This book is HORRIBLE. If I wern't forced to use it in class I wouldn't even touch it. It is terribly slanted in a manner that a previous reviewer got right on. The whole book seems to be based on an incorrect perception that the European White Male is the reason for all of our social ills, not just racism.
An example is how Koppelman drolls on that the White European caused all the hatred in the Mexican population by stealing the Mexican land. He fails to cover the part a large majority of Mexicans are a mix of Native Americans and Spanish Conquistidor's. The Conquistidors plundered the land and slaughtered millions of Native Americans. So he overlooks the ills of the one race to set the Mexican up as a pure victim in this matter. His views are totally flawed throughout this book. And I am not letting Goodhart off the hook either.
Bottom line is: Unless you are absolutely required to use this book; DO NOT buy it. For a great perspective on diversity, see if you can find the aged, but fair and balanced "What you are is where you were when" by Morris Massey.
Understanding Human Differences is not the answer to promoting diversity, it promotes hate.
I am half hispanic and half white. So I have a Minority perspective as well as a white male perspective. Don't buy the hate!

We used this textbook in a college course entitled, "Teaching a Diverse Population."
To a person, we all thought this book was awful.
My biggest problem with this piece of work is that the author expects the reader to agree to a line of logic that is not supported by facts. Sure, there are facts interwoven in each chapter, but the facts don't match the logic.
If I turned in any of these chapters as an argumentative essay to my English Composition professor, I'd surely receive less than an "A."
Additionally, I could have done without the four letter words such as cun* (you fill in the last letter).

This is a very good product. The verbs have conjugations for every situation (past, present, and any other tenses. hehe.) The only thing that stops me from giving this book a 5 is that, for a beginner, this book can be very confusing. Although, if the buyer were a linguist, this would be such an a amazing tool.

501 Portuguese Verbs is by far the best verb book there is. Nearly every verb in Portuguese is in there with complete conjugations of nearly every tense! The binding is great, so the book should last you a long while. There is an index of verbs in the back for easy location but everything is in alphabetical order anyway. If you are learning Portuguese, this book is an absolute must.

It's very helpful to have all conjugations laid out, for the top 500 verbs. I use it as I write emails, since I am still learning Portuguese, and verb conjugation is not that easy. I wish they did not include the middle rows for "tu" as this is rarely used in Sao Paulo.

I have been teaching art for 10 years and refer to this book often when I need to find definitions, artists names and work, quotes, or quick ideas. But, now that the internet has become such a reliable source, it needs to be updated with websites that are helpful to the art teacher!!! I find myself looking on the internet for hours searching through all of the information. Wouldn't it be great to add a page or two to this book of lists!

I am not an architect or engineer, but I found this book really fascinating. The authors explain things so that those not in the field could understand, but sometimes get too technical. The illustrations were great, but there should have been more, and some color photos would have been nice.
One thing the authors did not point out, is that hindsight is 20/20. It is almost as though they believe they would never make any errors like those they describe (though some designs they discuss really do sound irresponsible), that buildings they designed would stand forever regardless of environmental factors like earthquakes, floods, etc.

I'm a young Civil Engineer from Portugal. Some months ago I went to New York and I found this fantastic book. I've also bought the book "Why buildings stand up" which is, again, amazing. The descriptions are in such a simple way that even lay people can understand easily the functioning of structures.
It was a pleasure to read such interesting books.

I'm hopeful that the authors will produce a new edition of this book, with the forensic explanations of the collapse of the World Trade Center towers explained in detail.
It is, nonetheless, a worthy sequel to Prof. Salvadori's great work, "Why Buildings Stand Up." It's best to buy both and read them in sequence.
It's also fun to cross the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia (as my son and I did last summer) and think about Galloping Gertie...

From a student who has studied linguistics in the past, George Yule's book is almost a complete waste of time. He brings up interesting points, describes them, and drops them just as quickly without making any sort of progress. The book has precious few examples of the concepts he is discussing, and his discussion of the concepts themselves is muddy and incomplete. For a much clearer way to learn lingustics, check out Edward Finnegan's "Language: Its Strucuture and Use". There are many other books out there that do a much better job of presenting the theories in linguistics.

In this case, Yoga involves every aspect of the human body. This book details specific poses and their associated specific muscle groups. I find that valuable and important for presenting information that matters. this reference is illustrated very well and adds credibility to your knowledge as a representative of what's possible in physical/emotional health. Great to see the muscles in action. I wish I had this book when I first started teaching. This is a great visual image support to understanding the prime movers in asana. The Good: One of the best pictorials I have seen on the muscular system. I really like the way the author separates and groups the muscles. Great for learning and relearning your muscle anatomy.
The Bad: I found a couple of mislabeled muscles in the spine and forearm. I sent an email to confirm this with Bandha Yoga but have no heard back. I use Netter as a reference among other text books.

this book had a lot of information, but nothing that required an entire book to cover. there were a lot of "methods" and ideas to incorporate in the classroom, but the organization of the book made it cumbersome to follow the examples. If you are the type of learner who appreciates a ton of examples this would be a great reference.

Differentiated Instructional Strategies: One Size Doesn't Fit All by Gayle Gregory, and Carolyn Chapman is great tool to compliment any teacher's personal resource library. As a novice to teaching and classroom instruction, I found this book to be very enlightening. The discussion of standards based classrooms, student expectations, multicultural & student diversity, cognitive variation, as well as societal and technological change is threaded though this book. This book defines a simple educational philosophy that success for any teacher is through assessment, effective planning, and effective strategical implementation to measure student performance. Today's classroom demands ongoing cirriculum development and adaptation to classroom instuction through best practices. The techniques in this book outlines a learner's needs, creating a receptive climate for learning, assessment, as well as various innovative strategies for cirriculum success.
