeing results so quickly which has always been my fantasy. Lately, I have been going through some rough events in my life and stress at work as I prepare to move back to my college apartment, so I have been a little less peachy than usual. I really don't think this has anything to do with the diet, however.

INTERESTING FACTS I LEARNED:

EXERCISE IS A POOR WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT - Most people have this notion that if they work like a horse in the gym or on the treadmill, they can eat whatever they want because all that hard exercise counter-balances their poor diet. WRONG WRONG WRONG! The calories you burn through exercise are very small and will NOT have much of an effect on your fat loss. Diet is really the only way to lose that weight. In fact, I strongly believe that diet is 90 - 95% of the equation in fat-loss. Don't get me wrong, exercise has its place and I do recommend it. But if you believe you can just eat what you want and burn it all off in the gym, you are in for a surprise. No amount of exercise can correct a poor diet. But if your diet is right, you can melt away pounds of fat without lifting a finger!

BODY TEMPERATURE - Your Body temperature is actually a good way to check your metabolism. If it isn't around 98.6 degrees, you may need to stoke the furnace!

FAT IS THE PREFERRED SOURCE OF ENERGY - Your body likes to burn fat over carbs. Carbs are only good for quick movements, such as sprinting or lifting weights. Fat is a much more dependable energy source for long events that require continuous effort, like a marathon.

GLYCOGEN STORES ARE RATHER LARGE - Glycogen stores can hold around 400 grams of carbohydrates for the average active individual! "That is the equivalent of approximately 16 bowls of oatmeal, 50 rice cakes, 40 pancakes, 36 slices of wheat bread, 40 cups of steamed green beans, 10 cups of cooked corn, 50 cups of steamed zucchini, or 19 medium-sized apples." On this diet, your glycogen stores are never full so you never risk gaining fat if you stick with the program. QUOTE TAKEN FROM JAY ROBB, PAGE 32.

CARBS SPEED UP YOUR METABOLISM - Going without carbs forever would be stupid. This is exactly what I tried to do once with a diet known as, "The Anabolic Diet". I just stuck to eating high fat and high protein and went for as long as I could without eating carbs - sometimes a week or more. I lost a lot of fat at first, then my results came to a screeching halt. Why? My metabolism had shut down! It had caught on to my trick and wouldn't let me win that game. When you have been going without carbs for a day or two, your glycogen is low. That next "high-carb day" is critical to your success because it boosts your metabolism and keeps your body on edge!

FAT IS NOT THE ENEMY - Eating a lot of fat actually liberates body-fat. Most people think fat is the reason America is so obese, but it is not. HIGH FAT + HIGH CARBS = Disaster. But fat by itself or with protein is actually fat-burning.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT - Eating healthy foods will make your body work with you and not against you. My thoughts are clearer and I am just physically living a better life at this point. I am excited about my diet and the results just keep coming. I have never been happier with respect to my body, and that confidence is going to show in other parts of my life, too.

MY THOUGHTS ABOUT:

Exercise - On Low-Carb Days, stick to cardiovascular exercise for even more fat burning. My favorites are jogging and swimming. My reasoning is that during Low-Carb Days your glycogen will be low and your body will be burning fat primarily. Cardio will deplete your carbs even further and may help you burn even more fat. On High-Carb days, lift weights. When you lift weights, all those carbs will rush to your muscles and give you an incredible pump. I am still toying with when to do my cardio and weights, but as of now I think this would be the best system.

Meal Frequency - A lot of people recommend eating 6 small meals a day, while Jay Robb recommends eating 3 solid meals a day. My take is that either way will produce results as long as you stick to the carb guidelines and follow the system. Personally, I eat whenever I am hungry throughout the day because I hate having to time my meals. That requires way too much planning for me, especially if I mess up and get hungry before I am due to eat again.

The Free-Meal - Once a week, Jay Robb encourages you to totally splurge and during one of your meals, eat whatever you want. So you may have a typical high-carb breakfast and lunch, but when dinner rolls around anything is fair game, including cookies, pasta, chips, ice cream, etc. He maintains that the meal must be limited to 60 minutes. I think this is a great idea but you may even be able to take it a step further. For me, I am following the "Maxi-Burn" variation of the diet, and although I generally stick to the once-a-week cheat meal, sometimes I go one step further and engage in a total free-day! And you know what? I AM EVEN LEANER THE NEXT DAY! However, I don't recommend doing this often. Perhaps once a month would suffice.

END-NOTES:

Overall, this diet is the best diet I have ever tried and actually been able to stick to. I have tried many other approaches, and there was always something that irked me with their systems. With the Anabolic Diet, I was deprived of carbs for way too long and my energy crashed after awhile. Also, my fat-loss crashed, too. With Body-For-Life, the results were good but there was just way too much planning and too many rules. I became so tangled up in shopping all the time and making sure my meals were proportioned correctly. Quite frankly, it become a hassle that was beyond discouraging and I just couldn't stick with it. The Abs-Diet didn't give me any results because it was too high in carbs. This is the only one that has given me both the results and freedom I need to keep me on track.

I also really like the fact that there are all sorts of variations of the diet in this book. The standard approach is basically one low-carb day followed by one high-carb day - then repeat the cycle, alternating low-carb days with high-carb days. The variations give you even more options. Let's say you really want to burn fat like crazy - no problem, just follow the "maxi-burn" variation. Now, you have two low-carb days followed by one very high-carb day! Endurance runners wanting to expand their glycogen stores have their own special variation, if they wish. Going to a wedding or some other event in which you will be eating lots of calories and carbs? That's okay - Jay Robb has the "Banquet Buster" variation to help you plan ahead. There are 12 variations total inside the book.

The book is chocked full of tips for improving digestion and also includes numerous useful charts to help you understand more clearly how your body works and the effects this "diet" will have on it.

It should also be noted that I no longer have "cravings" for sweets. I used to salivate when someone mentioned potato chips or ice cream, but now I simply shrug and opt for fruit. I no longer feel a physical need or want to eat any refined carbohydrates. Most people are addicted to carbs, but I believe this unique system of carb cycling has ridden me of my cravings for good!

Why settle for anything else? These are the techniques the pro's use to become "walking anatomy charts", in the words of Tom Venuto. The results are truly astounding and I have only been following it for a little over a month. In about two more months, I will have a perfect six pack of abs! I plan to return to this review to keep you all posted, as well as have my body-fat percentage measured so I can track my progress. If you have failed with dieting in the past, please, I urge you to give this one a try. This is not only the best book about nutrition I have ever had the pleasure to read, but it is the most important book I have ever read in my life! It really changed my life and I hope it will change yours, too! Good luck to all of you!

ONE FINAL NOTE: Yes, it is true that Jay Robb preaches about God and other religious ideals throughout this book. I am an atheist, and I survived it! While I found it a little awkward for a book about nutrition, it really WAS NOT A PROBLEM! If you are religious, you probably won't mind. If you aren't, just roll your eyes and skip over it. It isn't worth letting that ruin the book for you and it really isn't that frequent. Most of this book is pure gold!

Besides losing FAT (not weight) for the first time in a year of constant dieting, this book has more importantly encouraged me to live a healhty lifestyle. Jay Robb teaches you how to eliminate bloating, gas, constipation and, yes, fat. He makes eating fun again while teaching you how to increase your immunity and energy. I have also tried his Fruit Flush twice already and highly recommend you consider purchasing it along with The Fat Burning Diet. I now enjoy eating and no longer worry when I jump off the path a little. This is a great reference book for optimal health and lifestyle change.

Since this book is a slight update of Chilton's 2005 book INFLAMMATION NATION, it has the same deficiencies. One cause of imflammation is treated quite well, but other even greater causes are not even mentioned. To deal with chronic inflammation, you need to know the causes, which include toxins, homocysteine, drugs, stress, cooking oils, and others. You might try THE INFLAMMATION SYNDROME or NONEST NUTRITION.

I have read this book in its entirety. I have a bookcase full of others that are similar but not nearly as complete, with a few exceptions mentioned below.

With several close and immediate family members suffering with inflammatory diseases such as lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Asthma, Crohn's Disease, Psoriasis, High Cholesterol with increasing Homocystine, c-reactive protein and Triglyceride levels (myself) and a paternal family history of fatal heart disease (my father, his 4 siblings and his mother) I have been motivated to take some responsibility for learning all that is available to the layman about such diseases and their causes.

Chilton's book is not about him, it is about what has been discovered to be the root cause of destructive internal inflammation; primarily arachidonic acid, particularly in it's pre-formed state, and found in most "good diets." Chilton makes no claims such as "reversing" damage already done, or "curing" a disease, but this book offers real hope of preventing the onset or escalation of inflammation, due to other causes than infection, to which so many grave illnesses owe their beginning.

Chilton presents the information in a format easily accessible by laymen, with practical guides to food purchases, a scale of possible inflammation which he terms "The Inflammatory Index" and includes dietary recommendations, two diet plans, a glycemic index to the recommended foods as well as an understandable food pyramid and many other useful resources and appendices.

Chilton never recommends anyone drop medical care or current drugs used to treat a disease. He has a prepared letter for one's medical professional which outlines the uses of the Chilton program as an adjunct to medical treatment. Chilton has not inserted pride into this book. He gives full credit to other researchers who's work inspired his or with whom he has worked on the causes of these diseases. The fact that a beloved member of his family suffers greatly from one of these diseases may have inspired him to greater efforts, the results of which he has been sharing with the public as new breakthroughs emerge. This book pulls that research together into real, applicable actions we can take to enhance our health.

I have spent the last ten years attempting to collect usable information, and tried a half-dozen programs/diets that promised results. Some made my own symptoms worse. Only one program and one food sensitivity blood test have made a real and positive impact on my own health and my husbands before I purchased WIN the War WITHIN: The McDougall Program (Dr. John McDougall, M.D.), the information in The False Fat Diet (Dr. Elson M. Haas, M.D). Now, this worthy book will, I believe, provide the biochemical proof of cause and effect that will assist us, the sufferers, in halting the progress of these diseases in our own bodies.

Research Dr. Chilton for yourself before mischaracterizing his work as insufficient or before assuming he is another snake oil salesman capitalizing on the suffering that folks are willing to pay good money to end. If you dismiss this book without actually having read it, you lose.

I have never met Dr. Chilton or anyone associated with him as far as I know, even given the theory of "six degrees of separation." I have written only four other reviews in 10 years of using the resources on Amazon.com. I have no hidden agenda or axe to grind. I do believe in self-empowerment and partnering with our medical caregivers. I personally went from a total cholesterol of 364 to 282 just by removing from my diet the foods to which I learned I was sensitive (the blood test mentioned above). But I still need medication to complete the journey to safe levels of the markers for heart and artery disease. I enthusiastically recommend WIN the War WITHIN.

Wishing you all progressively better health.

I'm retired, and I thought I knew a lot about taking care of my self and not depending on a doctor. A few years ago I did a lot of medical research, thinking I could find a cure by knowing what vitamins and mineral researchers claim could heal or treat any disease. I built a huge spread sheet actually 3 major ones and in doing so I discovered a lot of contradictions. And of course the same old rederick about pharmaceutical companies.

A couple years ago my wife was going through some major health issues and I decided on going online for her problems. There is a lot of scientist and researcher out there,I found one doctor that was unique, and at the time hard for me to believe. But knowing what I knew from the research I've done over the years and comparing what Dr. Robert Young was telling me via his web site, I soon became a believer in his "proven" facts about the acid in your body causes diseases. Acually acid is the disease, not the name as we came to know such as: cancer, or AIDS, or heart disease etc. That is what I'm saying your immune system tries to fight off excess acid, is overwhelmed, tumers form and get enlarge. I sent for his book `Sick and Tired'; if you can afford $18.00 order it, your gonna be impressed.

I have read this book and I do not agree with it. Certainly eating vegetables is a good way to go and will help you lose weight- no doubt about it!
However, the author cites acid as the cause of all of our ills and diseases. Let us take a good look at that. Ascorbic Acid, you know Vitamin C, which is said to be the closest thing to cure the common cold. Guess what that is an acid.
Linaus Pauling, a real doctor, not what that got his degree online at some school that he can not reveal, used to take up to 15,000 mgs a day of ascorbic acid. Did it kill him, no he lived into his nineties, over twenty years longer than the average man. So much for acid being bad.
And the stomach what is that composed of? HCL, Hydrochloric acid, and if it did not, you would not be able to digest your food. Also that acid, destroys bad bacteria, parasites and yeast.
In addition to this there are other acids which we need to survive on, such as Amino Acids, which are in every protein you eat. Also I am sure you heard of Essential Fatty Acids, Omega 3's. Scientists will tell you they are some of the best things to eat, and are essential to the body.
The bottom line is the authors credentials are dubious at best, and he should have stuck to what is true in his book. That is that vegetables are the best thing for you and will help you lose weight and get healthier!

All the research I've been doing on cancer and more broadly - the nature of disease points to the fact that "terrain" is indeed everything. If there was anything I disagreed with in this book I'd certainly give credit to this basic assumption. The book actually goes deeper than that for which I was immensely grateful. The author draws attention to the state of blood as an indicator of health of the "terrain" or the body. I have absolutely no quarrels with this premise which also is biblically sound by the way.I keep coming back to this book as I find more and more evidence that its assumptions and teachings are valid. Finding truth is like finding a piece of a puzzle, all of a sudden the whole pictue becomes so much clearer. This book is just that - a piece of a giant puzzle that we call the origin of disease. The fact that it offers practical applications to those with health struggles makes it absolutely invaluable in my eyes.

this book should be in everyones library

Dr.Young certainly has written a book that helps set matters straight.
Well researched, well written and able to lead people out of the confusion we call "health advice".
I've read books on health for over 30 years, and there have been many
that stood out from the pack -but this, i feel, is above all others as
He has based his research and practice on a solid foundation -unlike the
allopathic and (to a good degree) the naturapathic systems. I wish i had ordered more as my friends all want one.
