I just got this book a few weeks ago. I've had Oblivion since I bought my 360 and this is one of they best RPG games of all time. The game is a must own. The game is massive, The biggest game world i've ever seen before. So of course if the game is massive your going to need a book that has easy to read conetnt, Lots of Maps, detailed information on the weapons, items, spells, potions, monsters ETC. This is the book!!!!!!! It has everything you need to know about playingt Oblivion. It even helps you make your character. Kind of like when you make your character in Dungeons and Dragons. It tells you how to maximize your character to the fullest even before you start your adventure. The overall walkthrough is amazing!!!! The book even tells you where to get started on your quest. Who to talk to if your doing a freedom quests or how to join the drak brotherhood and it even suggests who to kill so you don't mess up your game later on. It's a must have if you love this game. It will not just get you through that rough spot but it opens up all the possibilities that the game offers you. It opens up all the doors in this game. I don't think I would be able to know everything about this game if it wasn't for this book! I'm planning on getting the Shivering Isles and the Knights of The Nine one day. It has everything about them as well. All the maps are in the back and there are a lot of great maps. It even had all the downloadable content that you can get for the game. This book is priceless if you love this game. Buy this book! You won't be sorry. I've been playing games for over 13 years and this the best book i've owned for a game. Prima has done it again!!!!!! I don't know why it got bad reviews. The maps are in the back of the book and it has pages and pages of them.

This book has was indespensible in helping me on my 'Cure Vampirism' Quest, as I am sure it will be on many more in the future. I can only imagine how annoying that quest would have been without this guide.

The only thing that could be done to improve this book is to add an index at the back. That would make it infinitely better (but, as it stands now, it's still a 5-star book).

You may also want to consider an investment of Post-It Flags along with this book, so you can reference things more quickly.

This book has the answer to any football question you would ever ask. It contains NFL records, Pro Football Hall of Fame information, Team information, Draft information and more. I bought the book last year and kept it right by my chair where I watch football for the whole season because I would thumb through it every Sunday. I have been waiting for this book to come out. Be sure to get it before the season starts.

The NFL's Record & Fact Book was once an necessary part of any football fan's library. Now it is just a waste of money.
The book claims "It is the essential information book for the game." Yet this year they decided to drop birthdates for players - an essental piece of information.
The rest of the book contains only rudimentary information that you can find for free on the internet.
Football fans are demanding more info and the NFL keeps offering less and less.

It's not just a Pokedex...
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-04
WOW! This is the best guide for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl by FAR! It's not just a Pokedex, but rather much more! It not only contains information on 490 Pokemon, (Yes, 490, unfortunatly it lacks total information on Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus) but it also has CRUCIAL information about what to do after you've beaten the Pokemon League. Up to that point, it's all easy, just go along with the story. BUT once you've beaten the Pokemon League, everything in the game suddenly becomes unclear. You might KNOW there's more legendaries to catch, but you might not know where. (For Example, I had not the First Clue about going to Turnback Cave for Giratina, but when I got the guide, It led me straight there!) You might KNOW about the Battle Tower, but not who the Tower Tycoon is and when you battle him. You might KNOW about Cresselia and Fullmoon Island, but not how to get there or what to do once you've seen Cresselia. You might KNOW about Pokemon, but not at what exact level they evolve, or what exact level they learn a specific move, or if they learn it at all. All this is CRUCIAL information that you will find EXCLUSIVELY in this guide. And that's not it, either. In case you don't know which region a Pokemon is from, there is a Table of Contents in Alphabetical order at the VERY BEGINNING, making it extremely easy to find pokemon. Also, a 2 page map containing all of Sinnoh as well as the names of all the cities and places of interest. Also tells you all of the items you may find in a certain place, AND information on EVERY ROUTE AND CAVE about things you can do there BEFORE AND AFTER beating the Pokemon League, again, more CRUCIAL information EXCLUSIVE to this guide. And again, there's more-you can find information on EVERY HM and TM in the back of this book, as well as all the contest moves, items, where to get every TM, where to get each item, and a Pokemon Weakness easy look-up chart with the weaknesses AND RESISTANCES of all 490 pokemon, (yes, remember? 490...Arceus, Darkrai, and Shaymin were unknown when this guide was released) and information about where to capture any Pokemon in the Pal Park, with a detailed map of it, and how rare they will be, aka how much time it will take to catch them, prizes at the Pal Park, etc. ALL CRUCIAL INFORMATION. Also tells you where to catch ANY pokemon in the game, (as long as you CAN catch it) INCLUDING what route for Pokeradar, and descriptions to every pokemon from both Diamond and Pearl. Also a comparison of the few pokemon you can't catch in Diamond, and of the few you can't catch in pearl, as well as the list of the 50 pokemon you can not catch in Sinnoh at all, (Previous starters and legendaries, event pokemon, with a FEW unexpected ones; Tropius and Tangela...) a berrydex, all pokemon abilities and what they do, pokemon personalities, natures, what wild pokemon hold what item, A TON of information on the Underground, and that's just the Pokemon Data Lookup section of the book! There's still the Capture Guide, which is about 2 times as thick, and the Post-Game Scenario! This book is a MUST For Diamond and Pearl Fans!

At first when I bought this I thought it was going to just sit around, but as my son played through Pokemon Diamond he started referring to it more and more. The best description of it now is "very worn".

The fact that every pokemon is listed along with where it can be obtained is its best selling point. The book is really geared for after you've completed the game portion and are working on "catching them all".

You could probably find all of the information in this book online, but not in one location. Having it there to refer to while playing is easily worth the cost.

Even as a mother I can get into Star Wars, Bionicles, dinosaurs, and other hobbies of my 7-year old son, however, I can't say that I enjoy Pokemon. But noone can deny that the over the decade-old Pokemon craze is here to stay as witnessed by the phenomenal success of Diamond and Pearl. My son refers to this book like a bible and Pokemon Diamond is the only DS game that he hasn't grown tired of even though he's had it almost a year.

Wow...every page is like a sock in the gut, and like many memoirs full of twisted events, I find myself hoping it isn't true. But what's most remarkable is Wiesel's legacy, how he survived and lived to tell about it as a respected intellectual (this isn't a part of the story). Historically relevant, brutally tragic, painfully morbid. A true story about hanging on to life, and literally losing everything but. It's small enough to read in a day, and that might be the best way to go about it. I read it in small, painful chunks. As I read it, I often felt ashamed of humanity for it's self-destructive cruelty. This story includes the extra detail they didn't put in your history book.

The Most Gripping Story I Have Ever Read

Review Date: 2008-05-23
As an English teacher, I have my ninth graders read this memoir every year. And every year, I am moved to tears. Not only does Mr. Wiesel tell of his devastating experience of dehumanization in the Holocaust, but he tells it with such eloquence and mastery of the English language, that one would wonder if he was always a writer. This is his first book and it reads like a story written by some of the greatest writers of the literary canon. Be forewarned that his story will change your perspective on life and will most likely you move you to tears as well. If it doesn't, than as my Pastor would say, "your wood is wet."

You may be asking yourself, "why would I want to read something that will just get me upset?" My answer to that is that if we don't get upset, how can we facilitate change? Ignorance leads to bliss? No way--it leads to destruction. Furthermore, antisemitism hasn't gone away. And in the midst of the violence and hatred exploding in the middle east 63 years after Hitler was defeated, there are millions of people who once again want to annihilate the Jews and are devising plans to do just that. So this memoir must be read. Mr. Wiesels' story must be heard.

From the moment we had began on this book in our classes it was truly an eye opener. Words cannot describe the misery that was felt in each and every word this book had within. The book itself had casted night over all of us, especially me as we listened intently on what could be known as the most heart striking tale. From the start of the camp to the death marchings in the snow, the story gives a full eye account of the horror that was seen in the Nazi war. No story ever has been written so amazingly nor dramaticly as this. Yes, it touched me darkly and it burned deeply but this story, this story is something everyone should read because no one should forget what happened so long ago. You cant go your whole life without reading this book, its something that you should not miss.

I give it a rating of five stars and I hope you, the reader, can also find that too.

Review Date: 2008-09-03
Despite knowing that fans of Miss Day were mounting an effort to post negative reviews of this book in order to discourage people from reading it, I tried to approach the story with an unjaundiced eye. And it didn't take long before I forgot the hype and became totally absorbed in the story of Doris Day, legendary singer and movie star. Yes, there are no astounding new revelations (unless one has not read previous Day biographies), but her story is one that deserves to be told, including the years since her authorized biography was published many years ago. The book was hard to put down, and I loved looking at the pictures.
Contrary to the opinions of some, I don't believe this book casts aspersions on Miss Day. It simply portrays her as she is...determined, talented, intelligent, generous, and a powerful friend for creatures who have no voice to speak for themselves.
I truly respect Miss Day, and am certain that this latest biography will spark interest in her work from a whole new generation of admirers. And what's wrong with that?

Review Date: 2008-08-27
I thought the author was a bit unfair to Day. He seems to have written the book to show that her life was miserable and she refused to admit it, which really ticks him off. Rather than descending into an alcoholic or drug addicted mess, becoming suicidal or losing her mind, she kept her chin up in the old fashioned style. Good for her.

If there is one thing that we can all be sure of in life this is it: no one who only wants to be a wife and mother ends up a major motion picture star. It takes a lot of ambition and guts to become a star. I don't think that it just happens when the person is not looking. Day seems to have been conflicted about her success. We're all conflicted about something, however. It does not necessarily lead to misery.

The author has an idea that the "girl next door" image is something bad. He does not seem to understand why so many millions liked this woman. She seems like someone you could know, there is something real and authentically American about her, which is why some don't like her. She is one of the few movie stars who seemed like someone you could encounter in real life who is terrifically likable, direct, good natured, humorous, and trustworthy, kind of like Jennifer Aniston is today, intelligent without being intellectual, honest. Day was believable as a "career girl" and as a mother and housewife. She is attractive in a normal real way, not enough to be stared at by strangers and seeming to be so "hot" every minute of the day, but lovely in a way someone can be that you know. At least this is the viewpoint of a woman. Men may differ.

Not even worth one star...

This book is a sad waste of time and money. Unfortunately the reader leaves this book not knowing any more truth about Doris Day than what Ms. Day already made public to the world. Instead, the reader will leave with unsubstantiated opinions, which can not be proven to be fact. And taints the truth about an amazingly talented, and decent human being. If you want to read the hard, real facts of Doris Day's life, read her own autobiography. You can purchase it right here on Amazon for a minimal price. In her own book, Doris Day was extremely transparent about her life. Joys, mistakes and life lessons. It is all there in "Her Own Story", written with A.E. Hotchner.

Review Date: 2008-08-10
I loath people that exploit others for the benefit of their own monetary gain. Mr. Kaufman has done just that in this "Enquire like" book. He writes about Doris as if he knew her personally. When in fact, all he has done is taken excerpts from liner notes, here say from so-called reliable sources, and bits and pieces from her own autobiography. He has used these findings to his own advantage in creating what he calls the untold story of the girl next door. Now in retirement, Doris deserves the right to her own privacy and need not be the subject of Mr. Kaufman's malicious exaggeration.

From page one I knew that this was not just an everyday basic biography. Every page kept me wanting to read more into Bernie's life. He holds nothing back from his crazy "smack you in the head" family to his love life, his many jobs, homes, and losses of loved ones. After reading this you will truly see what an amazing strong man Bernie Mac was and he will be missed dearly.

I'm still not over the loss of George Carlin, so it seems really unfair, to lose another of our most important entertainers: a comedian. For me, comedians are much more than people who make me laugh; they inform and help me put things into perspective.

Bernie Mac was from my neck of the woods: the south side of Chicago. We grew up around the same time, and we had something in common. His book: "Maybe You Never Cry Again," reminded me of how I had also used comedy, as a device to deflect from the pain in my life.

I first met him just after 9/11, at his book signing at Eso Won Books, an Afro-centric book store in Los Angeles. The people there know me, because I am one of the few white persons attending its book signings.

The night that Bernie was to appear, Fox News interviewed me, no doubt, because I was one of the two white folks there. "I think that comedy is very important, especially now. Comedians will be instrumental in helping to heal our wounds," I said.

As approached him, Bernie broke into a huge smile. "Aw, baby, you can party with me anytime!" he beamed. I leaned in and said "Bernie, you keep healing the world with your comedy." "Thank you for that," he said, embracing me.

I've seen Bernie's standup, and had always been amazed at his honesty. I saw The Kings of Comedy four times in the theater, as well as adding it to my DVD collection. It will always be one of my favorites, as will he. The fact that so few knew that he was ill, is a testament to the kind of person he was - and his legacy will remain as he lived his life: without compromise. It's a great lesson for everyone, and the best tribute to him, would be that we try to do the same.

This bio had me holding on and reading it like the rollercoaster ride that it is. The story of a lifetime of crying and laughing was so intense from one chapter to the next that I realized I too was crying and laughing at the turn of the page. It's sad that his life ended so early. It's for certain he would have had more pearls of wisdom, either written or verbal, to share in his own distictive style. Yeah, Bernie! I appreciate every word shared in this book! Bernie Mac exposes the readers to the hardship, loss, and struggle that he endured on his road to success. Many would have given up years before he saw success. Throughout the book, he reiterates the depth and strength of his mother and the many lessons (MACisms) that she engrained in him. I never expected to experience the range of emotions that were stirred within my spirit throughout the reading of his story. Great big shoutout to his wife, Rhonda, you are an inspiration and a motivation. A difficult but beautiful story. Thanks for not giving up during your journey. I greatly appreciate your story.

I bought this book after I saw Janis in concert in Chicago. I had always loved her ever since I was I was a 17 year old boy who could identify with "At Seventeen" which was released that year. Her book was beautifully written and both humorous and sad. However, at all times, you feel the hope that is the signature of her songs. So many people think of her music as depressing, but there's always hope in each of her songs.

Janis has learned many hard lessons in her life so far (she has only just turned 50) and this autobiography is unsparing in her many days and nights of joy and anguish. Emerging from long chapters describing many aspects of her life seemingly beyond her control, Janis Ian finally has happiness, security and wisdom to help her on for the decades to come. Throughout all the dark times, she has continued to express herself in fine songwriting. Reading her extraordinary testiment, one can only applaud and thank heavens that Janis has come through.

This is an often disturbingly sad but ultimately amazing story of a talented, sensitive and remarkably strong woman. Well done, Janis!

Society's Child: Soundtrack for my Life

I remember a dark night in the early sixties, the day after Thanksgiving. I was 8 or ten years old, lying in be with a high fever, the tinny sounds of a transistor radio my only companion as I alternated between sweating and freezing. The top-40 station I was listening to went silent for a moment, then began to play a young girl singing a song that would stay with me my entire life.

I didn't hear much of Janis on the radio for the next several years, but every time I heard Society's Child, I shut out everything else, and listened to that song. I would understand the lyrics years later.

In 1974-75, I was a senior in high school. I'd been on one date. I was a victim of hormones, and terrified of asking a girl out. I had no self-confidence, but acted totally self-assured whenever I was around others. I was in agony - how could I explain what was going on to anyone? No one else felt this way!

Then I heard "At Seventeen".

Janis had reestablished herself in my life, and actually made it possible to finish high school. She gave me my life back, by explaining that I wasn't alone.

Years later, I was introduced to Janis by Mike Resnick. Initially a blithering idiot, I couldn't talk as tears ran down my face. My wife translated; idiot-to-English is a valuable tool. When I was finally able to talk, Janis and I had a conversation, and I was able to thank her for everything she'd done. She simply smiled, and said that she hadn't done anything, just told the truth.

It was a Universal Truth.

A conversation with Janis Ian is never one-sided. While she may talk about herself, she is more interested in you. The stage persona is great, but the person is incredible. Conversations are about anything and everything, and altogether too short (regardless of how long they last), and you always want more.

Janis' autobiography, "Society's Child" is just like a conversation with Janis Ian. when I read it, I heard her voice, saw her gestures and mannerisms, felt how genuine she really is. And I couldn't put it down.

I felt I was sitting in a room with Janis, and she was speaking directly to me. Mutual acquaintances were captured truly, as were events I had direct knowledge of. I finished the book in a single day. I know that there is more to come, and I can't wait for what the future brings.

Janis Ian is funny, serious, witty, smart, charming, beautiful, self-deprecating, and has one of the biggest hearts there is. Read her autobiography, listen to her music, see her concerts. You will be glad you did.

maybe you're looking becaus you're a Janis Ian fan. maybe you are looking because you like lifee stories. maybe you have no idea who Janis Ian is, you just want to read something you'll enjoy...this is the book for you. Interesting, exciting, insightful, truthful, funny, heart breaking, it's truth as good as fiction... it's truth as good as an other autobiography. it's what you are looking for, whatever that may be, and add to that that Janis Ian is a person of great intelligence, talent, integrity and respect ( how often do you hear that about a legend?) Janis Ian is the real thing and she writes in such a way it begs you to read more. You will love this book!

Janis Ian is a personal hero to so many women and men whose lives were unfolding at the same time as hers, and now she has produced this wonderful book, not only for us but for new and future generations to experience and enjoy. Even as this autobiography is on one hand a very personal story told with honesty, courage, introspection and insight, it is also a literary retrospective of a time in history that needed to be lived to be believed. As if her body of amazing musical work weren't enough to do so, this beautiful book stands as a lasting testament to a life that has been, and continues to be lived with grace, beauty and integrity.

P.S. "Jesse" is the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
