Eckhart Tolle's A NEW EARTH is both a spiritual lift and a mental jog. We miss too much in this life when we are not aware of transcending the ego and living more fully. Thanks for making it available on the Internet.

Christians who oppose this book betray their lack of knowledge of New Testament teaching. First, St. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 6:2:
... behold, NOW is the acceptable time," behold, NOW is the day of salvation..."
And in Romans 12: 2, St. Paul writes, "... do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND." The work of the Holy Spirit is to constantly transform us by renewing -- making new our mind, leading us into deeper understanding of the truth -- because no human has perfect knowledge.
Living in the present moment, with the past forgiven and left behind, is taught all through the New Testament. This book is excellent for teaching us a simple way to silence the "mind of the flesh" and continually activate the "mind of the spirit." (Romans 8)
This book is a blessing for those who are serious about spiritual growth.

The highlight of this book starts on page 137. Tolle observes, "after two ducks get into a fight, which never lasts long, they will separate and float off in opposite directions." He continues the theme through page 138, telling us that ducks then flap there wings and get over it, suggesting that we all be more duck-like. Of course, then we would have to float, which would mean we'd all have to be made of wood, which means Tolle is really offering us hocus pocus psychology.
The problem is, obviously, we are not ducks. We have feelings and emotions. Tolle calls this our Pain-Body, as if feelings are a bad thing. If we could only recognize it and wish it away, we would all be better. He forgets that it is our emotion that separates us from ducks and makes us uniquely human. I can't imagine telling someone with a broken arm to just see the bone and wish it away. It is with great damage that books such as this make just such a suggestion with emotional and psychological pain. It creates a shame around mental and emotional suffering that only does harm for those with serious hurt.
We are not, and should not desire to be, ducks! Quack!

The Secret is intriguing and gives anyone with need of money, hope or health, a lot of hope. It is hard to believe, however, that one can get whatever one wants just by thinking about it or asking for it.

The main thing is that a group of people devised a well packaged scheme with a well known "secret" to make people believe they will get rich to get rich, themselves. The question is whether one should be a party to this kind of activity, and every buyer is. The claims at their site are utterly outrageous - Plato and Beethoven got where they were after finding the "Secret" - and should be really shut down by an outpouring of qualifiers. They should not be rewarded but rather shamed.
Not especially new information but certainly interesting...

While this information wasn't especially new, it was a great reminder. I run decluttering and time management workshops for a living for Inspired Honey (inspiredhoney.com) and so I like to have a break once in a while give my mind a tune-up (like my car). While this information is certainly not new. See the book You Can Heal Your Life written decades before or even lots of ideas from proverbs in The Bible), it is still interesting information. If it gets people analysing their thoughts more and being more in control of their choices - I'm all for it!
There's only one secret to this book . . .

I saw this book last night and picked it up. I had seen it in stores on the best seller racks, and it had a catchy cover. At first I thought it was some kind of story until I opened it up. After I read the first page I realized it wasn't, but being bored I read on. The first chapter is quite interesting. But as I kept reading the book, I honestly felt like I was reading the same page over and over and over again. This has to be the most redundant book I have ever read. The only thing I have gotten from this book, is to sell the idea that hard work and dedication never got anyone anywhere. Telling people that their bad spending and eating habbits aren't cause for them being broke or overweight. I simply finished the book because it was quite funny. This book takes the idea of staying positive with everything in your life, having hope and a motivation to reach your goals, and makes a total mockery of great scientist and inventors. Everything great that has been done was created by trial and error, not because some mysterious "universal mind" or genie wanted them to have it. If you purchased this book, the only real secret is that you have wasted twenty-five dollars.

Lessons for Living

Eckhart Tolle's acclaimed book "The Power of Now" has many powerful lessons for living. It's a transformational tool to help us shift our consciousness and a signpost for awakening.
The life lessons that were the most helpful to me included:
The answer to the human dilemma cannot be found through the intellect but through consciousness (awareness) and our response to what happens.
Consciousness is the only lasting and meaningful aspect of who we are. It transcends our bodies, minds, emotions, possessions and events. Yet most of our energy and attention goes into doing, work, appointments, to-do lists, mind-clutter, possessions and commitments. The opposite of doing is being: stillness, spaciousness, awareness, silence and spontaneity. Doing is never enough if we neglect Being.
Recognizing that our ego, the unawakened self, is an imposter pretending to be us.
Making ourselves right or wrong is one to the principle mind egoic patterns. Nothing will satisfy us as long as the ego remains in place.
The power of allowing lies in noninterference, non-doing, in Presence, in the space between the clutter of thought and emotion. Wisdom, joy, love, creativity and aliveness are in the gap between the perception and the interpretation.
Being present is infinitely more powerful than anything we could say or do.
Surrender to pain it's not who we are. Pain is a doorway out of our ego prison. It's not the pain but the identification with the pain that forces us to relive the past again and again and keeps us in a state of unconsciousness.
To stop our egoistic body identification we should shift our attention from our external thought to the feeling of aliveness inside. The intensely alive energy field is our life energy, the bridge between the form and the formless.
What matters in not what we say and believe but how we act and react.
Whatever we think the world is withholding from us, we are withholding from the world. Just act as if we had it, and it will come. When we start giving we will receive.
The source of abundance is inside us. When we acknowledge the abundance around us it awakens to dormant abundance within.
Whatever we perceive, experience, do, think or feel is content. Content is what absorbs most people. Content is not essence. Essence is the formless inner space of consciousness. The universe is an indivisible whole in which all things are interconnected. The atoms that make up your body were once forged inside stars.
When we don't mind what happens we are aligned with what is. When we align with the present moment our actions become empowered by the intelligence of Life itself.
The ego can never be aligned with the present moment. The ego sees the present as a means to an end, an obstacle or an enemy. We become Present when we see our dysfunction and make friends with the Now. Presence is a state of inner spaciousness.
Life is always now. There is only this moment. The elimination of time from our consciousness is the elimination of ego.
When we say yes to the Now, the Now becomes a doorway into the formless and the separation between the world and God dissolves.
The joy of Being, which is our true happiness, cannot come to us through any form, possession, achievement, person, or event. It emanates from the formless dimension within us, from consciousness itself and thus is one with who we are. If we are content with being nobody in particular we align ourselves with the power of the universe.
Through us the universe is becoming aware of itself.
We are so consumed by time that we have forgotten eternity, which is our destiny. Eternity is the living reality of who we are.
Non-resistance, non-judgment and non-attachment give true freedom. Through acceptance, we become spacious inside.
Being aware of breathing for a year is more powerfully transformative than attending any courses. The more we are aware of the breath, the more its natural depth will reestablish itself. Conscious breathing stops the mind. Three conscious breaths stops compulsions. Discover inner space by creating gaps in our thinking. Awareness is Presence, consciousness without thought, and connection with universal intelligence. The mind of God is consciousness.
A belief in God is a poor substitute for the living reality of God manifesting every moment in our lives.
Give others full attention. The space of awareness is more important than what we are talking about.
Our entire life journey ultimately consists of the step we are taking at this moment.
Live with uncertainty, even enjoy it. There is ultimately no such thing as "my" life, since "my" and "life" are one.
All of the ancient religions point to two fundamental truths. The first is that humankind's "normal" state of mind is dysfunctional. Hinduism calls it maya the veil of delusion, Buddhism refers to it as dukka or suffering, Christianity calls it "original sin" meaning "to miss the point" to live unskillfully or blindly.
Although humankind is intelligent and our achievements are impressive in science, medicine, technology, architecture and the arts our intelligence is also tainted with insanity.
The second truth in all religions is that a radical transformation of human consciousness is possible. The Hindus called the transformation Enlightenment, the Buddhists Liberation, and the Christians Salvation.
Humanity's greatest achievement is not science and technology but the recognition of our individual and collective madness. The moment we recognize that "normal" human existence is a collective nightmare we begin a process of healing and transcendence.
Many religious teachings have become distorted, divisive and part of a collective insanity. Yet in spite of all the insanity in the name of religion, the Truth to which they all point still shines through. There have been individuals throughout history who experienced a shift in consciousness and realized within themselves the Truth to which all religions point. They discovered that being "spiritual" has nothing to do with what we believe and everything to do with our state of consciousness.
Our purpose is to awaken from the ego-created earth-drama. This is the new earth (the tiltle of his next book).

People will read into Tolle's gibberish whatever they want to hear. They will fool themselves into believing that his "teaching" is something new and critical. Yet, it's nothing more than the oldest lie in the Book.
You can be god. You can control your reality. You.... You.... YOU!
Sorry, but that it isn't true.

I have been a student of the Tao for several years and have a general understanding of Eastern thought, but it seems that Mr. Tolle just skipped any actual study and went straight for the book.
Let me put it this way, anybody who says they have achieved enlightenment has not, and anybody who is enlightened would not publish a self help book.

Reading this book now, after Randy has died, adds sadness to the book he meant to be only inspirational and only glorious. I love that Randy Pausch wrote this for himself (yes, of course it is for himself, it is how he coped with this death sentence, and the horrendous loss and grief) and his children. I only read it because it was a book club choice; prior to now I've been completely turned off by the zealous Oprah-type hype and MANDATES to LOVE this book. If Randy were so heavy handed ("You must read this! It will change your life! It's about living, not dying! And I'm dying, you know!") about it he wouldn't have sold a single copy. Back off, zealots, for pete's sake, and allow people to experience this book quietly for themselves, wouldja?

I listened to the audio version of this book. It was good to hear Randy Pausch tell his story .. in his own voice. I will forever deal with situations in life remembering the Tigger vs the Eyore attitude. I think it safe to say that I will always lean toward bouncing with Tigger. Once you have read or listened to this lecture, how can you not embrace your inner Tigger? or go after you dreams?
Here is an excellent example of one man making a huge change in the world. A man like that... he will be missed.
The CD unabridged version is only 4 CD's..... I really recommend that you get this... you will be happy that you did and you'll pass it on to a friend. I'm sending mine to my brother who is a teacher. I'm hoping he'll share his with his students. This is one of of those Pass It On books.

Randy Pausch's book, The Last Lecture, is every bit as moving and insightful as his live lecture on which it is based, which itself became a YouTube and media sensation. He has now sadly passed away, but the video and this book of his last lecture will live on. The book goes beyond academia, and provides thoughts on life that are greatly beneficial to all. An example of a great book by a great professor (and a great guy) that both well deserve all the accolades they have received.
The advice isn't particularly unique, and in many ways, that's this book's strength.

When I picked up this book, I expected it to be filled with advice and insights that I'd never heard before. Thinking back, that wasn't a very reasonable expectation. If the advice was going to be any good, it had probably been dispensed many times long before Randy Pausch got to it. Instead, this book was filled with advice and insights that I'd heard many times before from many different sources, but that was far from being a drawback.
Pausch has distilled out some of the simplest and most effective thoughts on how to get more out of life and how to put more into it. Unsurprisingly, the two often go together. Beyond that, Pausch has eloquently restated some insights that have faded a little bit from today's culture. Perhaps this book and Pausch's lecture will play some role in bringing them back into favor.
More than anything, Pausch's tragic situation puts him in a unique situation to present these pieces of advice and have people listen. It's great that Randy and his wife shared some of his remaining time and energy with the rest of us so that we could hear these insights from a source that's hard to ignore and nearly impossible to feel resentment towards. I think we've all failed to take good advice by dismissing the source for one self-serving reason or another.
Highly recommended just as a reminder of things you probably already know, but would probably benefit from hearing again. A great gift for a graduating student or any child you care about.

I absolutely love this program. I bought this book and have completed the first 7 days, which is the only 'diet' part of the program. You have to follow the first week instructions very rigidly, by purposely counting like she explains in the book, but the best part is after you complete this week, you never, ever have to repeat it. I love that part.
I retired from the military over 10 years ago, and in that time, I have gained 60 lbs. I have tried everything, absolutely everything, to try and reduce my weight to no avail. Actually, the more I tried to lose, the more I gained, hence the 60 lbs creeped up and won't go away.
I am only in Week 2, in the first cycle, I have lost 10 lbs. Although I know this loss will flucuate some due to adding back in the carbs; I am psyched b/c I have never lost that much on anything I have tried. I feel great!
Wendy gives you a lifestyle eating plan, and she doesn't 'dump' you once the weight is gone. It's an 8-week program broken into cycles, and after the program ends, you can either repeat (if you have more weight to lose), or stay on the maintenance plan and live your life healthy.
The food is sooo easy. No matter what lifestyle you live, you can find food anywhere to satisfy your body without compromising.
I strongly recommend that you purchase this book, read it through and start the program, and get your life back once and for all.
While in the military, I was a certified trainer and in that time, I have never had a weight problem. Once I retired, the weight came with a vengenance! Since I enjoyed being fit for 20 years; this weight gain has totally messed up my life. I just started this program, but I am certain that this program is the key and I know that these lbs will be history very soon.
Thank you Wendy Chant for this book, I am very, very grateful!

Crack the Fat Loss Code is a great book, easy to read and very educational. I highly recommend the program Forever Fit that they teach you about. This program is sensible, something anyone can live with even diabetics and above all it works. I am now on my forth week of the program and feel great have dropped 13 lbs. Good health is the most important thing and in the process you will regain your energy and get rid of extra fat once and for all. I am so excited about this plan, give it a try, you have nothing to loose except extra weight and poor health. Linda Milroy

Absolutely perfect. I am down 12 pounds in week four and can have pizza and subs and pasta after week three, the perfect diet. Any plan that I can have my favorite foods twice a week and still lose weight is awesome. The only negative thing is my shorts are literally falling off me from inches lost.

This has been an amazing Journey for me. I start week 3 of the 8 week program tomorrow and so far I have lost 9 pounds (most within the first) As others have said the first week is tough but it gets easier after that. I have felt a lot better eating this way and not eating all the processed foods I used to eat before finding this WOE (Way of eating) Its just an all around good plan to try. I recommend it to anyone looking to lose weight and feel better about themselves.

This book spells out in incredible detail the processes of the mind and how it effects the results of our current life as we know it. I must commend them on the thorough explanation, though felt it could be summarised in a chapter. If it was purely about the mind then so be it, however I did struggle to get through this part, a little brainy so to speak. From there the wisdom John and Murray inpart on the virtues of setting up a successful business, along with amazing scenarios to demonstrate how to do it, is priceless. Clearly one of the most powerful business building books I have ever read. Jason McDonald www.hwwaustralia.com.au

First of all this is a very basic book. I have big issues with page 30 right from the get go. He says the word is powerful and is a force....I beg to differ. Things are just symbols of symbols, thus twice removed from reality, and the word IS the symbol! It's the thoughts we think that give us power and give us light to see what we REALLY are, not the word. He states a familar bible phrase, "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God,and the word is God." No.... I'm sorry, God doesn't DO words or any other "idols" He only does creation... in the form of loving, expansive thoughts. Yes we, (as children of God), are thoughts in the mind of God, and have NEVER left. Ideas leave NOT their source. He also gives a definition of sin, which I don't beleive in, and therefore can't possilbly be correct! The truth MUST be the same for eveyone! So while this book may have some good things to say, I so disagree with most of it's main premises, that it will serve no good purpose to reccommend it or reread it.
I highly recommend it

This beautiful intense book of wisdom is the step-by-step process of uncovering the Authentic Self for anyone. I have begun working with the Companion Book that is sold seperately, and I cannot imagine being the same again. I have created 4 new agreements to honor the Real Me, as Don Miguel suggests. I feel lighter, happier, and so much less afraid. You will not regret the purchase of this book, or his other books.

I have just read 'The Power of Now', and had actually read 'Stillness Speaks' before that. I would recommend buying 'The Power of Now' first if mindfulness is fairly new to you. The Power of Now provides more of a foundation for the mind, before going beyond mind and into presence. 'Stillness Speaks', on the other hand, is condensed snippets that are like immediate portals into stillness and sanity for those who have some familiarity with mindfulness/meditation already, as I did. That said, I found 'Stillness Speaks' an immediate and refreshing facilitator of stillness/presence/being for me....and it continues to be this each time I pick it up. A homecoming to 'sanity'. It cuts through mental noisiness, reminds me of my depths and that life is here and now.
In 'Power of Now' Tolle suggests we listen with more than the mind, almost like listening with the body when we read. I instantly recognised in this description my primary mode of reading spiritual texts, and you may too; and I find Tolle's writing very nourishing when read in this subtle way. If my mind is too dominant and I'm in resistance to the moment, however, his writing appears to lack depth or interest, and the way appears barred to me! This suggests to me that his writing does indeed come from a place of being, and not from an egoic, mental level. While I'll read others for more mind-food, I'll continue to dip into Tolle for soul-food and instant peace.

At first glance "Stillness Speaks" may seem like less of a "real book" than "The Power of Now" or "A New Earth". It is smaller in size, shorter and does not have the same kind of continuity in the sense of going on an inward journey. Yet that is exactly what appeals to me about it. This is the kind of book I can place on my nightstand, open to any page, read a few ideas to ponder and put away for the night (or day).
For someone who is struggling to integrate the concepts in Tolle's other books, this one may not have much appeal. For for those who have done the inner work, who have been on the journey for a while, this book offers succulent reminders of ways to continually bring ourselves back to appreciating every moment and manifestation of life. For example, after writing the last sentence I randomly opened the book to page 72 and read, "Sometimes surrender means giving up trying to understand and becoming comfortable with not knowing." This is such a simple idea, profound and yet a tremendous challenge for most seekers.
This is not a book to read from cover to cover. It is a book to ponder a bit at a time. The ideas presented are so rich with meaning that trying to absorb it by simply reading would render the mind dull and bloated. It is a meditation tool, a garden of ideas, any one of which has the potential to expand consciousness.

Ten years ago I was introduced to Abraham and their teachings in great detail. So, I went into reading this book with a lot of familiarity with the teachings that it describes. Still, I wanted something that would give me a quick refresher and would give me tools to get myself on a more positive train of thought. This book does that. You literally can read it in one day...though I think I took two. Then I sat down and did the written exercises and I felt a whole lot better...like a new person. Unfortunately, the challenge I am dealing with is one that takes time to resolve. I wish the book offered more tools for re-energizing the work that I did initially. I do keep reading my Desire Statement over and over. But just doing that doesn't have the same magic as when you first work through the exercises. Still and all, I think this is a terrific book! Really easy to read and to the point.

It's funny how easy it is to overlook the basics, even if you've studied the Law of Attraction and related principles of manifestation for years. This Law of Attraction book reminded me to review those fundamentals to make sure I've mastered tje,.
And Michael J. Losier's book is above all practical, which is my kind of book. He offers a minimum of background and theory.
To be nitpicky, I think there's not quite enough there. He references the early 20th century Law of Attraction works, but he curiously does not mention that the concepts of vibration are thousands of years old, dating back to ancient Egypt and Greece.
But what's great about the book is the step by step process he offers to make the Law of Attraction really work. For example, his suggestions for altering words and affirmations so that they ring true and create positive feelings is very insightful.
The book also includes worksheets to help sort out desires and to allow them to manifest. I'm still working through the "allowing statement," which are supposed to eliminate doubt. And I find that section a bit vague.
What I like most about Losier is that he's been working with the Law of Attraction for many many years -- long before "The Secret" hit the shelves behind its huge marketing engine (clue: Oprah).
Micheal's the real deal and that comes across in his writing. I'm always wary of the slick and polished works on subjects like these that really aim to sell much more expensive backend products. This book doesn't do that. It's a real "how to" book and I appreciate that.

Hey, who would have given the Rolling Stones credit for singing about the Law of Attraction!
I am a big believer that Spiritual books have to have practical application or they are worthless. The Law of Attraction has been around in different forms longer than the author acknowledges in his "Brief History of the Law of Attraction", but in any form it is good to know.
The good news is the author makes it easy to understand and simple to apply to everyday life. He makes it clear that you need to change your perspective to change your vibration. The bad news is that if you think you're going to be able to win the lottery or get every materialistic item on your "desire" list, you are sorely mistaken.
To find out why it won't work in those situations, you need to dig deeper, because there is more to this than what's in the book. For those that want to move forward in their Spiritual advancement, that is the next step
