THE KINGDOM COMES IN POWER

This book is the first of many written by Bill Johnson which is bringing light to the Church and the World. Jesus told us how to pray - Thy kingdom come Thy Will Be Done on the Earth as it is in Heaven............
The church which has become irrelevant in todays society because it is filled with doctrines of men and demons is coming together in unity.
When we as the church come together in unity God pours out his Spirit and His blessings upon us. This book is a great starting point to see this come about and bring what God desires to this earth - Healing -Deliverance and Freedom to his creation.

Are you a bystander or are you with the crew?

This will move and shake you if you think the church is dead, or if you are discouraged that most truly are disoriented and legalistic. There is still a body of believers who press forward toward God's own mission in the first place, and He is invited into their lives to rest on, and work the works that make the Good News such good news. God is alive and He is showing Himself available to all who would press forward and ask for more of Him. That's what this book is about. Ushering and welcoming God to invade our kingdom, and He is winning.

An annoited man!!!!

This is a very spirit filled book. I love that Bill doesn't try to have all the answers, instead he does the opposite. GOd is so big and so wonderous and so awesome we'll never have him figured out. If you are looking for a spirit moving book, here it is.

I am currently on page 45 of this book, and into my eighth page of notes outlining the terrible exegesis, fallacious lines of reasoning and dangerous rhetoric better suited to a motivational speaker. I can only conclude at this point that the only people who will find edification in this book are those people who buy into any nice-sounding "theology," or already believe the assertions that Johnson states as fact, rather than proving out of the Bible.

As some other reviewers have mentioned, Johnson tends to use scriptures that describe (self-admittedly) mysterious and complex topics (e.g. the Kingdom of God, Worship, the presence of God, etc.) to support his particular bent of theology. If he were to actually make a well though-out case for his assertions, that would be one thing, but instead he bookends these statements with words like "obviously" and "it is apparent" to silence any discussion in the matter.

Also, Johnson routinely follows poor lines of reasoning, as seen in this following excerpt (p. 45):

"Faith lives within the revealed will of God. When I have misconceptions of who He is and what He is like, my faith is restricted by those misconceptions. For example, if I believe that God allows sickness in order to build character, I'll not have confidence praying in most situations where healing is needed."

So what Johnson is saying, if I could re-organize his thoughts, is that 1) God never allows sickness to build character, and presumably not for any other reason, 2) every situation where sickness is present is intended to end in healing, and 3) the confidence of the person praying directly influences the effectiveness of the prayer. This is bad reasoning, and each of those three points contains room for discussion out of the scriptures.

Additionally, he overuses commas and italicized text.
Pass on this one.

The name of the book says it all. This is an amazing book...sets out clearly what to do and what not to do to give you the life you want. It is simple to understand and an easy read. It has certainly changed the way I think and feel..as soon as I start to feel 'down' I immediately change my thought pattern. It makes you realise why things have happened in your life and why they have not. It is certainly worth buying and having in your bookshelf so you can refer back to it.
I give it *****

"The Law Of Attraction" by Esther & Jerry Hicks is a great book!!!

What I like most in 'The Law of Attraction' is the idea that we were born with desires & dreams originating in our previous lifetimes. As a result in this lifetime we were born into environments that will assist us in bringing our dreams into reality.

Therefore 'work with what is' & go with the flow, since somewhere in your environment is the key that will lead you toward manifestation of your desires. There is no need to struggle against the current or try to go upstream, since what you really want isn't upstream.

'The Law Of Attraction' is a must read, highly inspiring!

Even better together with 'Nexus' by Morrison & Singh, a New Energy Novel that delves deeply into the personal transformational journeys of a fascinating group of characters. Deep, spiritual, true to life (joys, sorrows, challenges, success) & inspiring. Share in the light!

Would give it 0 stars if I could

This is just yet ANOTHER book filled with false promises. God warns about how deceitful Satan is and how keenly he manipulates unsuspecting people who are innocently trying to find some truth in their lives. Without a solid foundation of the Bible, I could easily be deceived by these books and cds too - they all sound so great.

Don't be conned. It's exactly what Satan is out to do, by veiling himself as caring spirits. It's so easy to get sucked in. Remember, he's the Father of Lies.

You don't need this crap. You don't need Satan or his lies. You don't need these con-artists taking your money and eventually, your souls. Be strong. The more you consider Jesus as your Savior, the more resistance you'll get. That's no coincidence. Think Satan wants his followers to believe in Jesus? Don't follow that coward.

This CD is a joke. It is Esther Hicks talking in a fake voice pretending to be some "channeled entity" named Abraham. She is off her rocker. I am all for the law of attraction but this is just a sham. AND it's REALLY annoying to listen to. I basically coudn't even get through it. What a waste of money. Unless you want to listen to a crazy lady ramble on in a fake voice, don't buy this.

This book is well written and easy to understand. The explanation of how the various parts of the brain and how to get your brain working for you was very good. An easy read that doesn't require a psychology degree to understand the material and how to use it. I have used some of the described exercises to help my clients envision their future the way they desire it to be.
I recommend this book highly!!!!

I'm someone who spent years stuck in a rut. I spent a lot of time wondering why I never got anything done but never did anything beyond wondering. I've spent the last few years turning my entire life around. I quit drinking, quit smoking, started working out, started taking my job seriously (which has garnered me two promotions in three years), and generally started taking charge of my life and I've found that I love getting up and getting to it every day. Something I never could have claimed before in my 30+ years. A lot of these changes have been hard work. I've read a LOT of self help material and found hidden gems here and there. I only wish I had found THIS book years earlier. Everything I've learned. Everything I've known. It's help me put all of that into action. Have you ever run across a situation where you KNOW you could teach the world how to do something but you just CAN'T do it yourself? Well, this is the book for you. I'm on my second time reading it and I just bought three more copies, bringing my total purchased to eight. I've given them away to a lot of the people I kind of left behind when I started changing my old life. Even the ones who don't read are reading it. I've seen weight loss, better jobs, less stress, less anger, reduced drinking, happier relationships... all as a result of things myself and these people have learned through the steps in this book.

If you find yourself in a rut and just can't seem to move forward. Or even if you're doing fine and think you might just need a little push. This book is a priceless work.

Thanks to the author and good luck to everyone else who reads it!

Not a bad book at all. The author has done a superb job in approaching the bad habit problems we humans have developed over our lifetime into another way of thinking about it. I think if you are like most people and have tried everything out there including reading various books on goal setting this one might be worth trying. It has helped me, I'm not completely there yet but I feel I am at least on the right path.

You will certainly gain something significant from this book if you have an open mind. It has truly and profoundly changed my life in incredibly positive ways, and with instant results. I am definitely going to share ideas from this book with the class I teach on overcoming self-doubt and increasing self-confidence and compassion. I thank Shakti for sharing these illuminating ideas.

Although I certainly haven't yet mastered the techniques, I now have tools that I can use to cultivate peace of mind, compassion, and inner happiness.

Recently I picked up my copy of Creative Visualization and noted that I had written four big goals in March 2003 onto pages in the back of the book. By October 2004, I realized that three of the four goals were already complete and the fourth is still ongoing. I was so impressed with this that I have written two more big goals into the back of the book and I will order her Creative Visualization Workbook to enhance this experience. I don't know how it works, nor, according to Gawain, do we have to know -- just let the Universe manifest the details ... and it does. Easy to read; easy to understand. Shakti Gawain teaches, like the Buddha, with an "open hand" and no "secrets" held back.

I was given this book about fifteen years ago. Little did I know that it would change my life. Reading Shakti Gawain's words opened something between myself and a Higher Source. Creative Visualizations is responsible for my enlightenment to come to me, which has enabled me to put my own book out, The Spoken Words of Spirit: Lessons From The Other Side. If it wasn't for my introduction to Gawain's book, and being taught how to see or communicate with Spirit, I don't think my life would have transformed to such a positive path.

This CD set is taken from a series of classes given by Pema Chodron to help us to understand that we can have some control over the thoughts and emotions that enter our minds. Although meditation is the primary tool used by Buddhists to be become of aware of and work with thoughts and emotions, the information given by Pema Chodron is not specific to meditation. We all have trouble dealing with our emotions at times, and these teachings help us to see what it is that we are dealing with and offers advise on how to deal with our emotions. I don't meditate, but I found the information to be very useful and I believe it can be of benefit to everyone. Pema Chodron speaks in a very accessable manner and uses stories and humor to illustrate her teachings, making it very easy to listen to these CD's. I can't imagine that anyone would not appreciate hearing them--I've listened to them several times. I highly recommend this set.

They are very meaningful, helpful, realistic, understandable and practical.

This is actually a good book. However, this method's results are negligable at best; and otherwise seriously depressing. If you read half of this book, you'll likely be left with a feeling that you have too many suppressed negative feelings to overcome in one lifetime. The author says to welcome the feeling, then ask yourself if you're willing to let go, and then if you are, ask yourself whem. Then supposedly the negative feeling is released forever. What a crock of garbage.

I bought this book because I wanted to get over my rupture with my ex-girlfriend. It has really good reviews and I thought it was a safe bet to try it. Wrong choice.

First I have to say that I had some results, but they were inconsistent. I would get a mild relief from the sadness and anxiety, but 10 minutes later it would come back.

I tried all their tricks. Letting go of the feeling, letting go of wanting the feeling, diving in, welcoming the feeling, letting go of the basic want. Nothing worked as they said. Only, sometimes (not always), a temporary mild relief.

I tried letting go of resistances. In that area, no results at all.

In the light of all the good reviews and the success stories peppered through the book, maybe I am not normal or I am wrongly applying the method. However, I doubt it. The method is so simple that you cannot not apply it right.

Buy this book if you want, maybe you are going to have more success than I had.

I am often referred to at my church as the irreverent reverend. I say things that shock people. Things like "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is he who just comes..." Most people laugh. Maybe it's out of nervousness, I don't know, but I really, really, really think that God has just an incredible sense of humor and I really, really, really think that anyone who does "God's Work" must also have a sense of humor. Kinduv like that old joke:

Why do angels have wings?

Because they take themselves lightly.

I've always enjoyed Neale Donald Walsch's books. He's very presumptious about a lot of things. He basically says that all who are reading this book (Happier Than God) caused it to happen.

What?

You caused it to happen. You. You had an impulse and you acted on that impulse. And not only did you cause this book to appear in your life, but you have caused everything that is in your life at this very moment to appear in your life...including me. And guess what? I caused you to appear in my life, as well.

Of course, this is a book by a man who "claimed" to have had more than a few Conversations with God....

Blasphemer!
Heretic!
Liar!

Brave is what I would call him.

He is challenging which is exactly why one should read him. Like I said, I've read his books since the very beginning and no matter how many times I read his stuff I get new insights. Not because Neale is giving them to me, but because, once again, I caused it to happen. I was ready for it.

What's that great line from Henry the V?

All things be ready if the mind be so.

Some people aren't ready for this kind of stuff. It doesn't mean that one is stupid or ignorant or foolish, they're just not ready for it. A lot of people weren't ready for what Jesus had to say, either. I'm not comparing Neale Donald Walsch to Jesus by any means, but just like the quote he uses from George Bernard Shaw:

All great truths start as blasphemies.

We'd like to say that if we were in Jesus' time or Buddha's time or Socrates time, we follow them anywhere to learn from them. But would we? We like to cling to our old beliefs, our ideas, our opinions. That's why our lives don't seem to change very much --- because we don't change!

He says "We do not need God for anything." Now before you get your knickers in a bunch, he states in the next page (if you stll have the book in your hands), "Not needing God is not the same as not having any use for God..."

And then he quotes scripture, which I agree with some of the reviewers in that he should've cited the passage, "I am with you always, even until the end of time..." (Matthew 28:20)

Do we believe this? No, we don't...but people, that's a promise straight from Scripture. We aren't alone in this. In Truth we are all-one in this.
Being happy, feeling fulfilled, experiencing joy doesn't come from everyone believing exactly the same thing. That would be so dull. Real Joy...being really happy comes from letting people be who they need to be.

There are a lot of people who walk around as if their underwear were on backwards. Come on, people...lighten up. Like that really old joke,

Why do dogs lick themselves?
Because they can...

You can be happy because God created you that way already.

Peace & Blessings,
john, 'the Light Coach'

Congrads and special thanks to Azim and Harvey for giving us a deeper understanding and reminding how powerful GIVING and sharing is. The Power of Giving has helped me solidly in 2 areas:

1) It gives a wider definition of giving and envisioned me for learning to give beyond money. When I think of all the opportunities of giving I have throughout my daily life, I started living more fullfiling days. There are so many opportunities everyday for giving a smile, a compliment, valuable knowledge...Giving and sharing, thus serving, helping each other is part of purpose. It's great to be reminded this and shown the way.

2) I have read so many books on personal development, self-help etc. Of course it is vital to know what you want in life, learning to manage your thoughts, thinking positive, keeping a high motivation etc. But very few books talks about the actual POWER of giving. Giving truely creates a POWER within, it makes you feel more abundant, more connected, definetly much better.

This book is both inspirational and practical! I grew up listening to the motto "the more you give, the more you have" but despite this being ingrained in me from an early age, the act of giving can sometimes be a struggle. This book gives you options on how you can give (it doesn't have to be money) and reminds you of the benefits of giving (which are more vast than the obvious ones that come to mind). The anecdotes are touching and set the mood for wanting to give! Whether you are an individual (young or old) or an organization (big or small), this book is both a useful and pleasurable read and will cultivate your spirit of giving. It can even serve as a great gift as a gesture of your gratitude to someone who has given something to you! Can you tell I've read the book!?! ... and I plan to read it a few more times!

"When you read this book, you find yourself pausing to remember holy pieces of yourself and a human relationship with divinity. I found the book delightfully rich which encourages us to seek the deeper meaning that make up a human life. It is a powerful book that radiates compassion and a willingness to take the risk of uncovering one's humanness"

What do you get when you put Deepak Chopra and Mike Meyers in the same room? A book full of laughs, gags, and punch lines that's punctuated with meaning and direction. While the character story for the first part of the book is interesting, it is Mr. Chopra's ability to show you the path of joy and optimism in clear understandable language that really shines. It's so enjoyable I re-read that section three times! In good times or bad this is worth the time and effort to read and enjoy!

Standard Chopra Themes, But Doesn't Work as Fiction

I picked up this book with high hopes. I generally like Chopra's work, although I am not a hard-core fan, and I love to laugh. I also believe humour is a key companion to spiritual growth - when you can laugh at yourself, you probably have hit on some self-truth. And Mike Myer's Foreword seemed to be heading in the right direction, quoting Lenny Bruce's equation for comedy as "laughter = pain + time", and noting that Chopra would call the 'plus time' detachment. Enlightenment and comedy share that in common.

Unfortunately Why is God Laughing? doesn't quite follow-through on its promise, although it has some nice moments. The main problem for me is that the book seems more like an outline, and a derivative one at that. It doesn't evoke any powerful emotions, because we don't have enough time with the main character, Mickey, to feel invested in him. The entire book feels rushed, more like a premise for hitting certain spiritual points, chapter by chapter. These points, or lessons, drive the book's progression more than the character's inner growth. This is often a problem when non-fiction writers cross over to fiction, but I thought Chopra had solved it after his last fiction effort, Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment (recently released in paperback, and which I highly recommend.)

Chopra's epilogue is interesting, as he lays out his own ideas on how to embrace joy and optimism while living in a scary, fear-based culture. If the story doesn't grab you, you can always jump straight to the epilogue for a good Chopra fix. The bottom line is, the themes of this book are true to his usual message, and clearly presented - it just doesn't work as a novel. So you probably won't be deeply disappointed, but you won't be deeply moved either. If you don't want to risk it, just buy Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment instead.

I consider myself a pretty enlightened person. This book helped me remember some fondamental points of life. Even though it wasn't rolling on the floor funny I did get a couple of chuckles from it. Some people are disillusioned in thinking this is meant to be enlightened standup comedy. The fact that a comedian can read this book and want to give a foreword to encourage others to read it is inspiring in itself. The story line keeps you interested and makes you re-examine your life and your stand on what you thought your life should be versus what others have told you it should be. Are you living your life for the experience itself or to appease the people around?

We used this book for a staff retreat, to get conversation going about ourselves and the college students with whom we work. A short read that staff won't groan about with limited time to complete it, funny and inspiring, thought-provoking as well. Recommend highly.

I was interested in reading this edited and longer version of a graduation speech by Ann Patchett because of her perceptive writing style in the novel Bel Canto. Her newest book reveals personal experiences that shaped her both as a writer and person. "What now?" is a useful book for recent college grads facing the challenges of turning their just-earned degree into a stepping stone to life -- a course that can't be taught in college -- and for parents who may not remember the "now what?" uncertainties graduates face. Patchett pays respect to those who influenced her, including a writing professor who encouraged his now famous student to almost completely rewrite the first draft of her speech, suggesting one of Patchett's life lessons is that we're never too old or accomplished to benefit from the wise counsel of others.

Thoght-provoking and contemplative

I really enjoyed this speech-turned-essay. So many wonderful morsels of wisdom to "chew on". She shares a few personal anecdotes, but does not make the speech about herself. It is inspiring and contemplative, encouraging her audience to look inward for happiness; and then sharing it with the world.

Because it was a commencement speech that she have at her alma mater, it is almost guaranteed that it will remind you of your college/university days. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything about the commencement speech at my college graduation, so I will keep this one in mind.

I see it becoming a bestseller gift around high school and college graduations in May and June of each year, alongside Dr. Seuss's "Oh, The Places You Will Go!"

Learning to stare at Fridays

Ann Patchett is one of my favorite authors. I loved her description in this book of how she discovered how to be one. Learning to stare figured into that and the now habit of staring also delayed her decision to get married for many years. "I just couldn't imagine living in a house with another person when so much of my life was spent sprawled across the sofa eyes wide open, saying nothing at all."

This book is short, but full of words to live by with thanks for those who have guided her way. It is delightfully highlighted with many photographs.
