It's going back

I just recieved this pokedex, and it's going right back in exchange for the prima version.

If you want a guide simply to have a list of all the pokemon, their types, evolution levels, if they need a special item to evolve, and list of moves, then this book will be perfect for you.

The pictures are good, the pages are nice, it's a good quality book, it even has a bit of a walkthrough post elite four, but,

IF YOU WANTED A GUIDE SO YOU WOULD KNOW WHERE POKEMON ARE LOCATED, THIS BOOK HAS NO INFORMATION FOR YOU.

There is absolutly nothing on where to find pokemon or even which version you will find the various pokemon in (not as big of a deal for seasoned gamers, but a big deal for newbies and anyone with only one version). The #1 reason I purchased my first pokedex at the R/S/E level was because I had found all the ones that were common and needed help with rare and legendary pokemon.

The prima guide has typos, this is true, but, they also have locations.

It just depends on what you want out of your dex.

Informative And Great

This pokemon pokedex is great. It shows the average stats of a pokemon and the post elite four walkthrough. It has a detailed map and art map of the sinnoh region. It shows all the moves the pokemon can learn and when it learns it. It shows the TM and HM moves it can learn also. To find the pokemon you have to use the back of the pullout map. Many people complain about it but it is easy. The pokedex does go in numerical order.

I like the Pokedex because it tells you a lot about every Pokemon. What I don't like about this book is it doesn't tell you which Pokeball to use to catch the Pokemon. All in all it is a great book to buy because it tells you some things that you might not be able to find in the guide book.

Not as good as the Prima guide in my opinion

As stated in other reviews, this pokedex does not include information on where to get the pokemon on the pages. That information is found in Volume 1 - the game guide by Nintendo Power or on the back of the pullout map in this pokedex. I found flipping back and forth between the two books to be quite cumbersome and that map... it's not going to last long if you keep using it by pulling it out and laying it out. Not to mention that it is just as inconvenient. References should have information easily accessible, and not just there for you to hunt it down.

See my review on the Prima Pokedex for more information, but I much prefer that version compared to this one. All the information on the pokemon is much more conveniently organized (and more in depth) in Prima's version than in this pokedex.

NOT Ultimate at all

This "Pokedex" provides the user with so little information that its purpose is lost. All it lists are the attacks the pokemon can learn and information that no one really cares about like its size and weight (which can easily be obtained simply by using the in game pokedex although you must have the pokemon). It does not give the reader ANY information about where to obtain the pokemon. Besides the lack of information, Nintendo goes so far as to call it the "Ultimate" dex while, for some reason, not including information for the final 3 pokemon. The "Ultimate Dex" ends at pokemon #490, Manaphy. It seems that they don't want people to know there are actually 3 more pokemon after that: Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus. These pokemon, while impossible to obtain without hacking until Nintendo gets around to releasing them, are still pokemon and should have been included in the "Ultimate Dex" like Mew, Jirachi, and Celebi are even though they too are "secret" pokemon.

Jim Roberts really wrote a winner with this book. The pictures are great, but one picture in particular of a store display of three new custom color mid-fifties Precisions is worth the price of the book. Bravo.

Excellent book for Players & Non-players alike! A+++++++

This book is extremely entertaining and educational. I have been playing bass over 25 years, and have enjoyed it completely. Jim Roberts covers a wide range of electric bass guitar history, and also identifies some classic albums and bassists as examples of electric bass history in the making. This is also a wonderful book for beginners, who want to learn how the bass guitar changed the sound and texture of music since the 1950s. Fantastic photographs and memoribilia throughout. I highly recommend it!

An indispensable history of the electric bass

New to playing bass, I was thrilled to discover this book. Roberts doesn't assume any pre-existing knowledge on the part of the reader, yet even if you've been playing rock and roll for decades, you will learn a ton and have fun in the process. If you have any interest at all in the electric bass, buy this book. It covers the history of the instrument, its manufacturers, and its most famous players, in detail. Tons of great photos. Yet, the most important feature of this book is how it puts the electric bass in its proper place in the history of rock and roll--a far more important place than you might think, prior to what you'll learn in these pages. Not to be missed!

If you're one of those people that think only of Kaye Ballard as one of the "Mothers-In-Law" from TV, or that funny album with the balloons on it, treat yourself to her wonderful autobiography, "How I Lost 10 Pounds in 53 Years.!" Not only a fascinating story of the lady herself, but a warm-hearted look at practically the history of show business (Vaudeville, Broadway, Night Clubs, movies, radio & television). She's done it all, and you'll meet your favorites (and a few not-so) as only someone who's been there and done it can tell. Best of all, Kaye is her honest and humble self (What? A star with humility?) Yup, throughout her illustrious career, she's still the star-struck kid in Cleveland's RKO Palace worshiping the idols on the silver screen, and dreaming of Hollywood. Haven't we all been there? Starting as a teenager, performing in a Chinese restaurant (it's funny already!), through to today's still very active cancer-surviving octogenarian, here's Kaye at her funny, loveable best, sharing her successes and disappointments in one of the best autobiographies in a long, long time! Read it, you'' love it!

I recently read Ms. Ballard's memoir in 10 days while I was staying with my parents as my mother recovered from knee replacement surgery. It was the perfect book to read during this time--very funny and light--but also an honest, heartfelt tale. If you don't know who Kaye Ballard is, well, you should. She's a wonderful comic actress who's starred in films (The Ritz), on TV (Cinderella, The Doris Day Show, The Mothers-in-Law) and on stage (The Golden Apple, Carnival, The Pirates of Penzance, Follies). I saw her perform back in the '90s in a small cabaret called Toulouse in Chicago (now sadly closed). It was a horrible snowy night--and my friends and I were the only ones who braved the elements to see her show. And so Ms. Ballard--being the classy, talented dame that she is--performed for us. We all LOVED her--and you will LOVE her book. The lady knows how to write an honest, entertaining account of her fascinating life. So sit back, relax and let Kaye tell you all about her legendary 60-year career. You'll have a wonderful time--I know I did.

Kaye Ballard still funny, entertaining and lovable.

I enjoyed reading this book very much - it gave real insight into the life of a single woman in show business. Kaye is a fantastic personality and very honest in this book about her career and friendshiips. She is a real lady with a great sense of humor. Nice photos too of some old favorites when they were younger. I would definitely buy this book again. A+

A real treat

Kaye Ballard's name is well known in show business: she's performed in burlesque, nightclubs, big bands, and stage and here provides a memoir packed with anecdotes from her career. Her upbeat memoir comes packed with anecdotes from her 50-year career and will prove a real treat for any familiar with either Kaye Ballard's career or the world of stage and TV.

This book is GREAT! Probaly the only book in the series that the TeleVision adaption kept completely - The outsider is a great piece of literature. Its cute, quick, daring, and intresting. ESPECIALLY if you keep reading the series, you'll notice how unique and great the customers are. A Definate Must-read. Esspecially for teens.

Although meant for young adult readers, this book is a worthy read by adult standards as well. As a lover of Roswell the WB series, I was at first elated to discover that they were rooted in this wonderful series by Melinda Metz. After I read the series, however, I became apalled at what a mess the show writers made of the situations and characters involved. It is unfortunate that they lost their vision of who their characters were meant to be. Luckily, Metz never does.

Wow! What a great read! I couldn't put it down. I wanted to read the book because I'm such a big fan of the TV show. It's soo much better!! The story is basically a modern Romeo and Juliet love story. Max is an alien from another planet who is in love with a human girl named Liz. When he saves her life, both their lives and everyone elses dramatically changes. This book focuses on Max and LIz's love story but there are also other interesting characters like the other 2 aliens, Micheal and Isabel, and Liz's 2 friends Alex and Maria who all have their own stories unfolding. The first book is by far my favorite out of the series, but you have to read them all. Just to warn some people: it is a story about ALIENS but it mostly centers on the characters relationships with each other. I would steer clear if your a BIg SF fan.

I was surprised at how close the TV adaptation was.

The pilot episode of Roswell was one of the better episodes of the series I've always thought, I got a copy of this book because it's the one the series is based on. While the writing style is probably aimed more at the teen market if you're older and liked the series this book won't be a bad item.
A few things are very different, Max is a blond and blue eyed senior, Liz is Liz Ortecho (whose dead older sister Rosa O'D on drugs)- instead of Parker, Michael Guerin is an A student (all three aliens are)and Isabel is the little sister- a junior in High School.
Liz's shooting is a little different than the series, Sheriff Valenti and son Kyle are meaner (and Valenti is a member of a secret government anti alien group). The incubation pods are mentioned, as is the cave, but in the book Michael came out of his pod days before the Evans (who shared a pod). A lot of things show similarity to the first season of Roswell, although not all were in the same episode- it seems obvious to me that the writers used this book as a sort of guide.
I don't know if I'll get the rest of the series but this one was a quick, fun little thing to read, and a lot more like what you saw on TV than most book to TV adaptations usually are.

This book touched me tremendously in a very personal way. It brings to light that "Depression" is a true life in the dark. Chondra does enlighten readers that it is okay to admit to the illness and that medications which have a stigma placed on them are sometimes necessary to get through the darkest days. I hope that this brings more light to the world that mental illness is an illness just as with any other organ in the body. Thank you Chondra for sharing your intimate times with us. God Bless you......

This book was great! Chonda kept the flow of her experience going and adding her humor with the pain. I too have been in that "gray" room and like her I don't ever want to go back. When I finally relied on God and my meds I got better. The Lord was just waiting for me to say "help" and to listen. I think this book will help many people realize that it's ok to take medication for depression or other mental health issues. We don't seem to have a problem taking medicine for other health issues. I have already shared this book with friends and they are planning to buy copies to give to family/friends who need it.

Chonda Pierce has been tops on my list since I saw her perform in the Washington area about a year and a half ago. I've savored many of her books and videos since that time. This particular book is close to home, honest and still demonstrates her wonderful gift of humor. An enjoyable and educational read.

The fellow who is teaching is not a native speaker & mispronounces words. The printed material referred to on the DVD is a BIG help. I've found at least 1 error on the recording where they repeat 1 of the letter sounds in the alphabet. I've tried the program offered thru Univ of HI at Hilo (some lessons avail on Itues), but some of the printed material is no longer available.

This set of CDs is professionally developed and suitable for people who are committed to learning the language. It presents a broad range of vocabulary and the structure of the spoken Hawaiian and the translations is clear and easy to follow. What this course lacks is a written translation of what is in the CDs. People who have different learning styles therefore miss out on this extra support. Also missing are basic conversational structures that would allow the listeners to understand spoken Hawaiian "in the street" and begin to converse themselves.
