I enjoyed this book -- part 2 of a 7 part series on systematic theology. Bloesch represents a "progressive evangelical" approach and sees inerrancy limited to the overall intention of Scripture. I would have appreciated a greater discussion of the Warfield/Hodge approach to Scripture. While Bloesch argues that Scripture does not teach historical inerrancy, Warfield makes a good case that it does -- based on Scripture's own teaching. Bloesch should spend a little more time on traditional arguments. There is just too much concern with Barth, Brunner, Bultmann (a whole chapter!), etc.

This is one of the best books i have ever read!!!!!!!!! Especially on those that are hurting. It is balanced and its as if the writer knows exactly what you are going through. Anyone who struggles with depression should read this book. The author is so real and honest and her heart so true. i just gave this book to a girl who went into rehab. i gave her mine because i didnt have time to get another one. it was VERY hard to give up, but i knew that it would really help her. i am now looking to buy another one. this is not a book you read once. its a great book to refer back to over and over.

The Heartache No One Sees opened my eyes and helped me dig past the mask that I wear in order for others to think well of me. Instead of hiding behind a everything-is-fine mask, Sheila Walsh encourages us to be open to God's redemptive work, to be realistic about the needs that we have and to reach out to others who are also hurting and hiding. Sheila is a real person and very easy to get to know through her writing. I am so thankful for God's work through this book!
Blessings shared!!

Sheila is a blessing from God and has used her life to minister to those hurting. It's a blessing blessing others. Wonderful book that will touch any woman's heart with so many practical and easy to see examples that we can use and relate to in our own lives, even those of us not on TV or with WOF or in the public eye. She is down to earth and honest and gives/shows HOPE with lots of practical questions at the end to ask yourself and think and pray about!

I have read countless books on finding Mr.Right - but after 5 years of singlehood, Enchanted Love is the ONLY book that managed to cut through all the self-help jargon and pierce my very soul. Marianne's words and affirmations gave me a new perspective regarding the search for love - and the meaning of love - and totally changed my approach towards dating. I was in tears as I read some chapters, but because of this book, I learned to stop some heart-wrenching patterns in my love life. Things have changed drastically for me (for the better) and now I constantly lend this book to my single/heartbroken friends. Read this book. It truly is enhanting.

MS WILLIAMSON HAD A SLOW START BUT WARMED UP VERY QUICKLY. SHE GAVE A LOT OF INSIGHT ON GETTING OVER PAST HURTS AND BECOMING WHO YOU REALLY ARE. THANKS TO HER, I REALIZED HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO PREPARE FOR A RELATIONSHIP BEFORE I ACTUALLY HAVE ONE (I'VE BEEN DIVORCED 3 TIMES). I EXPERIENCED A VERY DEEP SENSE OF SERENITY THROUGH HER STRONG BUT GENTLE SPIRIT.
I HAVE ANOTHER OF HER BOOKS ON THE WAY AND CAN'T WAIT UNTIL IT ARRIVES.
DON'T LIKE BOOKS ON AUDIO SO I RETURNED THE CD IN EXCHANGE FOR THE BOOK.

Marianne Williamson makes some important points about how love, and relationships in particular, can help us in our spiritual growth. Relationships, whether we see them as negative or positive experiences in our lives, teach us a lot about ourselves. And isn't this what life is all about?
Lots of heart-felt statements on the state of romance but ..

Williamson really can put her pen to task with heart-touching words woven to get your heart stirring. Enchanted Love is quite the achivement of a literary celebration of mystical love thanks to insipirations from Marianne's interpretations of A Course in Miracles. Although the content is endearing I must ask the question ... why is Williamson preaching such lovely tones of enchanted romance ... and not achieving it herself. the proof is in the pudding. No one is perfect but if you're looking for love advice, ask Joanne Woodward or another successfully married woman who been with her best pal a long time through ups and downs. Would you ever get diet advice from someone who is obese or still walking around at least 10 pounds overweight? Williamson openly admits that numerous men have left her, she is a single mother, and was apparently once married for under 6 months years ago. She may be a true warrior in the love and romance trenches but if her whole life is dedicated to L-O-V-E ... why does she attract but not hold the romantic love she finds? Enchanted Love makes for beautful prose but that's about it. The material is very fantastical at times with lyrical verbage but if you're seeking romantic results in your favor ... keep seeking elsewhere. Enjoy this book for what it can provide because it is positive. If you want to access advice from someone who writes about love and is successful in love ... try Drs. Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks. They have been married over 22 years and have used their marriage as a testing ground for conscious relationships. The Hendricks must be doing soemthing right because they are still together with children and grandchildren to boot.

I am now reading this book for the second time and I love it just as much now as I did the first go around. Marianne Williamson really understands how spiritual contact with a Higher Power influences and shapes the kinds of love we initiate and sustain in our lives. I particularly like the way she describes the relationship dynamics between men and women in the midst of intimate relationships and just how much spiritual work needs to be done. The prayers that she intersperses through the book are beautiful and moving.
As for those who try and insult her work just because she hasn't been married to 'Joe Schmoe' for 25 years with a whole troop of kids and grandkids...might I remind those that true love does not always take the traditional conventional route. Some of the greatest loves of my life have been men I never married and never would, the real point is that they were all still worthwhile and valid experiences that contributed to my growth and knowledge as a person. Also just because someone manages to stay married for 25 years in no way means that relationship is healthy, happy or worth emulating.
With that being said this book has to be one of her more underrated works yet in my opinion I found it to be the most poignant and moving. It has definitely deepened my emotional and spiritual capacity to feel and accept love into my life.

This is not a bad book, however I think it is written more along physical than emotional lines, i.e. it suggests a high-fibre diet of at least 35 grams a day and a balanced diet focussing on typical fruits, veggies, etc. Some exercise. But nothing along behavioural lines. For me any long-lasting programme has to start with a very deep-rooted motivation where the will to follow a healthy diet outweighs the compulsion to eat. If the book does not address that compulsion to eat, it can only be a tool, not a programme.
I am however impressed with the product range she has created and am hoping to try out her shakes. She is obviously doing well financially and I cannot help but feel a little exploited when she gives statistics on the billions that are being raked in on products, services and programmes for people who want to loose weight. Obviously she landed in the right business.
I did learn something about fiber in the diet, but in general the book did nothing to motivate me along "wow" lines.
For example: the statement that in order to loose weight, you need to use less calories. Think there is more to losing weight than just less calories. At the very basic level it requires a major overhaul of perception and attitude, training of behaviour, fundamental lifestyle changes, and yes diet as a tool. So as a tool the book is not too bad. Once I have got my attitude straightened out with wanting to loose weight more than giving up on compulsive eating, then yes, her programme may have a good place in my life. Am going to invest in the shakes.

I am new to the whole organic/herbal thing. This book is the right information for me at the right time. I began this "diet" before receiving the book (I read the first 3 chapters in the book store) and am completely satisfied! I feel better and am losing weight. She shares her knowledge in a way that someone as new to all of this as me can understand.

I am very happy with this book. I was more interested in improving my nutrition rather than weight loss. It is informative and an easy read. But in addition to this, it provides a lot of practical information: fiber content in different foods; recipes and sample meal plans. It couldn't be easier to follow.

I enjoyed the information. I am already doing weight training, cardio, and 6 meals a day as Tom Venuto recommends at www.burnthefat.com . I bought some fiber choice fiber wafers at Sam's Club for cheap and I eat a few Kashi Bars each day. I am up to 40 grams a day of fiber and it does help keep everything regular.
I watched her video on PBS.

Thin people know fiber does help you lose weight. Diabetics know that they need fiber along with fruits. No more juice, eat the fruit with the fiber in it or blend it in a blender. Fiber slows down the glycemic load, or to say another way... it slows down the sugar in your body and doesn't spike it. That's hard on everyone especially diabetics. Fiber is a bit of a carb blocker, but it is natural and doesn't have the other bad effects that carb blockers may prove to have in the future. This book also explains how eating often every 2-3 hours tiny meals with fiber will help rev. up the metabolism. Who can't use that! Get more fiber. It is easy. So many products on the market. And get rid of the overprocessed carbs. the bad ones. The white breads, white rices etc. This book will help you understand how fiber helps everyone.

This is a very inspiration work which helps bring the highly paradoxical and often incomprehensible philosophy of nondualism or Advaita Vedanta down to every day life. Nondual religions like Zen or Hindu Advaita or Dzogchen are perhaps the highest expressions of human religious intelligence, but the teaching that "everything is consciousness" or "any effort to get it takes your further away," or "there is nothing to achieve," can leave the average person (I count myself as one) a bit lost--- especially if you don't have the good fortune to be around a realized nondualist teacher. That's where the book comes in-- in a market flooded with New Age books which often boil down to how use the universe to satisfy your ego wants, this a book that points the way to true satisfaction. It gives good, "practical," if I may use that word, guidance to achieving a state of non-achieving. It's a nice "how to" book for the path in which there is no "how to." It points us to that paradoxical space wherein we must make a total committment to allow things to happen without making any effort. The personal anecdotes sometimes go on a bit too long to make their points, but the author's life and healing are impressive enough to make her approach credible,...actually incredible (in the positive sense of that word, meaning miraculous).

Many of spend our whole lives searching. Perhaps, we are trying to find that something that will make us good enough, perfect, or worthy of love. Still, it seems that the more effort we put into the search, the less we actually seem to find.
What if we already had everything we needed to be whole? What if the entire time we had been searching for just that right job, the perfect spouse, that right dogma, or the ultimate therapist we had already had all the tools we needed. What if we found out that all that energy we spent running away from our feelings, our natural inclinations, and our flaws was actually making our journey more difficult? What if we found out that we could make a change right here and now and for the rest of our lives?
Freedom Is explores these and many other life changing notions. Based upon the popular Journeywork, the author explores effortless being; nonattachment; present-moment awareness, honoring and reverence; emotions, gratitude, love, forgiveness, and enlightenment.
I thought the material in Freedom Is was well presented and approachable. I felt extremely safe in the hands of the author as I began to explore some very personal, deeply hidden, and potentially scary issues. Moreover, after completing the book, I felt strong enough to carry what I had learned into my real life. One thing I do suggest though is that you also purchase the CD that accompanies this book. It will make the meditations and exercises a whole lot easier to accomplish without having to try to create your own.

Brandon Bays' bestseller THE JOURNEY has received much attention, and her latest spiritual growth guide FREEDOM IS: LIBERATING YOUR BOUNDLESS POTENTIAL promises the same, providing an overview of freedom as it relates to daily living. Unlike most titles on the topic it's not about freedom - it's about experiencing the feeling. Chapters provide case histories of master/student interactions and examples and plenty of first-person reflections from the author's own seminars and experiences.

This wonderful book will not provide a quick fix or easy answers. It is a book meant to be read slowly, tasted and savoured - and, if you want to get the most out of it, roll up your sleeves and be prepared to follow the guidance given to discover the things that are really holding you back. Keep it next to your bed. This book gives you the tools (for only whatever you pay for it) that otherwise you'll pay thousands for at Journey Seminars (that said, the Seminars are priceless). If you are not ready to face who you really are (and you're great!) then don't buy this book.

This is one of those books that you can't put down. I'm not a big reader, nor am I big in to martial arts, however the principles in this book really apply to everyday life.
It immediately changed the way I analyze situations. There are many small details that anyone can use to change something if that is something they want to.
I have read this book a few times, mainly looking for something else to apply to life.

This is another one of those "It does what it says on the label" type books. You'll not want to put it down once you've started.
The book is arranged into many small one to three page chapters about a subject e.g. "Pacing Yourself" or "Identifying Your Priorities", then followed by a page or two on Meditations about how you might achieve what has been discussed then one page of "Resolutions" on suggested promises you should make to yourself to carry out the task at hand.
Written in a nice easy flowing & interesting manner which urges you on to want to just read one more chapter before you put it down.
Although the topics discussed immediately relate to Budo (Martial Arts), all of them can equally be applied to everyday living without little or any adaptation.

The humble author takes the readers for a wonderful journey into spirituality and enlightenment. The gist of the book is that small acts to mercy can and do change the world. Even a seemingly insignificant change as picking up a lost earthworm in wee hours of the morning so that it does not get trampled upon later during the day, can ignite a spark and change the world for good. My life has been forever touched and my spiritual eyes have been opened. I have moved over to the other side, so as to speak, the side of more spiritual and less material. Two other unforgettable books by Mr Hartmann, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight and Unequal Protection. Get them, read them, distribute among friends and loved ones.

All the noble platitudes expressed in this book represent nothing more than empty rhetoric if the principles it advocates for are violated. If words are not embodied by actions, then the words are nothing more than lies, despite the actual outcomes they convey. It is disheartening that the extent of events written about in this book has shaped a life inimical to the very principles it reports.
I felt after reading this book that it somehow uplifted me and changed me. In light of all that has transpired in the many years that I first read this book, I can report now that I've grown up, and what I believed about the book, and the author then, no longer holds true. Sometimes we need to grow up before we can let go, and move on. Sometimes we need to let die fantasies of our own belief about nobility, goodness, and integrity, to understand that the world simply does not function or work that way, despite the platitudes of nobility. Whatever nobility this book contained, I no longer see the world through a lens of hope; while I will never personally subscribe to the values of consumption, I recognize that is the guiding principle for most people. It took a while to wake up and see the real world for what it is and the people who make a substantial living off of the spirituality for sale movement.

This book will be a welcome sojourn for those dealing with any disillusion over religious systems. Hartmann's spiritual journey has been as unique as anyone's, and thinking believers will find abundant encouragement here relating to their doubts and struggles.
This is the same Thom Hartmann who has recently written extensively about democracy and the threats to it. We learn in this book that it's his spiritual journey that's brought him to the study. I first read "Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight," then "Unequal Protection," and this present book is the most refreshing and reassuring of all of them, as well as bringing together issues about the world in a spiritual context.
I'm now struggling with how spiritual growth and social action are related, and this read has helped. I've been working to integrate insights from John Perkins, Daniel Quinn, James Howard Kunstler, David C. Korten, and others into a worldview that makes sense of the question, "So now what?"
Hartmann's "Prophet's Way" has brought me back to the issues basic to all such decisions and helped sort through the others. The way of peace and brotherhood is infinitely more than a stock phrase. It's a way of life that we can, one by one, step into with full confidence that millions taking such a step will transform the world.

I was VERY inspired and uplifted by his book "last hours of
ancient sunlight". This book didn't do much more me, it was
sort of a spiritual biography and it's a little too woo-woo
for me, I'm not comfortable with the far edges of
religion/mysticism. I guess I was mildly inspired, but I
came away with an impression of me having nothing at all in
common with the author.

This book was wonderful. It was very spiritual. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone. The pictures are beautiful. I use this book all the time and keep close to my bed in my room. It helps you make your prayers to God, spirit guides, and angels. It is wonderful. Buy it, you will love it. It is short and sweet and to the point just like Sylivia Browne.

I bought this book for a friend. She had read one of Sylvia's books and had enjoyed it immensely. Especially the part with the affirmations, prayers, and candles. She said that it brought her an inner peace. I had a similar experience with a candle. I was so distraught one night and a friend of mine had suggested lighting a white candle. I did and was immediately calmed. Many religions utilize candles in their ceremonies and rituals. It is thought to bring God and spirits of our loved ones who have passed, closer to us because they don't respond to artificial light. I can't tell you that it is a cure all or if it is just your mind trying to except what you are feeling. What I can say is that it has brought comfort and joy to my friend and myself.
No big deal, but could maybe make an okay gift...

This book was disappointing. I was assuming it would have much more instruction, ideas, examples, and prayers in it. But it's not very wordy at all. It's small in size, as well as content.
The one nice thing about it though is that the pages are full of nice quality color photos and there are nice thoughts and words sprinkled throughout. On that note, it could possibly make an okay gift to give someone who could use a little inspiration or good wishes in their life. It is a very "pretty" book.
But it just lacks the information and content.
I still have mine and may pass it on to someone sometime if a loved one ever seems to need a little extra lift in their spirit. But that's about it.

I don't think it flows or reads well...I think the intent is good.

Lateral thinking is right-brain processing. de Bono didnt invent anything new.
I'm a de Bono fan going back to 1968 and his book NEW THINK. But since 1972, or so, all de Bono does is repackage NEW THINK and sell it to new converts and acolytes.

A Rhodes scholar, medical doctor, university professor, worldwide consultant and inventor of "lateral thinking," the actually precursor of what we have come to label as "out-of-the-box-thinking," renaissance man Edward de Bono, tells us in this book, how creative thinking is done and how it is to be put to good use in solving the most intractable problems facing mankind.
As in most of his other books, he uses his medical training to first explain the mechanics of brain functioning -- showing how perception is the natural and simple behavior of self-organizing neural networks in the brain and how the way these networks organize affect the way we think (or fail to think), plan, organize and solve (or fail to solve) both large and small problems.
What is different about this book, is that here he takes on as a challenge the problem of how to help erase a kind of mental laziness from the problem-solving context that results in an almost complete reliance on absolutes, that is in a complete reliance on black and white thinking; on binary logic, as in what can only be called the "dichotomy trap."
Although he does not single out the U.S. as the Western World's most egregious practitioner of this kind of "last resort thought process," it is safe to say that anyone who observes U.S. politics and approaches to social and political problem-solving, even for a minute, cannot come away without feeling that we Americans are the world champions of "black and white thinking." Almost every aspect of our lives are sliced and diced into finely grated black and white categories: our race problem, our politics, our religion, and economics just to name the most obvious of them -- all suffer from binary thinking in absolutes of only black and whites - seldom in grays. As a nation, we seem satisfied with our utter lack of reliance on anything near creative thinking to solve the problems that face us as a nation.
de Bono shows us the route to a new paradigm of thinking: as he sees that with global problems crowding in on us, failing to change and failing to begin to adopt new more creative ways of thinking and solving these deep and intractable problems, increasingly is ceasing to be a discretionary option. Sooner, rather than later we will have no option but to give up our almost total reliance on absolutes, and begin to deal in "grays." That is what this book attempts to do: teach us that the brain is more comfortable thinking in "grays," and that many of the solutions to the problems facing us as a nation and as a world, lie in this realm of creative thought. In is a somewhat vain but very sober attempt to shake us out of our comfort zone. The same thing that de Bono has been doing in the corporate boardrooms for the better part of a half century.
Five stars.

Understanding Thinking and Breaking Paradigms

This book opened a lot of doors in my mind that I've been trying to get through for a long time.
This book is a great mix of topics that helped me gain a different understanding (several mental models are proposed in the book that offer a mental paradigm shift) of the relationship of emotion to thought to psychology, philosophy, belief, truth, etc. and helped me gain a historical and cultural understanding of the belief structures I have working in my life.
In this book, De Bono proposes that critical thinking is powerful, but less than perfect, if it is the only thinking we use. He proposes that Critical/Rational thinking as developed by Socrates/Plato has provided the means for our technological success today, but has also blocked our progress as humans because it is only one kind of thinking (black or white, right or wrong). There are other ways of thinking and when they are used in conjunction with rational thought we have a better chance at improving our human interaction and the world we live in.
I have a true, good friend who recommended this book. I had asked him for his opinion on why I feel the need to "evangelize" other people. "Why do I feel this need to convince other people that my beliefs are correct and that theirs are somehow flawed if they don't match mine exactly?" I've observed how this practice has had poor effects in my own life and also how similar practices have not had good effects in the world e.g. War, Politics, Religion, etc. On a technical level we've made all kinds of progress, yet on a social level we are still acting like cavemen!
So, anyway, this year I've been studying motivation, behavior, psychology, belief, various religions, etc. attempting to understand myself and how/why I interact with other people in the way I do even though I know my confrontational approach is less than Ideal. This book gave me some breakthrough thinking on this subject and I'm still sorting through the debris of my former beliefs on human motivation as a result. This is why I feel like I will give this book 5 stars in a few months after I've had a chance to study it more. Right now, I'm wondering if I've been logically tricked...
One thing is for sure, I didn't "get" De Bono's 6 Hats until reading this book. I bought "SIX THINKING HATS" at the same time I bought "I'M RIGHT, YOU'RE WRONG" and it seems like these two books together offer practical approaches to revolutionize our thinking patterns and improve our human interactions.
Do these ideas result in practical change and improvement for myself and world I live in? I will need to report on this later. As a intellectually stimulating book I give it 5 stars. For pragmatism, I give it 3 because I haven't tested it yet. So, for today, I give it 4 stars overall.
Note: This was not an easy book to read. It seemed like de Bono took forever to get to his points. In fact, at one point, I skipped a few chapters and then found I had to go back and make them up. His teaching seems so simple in hindsight! But de Bono is building a logical argument throughout the book and while it seems like he is taking too long to get to his points, the points are WORTH IT! This is NOT a book on practical tools. He has written other books about practical tools (of which he reminds you quite often). This book provides a foundation on which to develop practical solutions.

I agree with Daniel Crew of Nashville. This book has a few gem in it but it takes too much effort to dig them out. Dont get me wrong, I think highly of De Bono's thinking tools but this book failed to deliver against the expectations he never stop building up through out the entire book. AND he came across as a really insecure person because he constantly need to give himself credit for ideas he has already established as 'his' - which is irritating.
He did a pretty good job of explaining why the current system of thinking is archaic but he failed to explain in a simple and clear manner the solution that he is proposing - that is because he only made references to them - you wont find them in the book, you need to go out and buy more of his books to learn about those methodologies.
So, this book ended up sounding like a really long brochure on why you need to use his thinking tools and methodology. Save yourself the time and money. Just go out and buy Six Thinking Hats and the other books. He does a pretty good job in explaininig why the tools work and why you need them there again.
