This book has far exceeded my expectations! I feel confident that I can plan and build my own shed (suited to my needs and budget) and do it for far less money than a chintzy pre-fab one from a DIY store. This book has a great format and loads of helpful information, things only someone who builds sheds for a living would know. I can't wait for the ground to dry a bit so I can get started building!

Having ordered 3 books on sheds based on the on-line reviews, this book along with Barns, Sheds and Outbuildings: Plan, Design, Build (Ultimate Guide To... [Paperback] The Ultimate Guide to Yard and Garden Sheds: Plan, Design, Build.... this is the only book you will need. The other two, while they show up under, "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought..." pale in comparison to the information contained in this book. In addition, the two I listed above are almost identical in content, same photos, diagrams etc. I have reviewed a couple of other offerings while at Home Depot and Lowes and while they may be good for ideas on style this book is all you need for construction. Enjoy it.

After reading through this book, I had the confidence to build my own 10 by 10 outdoor shed.
This book does not contain blueprints for building sheds form start to finish. However, it does have a lot of pictures and informative tips to get you started. Often times I was able to simply look at the pictures to see how they did things.
It contains good step-by-step instructions for setting up various types of bases, and the section on roofing really helped me out.
Overall, I would recommend it if you need some ideas or some tips on how to get started or what to watch out for.

This book is a must have for moms (or dads)! It is very detailed and organized in such a way to get help for your family managing question quickly. No need to read through the whole book, just use the index in the back to get right to a solution that will help you create an organized and happy home. I love this book!! Thank you Kathy Peel!

If you've read Kathy's books, you know they are based on her Family Manager "system" she created over 10 years ago. If you've hesitated to purchase her recent books thinking they're all the same info., don't hesitate anymore! This is the book I've been waiting for by Kathy. It is organized by the 7 departments she teaches about, and is an excellent reference. It has a great index for quick finds, and is full of great information.

I grew up when my folks did most of this stuff as everyday practise. I subscribe to a newsletter that has some of these hints. However, this book is still worth money, and more. It's partly about saving money, recycling stuff giving it a second chance before hitting the garbage. Mainly for me, I hate running out to get something when there is something laying around the house that would do just as well. Whatever your angle for following these hints, money, the environment, or just wanting to save a bit of time; this is the book. Besides I like having a book in my hand instead of running to the computer every time something needs doing. Somethings I would never think of looking up. Like we have five cats, one have chewed through several of my headphone wires. The hint is to rub the cord with soap, cats don't like the taste. Now that saved me some money.

Haley's hints is a great book to go to for finding how-to information. It has been very helpful when I know there's a better way to clean something when the over-the-counter products are not performing, or when I don't have them on-hand. This book will save you time and money and you'll go to it often.

I've had this book for over 2 years now and have used it intermittently (gardening and storage tips, mainly). Unfortunately, I often forget it's in the house and use expensive, store-bought solutions. Today, however, my bathroom sink was clogged and I have a sick child so didn't want to run to the store for Liquid Plumber (my first instinct). I remembered the book, tried the baking soda/vinegar/boiling water solution and it worked great! So, not only did I save the $5+, I used something much 'greener' than chemicals (one of my new year's resolutions). I'm going to have to look at the contents of the book again and store it in a more handy area so I don't forget about it again!

I remember reading the first edition in the mid '70s, and this new edition has all the information I was hoping it would have. It is perfect for me, someone who is somewhat handy when a problem presents itself. I need a reference to give me the correct information about solving problems involving home repair or DIY. I would suggest that you get this out of the library first to see if it is helpful to you. You just might get a copy because it is so useful.

This is an excellent "fix it yourself" book that includes many fixes you can find only in The Handyman Magazine. The magazine is a top-notch periodical, in my opinion, for guys like me - mediocre at making everyday fixes to common problems around the home. This is the latest upadate I could find, and for the price, it was an excellent deal. For all you do-it-yourselfers who have two left hands, and for indepent women who need to economize, this is an a very good book. Covers most every day maintenance and repair stuff that comes up when you least expect and need a fairl quick, but easy and inexpensive fix. I'd buy this one again.

checked this out from the library, but had to purchase it! first of all, i knew NOTHING about gardening, so this gave me a starting point and help with the basics. i am slowly learning ... and have started my first vegetable garden! while there are very FEW pictures, the info itself was valuable to me. i have a book that is chock-full of pics, but the text is designed for a more advanced gardener. i love to look at that (other) book, but i needed something very basic to begin with- and this is it! good price for all the info you get. a must for those just starting out from scratch! good luck & have fun with your hands in the dirt!

Give up your balls and other contraptions! This thing is the best! There are so many ways to use this item. I highly reccomend that you buy the book On a Roll @ Home, Home Exercises for Core Strength and Massage on the Foam Roller which shows you great excercises AND massages and stretches. This is an integral part of my fitness routine now. I look forward to using this after my cooldown or anytime I need to unknot. A chiropractor could not get my back cracked better than this item. My spine just pops into alignment with this. I love it! PLUS, you know with the Yamuna balls how you can massage the front of your thighs? (Mine are tight as tree trunks) well with this item I can get a larger area and with much more ease. It takes less time to get the same effects with less effort.

I love this book. I have incorporated it into my workout regimen. I highly recommend it. Gayle Kendall, Vice President, Pilates Suit Corporation

Read this book with the idea that whether or not you agree with everything, it will provide many opportunities for reflection. The author seems out-of-touch, a bit, with the current generation. Her ideals and opinions about "school" sometimes come off as flaky. For example, she's disappointed that someone would leave public school for another way to meet school requirements. Even though that person is just fine with that, her disappointment is over not choosing her definition of "unschooling"--as if they still don't get how brain washed they are.
Bottom line, if one has reservations about the public/traditional education offered, this book might be just the needed inspiration to seek an alternative. The second part is especially useful. Use it as a resource, but don't overlook others. If you are seeking validation to challenging the institution of school, there are other better written books.

After reading this book at the age of 17, I got a GED, went to community college, and now hold a Master's in English. As a highschool student I had a 1.7 GPA and as a graduate student my GPA was a 3.8. I have Grace Llewellyn to thank.
This book gave me the courage to step away from public school and follow my own path. I realized how much energy I was wasting rebelling against a system I could just walk away from.
God bless Grace Llewellyn.

This is not an educator calling for change, this is a self-centered child that wants licentiousness, not liberty. She thinks all kids are able to be free. She forgets the debt they owe to the past. Everything we have today, material and otherwise, is due to the efforts of our ancestors, for better or for worse. When we are infants, we are helpless, so our parents feed us and take care of us. Because of these facts, we should not grow up, as the author suggests, to do anything we want. Instead, we should learn so that we can claim the liberty to contribute to society in the manner we choose, without being subserviant to any person, idea, or substance. This is a different concept, entirely. The author justs wants to say, "to hell with everything, it is all about me." This is immature. Take the experimentation with drugs, for example. That is not freedom. When you become addicted, then you are still a slave. The author wants freedom (licentiousness), BUT SHE NEGLECTS HER RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS that we ALL owe as a debt to the past. This is the difference - being free to do what you want, versus being free to satisfy obligations and responsibilities in you own way, not the way dictated by someone else, such as a governmental bureaucrat.
I agree that the school system is beyond fixing. I believe in educating yourself. However, due to inexperience, you need the guidance of a mentor. A good mentor will give you access to the best thinking of the past, while still allowing you to do the work of educating yourself. No man is an island unto himself, but this author would have everyone running around doing whatever they wanted. As I said, we owe a debt to the past, and that debt is satisfied by having the liberty to reach your fullest potential in a manner of your choosing, not to experiment with drugs and become a burden on society. If education were of the mentor type, we might have less people dependent on welfare and government for their needs.
This author's writings suggest a child-like being who is self-centered, irresponsible, immature, and without character. Therefore, she has no business telling other children how to live their lives. I am all for freedom, but only if one is adult enough to know that our ancestors gave us that freedom, so we must use it to become self-reliant, productive, and decent people who are indeed able to think for themselves. They would not be slaves to anybody or anything (like drugs).

This is the only review I have ever written so take note.
This book changed my life.I went through school being vaugly aware of the opression I was suffering but I figured,as most teens would, that it was unavoidable. Keep in mind I was no deliquent. I made highest honors every term and was in AP classes. Despite that, I knew there was more to life than my grades. This book was easy for me to relate to and easy to understand. It listed the logical steps to leaving school plus dealing with legal ramifications and other things like that.I first read this book 4 months ago and I am now a 16 year old attending college. It can be done!Must read for everyone.

Every few years I read this book over and love it every time. It is a great book to introduce kids to the plight of the Jews and non-Jews of German-occupied countries during WWII. My 10 year old read it and loved it too and it brought up a lot of questions. Highly recommended.

10-year-old Annemarie Johannesen narrates this story (based on real events) set in Denmark during WWII. The Danish resistance arranged to transport many Jews to safety in Sweden after they found out that Jews were being sent to concentration camps by the Nazis.
Annemarie is not Jewish, but her best friend, Ellen, is. Annemarie's family helps smuggle Ellen and her parents, along with several other Jewish families, out of the country. Lowry manages to give the reader a sense of the horror of the Holocaust without going into graphic detail.

This was a fantastic book. The characters, especially Ellen and AnneMarie,
are very brave and have a strong friendship. The plot is really exciting, because you never know if the characters will make it safely. I recommend this book because you learn a lot about history and what Jewish people had to go through when the Nazis were in Denmark. The ending was good too, but I won't give that away!

Struggling through the ravages of World War II, Annemarie, her family, and her best friend Ellen wait in hiding until the Nazis retreat and let Denmark free once more. This wonderful story "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry, is about friendship, tragedy, and, love. It also integrates a lot of useful life lessons, such as: being brave and deciding what to do wisely.
This story really captured my attention because it made me inquire as I read along. It also gave me a perfect image of what Denmark was like during the Nazi invasion.
I recommend this story to children in the fourth grade or higher because it has strong vocabulary words that are worth learning.

I've never built a shed but I do have some framing knowledge The info on roofing is very helpful to me. I was also psyched the section for the shed on the cover had measured drawings for the trim boards and keystone pieces for the gable ends and over the windows. Should make life a little easier for me.
