this book is well written and puts alot of fears to rest. i find that your expectations highly affect what you experience
and this book keeps you in a good frame of mind. this was the first book to get my friend "OUT" and she cherishes this book.
i have a special attachment to another book because it was the first to get me "out", even though this robert peterson book
is a better, more well rounded book. i highly reccommend this book, actually i just let a few people borrow it, they love
it.

Wow! Its very cool that Bob Peterson and Charles Tart have written a book together. I feel a kinship with Bob even though
I have never met him and never read his books, because both my and his books on OBE were out in cyberspace at about the same
time. Charles Tart is, of course, a legend.
Anyway, if you want to learn about this stuff and not pay for it, read my book DO_OBE. If you google it you can find a copy.

Ha! f--king immortals who would have ever guessed? this book was written in a way by which the average human can gain
valuable insight. written in simple language.
The author reminds me of myself quite a bit, as far as initially being fearful and shocked by the concept of us, humans beings, possesing like a secret 3rd eye which would allows for us to see things and go to places simply by concentrating & adjusting our vibrations.
My reflections after reading:
1. I realized that alot of the things in the Bible, Koran, etc are very much valid. its just that the old scriptures are written in 2000 year old language. The idea of different religions is something like an exaggeration & lead by fanatics who dont realize that everyone is right.
2. Most fanatics are driven by one thing..."fear". Fear truly is the mind killer! my experience has helped me to embrace a more logical belief. There should be a human religion as we are all connected!
We should not fear each other.
This book will bring you 1 step closer to what we really "REALLY" are....1 step closer 2 truth.

This is an interesting book to read, BUT, Robert Monroe's books, especially the first (Journeys Out Of the Body) and third
(Ultimate Journey) are better, in my opinion -- especially if you are looking for a method.
Robert Monroe had more, deeper, and better-understood OOBE's. Peterson definitely got out there, but his insights were not as good. I think some of his interpretations may be just plain erroneous. Also, Peterson often had a lot of trouble getting out. It's clear from his list of exercises for developing consciousness and getting OOB that he has a particular mindset or mental type which is different from Monroe's (and from mine). It doesn't have to be that hard to "get out," so Peterson is probably experiencing doubts, fears, ambivalence. Or maybe he has a different astral er, "constitution"?
That said, there are different flavors of ice cream for a reason, and for some people Peterson might be just the right one. I did like the way he included material about working, riding the bus to work, etc. which brought the whole body of material "down to earth", made it more believable, and showed the reader how Peterson fit into the everyday world.

This is Lesley's second book and well worth the purchase. So many ideas and information, very much like Quilted Memories,
but oriented toward making books. It covers: tools needed, fabric usage, book binding methods, etc. There are so many wonderful
examples of books made from many types of "fabric" like interfacing and other spun polyester materials, which is really inspirational.
I took Lesley's class on making fabric books and this book is the perfect source for remembering and using what I learned.
But, you don't need to take her class, all the information you need is right here. Many other artists also contributed work
to the book and their efforts are really fun to see. Buy the book soon, you will go back to it often for inspiration and study.

I have a lot of books similar to this one, but was surprised to find some new and different ideas in it. I don't know how
many times I've bought a book in this genre and wish I hadn't. Not so this time. I think it is well presented and written,
good examples and some ideas I had not thought of and will probably actually use! So I would certainly recommend it if you've
been thinking about playing around with fabric books and journals.

I'm French and had the chance to "speak" with the author through emails. It's a wonderful person and her book is also great.
I just wanted to say I prefered her first book because there was more about Mix media, and I'm more "in the painting" than
"in the Fabrics", but for people who love working with fabrics, it's a great source of inspiration. This books deserves to
be read and kept in every home. I certainly don't regret to have bought it.
And I feel so lucky to be able to read English, I would have missed so much otherwise ! We are waiting for your next book, Lesley, I'm sure it will be great too. Yael from Paris

Writing Begins with the Breath is a joy to read, and the meditation exercises are wonderful and revealing. Writers don't always
write because they want to, but because they must. The author captures what many writers experience within themselves, even
if they never intend to publish a single poem, short story or book.1001 Ways to Market Your Books, Sixth Edition (1001 Ways

I am a self-taught writer. Almost forty years have flown by, but I still recall the day I triumphantly placed my first newspaper article, thick with white-out, on the editor's desk. Through sheer desperation and force of will, I managed to turn my messy pages into a sparkling published masterpiece --or so it looked to me!
Writing a book is a long, arduous journey. You will need friendly helping hands along the way. This book is one of those helping hands. It will help assure that your writing sees the light of day.
Destiny dropped this book in my lap just in the nick of time, as I am about to embark on a very personal writing adventure. When I saw the title, "Writing Begins with the Breath," for me, a yogi-writer, it was love at first sight! I thought to myself, "Just what I need!" And I was right.
Before reading the book, I visited Laraine Herring's web site. She is an award winning author and a master teacher of creative writing. She teaches workshops which use writing as a tool for healing. This book is sprinkled with lively anecdotes from her experiences as both student and teacher.
As I leaf through the book to write this review, I see underlined sentences on almost every page. "Writing Begins with the Breath" compliments the other books that encourage me down the writing path: Brenda Ueland's "If You Want to Write," Natalie Goldberg's "Writing Down the Bones," Deena Metzger's "Writing for Your Life," just to name a few.
Part One, entitled "Focusing the Mind," opens with a chapter called "Risk." Herring recalls how the memoirist Michael Datcher was giving a seminar where he discussed the element of personal risk. A writer must ask herself, "What are you willing to risk to tell your stories?" She goes on to say that Datcher implied that "If we played it safe, hedged our bets, we were doing a disservice to our art. He wanted us to metaphorically slice ourselves open and see what oozed out."
In Part Two, Laraine Herring takes us into the "Deep Writing Process." Here I felt her leap out of the page and shake her finger at me like some strict English teacher. "When you don't pay attention to how scenes are sculpted, how point of view works, or how best to punctuate your sentences, the result is sloppy writing. Your inattention to detail is disrespectful to your reader and your art."
Part Three, "Embracing What and Where You Are" explores that state when you've just finished your book, and the process of letting go. Here the author reminds us that "Everything that begins, ends...Working with impermanence will deepen your writing practice."
Herring ends each chapter with "Touchstones," imaginative exercises to inspire and discipline your own deep writing practice.
The final chapter, "Stillness," brings us to a resting place, the Savasana of writing practice. Seasoned yogis may find the guidance here quite basic, but it's important to remember that the art of letting go is essential to the writing process. Here Herring quotes her yoga teacher, "The world can turn without your help for just a moment."
This spirited guide to the craft of writing has given me the tools I need to turn my messy, rambling journals into a sparkling published memoir! Thank you Laraine!!

Laraine Herring's book is about the "being" aspect of writing, not just the brain-centered "doing." The practice she describes
is "deep writing," and Herring encourages readers to stop long enough to discover what that is. You may already know about
craft, grammar, and storytelling. If you don't know about the "how-to", I say start with this book to get in touch with the
process (opposed to the product). Herring is a gentle and wise guide through the process of opening your mind and heart to
the world and your work with wonder and awe.
"Deep writing comes from our bodies, from our breath, and from our ability to remain solid in the places that scare us," Herring says. The term also refers to the connection or pathway we cultivate between our heads and our bodies. Herring offers breath and body exercises throughout the book to help readers find the space between the inhalation and exhalation where deep writing lives. That place, she says, is "between the doing and the dreaming, our place of power, of mystery, and of authenticity."
Part I is about "Focusing the Mind" and begins with a chapter on "risk." From my own experience, I know there needs to be some urgency in a piece of work to keep me going. There must be something I need to uncover. Herring describes writing as "passion and discovery." How true! She ends each chapter with "touchstones," which are lively prompts for your own deep writing practice.
From the one-word chapter titles of Part One such as risk, authenticity, humility, curiosity, empathy, acceptance, and relationship, Herring moves on to Part Two and "The Deep Writing Process." The section begins with "Self-Awareness." This is a pre-writing stage of asking yourself why you write or don't write. In her chapter called "Process vs. Product", Herring says writing is not a task to be accomplished; rather, it is a relationship to be nurtured and cultivated throughout our lives. I think that is the most important aspect of this book--that writing and all forms of creativity really become a continual process of uncovering with the constant practice of showing up.
Herring is a writer of fiction and non-fiction and has experienced what she writes about. Along the way, she shares anecdotes from that experience, some of which is from the classroom as she has been both student and teacher. I especially enjoyed her touchstones at the end of the chapter called "Shadow-Boxing." Most of them are about your creative work and what themes emerge in it. Herring makes many references to novel writing. When she gets to Part Three, she helps readers get in touch with that state of having finished writing a novel. This is a place of being in between projects and involves a process of letting go.
Writing is a sedentary practice, or has been until now. The many "body breaks" Herring offers for calming, imagining, and letting go are constant reminders to come back to the breath and an awareness of the body where so many of our stories live.

I'd guess the most difficult book to write is one meant to tell other writers how to write. Laraine
Herring has succeeded in writing a book for every writer's bedside table.
Beginning with the belief that your body's cells hold memory, stories, and experiences, creative
writer/teacher Laraine Herring wants every writer to write authentically. What is authentic writing?
Different for each writer - you know it when you read it.
Using story, advice, clues, and exercises, she leads writers deeper into writing. Her yoga exercises
(this is not Rodney Yee's or Patricia Walden's yoga) teach simple breathing, standing, and relaxing
techniques to allow gentle connections within your body to assist your writing process and allow your
characters to speak.
On every page Laraine's words float, flow, tumble, and surprise as she talks to you, her student, her
friend, and fellow writer. Yes, she takes risks and opens veins; Laraine practices what she teaches.
"Writing Begins with the Breath" is an important book for writers. But don't take my word; Natalie
Goldberg's publisher chose to publish it.

who have not dealt with end of life issues. It is an excellent support tool for those who grieve. Graceful passages embraces
diversity of different faith practices in the messages that it uses to teach.

Graceful Passages is a book and CD with wonderfully spiritual passages from many different cultures and beliefs. Men and
Women, each on their own differnt journey help me understand the different paths we are all on and that as birth is the beginning,
death is the end - but of only this life as we now know it. And that is OK. It is not to be feared as in western society.
It is normal and natural and being prepared, and understanding it, guides us to making decisions about our death that are
thoughtful, purposeful and with meaning. I have given this gift with love to friends who are in their dying process and it
has been received well. I highly recommend listening to the words quietly and and allow the compassion to come through to
your heart.

While I think this would benefit anyone, it is most meaningful at the end of life. I brought it to my grandmother when she
finally admitted she was dying - she fought off leukemia and pnemonia for years. She lay on the couch and I on the love seat
as we listened and tears streamed down our faces. I will never forget that day. This CD helps create a ritual of death, a
significant send off. It is the variety of perspectives that is so appealing as well as the poignant manner in which they
are presented.

This is a well written book about the game of women's soccer. There are a lot of practical advice as well as several diagrams
and plays for success on the soccer field. I would highly recommend this book for coaches as well as others who would like
to learn about competitive soccer.

I came across this book while searching for books on sports psychology and motivation. I coach boys lacrosse, but after reading
a few excerpts, I knew that Coach Dorrance had some interesting ideas and I bought the book. Even though he focuses on soccer
and women's soccer in particular, his ideas and observations apply to any team sport and were facinating and very helpful.
His approach to fitness, practice, and competition were especially thought provoking, and while seemingly simple, have shown
great results. Good read and highly recommended for coaches of all sports.

I have given this book to many people when they learn of a new diagnosis of cancer. It was given to me 7 years ago when I
had lung cancer.
When I opened its pages, I felt like I had found somebody who knew what I was feeling and had written it down. My feelings were now validated. And they were validated with hope. "Hope" was the theme through out the book.
The title says it all.

"Soon after I created the first images, I began receiving information about the significance of these holographic and geometrical
visions. This information was delivered intuitively, and I was told that I was receiving it from the Arcturians--highly intelligent
entities from another dimension. These entities exist in a different yet parallel frequency, and communicate with our intuitive
senses rather than through written language." - From the Sacred Geometry study guide
From Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man to crop circles, nautilus shells to Egyptian pyramids, patterns involving sacred geometry permeate our world. Even sunflower seed heads, pinecones and growth patterns in trees reflect nature's fractals. The organizing principle of sacred geometry spans architecture, paintings, Sanskrit poetry, and even musical compositions.
During the Harmonic Concordance of 2003, Dutch graphic designer Janosh heard the call to meditate for worldwide peace. This was unusual, considering the artist was not at all interested in spiritual topics or meditation at the time.
Several days later, he began to have visions of transparent energies captured in three-dimensional form and began reproduce them through is art. After posting the artwork on his website, he received surprising feedback: apparently, the images were identical to crop circles...a phenomenon he'd of course heard of, but never pondered nor studied.
In the innovative Sacred Geometry kit published by Sounds True, Janosh incorporates a variety of materials designed to help individuals embody and experience the messages of sacred geometry, including a 33-card deck, a pad of 100 tracing papers, soft cover 89-page study guide, specialized 80-page hardcover journal and a pencil.
The breathtaking cards measure 6 ¼ x 4 ¼ inches, with one side showing an explosion of vibrant hues imbuing pearlescent spheres, shimmering lines, and mesmerizing spirals with kaleidoscopic wonder. The other side of the cards depicts a keyword and geometric patterns of squares, lines and circles called "energetic silver codes".
The combinations of multi-color holograms with the codes are called Keys "because they unlock potentials that already exist inside of us". Janosh calls this collection the Keys of the Arcturians.
This box set, which has an easy-open magnetic lid, also comes with a relaxing hour-long musical CD by neuropsychologist John Consemulder, as well as small portable easel for displaying a particular card for meditation or oracular insight. The 8-track CD, featuring vocals by popular Dutch DJ/MC Renske Skills, provides a wonderful backdrop for tracing the silver codes, contemplating the cards, or playing on its own.
The study guide explains four ways to use the Sacred Geometry set: as an intuitive oracle, an intentional oracle, for subliminal messages, tracing codes and self-inquiry with the Sacred Geometry journal. The hardcover journal details a fascinating and accessible process for selecting a "Key of the Week", as well as a "Support Key" and "Question of the Week".
The unique journal provides spaces to record these Keyes, as well as your weekly reflection. Arguably the most interesting part of the Sacred Geometry journal is the section delineating each day of the week where you record a reminder (something that happened that day), your feeling, and +/- to circle if your overall mood for the day (positive or negative). This helps you keep track of your week, especially in light of the Keys you've drawn or are meditating upon.
I've had great success with the Sacred Geometry kit and recommend it highly. I particularly enjoy tracing the silver keys, especially since carpal tunnel prevents me from coloring mandalas. I find tracing the keys even more relaxing and centering than coloring mandalas, and much quicker to do.
My husband is fascinated with the images from the deck, and my 9-year old son uses the easel for displaying a card when he does his homework. A "Crystal" child with a sensitive system, my son sometimes resists certain exercises during homeschooling, and his chosen cards seem have a positive affect on him.
If you're interested in sacred geometry, holograms, fractal art and tactile meditation tools, the Sacred Geometry kit from Sounds True would be perfect for yourself--as well as a gift for those you love.

to all but it is fun.

This guy really has it figured out. For me, this book effectively crystallized all the new age (I wish I could find a better
term) teachings that I've gleaned from other sources - it was a great refresher course. He is very readable and presents
himself as a fellow spiritual traveller rather than some superior enlighted being (many dislike the superior tone in Eckart
Tolle's books). I would give it five stars but for two reasons: I would have liked a little more sharing of his personal
stories (they are there, but too few and too brief) and the contradiction in stating that "..if someone really knows the Truth,
they are eager to share it" with charging $2000 for his week-long workshop.

I so like this book. I finished 80+ pages already. I have read a lot of Zen philosophy, have experience with spiritual type
books including Eckhar Tolle's books. What I like about Alan Cohen is that he shows how people come from nothing are like
nothing and become greatness in a way, and that greatness is not exactly as we think it is.... It comes from our inner world.
We don't need to arrive at some time in the future, to have that dream job, dream husband or wife, we are precious already.

The book is easy to read, can be taken in short bites or read in large chunks, but all of the chapters affirm life, love and
the beauty of the human experience. I read this book at my father's hospital bedside for ten days, and it made the long days
bearable. It's a book I'll keep on my "daily" shelf to read over and over again.

This book is an excellent collection of positive quotes. Particularly useful is that the book is divided into Parts (Peace
of Mind, Living One Day At A Time, Preparing For Success, Knowing What To Do, Overcoming Negatives And Uncertainties, Making
Dreams Come True), and then sub-parts within those parts (such as acceptance, happiness, prayer, self-confidence, the past,
the present, this moment, hope, role models, change, decisions, realistic expectations, fear, worry, risks, courage, success,
commitment, just do the footwork then let it go, perseverance, failures and mistakes, the advantages of adversity, reacting
to events, etc.). Within every Part are anywhere from five to seventeen sub-parts, and within every sub-part are anywhere
from several to numerous quotes. These divisions are very useful when looking for quotes that pertain to a particular topic.
The quotes come from a wide diversity of people and time periods, making this a rich source from which to find and choose
quotes that fit an individual's present circumstances and can provide encouragement and motivation in those circumstances.
With 704 pages of actual quotes, it provides a wealth of quotes to peruse. What I appreciate about this book is that it's
not comprised of simply "cheery platitudes," but instead contains many thought-provoking and motivating quotes. This is the
best quote book I've come across yet.

This is where I am with the OBE issue....
I figured I'd weigh in on this book.
In other reviews I had stated I was raised Catholic but had more or less given up on Christianity and other religions as a source of knowledge about the next world.
I decided to go looking for myself. Being a big fan of the movie Flatliners, I was wondering if this OBE thing could be accomplished with out actually stopping your heart.
A little internet research led me to this book and one other which I will also review.
The book really is an amazing read.
He gives great tips on how to accomplish the experience and what to expect.
Like other reviewers I found myself lucid dreaming and being able to sway and partially get in and out of my body within a few weeks. But it literally took me over a year to overcome the fear factor and actually leave my body.
I titled my review, "Be Warned".
Why?
Because the author was right, one you force the experience you can't stop it.
I would say in the last ten years I have had hundreds if not more OBE's.
I went looking for answers, I didn't find any.
OBE's are NOT NDE's (Near Death Experiences)
There is no white tunnel waiting for you to enter.
There is no garden of tranquility waiting for you.
Nor were there any flames or demons.
What did I see?
It's difficult to put into words exactly..........
The author claims to have experienced some very incredible things, and who am I to say he's lying.
Everyone I've told has told me, you were asleep or imagining it.
There really isn't anything I could do to convince them otherwise, I was as awake during the actual experience as I am during my real waking state.
What did I see?
LOL, my bedroom and the downstairs of my house. I tried an experiment by moving a lamp while out of body.
As soon as I reentered, I saw the lamp had NOT been moved.
This leads me to believe when you are out of body; you are seeing the spiritual side of the real world, a mirror image if you will.
I haven't had any contact with any otherworldly beings, positive or negative. Whatever celestial secrets are out there, the angels and demons are keeping their celestial mouths shut.
Like I said, I started this looking for answers and found none. The experience itself is VERY difficult to control. You vision is either clear as can be or extremely distorted and unfocused. I don't remember if it's the author of this book who says to "demand clear vision" while out of body and it will happen. I tried that, DIDN'T WORK!!!!.
I did look down at my arm while out of body and what I saw was beautiful. It was like an outline of an arm with millions of little blue lights inside of it. I also have looked at my bed on numerous occasions and the only thing I have ever seen was a blank bed with the indentations of a body laying on it.
I've never had any scary encounters but my experiences are really never that long, if you so much as think of your body, ZAP your right back in it. I've never been in any kind of fear of possession, I've seen the "silver cord" that is mentioned in the book and it's very real. Nothing can take your body without your permission I don't care what the fundamentalist's say. Your soul has a claim on your body, period.
I've never had an experience that has lasted long enough for me to actually venture out of the house so I can't comment further on that.
I guess I can't wait for some comments from people. Have any of your experiences been the same as mine?
I started doing this looking for answers, religion and the occult gave me none.
OBE's gave me none.
If you're bound and determined to do this, then it's at your own risk.
Like I said, once you force the experience, you CANNOT stop it from happening again.
It doesn't seem to happen at night when I go to sleep, but if I lay down to take a nap in the afternoon forget it.
I'm in and out constantly. There is however a school of thought that says a part of us leaves every time we go to sleep. I'm inclined to believe that, maybe I'm just not recalling the experiences during my nighttime slumber.
Again folks, be careful, if you aren't mentally ready for this then don't do it.
If you're bound and determined to do it, then it's at your own risk.
Whether or not you find any answers to your questions will depend on.............don't ask me, it seems the universe is content to withhold any otherworldly information from me, oh well.
Take care.
