I buy this book based in the advise of a friend that is an english teacher and the reviews that I read from amazon uk and amozon US. the book is very usefull for me. I never learn english from Class I learn english from HBO and Cinemax. Because of this I have a lot of problems with my grammar, I have quite a good vocabulary and my pronuntiation is pretty well, bt when I am writing... The problems appear this book help me a lot with that the study guide make me realize witch are my major mistakes and the cd is also pretty good. I recomend this book to all the people that think that they know enough english to not take classes again or for those who already take it but need an extra help in grammar, easy to follow and very clear. The only but is the quality of the paper... Is not bad, quite the opposite, too good, so if you are doing the book by your own ou will find almost imposible to erase in the pages, be carfull on that, from the rest... you will love it.

This is a book well suited to both beginners and intermediate English students. The grammatical topics are well discussed but the exercises do not pose any challenge for the learners, in fact, this is the reason behind my four stars rating. Despite of being sometimes boring, the exhausting exercises of this book will help you to learn the main topics of the English language as regular workouts can help you to be in shape.

This is a timeless treasure of mathematical understandings generated by Marilyn Burns and her associates. These activities, coupled with hands-on training for teachers, can make a tremendous difference in the mathematical understanding of elementary and early middle school teachers. Most important in this edition are the addition of Burns' revised thinking on Teaching Arithmetic (part 3), and her compilation of discussions for 40 activities (part 4). These two additions have rounded this meaningful math resource into a powerful tool for on-going staff development.

I haven't finished reading this entire valuable resource, but it has a great conceptual framework followed by creative ideas. I teach 7th Grade Mathematics overseas where my students have not had a great basis in analytical thinking and I look forward to using these ideas with my classes this year.

I love this book! It is a great resource with ideas for getting kids interested in math and what questions teachers should ask themselves as they teach. It also points out common mistakes students make and their thought processes for getting there. It is divided into sections by mathematical topics and also has dozens of lesson plan ideas, both for full lessons and those quick time-fillers. This is the most reader-friendly textbook I've ever had to read for a class--it's so easy to read!

The text and this workbook are excellent. You need a live teacher to be successful with this study. The teacher will appreciate this workbook only with thee text it is to accompany. This text and workbook are slightly on the AP side of difficulty but still great for the formative Latin student.

Well worth it

Wheelock's Latin is the standard textbook for many beginning latin classes. My son is in 3rd year latin at High School, and the book has been extremely helpful to have at home. I would recommend buying both the textbook and the vocabulary card book at the same time, as it is less expensive that way and very helpful.

Great addition to the Wheelock text.

This workbook is a very helpful addition to the Wheelock Latin text. It provides a number of helpful exercises for you to practice what you've learned in the text. It's a must have for the self-learner. The only drawback is that you have to contact the publisher to get a copy of the answer key. It's not terribly difficult. It's just an added step.

Invaluable Supplement to Wheelock's Classic Text

For the independent learner, like myself, the workbook is an excellent supplementary learning tool to Wheelock's text. Though the text itself does a great job of explaining all of the concepts, it doesn't have enough exercises for the independent learner to really grasp the material. That's where this book comes in. It has plenty of extra exercises and review to help you really retain the material.

Unlike some reviewers, I had no problem obtaining the answer key for this book. I simply emailed the site and explained that I was an independent learner and needed a copy of the answer key and they responded within a day with an access code to both the workbook and the main text, which provides translations for the practice and review and sententiae antiquae contained in there.

Overall, a solid companion to Wheelock's seminal Latin text. I give it 4 stars only because the whole process of obtaining the answer key is a bit cumbersome and inconvenient. I believe they should begin including it with the text for easier use.

You don't need this if you have the 6th edition...

This is a good workbook, but if you have "Wheelock's 6th edition, revised", you don't need this. Most of the exercises here are repetitions of the "Optional Self-Tutorial Exercises" in the back of the main book. Sometimes they repeat the *exact* same sentence to be translated! I felt a little deceived. But, I got the answer key easily, despite some complains about it here. They sent me the key in the same day.

I highly recommend this book for its excellent coverage of law in a clear and concise manner. A superior reference for students in educational administration, practicing school leaders, or for teachers that need clarity on issues that deal with broad legislation. I have no criticism whatsoever. However, if you need specific state laws this may not be the best resource for you. This book belongs in every public school library in the country, in every classroom, and in every administrative office in our educational system. Thanks for such a great book!

This text is great, as it thoroughly explains the important educational laws and statues that teachers and administrators need to succeed in an ever-changing and evolving school setting. It is up-to-date and provides example cases and scenarios which are helpful in putting the material into the context of an individual's school environment. However, some information is slightly redundant and re-stated throughout the course of the book.

Sociopolitical Marxism
Helpful Votes: 19 out of 86 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-07
Well now, I know where some of the true Marxist are hiding. In this book, Nieto is trying to create equity policies in schools using taxpayer dollars. If she had her way, she would get rid of capitalism, social classes, and distribution of wealth. Of course, we have already seen how that works in the former Soviet Union (it doesn't work at all). Yes, in a democratic-republic (Nieto always forgets the republic part) there is a dominant culture. Kind of why we call this a nation state, we have national culture. Unfortunately, Nieto is too busy saying the dominant culture is based on White European ideals. In fact, the ideals are based on Judaism, which is not European at all.
There are some aspects of diverse cultures that keep people down trodden in our society, and it is NOT restricted to the dominant cultures. But Nieto makes it sound as though it only happens to dominant cultures.

This is one that will make you think.

Nieto did a fantastic job handling this subject and I love how challenged I am by it! It really causes you to think very deeply about multicultural education and the sociopolitical factors that come into play.

The case studies are the best part of this text, though. I love the fact that there are follow-ups in the back of the book for several of the kids!

Even if you think you know all there is to know about multicultural education, you will be surprised by how much you learn from this very well-written book.

Sociopolitical?

I found this book to primarily address the issues of eastern seaboard minority students rather than the issues faced in the southwestern US. Here in AZ there is a very strong prejudice against Immigrant students of Spanish speaking origin. Did you realize that in most workplaces in AZ we are not allowed to speak in a language other than English to a co-worker? Some paranoid person, usually a transplanted Anglo from out of state thinks we are talking about them. Ms Nieto needs to make her text more of a national treasure by not just focusing on those in the Midwest and Eastern seaboard nothern states. This book is due for an update!

Ineffective Approach and Little Practical Advice
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 14 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-30
I found this book of little use. The major problems created by using race as the main focus of the book include:
* Race as a subject is so overworked that nearly everyone over eight years of age has come to conclusions about race, the most important and most common of which is "I am not racist." However, given how the human brain works (selective attention, generalization, and others) and how humans interact (tribal affiliation, application of generalizations based on visual input, and so on), prejudice and therefore racism are inevitable: We are all racist whether we think so or not.
* Again, because the issue of race is overworked, the reaction of many people when race is introduced as a subject is, "Not again!" This could be overcome by a unique or fresh approach. Outside of Chapter 7, "Toward an Understanding of School Achievement", nothing new or fresh is provided.

On the positive side, the case studies are well written and well selected. In a different literary context, these case studies could be of immense value. Also, Chapter 7 has value to offer.

Yes, I realize that racial discrimination issues are critical, especially given the level of racial discriminiation that exists in the human family. However, focusing on such discrimination as the root issue has stalled civil rights. It has accomplished pretty much all it is going to accomplish. It is time to recognize that predudice is part of the human condition.

I invite Ms. Nieto or others to write a text based on the biological and sociological roots of prejudice aimed at helping the reader and, in the context of college classes, the student realize their own propensity for prejudice, recognize how it might show up, and correct the issues of their own prejudice as they emerge.

This book is one of the best I have read in regards to university education. It eliminates all the guru ideas, and only gives advice that truly works. I have attempted to follow this advice for the past few months, and I can honestly say that I have learnt more through less studying, and I now have a lot more free time than before.

I recommend this book to any university students, however it is aimed more towards non-technical courses (eg. arts, law...). This would really benefit you if you have to write long essays and reports at short notice.

I am a part-time student and I also gained a lot from this book.

Some of the main points:
- Smart students used their time wisely and don't spend hours per day madly cramming for tests but instead study a little bit per day. Smart students think about what they want to cover in a study session and stop when they've covered what they intended to cover.
- Smart students plan their day by tracking in a Daily To List spending 5 mins per day creating a daily schedule.
- By using smarter studying techniques, most people can spend less time and achieve better results.

Book covers different class types and how to study for each. Attend class and pay attention during class are discussed. Ask questions when things are not clear. Use your classmates to help you understand rough spots.

Excellent discussion of test taking strategies as well. Also, advice on paper writing.

The format of this book -- interviewing straight A students and getting directly from them their study habits and test taking strategies made me really pay attention to what the author writes. I thought interviewing successful students was great strategy in writing the book. Adds much more creditability. Plus, the author has achieved something like 30 straight A's.

Overall, I got a lot of value and tips from this book; well worth the ten dollars!!

This is an amazing book that gives real techniques and tricks to optimize your time spent studying. The author's techniques, ranging from time management to notes-taking, are extremely efficient and thoroughly explained. The time management technique itself is worth the books price: it is so useful that I use it for everything, even if it is not related to my studies.

Unlike most theoretical study-methods, the one taught in this book was devised and used by real outstanding students.

It is a really good starting point for traditional incoming college students going to school full time. Though I'm a full time working professional and trying to balance night classes, it still gave me great insight as to how to manage my time more wisely in between work and personal errands. It gave a pretty good foundation as to how to spread out your time when it comes to studying, the difference between a research paper and critical analysis paper. Overall, good book... it's a fast read and you'll walk away gaining at least a few things.

Hi, when I went through this book I was excited with it. It really teaches theory and gives great lessons to develop your skills. If I was using it to teach my own children or just one or two kids at a time I think it would be great. But it seems to need a lot of one on one time with the child, or at least several more sessions than I had available for my class.
Be aware that this book requires a lot of preparation (in my opinion)to be able to sit down and teach a child even if you only have one or two children. This is a great book if you have the time to first teach yourself, then you will be prepared to teach children.

This book captures wonderfully the spirit of art instruction: a simple method + supportive non-judgmental attitude + respect and encouragement of individual creative expression.

I must note that this is a guide for self-exploration, learning and growth rather than a step-by-step instruction manual for mastering a skill. If you are interested in the latter, you should rather get the "Draw Write Now" or related books.

My stepmother taught me to draw with this book when I was 7 and now I'm using it with my homeschooling cirriculum for my kids. It's a terrific tool to de-mystify the artistic process and help find your own artistic voice. As an adult, I found the refresher course extremely useful. My 9 year old son, who is notoriously technical-minded, immediately understood the five families of shape and started breaking down the objects he saw into manageable mediums to put onto paper. He had been frustrated with his drawing until I found the copy I had used as a child and began using it in our curriculum.

The best thing about the book is that it teaches you to accept your creative voice. Children's pictures are often primitive and they get frustrated that it isn't an exact copy, but (as the book states) if they really want it that perfect they could just take a picture. Their creative voice is what makes a drawing special, after all.

I would definitely recommend this product and the use of resources like the addendum lesson plans here: http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/dwclp.htm
