While this is not exactly what I was expecting, I am pleased with the workbook. The exercises are very clear and concise and easy to do. The treasure map exercise is also fun! This book is a much easier to use version of The Secret (yes, Gawain's book came first, I know, but The Secret has been the one most talked about in the past year or two). I like this one better.

Starts as very good wisdom and then turns into alot of dribble. The book has parts of outstanding clarity and consciousness. The book has some parts which will introduce new ways of thinking to you. But also, the book has a lot of nonsense. Sometimes the author is drawing unfounded unreasonable conclusions.
Chapters are broken down into a simplifier format to the pages easy for reading. Parts I and III of the book should be mandatory reading for anybody. Parts II and IV of the book lose all sense of cohesion and rationality. Parts V and VI of the book become long winded, redundant baloney.
I think that the author probably started with some ideas of another older, wiser person which were really good. Then he tried to take their wisdom a step further with his own ideas but the reasoning fell apart.
The philosophy is founded predominantly on this idea of passive resistance or non reaction leading to a life of greater satifaction. It's a philosophy of just accepting whatever life throws at you. It's rididculous. And, the book definately has a very egotistic, "i know better than everyone else" type tone.
You have to sort out the pieces of golden wisdom from the ramble of nonsense but definately worth reading once.

I've already read this book 4 times. I recommend this to almost everyone. To gain a grasp of the original ancient wisdom and achieve a sense of spirituality this is a must read.
I recommend this as a first read for those interested in Kabbalah. Most of Yehuda Berg's books are easy to understand and very empowering.

I thought "The Power of The Kabbalah" was an easy interesting read. I would recommend it but prefer a more historical view with less interpretation. Although, it is a good introduction for those who are curious. One can take what they want from the book and perhaps understand it is a bit "Americanized". I am suspicious by nature, which is why I did not give it the full 5 stars. Cynicism and suspicion conflict will the Kabbalah ways, so perhaps I should keep reading.

This small hardback book falls under the category of "calendar book" and is also what I term a "bathroom book."
You don't sit down and read this like a novel - what you get are tiny, thoughtful blurbs, one for each date of they year, about bringing yoga into all areas of your life.
Sometimes the book is a bit too simple with nuggets like: You need a red pair of shoes! Drive the speed limit! Or, chocolate is sacred and you deserve to eat some!
And there are a lot of family-oriented homilies such as reminders to model behavior for your grandchildren. This is a wasted day if you don't have children, much less grandkids! But in the days where something does not apply to me I try to mentally replace the words, as in, "model behavior for your nieces," or just flip around to find a blurb that speaks to me instead of the one slotted for that particular date.
The VAST majority of the daily aphorisms (teachings) are quite thoughtful, providing good spiritual reminders towards bringing your yoga practice into your daily existence. Sometimes I resist these little "daily dose" type books as simplistic and honey, but this one is worthwhile.
For example, September 23 reminds us the nature of the mind is to be agitated. The author gently reminds us in an aphorism about meditation that this is to be expected, and that's it's better to *be* with your mental agitation than to try to control or eliminate it. June 29th just recently reminded me to love people in spite of themselves, in spite of myself (a very useful daily mantra when seeking peace in all kinds of frustrating interactions).
One can use this book also as an adjunct to writing in a personal yoga journal. If I wasn't lazy about journaling, I think I'd find that pretty useful. :)
More uses: this would be a very nice gift book for anyone exploring yoga. It would make a good by the bedside kind of book, for people to meditate on these ideas upon arising or before sleep. Or take the book along on any mass transit commutes, to read and think when traveling.
As for myself, I keep it in the bathroom, so I may mull over my relationship with the teachings as I sit on the throne. :)

I loved this book! The illustrations were fantastic and the writing was clear and concise. It was like listening to an old friend describe how to make beads. Even though they are remarkably intricate, I left the book feeling that I could make them given the tools.
Thank you, Jeri, for a wonderful educational experience. I hope to be able to take a class with you in the near future!

This is a great book for both technical instructions on how to accomplish a variety of techniques and dozens of beautiful pictures displaying how other skilled artists bring variations to the theme. The book is based around a variety of techniques that are useful for intermediate and advance lampwork bead artists to expand their repetoir. I have not seen any other book that collects as many diverse techniques in one place. The instructions are easy to follow and the explanation of the supplies and tools needed for each bead is straight-forward. Even if you don't want to make any particular bead, the numerous examples of other artists' creations will surely give any reader a creative burst.

Glass Bead Workshop: Building Skills, Exploring Techniques, Finding Inspiration
This book was a great disappointment to me. The major failure is that it shows techniques that use special tools, but provides no list of sources. I have not been able to find a source for the Specialty Bead Press tools, so the whole sections on using those tools are worthless. Also, there are gaps in the instructions for the different techniques and a novice would not know how to make the beads from the pictures and instructions in the book. It has pretty good pictures, but not enough depth of detail. If this book is ever revised it could benefit from a list of sources for the different tools and special supplies that are demonstrated in the book.

Glass Bead Workshop by Jeri Warhaftig
Just when you thought you had aquired all the tools and goodies you would ever need again in your lampwork adventures (yeah... right... LOL) Jeri Warhaftig has authored a new lampworking book that is guaranteed to challenge you to see the world of lampwork in a new light.
This full color book is 144 pages packed with information! It dives headfirst into advanced techniques and concepts, just giving the faintest nod to basic info. Definitely a text designed with the more seasoned lampworker in mind, and it doesn't disappoint.
Advanced techniques are taught using step-by-step photos, thorough explanation, and very creative projects. Each project touches on a variety of materials, tools, and techniques which include: dichroic glass, copper and silver inclusions, enamels, cubic zirconia use, multi-stage bead assembly, fuming, etching, pressing, coldworking, hollow mandrels, disk forming, flower sculpting, vessels, and much more. The tips and appendices of the book condense a lot of great experience into an easy to access and utilize format.
Artist galleries that are included at the end of each chapter, full of inspiring examples of mixing the skills you learn with imagination and creating new, exciting pieces.
If you are looking for some fresh, new ideas and skills to spark your imagination and challenge you, this is the book for you. Tons of experience for the lampworker at the bargin price of $24.95!

This is a beautifully written book. I have read alot of spiritual books. This one I couldn't put down, read it in one sitting. The Prayers at the end of the chapters are wonderful and the Circle of Fire Prayer is life changing. Some books I read and then recycled, but this one is a keeper. Thank you Don Miguel Ruiz for another great book!! Love and Blessings to all!

With reverence, at the very least! I came to this book after the author's 4 Agreements and found the prayers and guided meditations here very effective as I learned meditation and began to deepen my spiritual practice. It doesn't matter which denomination or religion you claim to belong to, because these truthful, poetic insights and encouragements transcend labels and unnatural boundaries. It is as if Ruiz discovered a coven of saintly horses who taught him these golden words. Read and recite these prayers and meditations like that, like you're reading and reciting poetry, and you will feel it, yes. You will feel transformed as your skin tingles, as all of your senses awaken to the wonderful world we share!

If you're new to Dilbert, he's a small guy who works in a highly bureaucratic white collar office. The comics satirize office politics beautifully. The humor is similar to the TV series The Office, but Dilbert was the original.
I give the Dilbert day-to-day calendar to my father every year for Christmas. He works in senior management and very much enjoys having a new Dilbert strip to read everyday and to share with his staff. When he goes away, he actually takes the pages that he is going to miss with him so that he doesn't miss reading any. He often saves hilarious and appropriate cartoons to give to my husband (who works in IT) or to me (I work in Marketing). If you work in an office environment - or have escaped from one! - this is a wonderful calendar.
While the day-to-day calendar has been around for a few years now, I was pleasantly surprised to see one change in this year's format: all the cartoon strips are now in color! Otherwise the layout and format is as per previous years. The inside pages are shrinkwrapped so they are well protected in transit to you.
The other thing I appreciate about the Dilbert calendars is that there is enough material to keep them fresh. Before Dilbert, I used to give my father a Farside day-to-day calendar, but after 3-4 years he noticed that some cartoons were repeating from previous years. So far this has not occurred with the Dilbert calendar. (The cartoons are also different from the ones that appear on the daily Dilbert on Dilbert.com) I highly recommend it.

I recommend this VERY highly. The book contains excellent definitions, great stories and is well-written and enjoyable to read (nice for nonfiction!). I enjoyed it so much as I, my family and church members have referred to it for interpretations and clarity. It's also apparent that the Golls have spent years living this out so there is real substance to what they write. Enjoy it yourself!

Wow, wow wow this was such a blessing, now and then when I don't understand certain things in my dream I will go to the glossary list sort of like a dictionary at the back of the book for dreams. Wow the whole book has being highlighted and praise the Lord is was great and I enjoyed it. The Goll family were right on point and I thank God for the gifts He has given Goll in dream area. Praise the Lord.

First let me say this is a great book I would recomend it to anyone. I read some of the 1 star reviews and was amazed how misinformed these nay sayers were. One person said that it taught that life is for us to fulfill our own perpose instead of living for God. What the book teachs is that serving God is our purpose. Another person said Rick Warren wrote this book just to make money, I guess he doesn't know Rick warren gives away 90% of his income and lives off 10%. He accepts no sallery at all from his church, that doesn't sound much like a person who is motivated by money only to me. The people who have writen these negitive reviews obviously don't get what they call a simple book or have not read it at all. The gospel is not complicated God made it delibritly simple. The purpose driven life is a book that will change your life if you read it with humility and are willing to live a life that is purposely serving God.

This is a tremendous book for everyone including the ones whose faith is lost or non-existent. It gives the reader a more confident starting point to turn their life around and incorporate values that God has laid before us. Rick Warren's undeniable faith is an illuminating source of God's will that inspires oneself to take that leap of faith and place your salvation in the Hands of God.

I had heard of this book many times but never bought or read it. I was especially impressed a few years ago when someone (in Atlanta, I think) used material from it to help her deal effectively with someone who broke into her house. The person had already shot someone the same day. She was struggling with many issues before the intruder came. Together they talked about content of the book in a way that made a difference.
Finally, I was moved to get the book after the faith forum between McCain and Obama at Saddleback Church in August 2008. I was so impressed with the way he dealt with both candidates. I wanted to read more about what Warren says and learn more about how he says it.
I highly recommend the book.

My copy, from Christmas 2004, says "over 15 million copies sold". I see cover copy on books in stores now showing 20 or 30 million sold.
So, this is not a new or little-known book, and obviously, many people have read it and find it very good, and indeed it is. Warren gives five Biblical purposes for life, consistently using scripture (in many different translations where they help convey meaning). And while the book does occasionally reference other "PDL" products like the journal, it doesn't appear to be a sales tool for these other products.
In fact, the The Purpose-Driven Life Journal in conjunction with a good study translation (New American Standard, New Internation, or King James) is a great way to study and make notes.

Wow-really good book!! On a side note, would have prefered the Bible references at the point of reference ( eg Psalm 23:1 and not '2' so as to prevent the need to continually turn to the back of the book. I am at day 12 and I am really impressed at how applicable this book is to my life. Again, I wonderful read

This is a book of lovely quotations that have been specifically joined with the perfect Olivia scenes. I just bought 8 copies of this for adult friends of mine who are in the business of thinking big-they're teachers extraordinaire. I love the main character Olivia and salute the author for his talent.
Good, but not a children's book.

Most of the Olivia books are childrens books. This one however is not. This book reminds me of "Oh, The Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuess. This would make an excellent graduation gift.

I bought this book thinking it was an actual story book, but it's really just a book of quotes, that I guess should inspire, but a child couldn't understand their meaning at all.

My daughter has followed all of the Olivia books, so I purchased this a preschool "graduation gift." It is NOT a story however, so you must know that before purchasing; it is a book of inspiring quotes enahanced by Olivia illustrations. The message is similar to Dr. Seuss's "Oh, The Places You Will Go!" It was perfect for my daughter--something she can keep on her shelf until she graduates again--from high school, long after she has stopped reading the Olivia storybooks.

When my children were young, I looked in vain for children's books that contained inspirational aphorisms. I wanted to find such books because brief quotes by important historical figures had always played a big role in my life.
I was thrilled to find that Ian Falconer had taken some of his prior drawings of Olivia and selected appropriate inspirational quotes around the theme of "Dream Big." Naturally, there's irony here . . . beginning with the fact that the book is in a very small format, like that of gift books.
Although the book's page size is small, there are thirty quotes and matching images. I thought that the illustrations and quotes were well matched . . . often providing adult humor as well as kiddy laughs. In fact, you'll probably find yourself having an opportunity to explain a few of these quote and illustration combinations (a great chance for bonding with a child) such as "You don't get harmony when everybody sings the same note" with a Olivia singing by herself and "Dreams say what they mean, but they don't say it in daytime language" with Olivia dreaming of singing on stage in a red gown. Some of the illustrations also make for good fun, being puns on the quote.
Please realize that there is no story to connect the quotes . . . this book is inspirational rather than story-telling.

This was such a fresh break from ali and lisa b.- though I love them both! Just a neat- fresh way of looking at things - like ali- but more tounge in cheek- and the layouts are really inspiring- they seem simple at first- but then you note the attention to stamping and fonts and the pictures that journal themselves. Its one book I read over and over- especially when I am in a creative rut!

I have just started this wonderful hobby of scrapbooking, and this book has opened my eyes to all the possibilities out there. The typical things that one would think to scrap (weddings, birthdays, holidays and so forth) can limit our options. This book shows how real life is made up of everyday moments more than yearly events, and encourages you to record them: how your children are growing, things people say, things that you like (and dislike!), quirks and habits that you have... The artwork is wonderful. I've gotten a lot of ideas from Nic's layouts. I absolutely recommend this book if you need a boost of inspiration, if you've ran out of ideas, or just if you (like me) love to flip through books and delight your eyes with beautiful layouts.

I own many scrapbooking-related books and this is one of my very favorites. Nic's quirky sense of humor and unique scrapbooking style drew me in, but more important still is the message that she's sending - don't let everyday life pass by undocumented. Personally, I think that will tell future generations much more about me and the times that I lived in then just documenting holidays and vacations every could. I highly recommend this book!

This book is a good read. Nic Howard writes as if you are sitting and having a great talk with a good friend.
The ideas are good, but nothing exciting and original. There's nothing like the Queen of scrapbooking your everyday life, Ali Edwards, so anyone else seems to pale a bit.
