I am a teacher of Metaphysics and bought this book discover more about my own child and other children that I teach and also ended up discovering a few things about myself. I love the way Doreen has children interview other children to get their full and honest views on their lives and how they deal with them. Who better for a child to console with, but another child. This is a very easy to read book and flow smoothly from one subject to another. I think this is a great first book to start reading about Indigos because it really gives a good background and foundation for the world that you are about to open your eyes to.

I recommend this book to any parent of an Indigo. I read it very quickly and it offered excellent advice on the raising and care of an Indigo child. It will stay in my library to be used as a reference tool in the future.

Thanx to Doreen Virtue I now can answer/explain different things to my children in terminology they understand, such as,"this is the way they do it on earth..." Most important for me was the feedback from other "aware" parents with helping my children cope in this "foreign to them" world. thanx so much!!!!

Some ideas in this book were right on, some were unbelieveable to me (such as indigos choosing their own age to die - particularly living to be a few hundred years old). Aside from strange ideas like that I think the information in this book can help indigos and non indigos, such as eating healthy and avoiding dyes and preservatives. However, contrary to popular belief, I do not believe most indigo's are true ADD or ADHD, and the ones in this book giving their eperience of the medicines were biased. Medicine does help some children who truly need it (though I believe you should try to wait until they are at least 8-9 years old). Doctors will happily write any parent a perscription because they make money doing so. This is what they have been taught. Parents should always try alternative methods first, and also check for common allergies (wheat, milk, soy, eggs, peanuts etc.) My sons have a wheat allergy (one who is an indigo in particular, his behavior changed drastically when wheat and milk were removed from his diet. The older one (a sweet crystal child) did start medicine when he was 9 but takes a low dose, does not "space out on meds or seem high", and was able to get out of a self contained class to regular classes, have a B+ average, and has his PDD_NOS / autism diagnosis now classified in partial remission. He has many friends and is well liked by his teachers as well. You can not tell he is different (he grew out of his odd speech) except for the fact he is so well behaved. His other brothers, well thats another story...(but they're great too!)

I believe many of the indigos in here were mislabled (as they could be gifted), and ADHD and gifted children share traits such as questions and challenging authority. They were not severe enough to warrent meds, but unfortunately schools pressure it when children do not conform. Always keep respect for your child and give them love and structure (and discipline if needed.)

Putting down meds so much I believe causes a separation between traditional and alternative medicine when what I feel is needed is a blending of the two systems to benefit the whole population, indigo or not.

Indigo Child - New Age Label For Neurodivergents

I read the book, THE CARE AND FEEDING OF INDIGO CHILDREN by
Doreen Virtue, Ph.D.
I took a look at it,and I found that I could strongly relate to this
stuff. Therefore, I bought the book. The more I read it, the more I
believed that Indigo Child seemed like a label for children with
learning disabilities and AD/HD. I feel that New Agers created this
label because of the skyrocketing increase of children with AD/HD. The
problem is that the AD/HD condition is not just exclusive to children.
There has been an increase of diagnosing AD/HD in adults. Some were
diagnosed AD/HD at 60 yrs old. In 2004, I was diagnosed inattentive
type ADHD at the age of 32, and my mother told me that she can relate
to many of the symptoms AD/HD and Dyslexia. From what my mother told
me,my father seemed to have Dyslexia and AD/HD. From what I have seen
in my mother's side of the family, numerous relatives have these AD/HD
traits. Everyone of my mother's 4 halfsiblings dropped out of high
school, and my mother never even went to high school. They did find
their niches, and they did well in their careers except for my uncle
Dino has gone through many jobs but he has learned many skills. My
Uncle Eddie who is now 47 years old, was always hyperactive. He was in
special ed with speech problems like me. My stepgrandmother refused to
have him medicated because both her and my grandfather were
hyperactive, and they weren't on medication. It seems that
hyperactivity runs in the family.

With knowing these things, I do not
believe in Indigo generation nor the Indigo label itself. The label is
not going to help a child with problems with learning to read and
communicate as well as learn. Special education helped correct my
Dyslexic,Dyspraxic problems,and so I am a compensated Dyslexic,Dyspraxic
As for the AD/HD, I really don't think it's a problem. I honestly feel that it's an alternative learning style that doesn't fit well with mainstream classroom, and I feel the same about Dyslexia. I also feel that because of their sensitivity, the wrong foods can affect them in adverse ways. I also feel that the fluorescent lights in the classrooms can make them feel uncomfortable and can exacerbate both AD/HD,Dyslexic,and Dyspraxic symptoms. Fluorescent lights can make Scotopic Sensitivity worse. The fluorescent lights can make people with Scotopic Sensitivity have problems seeing black print on white paper due to reflection of the light on the paper.

I was a special ed student for 3 yrs in elementary school. If it wasn't for special education(motor skills therapy, auditory therapy, speech therapy, phonics training, I would always had severe problems with language processing and very poor motor skills because of my Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. I have had psychiatric misdiagnoses of psychotic, bipolar crap by psychiatrists in adulthood because they were ignorant of my Dyslexic,Dyspraxic nature. I have history of anxiety and depression. I have always have been extremely sensitive on every level too. I was referred to as being "special" by my mother and stepfather. After all, I had special needs. I was in special education. A lot of people had no idea how much I hated that word. You know how some people say "Oh..You think that you are so special!" to cut you down. They didn't know they were talking to somebody that had special needs and was a special ed student. I definitely believe that Indigo Child is just a New Age copout label for people like myself. I don't believe in the Indigo Child propaganda.

I believe that Indigo Child is an umbrella term for people with atypical neurological systems(AD/HDers,Dyslexics,Dyspraxics,other Learning Disabled,Aspergers,Autistics) like myself. They have always existed.
There is nothing new about people like us. We're the types that have been in self contained special education classes, special schools, group homes, doped up on heavy antipsychotics, gave us lobotomies,or locked us up in asylums. Our types were probably burnt at the stake in other time periods. In modern times, we just have more awareness of the diversity of neurological make-ups in people. We have a very long way to go for society to tolerate and accept neurodiversity which is shown by the skyrocketing increase of neurodivergent people on psychiatric
medications.

There have been many insightful and helpful books written over time on the subject of living in the moment and only one that stands out for me as the best...and this book is it. It's the best in my opinion because the tools and ideas presented truly work in creating a life where lasting satisfaction and fulfillment can happen. It is definitely possible to live in the moment, day in day out, where the bumps on your life's road do not need to throw you off your path. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in living a life they dream of...it's possible for you because it's happened and continues to happen for me in my own life.

Life really can be this simple. WOW!!!!!! YEN Florida

I am a professional female that has felt out of place since I was 13. I have seen therapists and searched for something to fix myself my whole life. I have read many self help books and done The Landmark Forum. In 1998 I landed in an AA room and was taught the 12 Steps of recovery. I read the BIG BOOK and thought the stories were exaggerated since I couldn't relate to them. I stopped drinking and took the suggested steps; taking a "fearless moral inventory" of myself by identifying my so called defects of character. As I grew in recovery, I was to take a daily inventory of myself which constantly reinforced that there was always something wrong with me that needed fixing. I now have 7 years of uninterrupted sobriety and recently I had the pleasure of reading the book "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work" and WOW!!! Did I get it...

See in AA we strive to live a day at a time but to be able to live a moment at a time was not something I had ever considered (I mean who can live in the moment there is so much to plan for?). It wasn't by doing the 12 steps that I learned I was living my life based on exaggerated truths made up as a child. These ideas ranged from "don't let anyone ever tell you what to do "to" don't ever depend on any man". These ideas never supported me in my life. They in fact have hindered every relationship I ever had whereby I never married or had children.
Now that I am aware of those ideas thru reading this book, I have never looked back or thought about them again. I have quit trying to work on myself. I have accepted my life and everything about it.

My life is so easy today. I have actually been able to save a relationship that I unconsciously have been sabotaging for the last 3 years. I saw clearly why I was afraid of success. Since I now have the insights, I choose not to go back to the past and judge myself or others for anything that happened. I also choose not to spend time in a place that doesn't exist yet. I can just concentrate on the fabulous moment and how it feels to be here right now. Talk about freedom from the bondage of self. My shackles have been taken off permanently. Thank you to Ariel and Shya for sharing their incredible experiences with the world and most importantly for the ease in which they do it.

I remember when I first read this book I was struck by how peaceful it made me feel. I can't access that peace all the time and so I'm learning to be ok with that. The book may appear quite simple compared to the intensive work that others might give you. I'm a huge fan of Martha Beck, Byron Katie and Eckhart Tolle--but what the Kanes have created here is a way to access your life as the "work" for you to do. Just live it and keep in mind the principles of how life unfolds: what you resist persists (watch and you'll see how it appears in your life), no two things can occupy the same place at the same time (so why waste a moment with complaint?), and anything you allow to be exactly as it is will complete itself (try it, the moment can't last forever so let it be what it wants to be--or else it persists).

I'm grateful for having found this book and the Kanes. Truly magical.

Its just another of many "God is who you want him to be, find your own way..nirvana, happy place yada yada written to sell, not to help books..I have to say that if God is who you want him to be?? then how could HE be God? Must be YOU thats God..anyway the book was disgustingly typical.

Having read many books of the simplicity genre you will find that this book is unique. It has challenged me to deeply reflect upon my life and how I can further shed unecessary burdens. Before reading this book I already lived simple. After reading this book it shined the light in areas I was still attached to. This book will have an impact on my life forever. It exposes the emptiness of a life based solely on money, career, possessions, and the daily grind. Awakening the dormant spiritual giant within us that longs for depth and meaning in a society gone mad with superficiality. "Less is More" can help guide one toward the path of freedom, beauty, simplicty and adventure.

I bought my copy circa 1978 at age 35 and shared it with my wife. Even though we were already instinctively thinking along these lines this book impressed us greatly. It's title became something of a household quip and we found ourselves frequently dipping into it and finding something applicable to the rat race. It became so dog-eared that we had it custom bound as a family treasure. Its wisdom has seen us into a early, modest, and satisfactory retirement.

Lots of products claim that they will change your life. This one does...

'Less is More' is a collection of quotes and very short essays from a multitude of sources on the value of simplicity. Some of those quoted lived and wrote many centuries ago, while others are from the near present, and of course, there are many in between. Some of the more recognizable people quoted include Ghandi, Thomas Hobbes, Socrates, Thoreau, Shakespeare, St. Francis, Pascal, Adam Smith, Benjamin Franklin, John Kenneth Galbraith, Muhammad, Arthur Miller, and H.G. Wells. Some of the sources used are the Bible, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Dhammapada, and the Tao Te Ching.

The quotes are grouped according to the various facets of this subject, although some of them are more obviously related to living simply than others. Most of the quotes range from a few sentences to a paragraph or two. The excerpt from the first chapter is not representative of the overall book. I have owned an earlier edition of this book for many years and continue to find it inspiring. I only wish that there were a hardcover edition available as my paperback copy is becoming rather worn from being read and re-read by myself and the people I have lent it to.

This is a terrific essay published very badly by Filiquarian Publishing. Almost unreadable with awkwardly inserted "sidenotes" and strange formating. An additional prayer, not in the original essay or by Hubbard as far as I can find out, ends the text. Download or buy another version. I ordered two of these before I's read enough reviews of the specific Filiquarian edition to know to get something else. Further it is NOT a military story, though it is relevant to military service. The essay was inspired by the actions of Rowan but do not describe them in any detail. It is thoughts on the superior/ subordinates - employer/employees relationship. I, like Hubbard, have been both employer and employee. Until you've been an employer don't gripe about what Hubbard has to say. He speaks the truth of the value of an employee or subordinate who will carry a message to Garcia. Your best is what is desired and rewarded (or paid for) not just you showing up. It's a joint effort. Put your ego aside. Hubbard's words aspire to a morality that seems sadly in short supply. Or maybe not, Larry the Cable Guy might understand: Just "Get R done".
5 stars for the essay, 1 star for this edition.

This book is a classic. When I reported to my first assignment as a young Army officer, my company commander had me read this book. I am glad that he did. It is short and to the point. The message of "make it happen" really resonated with me then, and it still does.

I recently purchased the book and am having my colleagues at work read it. Most had never heard of it, and appreciated the content. Therefore, I recommend it is a quick read and reminder that the world is in desperate need of people who spend less time complaining, pondering, posturing, posing, back-stabbing, you name it....but actually get things done.

I couldn't get past page 30 around the time when I read that there is no freedom unless God dies. I don't want to kill God in any way shape or form. Its funny cause I needed a book to help me feel stronger in myself worth. I thought this book might help me. I was torn between buying a good study bible to expand my staggering faith or a new aged book on self growth. I thought " Hey this is it!!!!" I figured I would give it a try. Its funny cause reading it made me want to read the bible even more. I felt as though I were reading the words of someone that hated a long lost friend of mine. I didn't like his standing point on religion at all. So needless to say I purchased a bible shortly after and I am growing in that. I feel free now!!! Osho seems to hate everything thats normal in our society and everything thats loving as well. To be free frienship must die because it is like a form of slavery, marriage is a form of slavery becuase it binds you to another person. We should all just love one another and not claim one another.. then you are free. I just couldn't get with his idea of freedom.

I have all the law of attraction books and this one works best for me.
Ahlquist tells the reader up front that this is no new theory. She also addresses the other books before her's and lets us know that some presentations work better for some people. Her book makes it simple and fun to understand. She talks about prayer, God, and compassion which is not in the other books very much. It is more logical than some of the others and is already working in my life.
Since I read her book I have started to change my work situation around and am on the road to a new relationship.
I love the book and her humor makes understanding more fun.

I can't say in a thousand words what Osho means to me. I would say that Osho is a being that touches the unbelievable.
What you must understand is that Osho talks to a multitude of different kinds of minds and so it is difficult to say which book on him is a good start.
In some readings he explains is approach and methods, in others he just brainwash all your assumptions and false beliefs.
In this book he uncovers the secrets of being born as someone that needs intuition as a way to unlock the confusing tricks of our mind and knowledge.
In other books he talks on intimacy, courage, old religions, traditions and ways of knowledge and plainly explains how to step into the unkown.
And the unkown is not the unknowable, you have to set your mind and your thoughts in a way that whatever you will ever know is mental and cognitive. You are the necessary bondage and the unique reality. And Osho ultimatly makes you think and act for yourself out of inner freedom. You can find it to have more weight or more lightness but the BEING is the same, and his words just make you cool down to abundance.
It makes you think in so many different ways and also gives place to an essence that is not the ego, the false personality produced by external circunstances. In spite of ego he lifts you alone with existence and with your uniqueness and inner freedom.

Intuition is not something that you buy ready-made

To have intuition you have to move into a higher level of consciousness and sensitivity. Otherwise, if you are half-sleep as the mayority of people are, it is impossible to understand intuition. Osho is very clear stating that intuition is not an intellectual pursuit or intellectual analysis made with your mind. You have to move beyond the mind, to the "witnessing consciusness" to contact a higher dimension. You cannot buy a book on intuition and expect to have it after you finish reading it. We in the West want everyting ready-made instant coffee. Intuition does not work that way. Osho tells us like it is and I am sorry if somebody is hurt.

Parenting With Fire: Lighting Up the Family with Passion and Inspiration

I Love all of Shmuley's books. He does NOT give you the "Jewish way" he gives you the human way of doing things. He does not "preach" to you but makes you realize there is a better/different way. I will continue to purchase and take to heart his books and advice.

Best parenting book I've ever read!

This was such a quick read and the author has a great down to earth style to his writing. I was very humbled by this book. I think it gives such excellent ideas about living your best life and creating the same for your children. I'm going to 4 baby showers this year and I will be giving this book as a present to every one of the moms!

This is a great and a MUST read! He does have religious references-- after all he is a Rabbi-- but, if you take his religious references as just that, an example, he has a great message of intregity.
