There are 19 different social skills lessons with blackline masters. The skills are taught in a variety of formats including direct teaching, discussion, hands-on activities, role-play, puppet play, games, poems and stories, visual aids, and songs. I love to use literature when I can, and this book referenced many picture books for each social skill! It's a fabulous find-I only wish I'd had it sooner!

I thought this was a good tool for use with ALL kids grades K-1, and the activities seemed fun. I was disappointed that it wasn't more clear that it was for such young classes. This isn't going to solve major problems, but it would certainly work to prevent some!

This book offers direct lessons with worksheets, group activities, games, and book suggestions all to match each skill being taught in the lesson. It is a great component to any social skills class/group. I am using it for 2nd graders, so the preschool focus may be true for general education students, but for students with social needs, this is appropriate for older kids. Enjoy.

This book has worked well with a small group of 8 CC children. If you need to do pre and post tests for acountability, there is a GREAT face scale that can easily be colored for pre-writers. Activities are well laid out and most are kept to a page, so you don't have to flip back and forth. I am very glad to found this book, I can tell already that it is going to get a lot of use. The pre post test alone is worth the cost of the book!

Mastering all the contents of this book would guarantee you a 5, but is not always an easy thing to do. I bought this book 2 weeks before the test and found it extremely difficult to cram all of its contents (I have 100 in AP Chem)in such a short period of time. It was even more upsetting when the AP came out to be not even half as difficult.
If you have a solid background of AP Chemistry and just need a review book that is concise with a lot of good practices, I would recommend Princeton Review. ( Trust me, Princeton Review is more than enough to get you a 5. Don't get yourself panic by buying this overly-complicated book)

Overall, this review book is undoubtedly the best out there, for it is much more in depth than Princeton Review. Like every review book, however, it does contain its occasional errors such as stating 25 degrees Celsius is 300 Kelvin. As long as you're somewhat knowledgeable about chemistry topics, these errors can be overlooked. Regarding the practice tests, they seem to be much more difficult than the actual AP exam; it's probably best to just use past exams provided to you by your teacher. Nonetheless, if you're in need of a review before a test or a cram session before the AP exam, this book is certainly recommended.

I like the Barron's Chemistry because it is extremely thorough, almost like a textbook in its approach. The multiple choice questions are a lot harder than those that you will find in some other reviews, and hard is good. I actually taught review classes from this book, and found that it was remarkably complete.
Caveat, there are a few errors here and there, but if you know what you are doing, you will catch them immediately. I have not seen a book that did not have a wrong answer or typo somewhere in it.
My suggestion is to use Barron's through the year, then pair it with a quicker thinner review book at the end, because this book is not a "quick brush up" kind of a book. And yes, do questions from old exams, free response questions, and lots of them.
The Chemistry AP is very hard. You simply cannot be "overprepared."

there are so many mistakes
that it's not even funny.
i spent more time figuring out what's wrong in my calculation
(and found out that the book is wrong)
than actually studying for AP chem exam.
The review is too much into details that it looks like a chem text book,
not AP exam guide book.

The review in this book is pretty good. That's why I like it. But the practice tests have to be taken with a grain of salt. Many of the questions on there are just ridiculous. 2-dimensional diagrams of pi bonds: probably not on the test (especially the rather crudely drawn ones presented here). And the math is not representative of the AP Chemistry test. On the real test, you are not expected to do complex logarithms and square roots in your head. And, as mentioned earlier, the answer key is riddled with mistakes. These include answers to the wrong question, thinking the question was the opposite of what was asked, and answers that just don't match up with calculations. Also, their explanations are short at best.

This four page laminated Notebook insert covers all the basic concepts of Biblical Hebrew grammar; the Alphabet, vowel diacritics, syllables, nouns, adjectives, articles, conjunctions, prepositions, verbs, pronouns, and construct chains. All in all, very much a useful item. I actually got mine in the Biblical Hebrew Survival Kit, which includes the Vocabulary Cards. Check that item out before you make your decision, since the Study Guide and Vocab Cards (in addition to the vocab CD) are both useful even with grammars other than Zondervan's.

I a teacher of gifted elementary students and currently working on a graduate degree. I use this book to help with the design and implementation of my own program as well as offer guidelines and background information for other teachers I work with. Too often, there are not enough advocates for gifted learners for whatever reasons and this book allows me to give research to support my positions. This book provides profiles of different types of learners (i.e.female, economically challenged, children with disabilities, etc.)as well as how to deal with such learners. It also provides the reader with positive teaching techniques that can be used in the classroom.

This is one textbook I actually enjoy reading! If you are interested in Young Adult literature, either from an educator's or a parental perspective, this book is a great place to learn more. Of course, being a textbook, there is a section on the history of the genre, but it's actually interesting. But the best feature of this book is the the Focus Boxes which list current titles with brief summaries as examples of each format and genre. Also useful is a chronological list of award-winning books which appears near the beginning of the book. This is one text I plan to keep, then replace with newer editions as they are published.
A very good resource.

Literature for Today's Young Adults, by Aleen Pace Nilsen and Kenneth L. Donelson, Sixth Edition. I purchased this book for a class in adolescent literature, and have found to be the book very good and very thorough. The book includes many chapters about modern adolescent literature and their various controversies. Besides being an interesting book, I found it very thorough because it includes varied points of view, and includes many articles written by the authors themselves who write novels for young adults.

I attended one of Kelly Gallagher's lectures last summer and was instantly hooked on his honesty, humor, and principles. I purchased Teaching Adolescent Writers and have used it almost daily. Gallagher's ideas and techniques make so much sense and what's even better is that everything he suggests are exactly what we teachers of writing need. I tried the "find the fib" idea and hooked my students immediately. I moved to "the myth of the boring topic" and had lots of fun exchanging questions with the class. Everything I've brought to the classroom has engaged my reluctant teenages who have no interest in school let alone writing. I try to read sections of his book in the morning before school starts because he just makes so much sense and his ideas are so much fun, I often go to work excited.

As an 8th grade language arts teacher, I have found _Deeper Reading_ and _Reading Reasons_, Gallagher's other teaching titles, to be positively indispensible, so I expected nothing less from his latest work. Once again, Gallagher delivers! This is a straightforward, practical, and yes, funny, book for effective writing instruction in secondary classrooms. Gallagher's fresh, ready-to-use strategies are based upon what he calls the "six pillars of writing success," which are:
-students need a lot more writing practice;
-students need teachers who model good writing;
-students need the opportunity to read and study other writers;
-students need choice when it comes to writing topics;
-students need to write for authentic purposes and to authentic audiences, and;
-students need meaningful feedback from both the teacher and their peers.
Gallagher offers ideas for daily in-class writing opportunities, activities to help generate high-interest topics, strategies for "attacking" on-demand writing, mini-lessons to guide students through deeper revision, alternatives to peer editing (which he says doesn't work), and suggestions for more effective grading. His lessons are geared to teach students the real-world writing skills they will need not just for success in the English classroom but for the long haul.
This is a must-have for veteran and novice teachers alike. I, too, have had the opportunity to attend one of Gallagher's workshops, and in my view, the man is simply genius. Through it all, Gallagher reminds us that we are not superhuman. In view of the mounting pressure so many of us feel to raise the all-mighty test scores, I found the following quote most reassuring: "With the wide range of ability and overwhelming class sizes, it is unrealistic to think I am going to make every one of my 165 students a strong writer. It *is* realistic, however, to begin each year with the goal that every student of mine, regardless of ability, is going to get better." Armed with Gallagher's book, I feel a renewed sense of confidence that my teaching is going to get better, too. Two thumbs way up!

Living the Creative Life is challenging me to look at creativity in many new ways. The approach taken from the viewpoint of many different artists in many different media shows the versitality of our innate creative spirit. The idea that all humans are creative if they allow that part of the whole person to flourish is not new to me, but the way this author discusses the creative spirit is fresh. The book is beautiful to look at and I love the format -- small size, lovely illustrations and great ideas for jump starting creativity.

You can't but be inspired after reading this wondrous book! I will admit first hand, I personally have no intention (nor the talent), to ever become a world class artist by any means. I do have passion to create however, and this book along with another I received around the same time, Your Home A Living Canvas: Create Stunning Faux Finishes & Murals with Paint, by Curtis Heuser, have almost convinced me to rethink my day job. How rewarding (and envious), it sounds from all these talented souls, to be devoted and fortunate enough to get to spend their time without a doubt, doing what they love. Not to say it is without effort, but the pure joy and love for expression, explodes off the pages and simply can not be denied in both of these glorious titles.
Unlike the various first hand artistic testimonials featured throughout "THE CREATIVE LIFE..." - "YOUR HOME..." follows just one decorative artist's amazing creative journey, leading to the publishing of his extroidinary first book which documents the rebirth of his ordinary historic home, through must see mural and faux painting techniques and decoration. In addition, Heuser's book is full of beautiful before, during and after photography, and inspiring how to do the same for your own home-projects. There are similarities in both of these titles however, as the reader will discover and can almost touch the often unexplicable creative passion in the hearts and spirits of these diversely talented artistans.
There appears a special kinship between the artists and authors of both these books - as each are driven by the undeniable desire to express themselves through a wide range of interesting art mediums. I want to personally "Thank" both authors for so eloquently and unselfishly sharing their work and individual views on creativity with us! Both books offer rare insight and are worthy of our every penny! ENJOY!!!!

I know a couple artists that submitted their work to this book and I was happy to see them included!
I think any book that helps people with inspiration is great.
I do think this book is a bit fluffy. At least for me. I was hoping for something different maybe. Something meatier ~ Thanks

Brian Campbell was my 5th grade teacher also, and he is a great teacher and a great person. When he taught science, we had to log things into our science notebooks, and sometimes we had to draw what we looked at. We would record our observations, questions, thoughts, and the results of our tests. Mr. Campbell used some entries from his previous students and put them into this book. Science Notebooks will show you what science notebooks should look like, and it will help teachers teach science to their students.
Great book by a great teacher

I love Science Notebooks. I wanted to do a notebook this year with more inquiry type investigations. This resource helped me to figure out what I wanted the kids to record and how to organize it. It is easy-to-read and understand.

I had this book a couple of semesters ago and it's great. Very informative and I wish I would have kept it for future reference.

If you need a textbook about the fundamentals of early literacy...
...it's the best: HANDS DOWN!
Without sounding cliched, I cannot name enough superlatives for this book, so I won't try. I'll just hit some excellent points that sold me on this book (and it's many previous editons).
First, it's under $80.00 or about as close as you can get for a textbook of this caliber. At first sight, it may not seem like such a big deal, but wait until you see what's inside!
Every page is printed in brillant color. Bright photos, clear large text, and TONS of tables and diagrams are abundant.
Let's talk about the organization. You name it, then it's got it. I was totally bowled over by an inclusion of sections on bibliotherapy and audio/visual reading equipment. Very rarely will you find a book with so many sections (six in all). Each chapter is further striated into tiny chunks of info that spill right into one another in a rational, logical flow...exactly what students need.
The fact that this book is in it's eighth edition should say something, too. The seventh edition was, in opinion, as perfect of a textbook as could be. Could this one top that one? The jury is still out on that.
Regardless, you would not spend your money better by choosing an alternative to this text. Please get this one.
