I have no idea what these authors are trying to put across. They do spend a lot of time trying to put a scientific explanation to what an imagination is and giving the reader thier "occult expertise". The fact that one of the authors claims that astral projection is impossible to achieve at will implies that they are most likely one of Israel Regardies' "Cosmic Foo-Goos". The reader, if they take this work to heart, may come from the experience a less effectual person. It is sad that [garbage] like this gets sold and marketed when there is so much more valuable stuff out there.

Truly magical. This book comes under the heading of "I wish I had read this years ago". These two authors write seamlessly, you can hardly tell where one leaves off and another begins. They interact very well. On the theoretical side there is a wealth of knowledge to delve into and thimk about. This part alone kept me alternately reading and thinking for almost a week. I did not want to miss a word. Then I got to the practical side and had to keep re-reading paragraphs because I kept getting new insights.

All in all a remarkable book . I hope they write more. The combination of scientific and practical information is stunning, and so down to earth, unlike the airy fairy stuff that is published nowadays.

A brilliant text for the neophyte

I don't know what the other reviewers are complaining about, there are numerous texts on magic in print and many of them are for the more adept student (why not try Julius Evola's work), but I found this to be one book I recomment most highly to beginners. It covers the most important aspects of what is fundamental to all magical workings: concentration and visualization exercises. This book, in conjunction with Peter J. Carroll's Liber Null & Psychonaut, lay down the groundwork using semantics that are easy to grasp and not overly burdened with ritual, dogma, and other baggage from magic's past. Highly suggested.

Thorough survey of Thought Forms as well as a Complete Practice

This book is, in my opinion a treasure and offers a comprehensive study that would provide a newcomer to energy work and visualization enough food for thought and practice to carry them for quite a while. It is a program, a reference, and very complete. It is also indispensible to the seasoned practitioner as well; full of previously unheard anecdotes and ideas that will offer fresh material to those already informed about magical thought.

I disagree with others' criticism that book is too chatty and here is why: If you do know about the mind, you know that some parts of the mind learn and remember best when stories are used to facilitate. This book creates thoughtforms for you, to help you learn about thoughtforms, and it does so with interesting stories and histories thrown in as examples in-between practical work.

This is not a heavy reader, so don't let the other warnings of length deter you, it is enjoyable, easy to understand and still full of depth.

Here are some of the things you will learn about if you read this book:

The nature of astral matter, how it behaves and how you interact with it regularly, and how you can interact with it consciously to cause results.
Basic and easy instructions to complete advanced thought forms.
What it is like to visualize and create objects on the astral plane.
Methods for improving your skills at visualizing.
How to create astral dwellings.
How (and why) to dismiss a thought form once it's use is finished.

You might benefit from taking notes on the page numbers of any practices in the book that you want to try, though there are exercises listed separately in the appendices.

It's all in yer head!!!

If you've ever practiced magick and felt that there was maybe some minor detail missing from the experience, something more you could do to make it more effective, some secret that's been kept from you but you knew was just under your nose, this is the book for you!!! The exercises and ideas in this book will help you to realize your full potential! I'm not giving away any of the details of the book, but I am telling you that if you're serious about your art, then you should pick this up...If you learn just one single thing that's new, it'll be worth the price!!

Soul Wisdom, Mystical Mess
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-30
As someone who enjoys Brian Weiss, Stuart Wilde, even a little Neale Donald Walsch, my new age mysticism credentials aren't too shabby. But Soul Wisdom is a bit much for me.

The premises of the book are two:

1) There are souls in all things, guiding principles that make the universe work, and lessons life teaches us for which we ought to be grateful.

2) If we chant a number sequence in Chinese so fast that we're no longer coherent, we'll start speaking a mystical Soul Language that puts us in touch with the Divine.

The author should have stopped with point 1.

I don't doubt that there is a Divine. There may well be a way to get in touch with Him, Her or It. But I don't think chanting to the point of incoherence is the trick that everyone's missed till now. Yes, the chanting's fun - I did try it. But I think the peaceful feeling following comes because you've gotten the brain to disengage and aren't saying anything, not because you're suddenly channeling God. Most likely, this Soul Language is mild, self-induced hypnosis.

What's saddening, and maddening, is that this book does contain a lot of Soul Wisdom. The passages on gratitude for the ills life brings are sweetly hopeful, the discourses on the universality of souls are well worth thinking about. But the best of this book is buried beneath a pile of mysticism and "Divine Downloads" of the sophisticated fortune cookie variety.

Some of the reviewers have nothing but positive things to say, positing the author as a spiritual figure who has changed their lives and who will change the world. I'm glad they've had the experience and wish them all the best. But if I had a friend who was looking for a way to work through troubles and find new meaning and purpose, I'd be too concerned about the claims about Divine visits and Soul Language taking him or her further off course to recommend this. Better stick to Dyer and Chopra, or even The Secret.

Oh, brother.

Let me start off by telling you that I did NOT approach this book as a skeptic. Given the appropriate circumstances, I will be happy to tell you about my past lives, spirit contacts, the spiritual exploration I have been on for many years, even engage in speculation on the significance of December 21, 2012. So when Dr. Zhi Gang Sha offered Soul Wisdom, I was prepared to listen.

Before getting far into the book, there were many red flags. Sha talks of "power" and "treasures" (things far removed from wisdom), of "secret codes" (one of which looks like the zip code for Honolulu with '33' tacked on the front) and ridiculous phrases like "Divine Downloads" and "Divine Soul Transplant of Divine Golden Light Ball and Golden Liquid Spring of Divine Soul Language". We are told that "this is the first time in history that the Divine has released these soul secrets".

It soon becomes very obvious that Sha is not offering wisdom, but a form of religion. Portions of the book even resemble christian catechisms and chants in church hymnals. Sha tells us to chant nonsense syllables faster and faster until our pronunciation is slurred, and that's our soul language.

None of this is wisdom, it's just self-promoting obfuscation with rote and rituals that get in the way of actually thinking and learning.

I would call this book worse than a complete waste of time. While reading it, I repeatedly had the thought that if I had absolutely no respect for other people, I could write drivel like this and cash in, too. The idea that it is all about selling things and not about wisdom is supported by the catalog of things you can buy from Dr. Sha on the last few pages.

The "bonus" CD is not an audio CD, but contains a 14 minute MP3 file of very repetitious chant. It disturbed my kitten when I played it, and I don't blame him one bit.

ummm.... NO!

I cut my teeth on books dedicated to stretch us emotionally, mentally, spiritually. I was excited to hear what Dr. Gang Sha had to say. And I was truly disappointed.

I have strongly supported and cheered the holistic focus that has finally found its way to the mainstream. I have also watched a stream of New Age fluff find its way down that path as well. This book would fit into that category for me.

There are "downloads" that you can mentally Absorb. There is pretty langugage and not a great deal of substance. Although the credentials listed on the book sound quite impressive, I also have to realize they were written by someone paid to spin the book impressive.

Then I turn and look at the substantive work that people like Jon Kabat Zinn have done for thirty plus years and the clinical research that backs up their claims... and I think I will simply pass this fluff by for something with a little teeth.

Included in the book is also a CD. Wow. I'm not even sure how to describe my take on that. Going into the recycle bin!

This book isnt for everybody, but, does have some great interesting points on how to look at the world. The book works well with all religions and it comes with a great CD for listening. If anybody is looking for a book that has a "works well with others" type of book with all religions, then this is the book for you. Very good read and would be worth the price for those looking for spirit type healing.

Should be titled, "The Fine Art of Downloading"

I don't think I have ever read a book which recommended so many downloads to make me feel better or to improve my health - all at hefty expense to line the nice doctor's pockets. I have always found computers to be wonderful things ... now I can use mine to heal myself - Wow! Watch out credit cards ... here we go!

This book is interesting in concept, but does not come through in fact. I found it to be boring and touching on some sameness with other books written by this author.

I would not recommend this unless you are a fan of the author and want to complete your collection.

My sister adviced me to read this book. She almost reads everything she can find. But after I read it, we agreed on one point. This book gave us a view unforgettable for a lifetime. That is: when you have a relationship with someone, he/she absorbs the energy from you because the relation has its dynamics and balance. If you are on the heavier side, you absorb the energy.. That is something I can never forget.. Thanks James Redfield

In some way it helped me more appreciative of what I have now. The buttom line is that it was so hard to put this down for a break.

This book was so poorly written it was almost embarrassing to read. How on Earth did this crap get published? The literary community should do itself a favor and critically tear this book to shreds.

I give it two stars only because some of its ideas were interesting, though obviously hairbrained. I just...I just can't get over how terrible the writing was. Someone else mentioned it read like it was written by an eighth grader--I completely agree.

What's worse is that someone decided to turn it into a movie! No wonder it ended up getting 4% on [...].

Really, really bad. Really.

Well ... it didn't make me angry

Actually, my title should really be: "Well, it was better than The Mothman Prophecies'." (For the "why" see my review of that book.)

I have to admit, the ideas are interesting. Even some of the philosophies I agree with strongly. But there just seems to be a push for humanity to believe that we've evolved enough to harness the metaphysical energies of the Universe in the ways described in this novel.

And it is a novel ... some folks seem to forget that.

We are made up of the energy of said Universe ... but we are 3 dimensional beings. Yes, our evolution has sped up quite a bit over the last hundred thousand years, but to see non-visible energy, to vibrate our bodily energy beyond what it does normally ... it just doesn't jibe.

I guess I'm too much of a scientist to believe in the fantastical ... yes, "I want to believe" but practicality just kicks in and I'd rather spend my time and energy in Reality.

Having said that ... even when I removed the scientist (kicking and screaming) from the picture, the story didn't hold me. It was like reading a series of lectures tied together with a rather thin plot that seemed to think it was speeding along but slows to a creep when the lecturer starts again. So even when a grain of salt, I found this a bland experience.

Sad too ... there are some very important ideas in this book concerning the role of religion and self-determination in modern society.

Another helping hand for your journey

Review Date: 2008-06-26
This is a wonderfully enjoyable and inspiring book. And the biggest inspiration comes from realizing that EVERYONE loses his way; EVERYONE reaches a point when he doesn't have a clue how to proceed; and EVERYONE, if he listens, will be given direction on how to get back on track for a new and better path than before. The books that make the big difference in the lives of each chapter's authors may not touch you at all. Their epiphany very likely won't be your epiphany. No matter---the point is that the right book was sent to the right person at his most needful time. The well known saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will come" is exemplified and underlined in every single chapter. I don't know about you, fellow reader, but that gives me one heckuva lot of comfort, this indication that the Universe has each one of us on it's radar and stands ready to step in when needed with helping hand extended. Our job during the tough times is to keep listening to that inner voice and not toss in the towel because there's more good stuff to come.

Planning, writing, and promoting a book is hard work. It's very easy to wonder: "Is it worth it?" or "Will this book really make a difference?"

When faced with questions like the above, you'll want to reach for your copy of this book. It's a compilation of anecdotes and essays by a variety of successful individuals whose lives were changed by a book that they read. Contributors come from all walks of life; the only thing they have in common is that the turning point in their life was a book they read.

"You've Got To Read This Book!" is a "gratitude" book that provides a way for the contributors to express Thanks to the authors who changed their lives. This book can also change YOUR LIFE by inspiring you to continue writing a book that will have a similar effect upon your readers.

This is also a great guide to refer to if writer's block hits you while writing a book, and you need a reason to continue working on it (other than that you've already spent the advance!)

Not as good as I thought it would be.

FOR THOSE WHO GRIEVE, THIS BOOK CAN BE LIFE CHANGING

Review Date: 2008-04-18
I was given a copy of this book to read about 2 years ago, by a new friend whom I had just told about the death of my youngest daughter, eleven years earlier. Even after eleven years, any parent can tell you how the grief of losing a child is always a part of you, an empty hole in your soul. Even so, I had come to terms with my daughter's death and had moved on in life. So, when I was given this book, part of me was hopeful, while for the most part I was hesitant and extremely skeptical.
How can I begin to describe the "Omg, this makes sense" awakening I began to feel as I read page after page, chapter after chapter? This book changed my life - and that is an understatement! Reading Matthew became the catalyst for a series of sychronicities that led me down many intertwining roads in my own journey towards healing, spiritual enlightenment, my own purpose in life, and eventually the supreme joy of communicating with my own daughter.
To say that I highly recomend this book is also an understatement. I wish more people knew about this book, so I hope you'll all spread the word after reading it. It is a definitive must read for grieving parents and anyone else who has lost someone special in their life, or for those who ask, "Who am I, and why am I here?" (In fact, that was the one question I asked, that led to this book and everything else since).
I wish all of you a most remarkable and joyous journey of your own.

It has very detailed descriptions of the processes that take place after you die. I liked it so much that I ordered the next book in the series.

What a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to everyone interested in knowing what life "on the other side" is like. I admit I was skeptical at first. As I read Matthew's accounts of life on the other side I grew more amazed at his descriptions. Many things I had never even thought about were addressed fully in this book. Since we won't know until we actually get there I can only hope that life "on the other side" is how Matthew describes it in this book. What peace and joy it provides for those of us inquisitive enough to be looking for these answers. Special thanks to Suzanne for her committment to write this book and please know I have already ordered her second book "Revelations For A New Era".

Hi i just got this book last night as one of my graduation gifts from one of my many Aunts, she thought i would like it caues im planning on attending art school and she thought that this book would encourg me, and it has, even though i just got this book last night. I flip through the pages and i was so amazed at the drawings Mis.Engelbreit has created, she can take her own imagintion and child like expirence and make it come to life on paper. In this book It tells about her life and how she got started, It says that she started out drawing when she was 11 or younger and i belive it caues there is just to much passion in her work for it not to come from starting out in childhood. And her drawing are just mamerizing, I think every drawing she has ever made is in this one book. i mean you can look at this book for hours on end, i stayed up for hours last night just looking at the drawings alone. I think one of the reasons her art sells is becaues out of all the drawing that she has created someone can pick one and relate to it in one way or the other. This is the first book i own from her but it wont be the last. If you are looking for a sentamentle gift or just want a this wonderful book for yourself or LOVE Mary Engelbret's work and want to know about her and know how she got started then buy this book! It's worth every penny!!

This is a devotional that I would suggest for anyone looking to become closer to God and more like He wants us to be. The walk through this is absolutely amazing and has left me on my hands and knees with my face planted in the floor praying harder and longer than I think I have in a long time. If you want to feel and be closer to the Lord than this would be an excellent way to start.

I am so overjoyed that this book stood out to me and I chose to purchase it. I will read this 30 day walk with The Saviour many times over.

The best treatment of Biblical Inspiration

As the title suggests, this book is about the inspiration of the Bible. I. Howard Marshall, an evangelical Christian scholar, looks into this important Christian belief. In the opening pages, Marshall examines various views on the inspiration of the Bible, from total and complete inerrancy, to the belief that the Bible is inspired in the same way a good piece of literature is. While it is hard to figure out what view Marshall himself takes because he is so fair in his treatment of all views, I am sure that he views the Bible as the infallible word of God. This does not mean he thinks the Bible is inerrant however. He means that God divinely preserved all that he wanted us to know, and with the precision he wanted us to know it. So there are indeed some areas in the Bible that are unclear, and perhaps that is okay. Marshall is not a big fan of the divine dictator view that God simply told the writers what to write. Rather he believes that there was a concursive method. This means that the writers said what God wanted them to say, but by means of oral and literary traditions, and within the authors' own styles, rather than as a result of some type of divine trance.

Marshall asks many questions, such as "What Does the Bible say about its own inspiration?" and "How are we to interpret the Bible?" The book is made up of 125 pages of answers in plain English. Marshall's view may not harmonize with many people's view that the Bible is totally inerrant, and that there can be no error, whether historical or grammatical. However, I must say I found his treatment of the issue to be extremely relevant after I took a secular Bible course which emphasized the inconsistencies in the Bible. In a way Marshall helped me keep the faith after taking such a class. Don't think that Marshall obscures the facts. He does not twist anything to keep his theory from falling.

I must say I enjoy his writing style tremendously. I rarely became uninterested when reading this book. I wanted to find out what was on the next page, mainly because his answers were so important to me spiritually at the time. I would recommend this book for those who want a well thought out, and even-handed (Marshall presents the strengths and weaknesses of all popular theories of inspiration) treatment of the issue of Biblical Inspiration. Anybody can benefit from reading this book, even if he or she does not reach the same conclusions of the author.

A really great book. Dr. Harra provides us a very simple way to identify our soul code and determine which cycle we are in. The individual cycles allow us to make decisions about our future, tell us what to expect, which people are coming into our lives, and how to overcome obstacles.

The second half really provides valuable information about manifesting our goals. Dr. Harra, a licensed psychologist, teaches us about Harnessing the tools of our mind, Creating our own realities, and Overcoming fears.

Excellent book, excellent work! Take out your pencils!

Had already begun a simple course on numerology and was interested to compare the two findings, a little differant.
Carmen's version is very basic and is at the beginning of the book. In the second part, she uses examples of clients and their pesonal experiances to show you how the two are linked.
The final part is about Karma, what goes around comes around...
Very enlightning!

Very much enjoyed the reading of this book! Its a good read and interesting too. The material and examples make it easy to understand our human nature by our birthdate. Its all in the numbers! I was amazed looking back over the years and checking my personal numbers and finding those years matched exactly what was transpiring in my life! Carmen Harra's shows you what's in store by the numbers and you feel you are decoding your life. Quite fascinating!

I really enjoyed this book. It is a quick, fun, easy read, yet packed full of lots of information. Her writing style is warm and friendly, you will truly feel like you are sitting with her and enjoying a nice, long reading. The numerology section is a great intro to numerology, but the most interesting part is her predictions in the back! That is all I am gonna say. Buy it and enjoy.

This is the second book I have read by one of the most amazing metaphysical intuitives of our time, Carmen Harra (her first book being Everyday Karma). With her instructions I was able to calculate my soul code and learn to use the power that is within us all. One of the things I also love about Dr. Harra is the way she puts it all out there for us by printing her predictions and giving us her visions for the next 30 to 100 years! A must read for anyone interested in destiny. I am truly looking forward to her next book.

This book is fun!
My favorite story is "I Thought I was Over That"
Ariel and Shya are genius in a non-judmental seeing of how we are and don't
try to change, fix or make us better.
These stories give us compassion for ourselfs and I never, ever before
experienced Enlightment in such an easy, light way.

The Kanes have written a fun and inspiring book of stories that invite the reader to enter effortlessly into the brilliance of the present moment. These tales, that are at once humorous and touching, are filled with inspiration and enlightenment.

I find myself picking up this gem of a book whenever I want a connection into all that's possible in life. The beautiful thing is, I don't have to "do" anything to experience the richness of the moment. Transformation is a technology that the Kanes have discovered and share generously with all who want to experience the perfection of "now". If you're looking for magic, this is the real thing.

This is a great book written by modern sages Ariel and Shya Kane, shining lights of Presence in these (potentially) complicated times.

In a chapter called A Cluttered Desk is a Sign of Genius, Ariel talks in simple, straight-forward terms about finding well-being in the seemingly impossible task of keeping her desk clean. I responded to this immediately. I seem to live at a desk in perpetual disarray.

At Shya's (her husband's) prompting, Ariel slowed down at her desk work by no more than 5%, and actually spent a little bit of that slightly-decelerated time with each object on the desk. She gave each piece of paper its due attention, not long, and each piece of paper and the work it represented was completed. In doing so, she has kept the desk clean of clutter since. I have employed this strategy on my own desk, and have succeeded, not permanently, but often, and for longer spans of time each time.

The subtitle of this invaluable little storybook is Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, and it's very fitting. Ariel and Shya teach a technology called Instantaneous Transformation that takes everyday occurrences like a messy desk and transforms them into opportunities in the present moment (Now) for well-being, and yes, even enlightenment. Their other books go into great detail about this technology, and are just as quick, easy, illuminating reads. They are Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation and How To Create a Magical Relationship.

For anyone who's into Eckhart Tolle's books The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment, and A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose (Oprah's Book Club, Selection 61) (like I am,) I strongly recommend the Kanes and their books. You can learn more about the Kanes at www.TransformationMadeEASY.com. They are amazing teachers, dedicated to bringing well-being and enlightenment to normal people, and easily.

This is an astonishing book - beautiful, elegant, practical, and highly readable!

One of my favorite metaphors in this book is the idea of "backing out" of upsets.
The author's, Ariel and Shya Kane, suggest that upsets are in fact mechanical, and often based on ways we handled situations in early childhood - but that, with awareness, we can in fact 'catch' when we are on the slippery slope of an upset BEFORE we have to go all the way down that slope.

You can find yourself well down the road to upset and -without recrimination or judgement - just say to yourself 'oh - this is an upset' and BACK OUT, just like you might if you suddenly looked up and found yourself driving down a one way road the wrong way. You wouldn't keep driving the wrong way, you wouldn't sit there and tell yourself how horrible you are while traffic is coming at you - you would put on the brakes and back out.
Well that is exactly how they suggest you deal with an upset when you suddenly discover you are in the midst of one. To make the choice to back out instead of indulge the desire to get further upset, whether it be angry, sad, depressed - there is a choice!

I just love this idea that upset is a choice - life presents stuff, but upset isn't the only next progression, there are lots of options.
An insightful and deeply moving take on life - Many thanks to the authors, Ariel and Shya Kane.
I also highly recommend How To Create a Magical Relationship by the same authors.

This book is truly a delight. The authors, Ariel and Shya Kane, deliver stories of everyday life with a twist of transformation (which they define as an anthropological look without judgment into how you are living your life). We are all perfect representations of us. This book shows that if we bring awareness to our lives the opportunities for expansion are endless.

I would highly recommend this book as well as the Kanes' other two books, Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation and How to Create a Magical Relationship. These books can bring you out of an ordinary life and into a spectacular one. Reading the words in this book took me on a journey by teaching me about an easier way to live my life. With stories about Intuition, Love, Compassion, etc. the Kanes' teachings of Instantaneous Transformation is presented in such a way that is easy to understand.
