The information presented in this book is valuable and interesting, so far as I can tell. I have no problem with it. However, this tome is poorly edited at best. It's an English major's nightmare. If you can get past the typographical errors and obvious grammar and mechanical errors, then this might be a good buy for you. Otherwise, you might want to turn to more professionally edited literature. Also, throughout the text the author arbitrarily chooses when to cite other sources and what information should be cited. There is no index; nor is there a list of references. From where does this information come?

Turgid, over written, and a mish mash of "interesting Ideas"

The author seriously needs to review what niche market there is "traditional Witchcraft" as the material herein is already covered elsewhere in a more ethical, efficient, and straight forward manner. Whilst I can see the need for some people to be as dark an mysterious as they can, puleeeze, this is way OTT. Surely the market for dark-childe-ov-kaos is pretty limited.

For anyone interested even in the darker currents of Trad-Craft, I would not recommend this book. I consider it wasted money.

If you're sickened by the patty cake club that the Silver Ravenwolf types have degenerated Witchcraft into, especially here in America, then you will enjoy the MUCH darker take that is offered here by Michael W. Ford. Life is not made up of unicorns, faerie wings, and group hugs - and if you deny the darkness within us all, you are deluding yourself. As always, BALANCE is the Key. The Dark needs the Light - and vice-versa.

Superlative Reference

While perhaps recently superseded by Skinner's "Complete Magician's Tables", this was the superlative magic(k)al reference since its first publication by Llewellyn over ten years ago. Herein lies an extensive summary of correspondences and content for most esoteric systems of both East and West. The volume is weighty, as one would expect of one with such ambitions, and the subject matter extensive, accessible and thoroughly researched. While predominantly intended as a magician's equivalent of a PDR, there is also a recommended course of study and extensive supplemental reading list - the latter interestingly not reflecting a substantial number of texts from the publisher, Llewellyn, and hence has a much more credible air. Also included is a list inspired by P.E.I. Bonewits' summary Laws of Magic from his book "Real Magic".

While Llewellyn has published some average works, this is one of the gems of the publishing house, and one for which ceremonial magicians of all traditions owe them a debt of gratitude.

I actually read through this entire book. It's mainly meant to be used as a resource guide, but in my personal opinion, anyone who wants to use it for that purpose should read through it once to get an idea of what Whitcomb covers. It is one of the most in-depth correspondance guides I've read. Whitcomb also offers coherent brief explanations on the various systems he writes about. Whether this book is for a beginner or an experienced it has something for everyone and should be one of the few books any magician is required to purchase.

It is very difficult to write a book on how to live in the present moment because the very act of "trying" to live in it prevents us from being in it. Therefore, this book is an excellent book that allows us to experience what Toru Sato refers to as, "complete transcendence" but not "completely complete transcendence." Considering this irreconcilable limitation, this wonderful book provides us with extremely important insights and very practical methods to experience states as close to this as possible. This book is definitely worth the price! If you are interested in understanding these states and what all of this means, I strongly suggest, "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" by Toru Sato. It is a terrific book on developmental psychology, human consciousness, spirituality, and evolution! It's the best book I've ever read on this subject!

Good, but very basic.

Good book, but if you've read a lot in this genre, you may be surprised how basic it is. No a-ha's, just practical advice. And there's nothing wrong with that. I just was looking for the same kind of fascinating stuff that I got from Eckhard Tolle's "Power of Now".

As a writer and a long time scholar of philosophy, spirituality and religion, I feel compelled to share my thoughts on this particular book.

A friend of mine had been begging me to read it for some time. She wanted to be able to discuss her experiences in practicing what Mr. Duncan had prescribed. I'll admit that I was never really interested. The volume is quite slim, and looked like any other pop-spirituality / pop-self help book. She persisted and so I set aside an evening to read it. That evening of reading turned into a full week of reading and rereading and practicing. I've not been so pleasantly surprised by a book in a very, very long time.

Initially I took the lack of pages to mean a lack of content. Not so! The genius of this work is Mr. Duncan's ability to take large and often complicated psychological and spiritual concepts, bring them together and then make them succinct and easily digestible. As a non-fiction writer, this is one of the hardest things there is to do. Without a doubt he understands what he is writing about, down to his bones, or he could never put in plain words these teachings as he has. Most other authors would have taken four or five times the number of words to attempt to explain exactly the same concepts and ideas.

This is not just a guide for beginners, but for everyone. I see this book as a manual for getting anyone's feet squarely on (or back on) the path of greater self awareness and thus greater present moment awareness. Slipping off of that path is entirely too easy in the midst of all the random teachings and ideas floating around today.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Present Moment Awareness is surprisingly simple. What I like most about this book is the practicality and usability factor.

This book forces you to look at yourself and do the exercises, which actually worked for me. If you want nebulous concepts and hard to figure out ideas, this book is not for you. But, if you want a book that can start you on the path to growth, I suggest you look in here.

By the way, the author hosts a site called www.TruePersonalGrowth.com. Don't tell anyone... but you can actually post your questions on the forum and he might answer them. I've used it myself to overcome some of my issues.
Good Luck :)

I chose this book because "Awareness" is in the title. Although I wasn't expecting a lot of nuggets, I did expect some. Unfortunately, none were to be found. Instead, this book reads like a session with a psychologist - and not a very good one at that. The author begins by writing, "If you have picked up this book, then odds are that in someway you feel dissatisfied with your life." Again, that is not why I chose this book. Warning - this is the theme of the book. The author's own words sometimes weigh down the pages with emotional dissatisfaction.

Much of the advice is written in generalities. Often times, emotional issues were lumped together as if a one-off, cure-all by being "aware" will resolve any and all emotional problem. Sure, awareness is the first step and yes, gaining control of your emotions is important. However, if you are looking for sound emotional advice, you should see a licensed professional.

I first read this book when I took an online course and it was one of the required text books. I can't tell you enough how this book helped to reshape some of my ideas about outreach in the church where I was serving. Truth transforms and motivates and that is exactly what this book did for me. The theme of the book is servant evangelism..reaching out practically in the community with the love of God through simple acts of kindness.

It works! I have tried it and organized several teams from my church to do outreach. It is also contagious as one event then creates ideas for another event. I have seen lives impacted before my eyes of those that we ministered to as well as our team members who were maybe timid at first but as a result got off their butts and became more hands on in people's lives outside the church walls. This is a must read for any pastor, youth leader or outreach minister.

these things change lives...

For the one review that says it's unrealistic...it's puzzling. Pure and simple this *WORKS*. I got this book shortly after joining the Cincy Vineyard. There are few things that truly change lives but things in this book work. It's not a book about mega-churches, for the strange thing is even though there's multiple services and thousands of people it gives church HOME a whole new meaning. The advantage to big churches...more people to do more things to give more things away!

There are things that aren't captured in the book that I feel worth mentioning here. I've been on many of the servant evangalism things as described in this book - and the phrase God works in mysterious ways is so often coined and cast aside. I've seen people come for help, and salvation, from receiving a can of Coke at an intersection 18 months earlier. I've seen people in tears from receiving a bag of groceries; I've seen first hand this isn't just a book of "look how well our church is doing" - it's a book that is meant to be a workbook - it's meant to DO things. People are astounded when you wash their windshield for free...when you go into the small businesses and give little treats or wash their bathrooms there's the head tilt and "what kind of church ARE you?!" I mean who volunteers to do bathrooms (and actually has fun doing it)?! Who thought wrapping Christmas gifts or receiving lightbulbs would change someone's life? Packaging school supplies to give away to low income families is humbling to realise there are people even in affluent America that are hard working and struggle to get paper, pencils and a notebook for their kids for school. Giving bottled water to visitors at festivals or a newspaper is consumable things that don't last the day - but the message it gives can stick with the recipient much longer. These things work - it's unexpected. There were times people tried to give something back - which defeated the gift of doing something for nothing...so the gift of a pack of sodas became another gift giving to people as their car filled with gas. The gift of time and small acts is something that is so often lost today.
I highly recommend this book and, having been blessed with the opportunity to attend the Cincy Vineyard (as well as others) it is something that has a ripple effect - the giving is infectious. THAT makes changes. Get this book, get some small groups together...give the gift of service year round...every weekend can be Christmas with giving the gifts of time and small things.

The idea is a good one, but the presentation in this book is just completely mindless and unrealistic. The author presents everything as a complete success story and never deals with the reality that there will be rejection. I quite honestly had trouble reading the book because it was just over syrupy sweet with every story/example ending with a teary eyed made for TV movie revelation. Like I said there are some really good points and yes Christians should be getting their butts out of the church pews and making a positive impact in the world around them, but we have to be realistic. We have got to stop treating "non-believers" as projects and something that is completely different from us. We are all human, none better than another.

I began quilling to learn a new craft for scrapbooking. I wasn't planing to do anymore than that. This book inspired me into getting into this craft more indepth. There's a beautiful fan in here that I started working on to hang up in my home. There's a lot of new techniques and ideas in this book that other quilling books don't get into. If your a quiller and don't have this book, I think your missing out on some intervative ideas. There's also good ideas for embelishments for scrapbooking too. Beware- This is not an easy book. Some of the techniques are more complicated than in the "beginers" books. But if your willing to practice I don't think you would regret it.

Ultimately you are able to manipulate the paper with far greater control. Once assembled you will discover beautiful art pieces with a delicate filigree appearance. The projects in this book are more sophisticated and offer you designs that yield heirloom-quality results.

Suzane Northrop shares a wealth of her experiences
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-06
Suzane Northrop shares a wealth of her experiences as a channeler, presenting arguments and anecdotes to show that:

· We choose lessons in our incarnations and that every experience we have in life is another lesson.

· Issues that arise in our relationships are particularly important, because we choose our parents and attract to ourselves those people who resonate with the life lessons we have agreed to take on.

· Dead People (DP) continue to care about us often reach out with messages and respectful interventions (such as bringing us into contact with people we might benefit from, if we choose to interact with them).

· Synchronicities - those unusual coincidences that are deeply meaningful in our lives - are arranged by DP to alert us that there is more to life than we often acknowledge.

This is a helpful book to those who have a wish or feel a need to communicate with DP through a person who channels these communications. Northrop also provides helpful suggestions on how we can facilitate direct communications between DP and ourselves through methods such as meditation and holding the intent for such messages to come through. Again, Northrop provides lovely anecdotes to illustrate such communications - that occur often through dreams or physical manifestations (such as the movement of an object or activation of an electronic device).

What I see as most important is the responsibility Northrop puts upon each of us for what happens in our relationships with others. For instance, Northrup teaches that DP only hold us in love, and release all other feelings they may have experienced or held in our relationships with them. If we were hurt or angry in our experiences with a DP, we can know that once they are dead, it is up to us to clear our feelings towards them. My personal experience as a therapist is that this is some of the best advice we can take on board, in relating to the living and to DP.

Some of what Northrop shares is at variance with the experiences and observations of other channelers and students of these subjects. For instance, Northrop states that our relationships with DP never end. Other channelers indicate that DP may often move on to further levels of existence, severing the relationship and becoming unavailable to us. Other channelers and intuitives report that DP may hold resentments towards us and may sometimes even interfere in our lives maliciously because of these feelings. Synchronicities are attributed, by many other students of these magical coincidences, to our own unconscious wishes and expectations, manifested through the collective consciousness.

Having cautioned the reader that this book is about Northrop's views and experiences, I still warmly recommend it for its practical and spiritual orientation to what others often call spirit communications. Many examples illustrate how the information communicated consoles those still living and reassures them that physical death is not the end of existence. This is an important message in our society, which in many aspects is afraid of death and skeptical about an afterlife.

Too Absolute

Review Date: 2008-01-06
Though I believe the author offers points in which to ponder about soul progression and the afterlife, I hardly believe that she's entirely got the plan figured out. When one trudges through the chapters, it's as if she's actually interviewed God - too absolute in thinking. It would have been more enlightening if she would have presented her experiences and views as a perspective, not the law. Additionally, I believe she threw in too many client experiences that had no merit, except to show how helpful she's been to others. Mediocre read...buy it only if you find it at a garage sale.

Suzane Northrop's book "Everything Happens for a Reason" takes you deep into your soul, in a manner that is easy to understand, as well as make sense of why certain things happen, and how we can come to the other side of those experiences with greater clarity, a fresher perspective and true understanding.

I highly recommend her wonderful book to anyone who has wanted to make more sense out of life, the hereafter, and how it is all intertwined. A beautiful, insightful read!

To know the reason why- the questions are indeed the answers. This book won't/can't answer the questions, but instead gives you a tool to begin reasoning for yourself. Everything does happen for a reason and we often won't know until long after the event. Beginning the questions gives one the opportunity to start realizing some of the reasons, and can be comforting to those who are lost in the chaos.

Hi,

I read this as I was going through therapy. Together I was able to sort out my ways of reacting to people and how they got setup. He believes you can only have one of them, but I think I had three. I have different histories to explain each, but now I have them under control. If only there was a book that would help me sort out my Dyslexia this easy. (Sorry for the spelling errors.)

Good read. (If you know anything about Dyslexia it's hard for me to read at all, but this was worth it.)

Although the basic premise on which this book is based is what is known as the "chief feature" from the Messages from Michael book, I think Stevens has done a brilliant job of cutting out any psychobabble as well as any NewAge hippie-ism and purely focussed on the practical, usable, efficient methods of dealing with that aspect of our personality which most affects us in a negative fashion.
It may seem simplistic and yet the more I look at people, the more obvious it becomes that they are in the grip of one of the seven types of dragons (or rather one of the pairs of dragons) and it is truly the only think limiting them from showing their true potential through. The history of how these dragons are formed is particularly useful I think in that it not only shows you how you became the way you are but also highlights dangers you may encounter as a parent and hopefully how to avoid creating very pronounced dragons in your own children.

An excellent book. I am normally very critical of any self-help type book, but this one really does produce results (of course you have to apply the principles, but that's up to you, not the author!)

Being more successful and tapping into more energy for life are the results of using the material in this book.

"Transforming Your Dragons" describes in great detail the seven personality patterns that keep us from living fully and successfully (aptly called personality "dragons"). Jose Stevens provides overviews, detailed descriptions of how they develop and operate, checklists and exercises that can help anyone be more effective, more successful and live a happier life.
I have used this book until it's dog-eared for myself, used the many tools from the book and Jose's workshops with clients, and have recommended it to countless numbers of people.
The dragon tools have helped me immeasurablly to be more successful in business. By learning the fear patterns (my own and those of others), I am able to know when others are operating from their dragons and change my approach to allow them to be themselves, reduce their fear of me and my ideas, and in the end, I can be more successful and have more win/win situations. It has also helped me to be a better person by knowing my own dragons, being able to feel when they are at work, and work to tame them.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in self growth, as well as anyone who must negotiate in business or personal life to get things done.

I was expecting the usual self-help book, with idealistic but generalized and useless exercises, flowery language that doesn't really say anything, and thinly-veiled advertisements for other books or products. Thankfully, this book has none of these. The writing is clear and direct, and the exercises are real and empowering. This book has helped me learn more about myself in a few days than I learned over the course of many years prior. Often, I felt the book was directed specifically at me, so accurate were the descriptions of the ways in which the "dragons" manifest themselves.

My one complaint (very minor) is that the section on maturity was almost overtly political, and in general not very useful or relevant to the core of the book. Happily, you can skip this section without hindering the usefulness of the rest of the book.

All in all, I recommend this book without any serious reservations.

Please don't misunderstand me even though I only gave Green Witchcraft II three stars - I do think it is an OK book, and badly needed as well. What with all the "pink sugar witchie" books appearing on the market lately, it's just great that someone dares to write about "the shadow side". My problems with this book didn't arise from that. No; I just expected it to be _all_ about what the title says: "Balancing Light & Shadow", i.e. understanding the Dark as well as the Light in a more general Craft context. Instead, about a half of the book seems to be information on Moura's own Craft tradition. No doubt the book is useful as a whole to those following that specific path, but personally I found no actual use for half of it. The meditations are excellent, though!

Moura is also guilty of a very common slip-up - making a mess of Finnish names, Deities and folk beliefs. There were never any Finnish Gods called "Hiesi" and "Tunni"...

Oh, but if you feel like buying this book, don't be discouraged by my review. GWII _is_ still a book worth its price, especially for those who were really into the first part of the series.

Better than the first one!

As someone who is trying to keep my distance from all the sweet candy colored magick in Witchcraft today, I was thrilled that Moura's second book tackled the Dark side, because without it there is no balance!

I loved everything about this book (well, ok, the reviewer that said the last two chapters could have been better was right), the meditations, the rituals, and I was amazed by the chapter on the Ogham!

She includes coorespondences for Dark Power Herbs, Deities (from a variety of pantheons), and more. I really like Moura's tradition of the "Green Witch" and how she approaches her Craft, and would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone past their 101 stage who's ready to dive into the less talked about/utilized side of the Craft.

Balance- what a relief!

A friend suggested this to me some time ago after I complained about how "fluffy" or severely dianic so many books in this area sometimes seem to be. I can't thank them enough!

Finally, a book that talks about _balance_. Light and dark, male and female; she reminds you that energy itself isn't one or the other, but neutral. It's what you do with it that matters.

Moura has a proper yet conversational writing style, which lets you absorb and think about the information presented without stumbling through bad grammar and awkward language. Though I'm not too sure about the faery stuff, much of the rest of what she has to say really hit home for me. Her listing of the basic "laws" of witchcraft is simple, clear, and to the point- probably the best phrasing I've seen.

She suggests ways of dealing with your fears via visualization and meditation; offers basic information about ogham, tarot, creating ritual, and obviously, working with both "light" and "dark". She keeps a balance of male and female, leaving this book pleasantly neutral.

A useful book for those looking for "something more" as they wade through the books available about paganism, witchcraft in particular. At the top of my recommendations list, along with Cunningham's "Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner".

Someone's finally addressing this...

I loved this, not for the content (which was marvellous), but BECAUSE of it. Very few serious books have been written on the dark aspect of paganism because they don't want people to think of it as "black magic," and many (most) that have been written are trashy, focusing only on teenagers who want to [tick] their parents off. It's a side that needs to be explained that's not usually included in 101 books, or anywhere else. I was just glad to see it. The book itself is worth reading, whether you agree with her or not, for another perspective that I believe is widely ignored.

I own all three of the books in the greenwitch series

and could not be more pleased with them. Not only is the

the casual acceptance of faerys, spirits, and the like

similar to own upbringing with my mother and grandmother,

even those not so wonderfully blessed not only can see what it

must have been like, and start on the path of the old ways

without fear or distrust. BRAVO!!!!My dear lady...you've

done it once more!!

Blessed be my dear readers! Merry meet again!

My sister and I love the "Get Fuzzy" cartoon. Each year I buy a calendar for my sister and myself. I can't wait until the start of each new month to see what cartoon comes up. The cartoons are great and there is plenty of space in each day block to write upcoming appointments or notes to myself of things I need to do. Mine is in the kitchen and I look at it as I grab my first cup of coffee. It's a great way to start the day...with a laugh.
