Over the last few years I have lost a lot of my self esteem and have started suffering from a bit of insomnia. I realized I could not put up with this a moment longer. Changed my diet, lost 20 lbs and have now focused on my esteem issues and sleep. Purchasing The Secret to Attracting Love has put me on an excellent path. Each night I turn it on using speakers on both sides of the bed. Though I have only been listening for about 3-4 weeks my sleep has improved dramatically. I awake more rested and ready for the day. The biggest of all is that I can honestly say I feel more desirable to attacting the "right" type of love.

The set up for hypnosis on this CD is wonderful. Kelly's voices is one of the best I have ever heard. However, the CD was not what I had hoped. It is primarily visualization, which is found on many other CD's of this nature. I was wanting more of a program with suggestions for reprogramming and overcoming inner obstacles. The suggestions on this CD were very limited.

I'm a woman who has it all- husband, kids, house, career - and sometimes all the demands leave me a bit... haggard looking. This book is practical and educates me on taking better care of my skin so my inner beauty shines through! I love the appendix of great products that are sure to fit my price range. I'm definitely giving this book to my beauty buddies!

What a great combination these two docs are! They are the perfect prescription to help EVERY WOMAN learn to appreciate all of her assets and NOT TO FOCUS on her flaws. I feel a million times better about myself and am learning to remember to try to project that inner happiness because I know it makes me not only look better, but feel better too! Not everyone's lucky enough to be on Dr. Debi & Dr. Eva's patient list so many thanks to these talented, intelligent, insightful (and beautiful!) women for sharing their knowledge and experience with us fortunate readers.

The Beauty Prescription is a graceful and engaging account of the emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual elements necessary to address inner and outer beauty. The authors share personal anecdotes, clinical examples, and relevant research in an effort to address readers concerns about everything from skin care to the complexities of relationships. Doctors Ritvo and Luftman, representing the fields of psychiatry and dermatology, are able to approach this topic in an in depth manner which adds to the insights available from each field. I find this to be a profound and lively read and believe other women will as well. P. Brooke Alexander, MSW, LCSW

This is the perfect book because it gives you easy and practical ways to improve your general appearance which certainly improves your general mood. My wife read the book cover to cover and has recommended it to all of her friends. She especially loved the "beauty buddies" section, which reminded us how friendships are important in the connection to our look and well being. Perfect book! I suggest all husbands buy this for their wives.

I was introduced to this book the day I discovered I had breast cancer and was in need of surgery and treatment. Each day I was able to have a positive thought pass through me, because each day I read one of Alan's quotes or stories. It got me through the worst of times and the best of times. I appreciated it so much that I have recommended it and purchased it for others who are going through "stuff" in the life. It is the gift that keeps on giving. I highly recommend you buy this gift for yourself to enjoy...everyday of the year.

This book is so good I keep ordering them for my friends. I read it last year and am re-reading it this year. It's written to read one page each day of the year. Talk about starting my day off on the right foot! It really helps me to start off my day focused on good things. The rest of my day just naturally goes smooth. It's spiritual, funny, and sometimes deep. But it always leaves me feeling warm.

This book is a daily read filled with inspirational
anecdotes which highlight how practical the ideas are
and how they might be applied to everyday situations.
More than that, it reminds the reader of his power and
purpose to create the life he/she desires. I never fail
to be amazed by the timelines of each days entry. I
recommend this book without reservations.

This is basically a calender-a date on each page followed by an inspiring quote, a short page long (or less) essay/parable/real life story, a short prayer and an affirmation-rendering this book super-easy to read no matter how super-busy you are.
Although God and Jesus are referenced many times in this, and his other-Dare to be Yourself book, it shouldn't affect the healing these books are offering-anyone could read them-it's a live and let live deal.
You may want to keep some highlighter pens on hand. Good stuff.

As Vladamir Megree, the transcriber of Anastasia's Truth would say: "Wow, Anastasia you are living in tune with nature!" And as we have been warned both by Luddites and sensitives, our mechanical/electronic inventions, one by one erode away our innate abilities to be in contact and communicate with all that is. Two examples: The mature cedar trees of the Siberian Tiaga wish to be cut down and distributed as little discs for folks to wear so that the cosmic radiation they have stored up over 500 years can be reradiated back to mankind. When you plant your garden, stand barefoot in the soil and put some of your seeds under your tongue for a few minutes so that the seeds can read your energy field and bring forth fruits that will heal your weaknesses and make you whole. A delightful and inspiring book. It is the first of a series of 10

The Ringing Cedars of Russia, the second book of the Series, in addition to providing a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the story of how Anastasia came to be published, offers a deeper exploration of the universal concepts so dramatically revealed in Book 1. It takes the reader on an adventure through the vast expanses of space, time and spirit - from the Paradise-like glade in the Siberian taiga to the rough urban depths of Russia's capital city, from the ancient mysteries of our forebears to a vision of humanity's radiant future.
REVIEWS
"The Ringing Cedars of Russia invites us to step into a world where love is the primary creative force behind real physical events. This energy of love shows us how to focus on the here and now, in which happiness is revealed. It also guides us in the healing of our relationship with the whole planet."
-- Dr Richard Bolstad, New Zealand psychologist, author of RESOLVE: a new NLP model of therapy and Creating a cooperative world
"The Ringing Cedars Series will impact a new generation of readers, like the works of Carlos Castaneda did for a previous generation -- only this time through awakening the latent spiritual connection each of us has with nature. This is not about a walk in the woods, rather these books catapult us to an entirely new way of being on planet Earth."
-- Steven Foster, American naturalist, author of A field guide to medicinal plants and herbs
ABOUT THE RINGING CEDARS SERIES
In 1994 a Siberian elder told entrepreneur Vladimir Megre a fascinating story about 'ringing cedars' -- trees respected from Biblical times for their power to re-connect Man with the Divine. The elder told him where such a ringing cedar was growing in the Siberian backwoods. Vladimir Megre set out on an expedition to find the tree, but his encounter with the elder's granddaughter, named Anastasia, transformed him so deeply that he abandoned his commercial plans and, penniless, went to Moscow to fulfil his promise to Anastasia and write a book about the spiritual insights she so generously shared with him.
What happened next has thrilled and inspired millions. With no advertisement other than word of mouth, books of the Ringing Cedars Series have sold over 10 million copies in Russia alone and have been translated into 20 languages, making Vladimir Megre one of Russia's most widely read authors. Inspired by the Ringing Cedars, thousands of people are now planting trees, changing their lifestyle and, in search for a spiritual re-connection with the Earth, relocating to new eco-villages sprouting all over Russia and beyond. Thousands of readers have felt a huge creative upsurge and started writing poetry and songs and doing paintings.
These mind-stirring books read like a fascinating novel, have the authenticity of a documentary account and present spiritual insights of incredible depth. Spanning dozens of subjects from child-rearing to gardening, from adventure to the meaning of human life, from megalithic science to breast-feeding and from sexuality to religion, they present an incredibly beautiful and equally practicable vision of humanity's spiritual connection to Nature that helps us understand ourselves and heal our Earth.

I have been working with the ideas in the this book for less than a week, but, already, I seem to have recovered a lot of my lost passion for creativity. I was sinking into a state of overwhelm. Now I am doing just about the same things creatively. The difference is that I am excited about what I am doing, I see meaning in all of this, and my gut level passion to reach my goals has returned. I wake up in the morning excited about my day. I enjoy the personal stories, as I can identify with a lot of the personal creative struggles listed. This is my second Eric Maisel book. The first one just did not speak to me like this one. Now I am all fired up, and looking forward to reading the rest of the book, completing the exercises, and increasing my understanding of how to deal with blockages with some solid, workable tools.
Dynamic Approach to Achieving Creative Excellence

After reading Eric Maisel's "Coaching the Artist Within," I realized it was not the kind of book that you read one time, reflect on how much you enjoyed it, then stick it somewhere on a shelf of favorites. For writers, actors, artists, musicians, and others serious about their creative pursuits, it's one of those books you keep within reach to help you more fully understand the nature of what you're dealing with as a creative artist.
Too many who place themselves on the perilous path of some form of creative artistry as a profession tend to fall deeply in love with the exciting creative part of the work while neglecting other equally important but less glamorous areas of it, such as consciously maintaining inspiration, obtaining funding for projects, remaining true to creative ideals, and balancing artistic inclinations with practical realities.
In short, Maisel provides through very lucid and entertaining prose, information, concepts, and inspiration for the average creative artist to apply to his or her life in such a way that it makes a significant positive difference. Among the most important of those concepts is that of becoming a "self-coach" capable of applying both value and useful assessments to the activities of your life. You could almost describe Maisel's approach to creative empowerment as tough-on-self love. But with its very useful exercises for mapping out the dynamics of the creative personality, and its strategies for overcoming obstacles to help maximize creative output, "Coaching the Artist Within" is clearly a great deal more.

I suspect that if you own anything Mr. Maisel has previously written, this book won't be of much use to you. (Also, if you have a lick of common sense this book might not be terrifically earth-shattering, either). I begin to suspect that there's a cadre for popular writers, like groupies, who go on Amazon and *flood* them with bogus good reviews. Either that, or a lot of clueless people who think simple advice like 'create a mission statement' is just the most profound thing they've ever heard.
Crista, another reviewer, was dead on. Nothing new in this book at all. Some of the stuff is almost cringe worthy--I seem to recall at one point he tells you to hang onto a small pebble and squeeze it periodically? I guess he picked that because red strings were already taken, or something.
For a creativity guru, he also, really sadly, plagiarizes himself. That really damages his ethos in my little Book of Ethics and Character. I swear that his entire chapter on 'centering' is the executive summary of 'Ten Zen Seconds'. I guess in that respect, this book might be worth buying if you've never read him--maybe it's a 'Best of Eric Maisel.' And even at that, it's not that good.
The stories are entertaining, and in fact oftentimes more useful than his dopey exercises, but even that grated after a while. Yeah yeah all of your clients are amazingly successful and it's all because of you...ever heard of a little *humility*, mon ami? On that note, allow me to indicate that the ENTIRETY of his further reading/resources appendix at the end of this minim opus are books written by...Eric Maisel.

1000X better than "Art and Fear"

Eric Maisel, San Francisco-based creativity coach and trainer of same, has delivered the excellent work Coaching the Artist Within. Unlike Art and Fear, Maisel's work feels more down to earth, less fluff-filled and is well-grounded by the author's experience as a licensed therapist and nationally certified counselor.
Coaching the Artist Within is presented in twelve segments referred to as "skill sets". Each has a specific purpose, being divided into information, examples and exercises. Perhaps it is the (former) teacher in me that appreciates Maisel's straightforward (but by no means flavorless) approach to mentoring over the Bayles and Orland spoonful of sugar oriented methods. The structure and resources in this book are impressive and intelligently presented. Specifically, I found that Maisel's ideas about dualistic thinking, which he identifies as separate from negative self-talk, insightful and relevant to my life and my study. Maisel defines dualistic thinking as a "either/or' mindset in which once a person has chosen their side of the coin a different reality becomes virtually impossible. His examples are easy to internalize:
"The moment I hear a client say that he favors process over product (or, more rarely, product over process) or that he favors simplicity over complexity (or, more rarely, complexity over simplicity), I suspect that he is in the habit of making excuses...and that he must be frequently creatively blocked. Just as one goal of an aware Taoist is to identify the principles of yin and yang and use their power to serve his ends so that in a given situation he manifests either more yin or more yang, the goal of a creative person is to honor both partners of every dualistic pair by choosing the quality he will manifest at different times." (Pgs. 56 - 57)
Maisel has chosen an apt delivery system to unmask this most insidious of self-traps. Dualistic thinking might be the most devious of all pitfalls the human psyche can create primarily because it is so unexpected. As he predicted I'd never given a moment of thought to the idea despite finding examples ever present in my daily life. Case in point:
"I'm not a concept person. I'm better at implementing somebody else's plan once it's been made."
"I've never been one for math. I prefer art, music and language oriented studies."
"Creativity is not my strong suit. I prefer more analytical pursuits."
Any accompanying contradiction in such thinking doesn't seem to eat into its effect. Dualistic thinking needn't make sense to survive; it works perfectly well in the absence of logic. Someone I know is fond of saying that the subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between right and wrong, it just records the most predominate messages and acts accordingly. If her theory is false there's no harm done. If it's true however...
Coaching the Artist Within is a primer for personal growth and creativity. Best of all no psychological subterfuge is employed in the delivery of its message; no Freudian-like analysis of the underbelly of its readers is necessary in order for them to put the concepts to good (and immediate) use. Maisel's writing expresses a respectful understanding of artistic anxiety without coddling or handholding, employing practicality and reverie in equal measure:
"Every creator is dreaming, but using the actual stuff of life, the formulas of chemistry, the lightness of feathers, the pliability of clay. Without a dream, the clay just sits there. Without the clay, the imagined jar holds no water...The dreamer rejects reality, the realist rejects the dream, the artist embraces both dream and reality...In your art and in your creative life, you uphold the dream and you respect reality. On a day that is too real, you remind yourself, `I have a dream!' On a day that is too idle, you remind yourself, `Get real!'...Since dreaming and reality-testing are both needed to fulfill your mission, both are moral imperatives." (Pgs. 177, 178)
If there is only one gift to be gleaned from Coaching the Artist Within it is this: Eric Maisel allows that creativity is a principle by which to live. By using the phrase "moral imperatives" he creates permission for artists to honor and feed their passions with legitimacy and gusto - supported from within by a strong framework of certainty that not to do so would be to starve a living thing, encouraging its death.

I think this book should have a place in the library of any aspiring or seasoned entrepreneur. If you're demotivated, uninspired and/or discouraged, and you want to recharge your batteries or reconnect with your entrepreneurial spirit, then this is the book to read. However, if you're looking for a blueprint for entrepreneurial success, then in my opinion, you'll need another book in addition to this one.

I was greatly disappointed with this book. I saw Jack Canfield on a TV show and he stated the all the stories went through a very thorough vetting process and only the most inspirational ones made the book.Well if this is true then the vetting committe needs to look up the meaning of the word inspirational. I felt this book was just thrown together with stories that were held together with the barest of threads , I feel there are much better books out there to find real inspiration in.

A great book written by a combination of Entrepreneurs themselves, and authors to whom they told their stories. The stories are short - allowing the inclusion of many - of all kinds, sizes, phases of development, and types of "lessons learned", as well as place for you to write your own notes and reminders. You will want to go back to many (their websites are provided with brief comments at the end of each chapter)- so do not borrow your copy to friends! The excitement, the challenges, and the "I-can-not-possibly-want-to-do-anything-else" of Entrepreneurship comes through strongly. Learn, Enjoy, and get inspired!

This is a succint and comprehensive guide to understanding how self-esteem is developed and how it can be enhanced. The authors examine the impact of developmental, cultural and religious attitudes and of media influences on a woman's ability to accept and appreciate herself. They also offer specific, practical advice on how to address the various difficulties that arise as a result of low self-esteem. This is a valuable book, thoughtful and well-researched.
It's impact will last years.

I picked up this book over ten years ago. It really helped me to change the lens with which I view myself. Today I recomend it to the clients I work with. I find that it helps women deal with issues of self esteem in simple yet effective manner. It has excercises that are easy to do and have great results in changing how women view themselves. I highly recomend this for any women struggling with issues of depression, anxiety and or self esteem.

Although I enjoyed the majority of the book, I was quite annoyed with the constant blaming of "male dominated" society and culture. Although it is true that society and culture plays a role in a woman's self-esteem, I found that the authors spent too much time blaming men for women's problems. I am a little disappointed in the book!
Good book...but it could do without the heavy amount of feminism.

This is a great way to bring The Power Of Now to work. The cards come in a display box that has a little easel built in to it. You choose a card to fit into the easel, where it sits nice and secure-it can't fall out.
You'll want to read or listen to The Power of Now first, however. These cards are just a brief excerpt of the masterwork.

This is a most beautiful deck of inspirational quotes from Eckhart Tolle who continues to bring us the most simple yet Divine message of the power, peace, joy and fulfillment we can attain, when we enter into NOW.
I love just pulling out a card at random, because the message always helps me to remember to stay centered, and as a result, it has only added benefit to my life. The cards are sturdy, on high quality stock, and can always make a great gift to anyone who is frazzled, or wants to simply learn from the wonderful messages the cards offer. Highly Recommended! When we are rooted in Being we need no more pointers to guide us to self realization. Yet with that said, if we still feel that we are not completely aware of are true Identity these cards can awaken us by allowing the words to penetrate beyond the thoughts that keep us trapped in fear. They will do their job if we will allow them to, and even that is not quite right. Consciousness will transform us when we surrender to what is, no matter what the situation, condition or life challenge we may face. When we no longer resist what is we are free. Use everything, including these meditation cards to bring you to pure awareness.

The timeless Presence of which I am reminded, and at times drop into, from reading these cards is priceless. Picking one at "random" always points at what I need to hear, to contemplate, in that moment. What a gift!

Creating true peace is one of those books that you can read with time. No need to hurry. The entire book radiates serenity, as do all Thich Nhat Hanh's books anyway.
I especially admire his simple ways of confronting us with our behavior, and his encouragements to evaluate the way we treat ourselves and those around us.
Mindfulness is a simple concept, yet so easy to deviate from in our daily activities. Reading this and other books from Thich Nhat Hanh helps you to refocus on the things that are really important.
A strong work for those who seek tranquility in a hectic society.

Thich Nhat Hanh was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. He guides the reader of this new book how to go about getting rid of the violence he holds inside. As in his book, ANGER, he tells how anger and unhappiness can consume you. Violence is an outmoded response we can no longer afford politically and in daily life with family and friends (we usually tend to lash out and hurt the people we love the most).
Walking can calm our feelings and help us recover out peace. Walk to release your anger and pain. It calms negative feelings, helps you to get in touch with positive elements within and around you. Walking outdoors increases our happiness, peace, and harmony.
He tells us that we can each make a difference by being compassionate and not overbearing toward others; we are not helpless by any means. In our community, where the bigwigs hold sway and money is everything, we need to seek peace but not accept repression. Each individual is precious in God's grace -- I hope Tristan had a peaceful transition. He was a good-looking young man.
We can all work on inner change in personal lives, but global changes are in the hands of politicians, the leaders. So many are inexperienced and unsuited to lead anybody; others are corrupt. As in the movie, 'Kingdom of Heaven,' we will have to hope that God is on our side.

The best feature of this book is the emphasis it makes on being present and mindful in a relationship, especially relationships with loved ones. It is true that authentic peace begins with the individual, and can only be present when the "ego," the "me" in all of its separatist activities is absent. I think it was misleading to suggest that both ego and peace can coexist, since the very nature of the undeveloped self is to behave in divisive fashion. Thich Nhat Hanh speaks from the Buddhist tradition, and like all spiritual traditions, it can only take one so far. A great teacher once said that an ounce of falsehood can spoil a thousand pounds of truth, and although this book is well-intentioned, I believe it is of limited value. If you have a family, then by all means, read it, but for consistent truth, I suggest reading Eckhart Tolle's, Power of Now, and/or exploring the many great works of Guy Finley and J. Krishnamurti. Once the ego has been transcended, there is no longer a need to "cultivate" anything because true peace will emanate naturally from being.
Overstates his case IMHO

I began working on the poison of anger and obtained books & a video to help, including this book, "Working with Anger" by Thubten Chodron, & the video "Good Medicine" by Pema Chodron (about Tonglen & Atisha's Lojong Slogans). I had read 1 Thich Nhat Hanh (& heard a public speech), no Thubten Chodron, but several Pema Chodron works before this. I found both Chodron's works quite helpful, but not "Creating True Peace." Later, I read TNH's book on "Anger" which seems a bit better--I must have a very different Myers-Briggs than TNH. While only a Buddha knows what people need, I don't think we should wait to put Bodhichitta into practice (e.g. Tonglen)--learn by doing and dissolve the barrier between subject & object. I disagree with p. 25: "If you do not know how to handle the anger and violence in yourself, it is impossible to help someone else."
p. 59: "We should not try to help others in an effort to escape our own sorrow, despair or inner conflict. If you are not peaceful and solid enough inside yourself, your contributions will not be useful." IMHO de-focusing one's problems by focusing one others' problems can help both; one can work on oneself & help others.
IMO, he communicates a SE Asian perspective--not readily transplantable to the West (per Jung's comments). Also, this book is full of complaints, judgments, & criticisms of the West & devalues science & progress. This seems one-sided to me. I agree that Peace is achieved through the transformation of individuals: the 100th Monkey Principle says that when a critical mass of beings embrace something, it spreads rapidly through the whole, as does Malcolm Gladwell's "Tipping Point." TNH says on p. 16: "When we hold back our feelings and ignore our pain, we are committing violence against ourselves...do not make war on our feelings or reject them, but just recognize, embrace, and transform them. When anger or fear is present in us, we bring awareness to it. We smile to it and call it by its true name." There's truth here, but not the whole truth. Buddhist psychologist Anita Barron also viewed TNH's take on anger as simplistic in Marianne Dresser's "Buddhist Women on the Edge," & Robert Moore's Warrior archetype, in "The Warrior Within," includes purposeful pain & suffering--such as Tenzin Palmo's experiences in retreat (see "Cave in the Snow" & "Reflections on a Mountain Lake"). IMHO TNH has some good points but goes too far (e.g. he appears to imply that mindfulness breathing will solve everything) & projects a limited & extreme leftist orientation. I prefer Tonglen, the middle way, & the nuns Chodron.

I cannot praise this book or author enough. It and he are truly inspirational.
Thich Nhat Hanh is an incredible teacher who writes clearly and provides personal short stories as examples to leave the reader with lucid understanding of the message of placing yourself in the other person's shoes. Listening, speaking kindly, and taking the time to become calm, and to mindfully resolve suffering and conflict in a peaceful and lasting manner.
He encourages us to practice Mindfulness meditation and to inter-be and create a special safe room in your homes as a sanctuary for peace, calmness, mindfulness, and resolution of conflict.
On page 172 in the author's own words, he says:
"We need to look deeply to see what we are now doing with our lives. We let individualism prevail in the twentieth century, and frankly we have made a mess out of it. We must begin anew for the twenty first century; we need a new different direction. We can no longer continue to destroy ourselves and the planet we live on. With determination we can abandon the cult of individualism and the self, and act and live in harmony in the spirit of interbeing.
The sangha, the spiritual community, is our new direction, and sangha building is the noblest task we have before us. To build a sangha, we have to learn to open ourselves to each other and to share our experiences, insights, time, and love. The sangha must be our refuge for all of us in this new century."
This author spends absolutely no time trying to convert anyone to his religion. Instead he spends his life promoting non-violent co-existence methods and a vision of appreciation of the miracle of all life.
This is a book of hope and understanding. Buy it now and you will be so happy that you did.
