This book is a great resource tool to have at your disposal! It provides tips and information not often shared in teaching courses. I highly recommend it.

Although I have been teaching English for twelve years, I will be the department chair for my school for the first time next year. I felt the need to brush up on the latest research and ideas, so I ordered this book, knowing nothing about the author. I was so pleased and still am as I am highlighting and marking all over this book, tagging all the information and examples that might help my fellow teachers. I love the way Burke balances the need to address standards and requirements with creativity and individualism. It's a must have for every English teacher of any level or experience. A great reference book to have easily accessible.

Burke provides countless examples, a number of graphic organizers, and a significant number of personal anecdotes, examples from his students, and further resources. A great book for any secondary English teacher.

This book - like previous editions - is an excellent book for classroom teachers. It covers what an English teacher must know with plenty of excellent facts and practical suggestions. The author knows what he is talking about from years of experience.

That said - there are some problems. Previous editions were quite compact with short but excellent descriptions of what a teacher had to know to put something into practice.. This one is different. The explanations are often much too long and contain a ton of detail, some of which is needed.

Compared to previous editions, this edition need a little slimming down.

This book is an excellent resource for English teachers at any stage in their career.There are excellent suggestions for those seeking employment as an English teacher (chapter 23). Fabulous information is included on teaching and organizing so that you have time for a personal life (a skill I am still trying to master!). There is also great advice for new/newer teachers on creating classrooms that work well and function cohesively. By far though, the single most important quality of this book is Jim Burke's level of professionalism. He makes me proud to be an English teacher, and instills a genuine desire to convey that pride in my profession to my students. No English teacher should be without this book.

I am currently studying for the NLN CNE certificaion exam. This book, Teaching in Nursing: A Guide for Faculty (Billings, Teaching in Nursing: A Guide for Faculty) was recommended as a resource and it has been very helpful in preparation for the exam. It is not only an excellent resource for the exam, but also an excellent resource for the novice nurse educator. For those of us in nursing education for a number of years, this book is excellent at refreshing us and providing new ideas and innovations in nursing. I hardily suggest this book to anyone in or seeking to begin educating nurses.

I am taking an online course at the IUPUI School of Nursing and this book has been an excellent resource for this course. Just about everything I need is in there. A must buy for any of the IUPUISON online courses.

I am using this book for a masters class in education for my CNS. I enjoyed reading it. It is very easy to read and covers a vast amount of information needed for a nurse to get started in her her teaching career.

I purchased this book for a class I have been taking and found it easy to understand and very informative.

Teaching in Nursing: A Guide for Faculty by Diane Billings and Judith Halstead is a concise comprehensive easy to read resource on being a nurse educator. I am a graduate student pursuing my MSN/Ed. As a student, I found this book to be very relevant, well cited, and easy to navigate. I loved that it came in soft cover. I highly recommend this book.

I was looking for something more meaty and this book is written on an 8th grade reading level, which gives me little faith in it's target audience - day care employees. That being said, its a decent overview of the theorists and can be read in one Sunday afternoon. Kind of like a 'Day Care for Dummies.' You'll know roughly when the scholars lived and a very general outline of their ideas. Perfect for a teen or middle-schooler who baby sits and has some intellectual curiosity about what's going on in the mind of her neighbor's rug rats. Great for a new mom that is not a huge reader. But not an academic book.

little of practical value. gives high level overview of concepts but evidence supporting their effectiveness is not substantiated, and methods for applying them are few.

Theories of Childhood: An Introduction to Dewey, Montessori, Erikson, Piaget & Vygotsky
I read this book as part of a class, but I found it very interesting and it held my attention well.

This is basically a pamphlet. Wikipedia probably has longer entries for each of the theorists/practitioners covered here than each chapter of this book. It is an informative introduction, but if you want anything more than a cursory overview, go elsewhere. And even if that is all you want, might as well save your $ and look the people up on Wikipedia instead.

This book is a concise review of the theories of each of the men listed in the title. It is most appropriate for college students. It is too elementary for graduate psychology or psychiatry students, who would like a more in-depth presentation of their ideas.

This is an excellent book for any educator to have. It contains innumerous resources for using literature with children. It is a bit costly, but worth every penny!

LOVE the illustrations. This book is vibrant with color. I am most impressed with the fact that they included work from children. However, as a first grade teacher, I will only be able teach a few lessons. The projects are intricate and would probably require more than one session. Nonetheless, I'm still very happy with this purchase.

This was one of about 20 books I bought for I summer camp I was running. This book is worth every penny. I ended up using a project a day in the camp. Kids and parents loved it and I appreciated the step by step instructions and pictures. Truly a great buy!

THis book is awesome and full of great lesson ideas. The spiral binding makes it as functional as it is informative. This book has it all: art standard connections, easy to follow directions, photos and student examples.

I am an art teacher and have never recommended a book before. This one is unique. The projects are fun and colorful and the students love them.
The directions are clear, with student examples and step by step directions with photos.
I highly recommend this book.The lessons can coordinate with what is going on in the classroom. I used the reptiles and birds project with second grade while they were studying them; planets with third grade, geometric mobiles while they were studying geometry, etc. Most lessons can easily be adapted to a different grade level or for a student with special needs.

I just received the book and love it. I am a seasoned classroom teacher that loves to teach creatively. This book has great ideas. I will be teaching exclusively art soon and can't wait to try some of the projects. It has some awesome ideas that I can use with kindergarten thru fifth grade. It has lots of ideas for reinforcing math, science, and social studies topics. Let me know when Ms. Logan comes out with another book. Thanks again! j bolus

Up-to-date, thoughtful and incisive. This textbook reads easily and provides excellent theoretical perspectives on the development of human psychology. I recommend it as a basis for any advanced education in the field.

This text is readable and seems to cover the course content well (The class I am enrolled in is a Master's level class called "Human Growth and Development). However, the SIZE of the book makes it difficult to manage easily. I would have preferred a thicker book with smaller dimensions in height and width. As it is, you need two hands to hold the book, and it's not easy to read it curled up in a chair! That also makes highlighting while you read difficult, unless, of course you are sitting at a desk or table while you are reading.

Great book - covers lifespan from birth to death, looking at development from the perspective of many important theories and theorists, as well as from many different systems.

This workbook is a very good review tool for students learning English as a second language. It's also a big help for the teacher!

Understanding and Using English Grammar, Third Edition (Full Student Book with Answer Key)
We have been using this book with Upper Intermediate and Lower Advanced Students for the past 3 years and recommend it to other teachers.

For those, like me, who want to learn english as a second language, could not have a better english grammar than this. I recommend!!

I recommend this book to those who are seriously studying English as a foreign language. Not only does it explain the basics of grammar, but it also includes many drills that enable you to clearly understand each rule. The index in the back of the book is very useful.

Whether you are a seasoned professional or a first-time beginner, Bob Cohen's book will give you a breath of air as you slog through the sometimes smoggy atmosphere of teaching drama. One of the problems a drama teacher faces is that while everybody can act to a certain point--after all, most of us live a life of drama just navagating the simplest everyday experiences. But not all are able to capture that natural ability to adjust to life for use in an artificial environment--ie on the stage or before the camera. Cohen breaks that process down to basics. There are no esoterics here, only common sense . . . and truth. Among the exercises there is advice. Good advice. This is a great place to start before you tackle the various "Methods" that some swear by but often get between the actor and acting. I have been at this for nearly 30 years and still go back to Cohen for that breath of air I mentioned. It makes me want to go back into the darkness of the rehearsal hall to see whether I can make the magic yet again.

This book, by Cohen, offers a good reference guide for begining students. It is comprehensive and well-laid out as it gives a basic overview of most aspects of the theatrical arts.

I am an instructor in this course, and I really do not favor this textbook. It contains ALOT of information and data, and it is well organized with a ton of helpful diagrams and illustrations, but it is easy to drown in the text without absorbing it because the book does a poor job of explaining the concepts it covers. This text might serve help to a physiologist or physician, but for the individual who is studying to be in other fields of allied health, it is a ton of information that is not well presented. The text is very dense and not very reader friendly. The text does contain great illustrations...however, I believe Marieb's text is a much better book IMO.

I'VE NEVER SEEN SO MUCH INFORMATION CRAMMED INTO ONE BOOK!

My biggest problem with this book lies directly with the fact that teachers use it when you BEGIN learning the basics of anatomy and physiology. Instead of focusing on the basics, this book has a lot of unnecessary "window-dressing". Not only that, but the author could have shortened the explanations; why talk about a topic in 10 pages when it could easily be said in 3?

By going on and on, this book only makes remembering the information more difficult. The book says "Fundamentals", but really it should be saying "Everything-in-Between"! Not to mention the price is horrendous (though it has gotten much better). PLEASE college teachers, if you wish to help your students learn efficiently, use a book that doesn't turn the subject of anatomy and physiology into a bore-and-tedium fest.

This book is incredibly expensive. I've seen it listed for $200+ at some stores. I bought a brand new, shrink-wrapped "international version" for $37 plus $30 shipping (TOTAL $67). I know you're thinking that the shipping was high, but I received the book 36 hours after I ordered it and was thankful! It came with 3 sealed CD's and the online access code. The international version appears to be exactly the same except it is a soft cover and has a orange colored border surrounding that same picture on the cover. Good luck.

The company NEVER made good on their promise to allow me access to use their website. They provided the professor an invalid access code.
I can only have access if I send them MORE money to purchase access.
I ALREADY GAVE THEM 150+ for the NEW text, lab manual, cd's & entry into their website. It feels like I am being SCAMMED although I am pretty sure this is not their intention.
