The wife and I bought book one and two, and have found them to be a wonderful read at the end of most every day. We also sent it as a gift to a relative in prison, and he has really enjoyed them as well. Artfully bound, it is the kind of informative study material you can read and discuss over and over. Hank's best work I think.

The Bible Answer Book by Hank Hanegraaff (also known as The Bible Answer Man) is solid in it's approach because it gives a lot of different answers to commonly asked questions in multiple areas. My main issue with the book (as one reviewer already mentioned) is that it falls short on substance in spots, and that left me a little disappointed more than once.
The Good: This book is great in that it tackles a lot of common questions such as: What must I do to be saved? Can a Christian lose their salvation? Did demons have sexual relations with women in Genesis 6:4? Plus what I enjoyed the most was his small section on Muslims. Hanegraaff States,
" While muslims readily affirm the sinlessness of Christ, they adamantly deny His sacrifice upon the cross and subsequent resurrection. In doing so, they deny the singular historic fact which demonstrates that Jesus does not stand in a long line of peers from Abraham to Muhammad, but is God in the flesh."
He goes on to add further insights into Muslim beliefs when Hanegraaff states, "In recent years, the myth that Judas was crucified in place of Jesus has been popularized in Muslim circles by a late midevil invention titled The Gospel Of Barnabas." Hanegraaff has added much to my understanding of Muslim beliefs.
The Bad: To say that I don't agree with all his theology goes without saying. However, I really felt on more than one subject he gave you a taste of truth just to not follow throught on the concept. I know he was probably trying to keep this book short and to the point. However, I feel he did his readers a diservice by not following through on the concept on more than one occasion. Still this is a solid book, and one I will use as a reference.

I'm severely torn about the "good" of these books, as their printing has encouraged many people to go back to the land and live in a more ecologically sensible manner. It's just that the _wording_ of its message puts up red flags for me...
One should always be leery of any philosophical or religious statement which says..."everything on Earth, from grass and trees to smallest insects and biggest animals was created to serve for benefit of man."
Notice it's only "Man" that seems to benefit.
Not only do such statements ignore millions of years of evolution when humankind wasn't even a thought on the Earth, it's just such a typically anthropocentric, arrogant view towards the rest of life on our planet.
Please keep this in mind if you read these books.

Something seems to have been lost in translating this story and I seem to have lost something reading it(my time and money).
Don't waste your time or money. This was one of the worst books that I have read in years and I've read hundreds.
There's no morals to it either, unless screwing hot chicks behind your wife's back is O.K.?
I think I might google around the net, collect some information from other pagan and hippy sites, throw in a few Bible quotes, write a story that nobody can prove about my spiritual journey through the Outback, while taking pictues of some real props and hire a playboy model to appear on the covers of my novels as my mystical girlfriend.
What do you think? Anything for a buck I hear you saying,Vladimir???

I received the book a few days ago and am half-way through it. First, let me say it's a "nice little story," but seems way too far-fetched for any credibility. The "hero," a Russian "entrepreneur" happens upon a beautiful young woman standing on the riverbank, that's Anastasia, who takes him back into the woods for three days. Now, she doesn't have a house or even hut, just a little cave in a grove of trees and flowers, in which to live (we're talking Siberia here!)
She wears the sheerest of clothing and when he tries to make a pass at her, she pushes him away using her psychic powers. Yet, when he confides in her that he wishes he had a son, she sleeps with him, giving him the "deepest sexual experience in his life," later telling him that since he's now had the best experience any man can know, he'll never again enjoy sex in a "lesser" way. He gets really angry at her for taking away one of his greatest pleasures, sex, which he seems to have frequently (and not with his wife). So, at this point, I guess she's pregnant with his son.
Well, from here, it's just chapter after chapter of Anastasia telling him how to eat, sleep, grow plants, becoming attuned to the stars, the soil, etc. It's all very lovely and very ecological. Heck, we're talking "Clan of the Cave Bear" meets "Star Wars," with a little bit of the Old Testament thrown in for good measure. Naturally, being a Russian book, most of the "scientific" references to back up Anastasia's claims are from obscure (from a Western perspective) Soviet era scientists.
OK, but before you go and buy all eight of the books in this series, first give this one a try, and see what you think. It's worth it if only as a meditation on living in harmony with creation and how much less we could all get by on. While not a Christian book, it could make for a good Lenten read.
Peace!

This is the most life-changing series I have ever read, by a long shot. And browsing spiritual literature is my main hobby and pastime. Only one other book I've read even comes close, and that is the one that got me started on the spiritual path in the first place.
I am a private soul, consequently I have never written a review before and probubly never will again, but my feelings for this series are forcing me out of the musty corners to say:
If you are interested in life, in why our society is poisoning and brainwashing it's children, in why you have that maddening, unnameable itch in your brain that Morpheus talks about in The Matrix; if you want to be inspired and uplifted and shown a viable, practical path out of this mess we've created for ourselves as a society, and as individuals, then you will probably like this book.
The official website for the English translations [...], which has a lot more information on what the books are about, and many more embarrassingly gushy reviews. I seriously can't help it people. I know it sounds goofy but... How else do I describe a book that completely changes your life for the better? Wouldn't YOU gush in your description of it?
As for the people who sniff and sneer and poo-poo it as fake: I could say many angry words at them, for similar reasons to why I would yell at someone who had just insulted my mother, but it's not worth my energy, and they are entitled to there opinions. Read the books for yourself, and come to your own damn conclusions, don't accept your opinions second-hand.
Myself, I had my doubts as I started reading, but eventually, the quality of the "story" and insights, the effect it had on me, and the prophetic nature of Anastasia's declarations, not to mention the shear volume of the work and number of details touching real people and places that could not be faked, ended up dispelling my doubts. Though whether I believe she exists or not, the wisdom in the books rings true nonetheless. Also, they have a 2nd edition of the English translation out now that has non-weird covers (I personally like the old covers, but they do get strange looks) and some word changes to try and make the translation more accurate.

Anastasia (The Ringing Cedars Series, Book 1) When I first read Book 1, I thought it was too simplistic and too 'goody-two-shoes' to have any merit. After all, I've read hundreds of spiritual books. Then, the message began to grow on me, seemingly of it's own will and volition, and I read it again, along with Book 2. I must say I am very impressed with this series, and now I even see Hope for Humankind. I just received Books 3 & 4 today; Books 5 & 6 are back-ordered, and I want to read them in order. Do yourself and this lovely blue planet a favor and read the books!

I am a HUGE fan of Neale Donald Walsch. Every since the "Conversations with God books" which changed my life, my thinking and my beliefs, I have been a respecter of his books. I have every one of them. Even the book and video of "The Secret", in which he participates, if Neale did not participate in it, I would not have bought it. It is not Neale, but the spirit of God that speaks to me through him.

Having read many books of the simplicity genre you will find that this book is unique. It has challenged me to deeply reflect upon my life and how I can further shed unecessary burdens. Before reading this book I already lived simple. After reading this book it shined the light in areas I was still attached to. This book will have an impact on my life forever. It exposes the emptiness of a life based solely on money, career, possessions, and the daily grind. Awakening the dormant spiritual giant within us that longs for depth and meaning in a society gone mad with superficiality. "Less is More" can help guide one toward the path of freedom, beauty, simplicty and adventure.

I bought my copy circa 1978 at age 35 and shared it with my wife. Even though we were already instinctively thinking along these lines this book impressed us greatly. It's title became something of a household quip and we found ourselves frequently dipping into it and finding something applicable to the rat race. It became so dog-eared that we had it custom bound as a family treasure. Its wisdom has seen us into a early, modest, and satisfactory retirement.

'Less is More' is a collection of quotes and very short essays from a multitude of sources on the value of simplicity. Some of those quoted lived and wrote many centuries ago, while others are from the near present, and of course, there are many in between. Some of the more recognizable people quoted include Ghandi, Thomas Hobbes, Socrates, Thoreau, Shakespeare, St. Francis, Pascal, Adam Smith, Benjamin Franklin, John Kenneth Galbraith, Muhammad, Arthur Miller, and H.G. Wells. Some of the sources used are the Bible, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Dhammapada, and the Tao Te Ching.
The quotes are grouped according to the various facets of this subject, although some of them are more obviously related to living simply than others. Most of the quotes range from a few sentences to a paragraph or two. The excerpt from the first chapter is not representative of the overall book. I have owned an earlier edition of this book for many years and continue to find it inspiring. I only wish that there were a hardcover edition available as my paperback copy is becoming rather worn from being read and re-read by myself and the people I have lent it to.

The book is so beautiful with photos on good paper that it has never been put away on my book shelves. It stays on my work table as a source of constant inspiration. I learn something new each time I pick it up.

I've owned this book since it was first published and learned much about the art from its pages. Last week I had the good fortune to take a week-long workshop with the author at the Revere Academy in San Francisco. We used the book as text and reference throughout a fantastic week of exploration. In person, Linda is every bit as informative and enthusiastic as her fine book would lead one to expect. For anyone who can't share the luck of those who have studied with her directly, this book is by far the most thorough, clearly written, beautifully illustrated enameling manual currently in print. If you want to learn The Art of Enameling, buy this book before any other!

First off I have to state that I absolutely loved this book! Wilber's writing style caught my eye instantly. He intertwines thought-provoking theories which can be applied toward every aspects of ones life with the use of non-technical language. This allowed me as a reader to understand the book without having a large background in such ideas as shown in The Theory of Everything (TOE).
TOE is expressed throughout the book to simply be the understanding everything is intertwined with everything else. To me, while reading this book I began to think that the world could be viewed as a giant spider-web; everything and everyone is interlaced and integrated in all action all actions of their lives and that in and of itself is an amazing idea.
I appreciated the detail-oriented, complex graphs shown throughout the book and even though I got lost more then a few times looking them over, I felt it wasn't necessary to fully comprehend Wilber's theory.
I especially liked that Wilber addressed many problems within society; however, at the end of the book (p.138) he addresses how one would began to achieve the status of "all-level, all-quadrant" by beginning with the waves of existence within ones self and that initiating a transformation isn't as difficult as one would think.

The thesis of this book is that we need an "integral" approach to everything. What is an integral approach? Well, it takes into account all levels and all quadrants. So there.
Here's what you do. Create a sort of Dewey Decimal System for reality. Slice it into chunks, cram the chunks into categories, nest concepts inside other concepts, then create lots of lists, levels, charts, graphs, diagrams, spirals, and hierarchies. Adopt a progressive color scheme to describe the levels of human progress, from beast to buddha. Make a four-quadrant diagram. Find a place for everything in one of the quadrants. In fact, make a bunch of four-quadrant diagrams to demonstrate that, with a little ingenuity, you can make everything fit.
Once you have performed this microscopic analysis, declare that the proper course for humanity in all things is to consider all the stuff in all the quadrants. There, now, isn't that helpful? As the author says, "In the Theory of Everything, I have one major rule: EVERYBODY is right. More specifically, everybody--including me--has some important pieces of truth, and all of those pieces need to be honored, cherished and included in a more gracious, spacious, and compassionate embrace, a genuine T.O.E." (Emphasis in original.)
Suppose you're willing accept that dubious but egalitarian sentiment. How do you distinguish the "important pieces of truth" from the nonsense. Now THAT would be helpful. Wilber can't be bothered with such messy business. He's already handled the hard part. He told you to be integral. Does he have to explain everything?
The book is filled with quirky words to describe trite concepts. Consider the "holon." His definition: "A holon is a whole that is part of other wholes. For example, a whole atom is part of a whole molecule; a whole molecule is part of a whole cell; a whole cell is part of a whole organism." What is the real analytical value of a word that describes everything in the universe? (Maybe Wilber's answer is that reality is holon's "all the way up and all the way down," as he says in the Notes. Cute, but of what use?) The concept of the "meme," when introduced by Richard Dawkins, was new and useful (even if it is stretched out of shape by Wilber). Not so with holons. Although by definition, a meme must be a holon, since everything else is.
Wilber has other distracting habits. As others have observed, he spends much of his time promoting his other books and dropping names. It all leads me to wonder why his writings and his ideas are so rarely cited, other than by himself. Some of his remarks, such as on evolution, would be shared with a fringe group, at best. It is apparent that he spends a great deal of time reading and pondering, but not enough time testing his ideas against those who would challenge him. He comes off as a wannabe guru.
I remember late nights in college during the 1970's, sitting around with friends, absorbed in deeply meaningful discussions that produced flashes of sudden insight, revelations so profound they simply must be preserved. I'd rush to my journal to record the epic moment for future generations. The next day I'd jump out of be and open my journal, eager to read what I knew had to be irrefutable proof of enlightened thought. Then I'd read it.
Reading A Theory of Everything reminded me of that.

Nothing but an incoherent collection of allusions to other works, filled with trendy pop-philosophy terminology like "meme" and "holon". Over 23% of the book is simply the word "integral". There are no visions in this book, only "integral" visions; a hierarchy is not good enough, it must be an "integral" hierarchy. Avoid.

In this book Ken Wilber presents a concise overview of his basic ideas and how they can be applied to various areas such as medicine, education and business. This isn't a bad place to start reading Ken Wilber, but you would most likely be better served by reading A BRIEF HISTORY OF EVERYTHING. This latter book goes more in-depth, rambles less and is presented in an interview format. It goes much more deeply, is more interesting, persuasive and easy to follow.
What Ken is attempting to do in this book and others is to take the best ideas and common threads from many different areas including psychology, philosophy and the world's wisdom traditions and consolidate them into a coherent worldview that considers multiple ways of knowing and respects all domains of experience such as the interior (subjective) and exterior (objective) of both individuals and collectives e.g. various cultures.
Mr. Wilber argues that reality consists of holons which are wholes that are also parts of other more complex wholes. An example of this would be subatomic particles make up atoms, atoms make up molecules, etc. Each whole has four irreducible dimensions as described above and there is an increase in complexity as one moves upward toward more complexity.
Ken also brings up the point that each domain or quadrant has different criteria for validity claims. For example, their may be one set of criteria for studying molecules, but a quite different set for studying the interiors of individuals e.g. mystical experience, the personal experience of emotion, etc.
Another important point that Ken makes is that at each successive level of complexity, new properties emerge that can not be fully accounted for on the basis of the whole being the sum of the parts. One such emergent is consciousness.
It is difficult to capture the spirit and key concepts of this author in a small space, but I think his synthesis has considerable validity and value. He assumes no one can be completely wrong and his attempted synthesis across many worldviews is very appealing.
If you were only going to buy one book on Ken Wilber, this would not be my top choice. However, if you are looking for a simple fast read that introduces his ideas, this volume might be for you.

If you work with, or want to work with, the Faery beings, this lovely oracle deck can help bring you into contact with the Faery realms. It can be used as a meditative tool, as keys for connecting with certain Faery, or even contacting your Faery contacts who help you within the Other Realms. One thing I love is that the writer of the book and the artist push you to develop your own relationship with the Fey rather than rely soley on the book for interrpretations which is as it should be!

I originally purchased these cards for a friend (on a whim) but when I saw them I was so enchanted by them I kept them for myself! (I'll order another set for the friend.) Their energy is delightful, intense, and a welcome change from the standard tarot deck. I like that the accompanying book is a hard-back and have found it a very useful guide to the cards. Users/collectors of tarot or other oracle-type cards should definitely give these a try.

I once wished that there was a grown-up version of the Girl Scouts for well-meaning women, like myself, who needed only a little guidance to get started. I purchased this book for my 81 year old mother and borrowed it soon after. I will now have to go back to the bookstore and buy more. I feel compelled to share this book with women I know and love. Knowing that the author died on United Flight 93 adds unbelievable weight to her words. It reminds me that no woman knows how much time she has left. I'm going to use this book to help me live, live, live!

Don't get me wrong, I really like this book. It's got good tips in it, but it's definitely overly 'cheesy' to me. Some points in some topics are *somewhat*-to-completely obvious, so it gets a little tiring to skim through things I already know through common sense (and perhaps through being a little older than 12).
Also what I was somewhat annoyed by was the 'motivational' tips on each page where I can basically write that I'm going to get more organized or make sure I throw out old banking statements.
What I do like is the uncommon suggestions from real experts on such things. That's the sort of thing I bought the book for. So my suggestion to make the book better would be to condense things a bit, and don't suggest everything, only provide more helpful tips that most seemingly don't think about instead of a gen-ed guide to living.

You Can Do It! was an idea Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas had for a year before she died on September 11, 2001, on her way home from her grandmother's funeral aboard United Flight 93. Whether it was learning to cook, garden or scuba dive, Lauren was always trying something new. She is remembered by her friends and family as their personal coach and champion. It is a fine tribute to Lauren's memory that they completed this project on her behalf.
Lauren, a former Girl Scout, structured the book around sixty "badge activities." Mentors for each chapter become a cheerleading team, encouraging women to make our dreams a reality. In order to earn a badge, you need to follow the "badge steps." The badges are full-color stickers created by Toronto illustrator Julia Breckenreid.
The first chapter I turned to in the "Create" section was "Be an Author." I always love to see what other writers have to say about the writing life. In this one, poet and novelist Laurie Henry explains what she does (writes books including The Novelist's Notebook) and why she does it ("it's an engrossing challenge"). For "extra credit," there's some advice on "Getting Published." The chapter touches on every aspect of the writing life, such as what to do when you're not writing (read). Or to keep the momentum going, meet with other writers. Every chapter has an extensive list of resources as suggested by the chapter's mentor.
No dream is too big or too small the author reminds us. So readers can check out firewalking, beading or sewing. Practical advice is included on the subject of money, and inspiration is included for our inner lives through such activities as meditation. Maybe you don't know what it is you need mentoring for. As you browse through the book, you'll remember, "Oh, yes, that's the dream I put on hold." At the end of the book, you are invited to dream up your own badge.
I found the book's design, by Debbie Berne of Herter Studio in San Francisco, attractive as well as practical. An innovative approach to the table of contents, for instance, is a checkerboard in greens, white and black. It's visually appealing and reminds us there are many moves we can make as we dare, create, learn, play, deal, connect and dream--all headings for the sections of the book.
The book made me feel like an excited kid again. But this time my kid has a team of mentors to encourage me. You Can Do It! is an inspiring and encouraging springboard for girls of all ages. Young girls can learn of all the many possibilities, and mid-life women (or beyond mid-life like me) can be affirmed in knowing they still have a chance to learn something new.
The accompanying You Can Do It! Workbook is a place to Dream It, Write It, Do It, and it reminds you to turn your to-do lists upside down. That means your want-to-do's will be on top. The workbook has lots of space, guided exercises, roomy pockets for brochures, an address book for your support network. The inspirational quotes throughout were like the voice of a coach as I made my daily journal entries.
Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas pursued a career in marketing and advertising, had her own consulting company in Northern California and, most recently, served as account executive for Good Housekeeping. As the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States reported, "The nation owes a debt to the passengers of United 93. Their actions saved the lives of countless others and may have saved either the U.S. Capitol or the White House from destruction." Lauren's legacy lives on in the dreams and aspirations of women of all ages. The proceeds from You Can Do It! go to the Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas Foundation to support charitable causes that were of interest to Lauren.

A wonderful self help book for women who, after setting aside personal dreams and aspirations for the sake of others, seek to reconnect with their own unique dreams in life. Based upon the Girl Scout Model of the Merit Badge, Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas' book defines a step by step approach for a variety of accomplishments, big and small. Menors who are experts in the field provide guidance and advice.
For those who do not know, the author, Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas, tragically died on United Flight 93. She had (and has still) a special gift for mentoring and encouraging other women. Very refreshing for today. Proceeds from the book, which was finished by her two sisters, goes to Lauren's favorite charities.
This is a very touching book through which the spirit of a vibrant, compassionate woman lives on.

This summer I was feeling a little down - just lost my job of 14 years due to corporate downsizing - and realized that I could no longer separate who I was from what I did. I went on a previously planned beach vacation and took Sadie Nardini's new book "Road Trip Guide to the Soul" with me. WOW - this is a must read book with something for everyone! It's written in Sadie's trademark style - authentic, hip and fun.....and filled with deep wisdom and insight into our journey through this life. Sadie is an amazing yoga teacher and coach, her classes light a fire in everyone who takes them. The "Road Trip" energized me, elevated me and filled me with a newfound energy, courage and committment to make the most of my life journey on this planet. Thanks to Sadie I realize that yes, I can be "my own boyfriend"! - that is, I don't need to depend on anyone or anything, I have everything I need inside me. So check back with me in a few months to see where my newfound sense of self and purpose has taken me! For now, I can authentically say that the most important thing I did this summer was take a "road trip" with Sadie Nardini. You can too!
Thank you,

How a road trip guide to the soul could be related to a universe compass to guide you, no matter where you are right now, through the challenges/changes in life and teach you, in a simple, clear, profound yet humorous way about old yogic truths that govern our lives in this planet?
Ms. Sardini, an inspring, fearless, fun and dedicated to life transformation teacher, whom I met, serving as a diplomat/press secretary, almost a year ago in my NYC stop, in the East-West yoga studio, taught me and reminded me some simple truths about how to live our lives, appreciating and confronting each moment of our life, with full consciousness.
I have felt that through her I added an essential skill to my planetary baggage, a genuine, profound and fun way to the better understanding of the people across countries, and specially here in the US, of how they/I connect their/my body expression to my sould expression to achieve their/my self-realization.
Maintaining a strong center in the midst of a thunderstorm and working towards the achievement of balance in any given situation is the best way to contribute towards peace and therefore to everyone's right to self-realization in a free, conscious and responsible way, which is ultimately everyone's right and obligation in this planet.By understanding this very simple need we can connect easier to our higher self/puropse in life and contribute, creatively, to the broader cause of peace, compassion, tolerance and living meaningfully from our center, as Ms. Sardini would add.

Sadie rocks!......this book is chock full of life wisdom, and Sadie will set you straight about the laws of the universe and manifestation. Sadie's openness about her own journey and struggles towards self actualization and a life lived with purpose and intention are an inspiration for us all. This book is for anyone looking to cut to the chase, stop wasting time with things that don't matter in 'the big picture' and keep moving towards the light and all the beautiful things in life that does. She takes the teachings and concepts of yoga and puts in a metaphorical road trip journey that anyone would like to right shotgun on!

I've been taking Sadie's classes for almost 5 years, and I have to say, this book is like having Sadie along for the ride of your life...a personal life-coach you can take with you anywhere. If you can't make it to NYC to take her yoga classes, this book, along with her dvd, will change your life, and encourage you to tap into your inner strength and shine it out.
Sadie writes clearly, in easy to understand, easily digestible chapters that illuminate ancient yogic truths in ways that we can all use and benefit from. She will be your guide on an inner trip that will empower you to make real, lasting changes in your life that will benefit not only yourself, but everyone around you.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. It's real, it's powerful, and it will change your life.
