This book sits in the Family Room - the heart of the home. It is so simple to grab and find whatever fits the moment. It could be a simple teaching moment (child not sharing, angry words, etc.) or it could be a family study time with discussion & prayer. SO awesome. I love this book - and now that I'm in the habit of grabbing it in moments of need, it gives ME time to cool down if necessary. ALSO great for encouragement when a child does well in something, not just to correct them.

Great reference for Christian parents!

I have been using this book for almost 10 years now to refer to biblical scripture. I have found it to be an excellent resource for teachable moments when it helps to have a scripture back-up to explain what God says about a topic. We all have to pick our battles, especially as our kids get older. This has eliminated many battles because my kids understand the power in hearing it from God's word. I also like the activities that are included with many of the topics. Having a tangible way for my kids to learn about a topic helps reinforce the real meaning of the scripture for them. EVERY parent should own a copy.

Deals with many topics such as:anger, faith, discernment, greed, integrity, honesty, money, laziness, self-respect, obedience, and habits, just to name a few. Each title lists numerous Bible verses, discussion questions, steps for action and parenting tips. Excellent book. The author has basically done the work for you!!

Fantastic! This has been so helpful in the life of my family. We use it very often. It is so easy to look things up and use the icons from the key to instruct you how to put these thoughts into actions. Great Bible refrences! There is a Bible verse for every topic! It's just a great reference to have. It keeps you out of sticky situations when you do not know how to explain things to your children, and even yourself! I often give this to my girl friends at baby showers. So great!

Must have!

This is an excellent resource, full of practical tips for dealing with a large variety of health issues. I have at least 2 shelves full of health & medical advice books, some quite gigantic. But THIS is the book I always reach for when dealing with health problems. It gets right to the point & offers a list of things you can do to deal with each problem. (I just bought an updated one for me & another copy for a friend so that I don't have to keep reading her mine over the phone while she takes notes.)

Although this cost a bit more than I initially wanted to spend, I'm very happy with it. It has nice pen-friendly stiff pages, cute graphics, and a sturdy hook to hang it with. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I would have liked the spaces for each day to be just a tiny bit bigger. Oh well, when I fill up the available space in this one, I'll just buy another!

This book contains tons of high quality, color photos. The photos take up about half the book. Although the photos are nice and give me a good idea of what I need to do, I still found myself wanting a more detailed explanation on many of the topics. I am fairly handy around the house. Yet, I found myself needing and wanting information that this book did not mention.
In all fairness, if the book went into details on all of the topics, it would be a foot thick and cost a lot more.

This book has got to be one of the best illustrated wiring books. I have used this book for multiple minor projects. The photographs allow you to follow closely and clearly as to the correct process for wiring. I lost my 1st book to rain, just ordering my office reference book now. Now I have a "working copy" and a home reference copy (safetly tucked away). The book is good enought that I bought it twice.

Very informative book which will be referred to constantly. I found muliple tasks which needs to be repaired and/or added to my older home. Anyone can repair or replace electrical problems within their home or garage with the help of this book. Not only did it inform me of electrical projects, it explained cable DIY projects. Stanley did such a great job with this book, I am going to order more DIY books for other repairs for my home. Thanks, Stanley and Amazon for offering this book at a resonable price.

The Stanley Complete Wiring Book is great for tackling the weekend projects all the way to completely wiring an entire house.

The book is laid out in easy to find sections with easy to follow instructions and detailed steps. The pages are not cheap, thin pages but heavy, glossy, easy to turn pages. The book has over 800 full-color pictures and detailed illustrations.

Whatever your project is, you can find it in this book. Each project begins with a prestart checklist and tips. It also includes problem solving and explains options. At the end of the book, it includes metric conversions.

Sections include:
Working Safely, Getting Ready, Checking Your Electrical System, Basic Techniques, Repairs, Switches and Receptacles, Lights and Fans, Planning New Electrical Service, Installing Cable and Boxes, New Receptacles and Lights, Installing Fans and Heaters, Household Voice, Data and Security, Outdoor Wiring, and Appliances and New Circuits

This book has everything a homeowner needs to know about wiring. Good book. Highly recommend.

What you do with conflict can change your life!
Helpful Votes: 38 out of 38 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-19
The goal of this book is to awaken the reader's perspective of conflict as an opportunity to glorify God by seeking understanding and forgiveness. Ken Sande provides excellent life stories to illustrate the real struggles we face in relationships. He then seeks the Biblical answer to resolving the breakdown in those relationships. Each part ends with an "As You Grow" section that helps to bring the study into your own life.
Part 1 reviews the common responses to conflict using the slippery slope of Peacmakers. He then shows that conflict can arise out of idols that we have established in our lives including an excellent examen of conscience that reveals that sin of idolatry. He then reviews the basic goals and pattern for resolving conflict.
Part 2 explores the four vital aspects of a peacemaking marriage. Confession removes our old hackneyed and easy ways we confess "I'm sorry" and replaces it with a thorough and God pleasing confession. Confrontation walks through the most avoided but needed part of relationships. The section on listening is excellent. Wise words shows how cautious we need to be as healers. Forgiveness is the heart of this book for me. It points out that forgiving is not a feeling it is a choice and requires us to make for promises - not to dwell on it, not to use it against them, not to talk with others, not to allow it to be a barrier. The Young Peacemakers says it - Good thought, hurt you not, gossip never, friends forever. In fact in forgiveness we replace those negative and forgiven hurts with positive ones. Negotiation occurs when substantive issues needs to be worked out in a setting that is safe and seeks compromise and satisfaction between spouses.
Part 3 begins to apply the principles laid out in the book. The first sections focuses on how to teach the principles to your children seeking teachable moments and leading by example. Chapter 9 and 10 gives life story examples of how conflict can be resolves with a child or an adult.
Part 4 gives some warning signs to look for to diagnose a troubled marriage. He then helps to understand the difficulties of both parties going to counseling and how to use negotiation to approach the obstacles to that end. I found this section very insightful and right on with me and the marriages I've seen. He then makes a plead to churches to be involved in a failing marriage, to use discipline when necessary. Finally the author closes with the preventative "insurance" policies to support a strong marriage.

Excellent resource for family conflict

Retitled But Same Stuff

Review Date: 2007-05-07
I was very disappointed in this book. The first half of the book was almost a verbatim reproduction of The Peacemaker. The second half of the book is a repeat of the initial repeat in the first half of the book but directed at dealing with children. There is no new information simply a change in wording that says the samething Ken Sande said in the Peacemaker and also in the first half of this book. The only hope for this book were the last two chapters that dealt with when your marriage gets in trouble and steps to protect your marriage. Both chapters were very vague and not very helpful. The author did say it was not his purpose to deal with marriage. However, my question is if that was not his intention why did he include a whole chapter on it? My recommendation is buy The Peacemaker and you do not need to waste your money on this book. It promises much and delivers very little.

this is a great cookbook for both experienced and novices cooks. whether you're making an occasional surprise dinner, or just need an idea for your Tuesday night dinner. i use it a lot for the ideas and baking/cooking times. also, love the updated kitchen/cooking basics section and all the great pics.

lots of wide margins allow me to record my own methods. its a great book, just what i wanted and has been a great update to by 1965 edition (even though i still refer to that one occasionally too).

We purchased this as an upgrade and replacement for an older version of the same book. The recipes are larger so there is no need to use triple batches for our large family and there's enough left over for lunch at work the next day. One of the two rivits came loose during shipping but Amazon was so good at replacing it that we got the new book before we could send back the old one.

I have ordered one for my daughters and my sisters for Christmas. In addition to all the delicious recipes, you are also donating to a cause that has or will touch most all our lives at one time or another. Buy it, you will not regret it.

I thought this book was worth reading. Yes, I've read the other reviews that said it was too simplified and for idiots but for someone who has never welded, or like me has not welded since high school, it covers the basics. It gives a good comparison of different technologies (Oxy, SMAW, MIG, TIG and plasma) the pros/cons of each. No, this book will not teach you how to weld like a pro but it is a good starting point if you want to learn about the various technologies or trying to decide what type of welder you want or need to get started. The Welder's Handbook (Finch) is also a good beginner's guide.

The World of Music has an expansive mission as it covers the world of music thru time. As such, it can be confusing at times. It feels like the Glossary was written by a different author and was not edited to sync with the text.

The Cd set is very helpful. But I wish that it was more expansive. It would be helpful to have the glossary tied to a CD of musical examples. There is a lot of material to cover in one semester and the students need all the help they can get to have all these different musical concepts gel and be retained.

If you are designing your own home or checking that your new home design is what you really want, then it is important to read the Not So Big House. You may not agree with everything that Susanka says and certainly there are areas where more detail would have been useful. However we assessed our new house after reading the book and made several fundamental changes. The companion book, Creating the Not So Big House, is a nice add-on if you buy the Collection, but unless your house is similar to the design examples covered in the contents, it doesn't have the impact of the original book.

Although a few people panned this book we found them somewhat useful.
Good picts to give us ideas for our future retirement house.
Although she talks about a green/passive solar house, the pictures detail don't quite bring in what you'd expect to make it a great renewable energy home.
we liked the books as guide on how to think of ways to work on a decent price and size to live in.
2000=2500 sqft is the max we want. didn't think about staggering the ceiling height great idea.
since we wanted an open floor plan we plan to use tips from here to design up our texas house.

This series is really targeted at people in a position to buy their own lot and build a custom home. But there is a lot more to take away from the books if you are not in that situation.

In the days of mcmansions everywhere, reading the books reminds us that we are really good a wasting space. Now with the cost of energy rising rapidly, a smaller house to heat and cool is a financially good idea.

This books remind us that there are things like built in cabinets, chests and book cases in places like bedrooms that can maximize the utilization of space. These things don't require building a new house, just thinking about a room differently then it is currently being used. These book help spark that creativity.

Grandiose over-development of some homes in our older neighborhood encouraged me to consider another solution.

Sarah Susanka has managed to give us an understanding of why so many modern homes do not "feel right". Forcing us to think about how we really live on a daily basis she looks at what we need to feel really comfortable and how best to achieve it. This is not a one solution fits all but the thinking persons guide to pesonal solutions. Her ideas are based on a lifetime of dealing with different people and their wants and needs even looking at some time in England as a child. Forcing us to change the commercial idea of "bang for bucks" into lifestyle comfort, she has made me look at what I really need in my home.
If only we could find mass produced houses that really suit the masses.
